Best place for morning walk jogging running and if you want to go there for just to relieve your mind from stress it's the best place you can go because there are too many parks and even you can take your children's and go there for fun.More notable places are kastharni ghat and company gardens and many thing like that like the polo field where people can play multiple matches at once and even if they want to run 800 m there is a track for it.

Nicest part of Munger. Lovely fort lakes, world famous yoga school. The administration has really worked to clean up the Ganges and the fort area. This is happening for the first time since 2001.

This is not fort, now this is office & workplace for some govt staff. A small pond is inside campus which is very dirty, no proper cleanliness, local people use it for washing cloth, washing thier pets, they dty their cloth on the wall of the pond, amd nearby area, which is really bad. A small garden is also inside fort, that have only some tree nothing else, a polo ground whicg is used for playing cricket and other games. There is lot of enrochment inside and outside fort. This is shame for heritage site. Govt should save such site, and should take some strict action to save it.

Fort constructed by Mir Kasim, surrounded by river ganga, nice place to visit. But district municipality need to take care of these places and need to develop this place as tourist destinations. Too many things to explore as tourist.

The Munger Fort, located at Munger (also spelt as Monghyr during the British Raj), in the state of Bihar, India, is built on a rocky hillock on the south bank of the Ganges River. Its history is not completely dated but it is believed that it was built during the early rule of Slave dynasty of India. The Munger town where the fort is situated was under the control of Muhammad bin Tughluq of Delhi (1325-1351 AD). The fort has two prominent hills called the Karnachaura or Karanchaura, and the other a built up rectangular mound deduced to be the location of a citadel of the fort with historical links.[1] The Fort had a succession of Muslim rulers (Khaljis, Tughlaqs, Lodis, Nawabs of Bengal, followed by Mughal rulers, till it was finally acceded to the British by Mir Quasim (1760–72), after unseating his father-in-aw Mīr Jafar on the grounds of old age, for a monetary reward negotiated by Vansittart. This deal involved payment by the East India Company’s merchants of an ad valorem duty of 9 percent, against an Indian merchant’s duty of 40%. The fort became a place of considerable importance to the British in Bengal till 1947 (India'a independence).

The Icon Of Munger Is Munger Fort. Munger Fort is a fort located in Munger, Bihar, situated on a hillock on the southern bank of the Ganges. Its history is not known exactly, but it is believed that it was built by one of the early rulers of the slave dynasty. There are four gates in this fort. In this the northern gate is known as 'Lal Darwaza'. This huge door is made in Hindu-Buddhist style with carved stones. The secret tunnel located in the fort is the main attraction for tourists. The tunnel was badly damaged by a severe earthquake in 1934.

    (Translated by Google) This fort has four gates. In this, the northern gate is known as 'Lal Darwaja'. This huge door is made in Hindu-Buddhist style with carved stones. The secret tunnel located in the fort is the main attraction for tourists. The massive earthquake in 1934 had caused significant damage to this tunnel. And in ancient times, the Munger Fort was built by Magadha King Jarasankha, which is described in the Mahabharata. Later, many rulers established their supremacy over this fort. Chandragupta founded Munger and its capital was Champa Nagar. Later the Mughal outlying Muslim invasion established its authority over the fort and gave the fort its name.

Fort is situated on a high rise plateau and connected to main land of city by three entrance gates(North, East & South)gates. Firstly this fort was of king Karna of Anga Desh but then captured by Ajatshatru of Magadh. Then this fort and munger city was rebuilt by emperror Chandragupta Maurya than it was un der many hindu emperrors of Magadh empire untill Ala-ud-din khilji captured it after a massive war. Then it was captured by tughlaks and remained under mughals untill nawab of bengal decleared themselves independent rulers of east india. It was a capital or seat of rule for nawab of complete Bihar ,United Bengal , Jharkhand, Orrisa and some parts of U.P under the last nawab Mir quasim who fought with british army for many months in munger but lost the fort due to betrayl by his army general Gurgin khan. Again the nawab along with nawab of lucknow and mughal emperror shah alam came to take over the fort from britishers but they all were defeated in battle of buxar. Till then Robert Clive & Warren Hastings ruled from here. The fort and the large palace which was located on the bank of river ganga wascompletely destroyed in devastating earthquake of 1934 and then only the high rise boundries were standing and the entrance gates were rebuilt by british govt. which we can see today. Today it serves as District & Divisional headquarter having all governmental apartments of city like court & Parks , Ghats, stadium, Museum & The Bihar Yoga university etc.

An alluring sunrise over the river Ganges, chirping of birds, sound of water and an island in between – definitely the fantasy thing. The sky meeting the river and the white theme breakfast waiting for us on an island. We ate and sat there, hand in hand, staring at the mesmerizing view, not wanting to relinquish for the morning. Such was our tryst in Munger, Bihar.

I recently went there for the funeral of my uncle as Munger is my patternal town. This fort is connected by NH 333B it also has only one Polo ground in Bihar as per my knowledge. Most of the government offices are working in the fort arena. This fort is very close to Ganga shore and residents of Munger has belief that this fort was build and used by Angraj KARN of mahabharat. It is just behind the auto stand of Munger and infront of the fort is main market of the district.

  • 5/5 Vishwajeet G. 3 years ago on Google
Very much old fort. Only gates are visible. Buildings inside has been converted into government buildings. There are market inside , a large playground where Ravana dahan happens during durga puja. People playing cricket inside . There is ganga ghat if you go inside. Seems like the fort had been built on the bank of river ganga.

Munger fort is a lovely heritage place to visit especially in the morning. The entire place is very clean and calm. The best thing is the river ganga flowing nearby the fort area. I am totally in love with this place. But due to the negligence of the government, the fort is loosing its beauty as it requires maintenance.

As per modern days, there are many sources from where we can get the details of almost all places. But here just trying to share my personal view about this fort. This fort is really awesome, it's near to munger Market. This Fort will give the same representation as shown in movies for other old historical Fort. This Fort is bounded by large gate with large wall, structure like wall of China. Must visit this place to see the beautiness of Fort. 😊

The fort is spread over an area of 222 acres (90 ha) over rocky hills with a peripheral length of2.5 miles (4.0 km). The fort has 4 feet (1.2 m) thick inner walls while the outer walls are 12 feet (3.7 m) thick forming the fortification, which is 30 feet (9.1 m) thick. The intervening space of 14 feet (4.3 m) between the inner and outer walls is filled with earth.
