(Translated by Google) It is a 12-minute walk from Abeno Harukas. There is enough distance without getting on the Osaka Metro. In particular, the illuminations of Tsutenkaku change depending on the season. It is also one of the sightseeing spots in Osaka prefecture and is visited by many tourists. It is attractive that there are many food stalls. The nearest stations are Shin-Imamiya Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line and Dobutsuen-mae Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. Ebisucho Station on the Sakaisuji Line is also nearby.

A whole new world and tourists attraction around the Tsutenkaku tower. Plenty of souvenirs , tax free shops and also local restaurants for your meals. Fast food chain McD also available along with convenience stores. The street is busy and crowded during day and night time. If you're going up for a lookout on the tower, suggest to come early as the wait will be long passing the afternoon hours.

The Osaka downtown ethic-taste wonderland. The streets have got a little too inbound-happy and meaninglessly festive even to foreign sightseers recently, however that may be really Osakan (me as a legit global Tokyoite intellect can never understand such stuff anyways, though). Please try do everything listed in the tourist attraction list around and eat, then, may be an idea to explore the south (shabby labour town street mall), further south (“Special” serviced restaurants area, picture/film shooting prohibited) or the southwest (lively deep downtown township) at your discretion and risk management.

Found this place recommended .. simply a place lost in time since WWII? … the original tower was built in 1912 taking after the Eiffel. The area was shady past but now it’s vibrant and quaint .. simply love the nostalgia

Shinsekai is magical. If you like nostalgic atmosphere and lot of time slips, this is the right place where to find it. You will feel like in a completely differworld, The shops are exactly as if it was 40 years ago and the food is real there!

Embarking on an evening quest for a satisfying meal, my fiancé and I found ourselves exploring this intriguing locale. Beyond the initial search for a restaurant to appease our empty stomachs, the journey unveiled a tapestry of hidden gems. As we delved deeper into the surroundings, a plethora of arcades and cozy bars emerged, beckoning with the promise of respite. The option to order a beer or highball offered a simple yet effective remedy to release the accumulated fatigue of the day. Despite it being my inaugural visit, the images of the environment imprinted themselves on my mind, creating an indelible impression. The experience, though seemingly uneventful in terms of grand gestures, became truly unforgettable. Perhaps what made it exceptional was the ability of the place to provide a much-needed escape from the monotony of daily routines. It served as a reminder that sometimes, the most profound experiences lie in the simplicity of a moment, allowing for a mental reset and a brief departure from the ordinary. This unexpected sanctuary, filled with hidden delights, left a lasting mark on my memory, transforming a routine evening into a remarkable and cherished experience. Not sure if we have another chance to visit here. But will definitely come back to enjoy the food I tried.

    A nice little distric in the heart of oskaka. It looks a bit dystopian with some nice blade runner vibes. Lots of little shops and restaurants are little by little opening in this neighborhood. (It still feels a bit dead in some areas) You can also go to the top of the tower to enjoy a nice view over the city of Osaka. All in all it felt a bit touristy and you need to do your research for some true food spots. I recommend it for some nice instagram shots (;

Charming area to walk around! Such a great spot for photos of interesting storefronts and seemingly endless food options. The old school arcade caught my eye but I didn’t get inside. Definitely a fun place to wander

Bustling dining and entertainment center in Osaka. At night, many shops light up more beautiful and cheerful than during the day. But due to the impact of the epidemic, many stores closed early, which is a bit of a pity.

This is a real-life area of Osaka, not a tourist attraction. If you're looking for the sanitized PR version of Japan, this is not the place for you. Many good food options to have good food for cheap price, and animations for kids. If you're from any large metropolitan city in the world you will be able to handle this area easily. It looks rough but is actually quite safe.

The pandemic has affected Shinsekai pretty hard. It wasn't the as colorful, gritty, loud, and busy as it once was. Matter of fact, one of my all time favorite restaurant in the world (Yakiniku Katsura) is no longer in business, but I had to swing by this area for memory sake. Some old shops are still around but I also see alot of newer one and interesting ones popping up around the corners. P.S. If anyone know the now closed Yakiniku Katsura's owner, please get in touch with me, I would really like to how they are doing.

