The Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar The golden pagoda honors Buddha and rises to a 98 meters height. Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. These relics include the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama.

One of the highlights of our Myanmar trip. Very surreal. A magnificent pagoda in the middle of Yangon, which legend has it dates back more than 2,500 years. Very peaceful and calm place. I can say that this is the most beautiful pagoda I’ve seen in my life 🇲🇲

Great pagoda. One of largest and most important one in Myanmar. 10,000MMK for foreigners. It may take 45-60 min. walking inside of this property. There are few water fountain to drink, free of charge. Just be careful with stranger who is coming close to you and start guiding. Usually, they speak fluent English and explain history of this pagoda. If you want to pay for the guide fee, please let him take care of you. It was said 30,000MMK after the guide is done. He would use all of it to his students who are waiting foods and educational goods in northern part of Myanmar… it is totally up to you to believe it or not

One of the most stunning landmarks I’ve ever visited in my entire life! Even if you’re not spiritual, I believe you can feel positive energy here. As of November 2023, the entrance fee for foreigners is 20,000 K. The whole place is quiet massive, and the floor can be too hot for bear feet during the day. Therefore, visiting as dusk is strongly recommended. Also, it’s magical! Prepare a bag to put your shoes in if you don’t plan to exit through the same gate you get in; it’ll save you a lot of time.

The Shwedagon Pagoda, or Golden Temple, in Yangon, is considered the most sacred temple in Myanmar. There are sacred treasures kept for Buddhists, which are eight hairs of Buddha Shakyamuni. When the sun goes down, the entire temple shines with fantastic golden light. It is very quiet. Going to the temple wearing long pants and a long skirt is not revealing.

One of the most astonishing things i have seen ever in my life. A gigantic (about 100 meters tall) temple of Buddha, made of 7 metric tonne of gold. It was built about 2600 years ago. Simply awesome. It is so peaceful, serene and calm. There is a very unique vibe to it. You can see many Buddhist monks meditating.

This is a very famous pagoda in Yangon. It was made by gold and so beautiful in the evening or in the night. There are a lot of local residents. Ticket for foreigner is 10,000 kyats and free for local visitors. You shall wear polite dress. If you wear anything too short, you can borrow another dress from management board (it is free but you need to deposit 5,000 kyats). There may be some local tour guides chasing you. If you accept their service, you need to tip them. They will said that it depends on your heart but they usually mention about 50,000 kyats (a bit high). However, if you don’t enough money, you can give 20-30,000 kyats, it is ok.

Shwedagon Paya is on top of a hill, is immense and is also surrounded by dozens of smaller temples. Shwedagon is a center of pilgrimage for the Burmese and Buddhists, a spiritual center of the importance of Rome, Mecca or Jerusalem. Apart from its beauty it is advisable to visit it at sunset, and see how the golden domes light up its majesty increases and, despite the crowds, an inner peace invades you, whether you are religious, atheist or agnostic. Visitors must take off their shoes and socks before entering the entrance. Prayers are performed by turning counterclockwise, a common practice in Buddhism.

Incredible place. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience being there. I got flu and fever last time when I fly to Yangon and kept feeling unwell those days, even though I have taken medicine and injection. But I felt the energy flowing from my feet to my head after having taken hundreds of steps to the temples walking under big sunshine burning my bare feet. My body temperature turned to normal that evening when I back to the hotel.

One of the most famous pagoda in Myanmar. It was built since 1362. It is considered to be one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world that enshrines Buddha’s hair strands in its core. You will be very peaceful by just sitting ‌at the square; hearing the sound of birds and the bell. You can feel that in the video.

One of the amazing places to visit in Yangon the capital of Myanmar, which speaks about the culture, tradition, belief and richness of the country. One of the oldest stupa in the world dating back to 2600 years. Visitors can enter from any of the four entrances, but the main entrance has lifts which takes you to the level from which you could walk to the same level as the main courtyard. The beautiful Pagoda is 99m tall and covered with gold all over, with precious stones hanging on the top. Gautama Buddha's strands of hair is one of precious relics kept here. To truly enjoy the place and understand the various stories behind the things there, it's better to hire a guide who could walk you around.

Incredible place. It will give u different vibes depending on the time you're visiting. On a full moon day, it's gonna be filled with full of people whether the weather condition is good or bad. They admired the lord Buddha very much. Visiting early in the morning will give you a calm and refreshing vibe. As for me, I love going at the night time to "Shwedagon Phaya". It's cool amd pleasant for me. I love the vibe more at night. The pagoda is shining, shimmering and splendid. Moreover, the architectures are so unique and glamorous. Everything's golden.

Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon) is the largest city in Myanmar (