Definitely one of the f the must-see places around the whole of Osaka. It looks here great and you can have a lot of fun as well. It doesn't matter if you are looking for a walk, food, drinks or souvenirs. You can even have a new haircut from the local barber, buy the traditional flip flops made by bamboo or anything else. Just come and enjoy it. Thank you🤩

Such a fun and lively area of Osaka! The buildings are colorful, there are a ton of amazing restaurants, and there are even some cool arcades for kids. We ate at a sushi restaurant across from the McDonalds and loved it. It was fun to walk through the city and see the smiling statues. Definitely try Takayoki (octopus balls) if you come here. The area is known for its blow fish though- but be sure to go to a professional!y

The ticket to the tower is differentiate into 2 kind. One is just the interior of the 2nd highest level. Another is able to access to the highest floor which is the outdoor and also the interior which is 1 level down. There is also another ticket that is only for the slide from the 5th floor. Make sure to know which ticket you are getting. (Never take the slide therefore no photo on it) If I remembered correctly, only the interior is less then 1000yen. For both interior and exterior is like 1200yen if I am not wrong. Alot of food restaurant near by but just for heads up, they will charge 300yen per pax in advance for "appetiser" fee. No matter u go in for a drink or light snacks, the fee is applicable.

Be prepared for queues at just about every eatery especially over the weekend. It really could be so much more but kind of fell short of being a place of nostalgia and retro-ness. One good thing was the 90s arcade games that were well maintained and it was so good to play the old games.

Wow. This is the real Osaka. Great vibe , lots of authentic Japanese eateries , many shops for shopping and definitely a lot of game parlors. You also get to have a peak into the old school Japanese bird games and the life they enjoyed 20-30 years back. The tower view and street walk was great. Highly recommend spending some time here when in Osaka.

I did Shinsekai at night, so I have no clue about the experience during the day. But I can tell you for sure you will not be dissapointed by the night life in this part of Osaka. Packed with restaurant of excentric style, serving mostly kushikatsu, basically skewers of multiple ingredients, covered with tempura batter and fried. Absolutly amazing. Aditionally, if you like photography, this place is perfect for taking wonderfull pictures, both at night and during the day. As the colorfull 3D facade of the shops make this scenery outstanding ! Highly recommand coming for lunch or dinner, though can be crowded. Don't hesitate to enter shops/restaurants, even if you don't speek japanese, but still, please remain polite and not too loud. As to not bother the locals

Shinsekai is a colorful area to the west of Tennoji Park packed with cheap shops and eateries and best known for its iconic Tsutenkaku Tower. There were many interesting quirky shops along the walkway towards the tower. Would've been fun to visit here at night but nevertheless it was still a fruitful outing exploring this side of Osaka.

(Translated by Google) Osaka Deep Town A valuable tourist destination where the retro cityscape that appears in one scene of the movie still remains. There are many shops that sell B-class gourmet food in Kansai, and who sees it at the movie theater here? Maniac screening content like that ... Enjoy food and shopping while soaking in a nostalgic atmosphere ... There is also a famous Tsutenkaku in the middle, and now the number of people is considerably reduced due to the influence of Corona ... Every shop seems to be difficult, so if you are interested, why not enjoy Deep Town during this vacant time? A bustling vibrant area with arcade games and lots of food options although we had to use google translate to order off the menu at several places. (Which is not a problem) Very busy precinct which was less pristine than the shopping arcades. The people were friendly and helpful.

This was an interesting place to walk around, look at different vendors and get some quick snacks. It was a bit quiet though and not as much hustle and bustle that we thought there would be. Make sure to try the takoyaki here and the jiggly cheesecake! Note: Visited prior to Covid, so things may be different.

We visited this area at night to see everything lit up. It was fun to stroll around the check our the retro carnival style lights and 3D food signs cropping out over various restaurants. We felt safe the whole time (even when walking to/from the Namba area) and there were many people walking around the Shimsekai main strip even around 8-10pm on a Sunday in May. However, at that time, pretty much all the souvenir shops were shut down.

I knew this area from one of the manga that i read. We came at night, it has its charmed and uniqueness. Lots of neon lights, brights, full of cafe/izakaya/local eateries. I think it’s less popular than Dotonbori amongst international tourist.

A walking street with a lot of flashing signs, displays, statues, and restaurants. The Tsutentaku tower is overlooking it. It can be fun to visit - there's a lot of tourists moving about. I expected more of a "street food" vibe with vendors selling food off carts, but almost all the places are sit-down restaurants. Would still recommend for a short visit if you're in the area.

Not as big as dotonburi but still very iconic. Great for Street photos. Lots of yakiniku(grilled skewers) restaurants, izakayas. Some stores are converted to game stalls so you can have a go at shooting games, archery games to win prizes. The shop fronts are heavily decorated to attract attention and when put all together, the streets just look like one giant party area all the time. I went during golden hour for some photography. I think it's more photogenic than dotonburi albeit less modern

This is the first time I visit Shin Sekai despite being in Osaka a few times before. So my perspective is from a tourist point of view. When I walked into Shin Sekai on a drizzling Monday evening, I felt I have walked back 3 decades. The shops that greeted me when I entered from the "tunnel" walkway are old and very local. There are many small eateries serving local Japanese; eateries selling sushi, fried stuffs, takoyaki and many more. There are many fun-fair game type shops and there is this arcade which has all the classic games such as Street Fighters, Time Crisis... The people here also doesn't speak much English but there's always Google Translate. Some shops had closed down, I guess they haven't recovered from Covid. I also saw numerous elderly men lottering there. I understand that this place wasn't the safest in Osaka years back. So perhaps these old men were once active here? Anyhow, I like the atmosphere and vibe! And also kinda like it when they don't speak much English here. Didn't feel too commercialized. It's a bit sad to see that businesses seems to be struggling a bit or is it because Monday night? I don't know. But I hope this place can continue to operate and keep its charm. Will definitely return the next time I'm in Osaka. Oh yes, my family and I had okonomiyaki and takoyaki for dinner in the restaurant with a giant red octopus (see video), it was delicious. And yes, there is a duty free drug store under the Osaka Tower.

We visited this place in the afternoon to avoid the crowd in the evening. Comfortable walk and space without squeezing. Love the environment and the colour of this place. There was many eateries at shinsekai so please enjoy your time and meals there. Strongly suggest families with children or elderly to avoid visiting this place during evening time. Crowd gets pretty crazy and packed during evening.

Shinsekai is a popular sightseeing area in Osaka. When you want to enjoy panoramic views of this area, the Tsutenkaku tower would be your best choice. Kushikatsu, deep-fried skewers, are Osaka’s most popular food, and this area is especially well-known for good Kushikatsu restaurants. Recomended

The kushikatsu is not good as I thought and very pricey. Just pass by and not think of coming back. Shinsekai (新世界, lit. New World) is an old neighbourhood located next to south Osaka City's downtown "Minami" area. The neighbourhood was created in 1912 with New York (specifically, Coney Island) as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half. At this location, a Luna Park amusement park operated from 1912 until it closed in 1923.The centrepiece of the neighbourhood was Tsutenkaku Tower (the "tower reaching to heaven"). Shinsekai has several fugu (blowfish) restaurants, but the neighbourhood's real culinary forte is kushi-katsu. The neighbourhood abounds with kushi-katsu restaurants offering various kinds of meat, fish, and vegetables all breaded and deep fried on small sticks for around ¥150 each. Shinsekai lies west of Tennoji Zoo, Tennoji Park, and the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. To the south is Spa World and the now-closed Festival Gate, a compact amusement park built to rejuvenate Osaka's most run-down area. Instead of trying to blend the park into Shinsekai, its construction resulted in virtually barricading it from the surrounding neighbourhood. It remained open for nearly seven years but in February 2004 a joint-venture behind the operation went into bankruptcy, effectively shutting down the complex for the most part. As an amusement space, it was no match for nearby Universal Studios Japan, which opened in 2002. In early 2008, the city began calling for tenders from prospective buyers although, by this point, a crepe shop adjoining Spa World was the only business still operating in the empty complex.

Time has stopped from its beginning post WWII at Shin Sekai. Stores with caricature-like decor line the three blocks that make up this area. I learned that it is not a good idea to visit during the night hours, but I found it to be pleasant during the day. There are fried skewers that are the signature food in this area. I had a few and rushed right off to the Kansai airport for my flight. It was an interesting last impression of Osaka for me.

Interesting and amazing to explore the walking street. Plenty of shops, restaurants and funny commercial ad in front of the shop. Good and fun for visitors to get plenty shots of photos here. Of course near by the Tsutenkaku Tower

This is one of those places in Osaka to see quirky shop signs and neon lights. Be sure to come before 11pm. Not very sure when the lights go off because it was off when I was walking back from Mega Donki at 11pm. It is a very touristy place hence, the prices are slightly elevated. Kushikatsu is a dime a plenty here and you don't have to visit the famous angry chef ornament place just to eat it; unless you love to experience long que times. There are some game stalls here to keep the kids entertained. One of which is a game where you use paper scoops to fish out as many coloured balls you can till the paper tear. The other is a shooting game.

Shinsekai (新世界, lit. "New World“) is a busy district in Osaka with many restaurants, a spa world, souvenir shops and a 103 meter tower. Many restaurants here are known for selling famous Osaka food that is recommended to tourists. The neighborhood was developed before the war in 1912 and then neglected in the decades afterwards. It is located next to South Osaka’s downtown “Minami” area with New York as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half. As an old neighborhood, it still looks like a neighborhood from the 1960s. However, it stays very busy and progressively becomes busier as evening / night time approaches. It is located centrally for a visit but may not need to be at the top places to visit list if time doesn’t allow it.

Shinsekai is a bustling district located in the vibrant city of Osaka, Japan. Known for its retro charm and unique blend of old and new, it has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. During my visit to Shinsekai, I was immediately struck by the nostalgic atmosphere of the place. The architecture and ambiance seemed to transport me back in time to the Showa era, with its distinctive and somewhat kitschy charm. It's a neighborhood that exudes character and offers a glimpse into Japan's past. As I explored the streets of Shinsekai, I couldn't help but notice the abundance of street food stalls offering a wide variety of local delicacies. From takoyaki to kushikatsu, there was no shortage of tempting treats to try. It was the perfect place to indulge in some authentic Japanese street food. The Tsutenkaku Tower, an iconic landmark in the area, provided a panoramic view of Shinsekai and the surrounding city. The sight from the observation deck was breathtaking, especially during the evening when the city lights illuminated the skyline. While Shinsekai may not be the most upscale or modern district in Osaka, it certainly has its own unique charm that draws visitors from all over the world. Whether you're looking to savor delicious street food, soak in the retro atmosphere, or simply take in the sights and sounds of this lively neighborhood, Shinsekai has something to offer everyone. It's a place where tradition and nostalgia coexist in a way that is both endearing and captivating.

Went in the evening so some of the shops were shut but the view of the tower was great, all the restaurants had amazing exteriors. We had great fried food (Osaka special) at a lovely restaurant and played arcade games and claw machines, some places also had photo booths. The kebab place there is also good and speaks good English. Definitely will be returning to finish exploring.

🍻Fun!!! Its a great place to have dinner at an izakaya with friends and drinks. Its super cheap some places have Nomihodai for 500 yen this means all you can drink during one hour 😮.

A very lovely experience visiting Shinsekai on a weekend evening. It had a certain charm that wasn’t present in the newer parts of the city, and I absolutely loved walking around here soaking it in. Certainly past its prime, but a nice stop if you are in Osaka.

Best viewed at night - the more vibrant street views and colors 👍 The restaurant get pretty busy (up to 1h waits for the more popular places) so come early if you're looking to eat.

You can't miss this when visiting Osaka. Street food is the thing to try out here and there are lots of great spots to eat. It's somewhat easy to get here, the metro leaves you close and Google map will show you the way. You will not see it easily untill you see it. Try many places, all with different varieties of food.

My bike-buddy and I came to see the tower. And we found some spots for picture taking. And they're worth taking. There's a zoo that I've never been in to yet. In this covid time, you can't get in without an appointment. So I just took a pose at the gate. Anyways, I have some photos to share with you.

What was once an old entertainment district of Osaka, you can still detect the sense of "shitamachi" here.

This quarter is pretty cool. It makes you feel you've travelled back in time to the 80's. Some of its streets remind you of "Sin City" movie due to its scenery. It may seem certainly decadent but I think that is part of its charm too. Besides, there are plenty of places where to eat the typical Kansai tempura.
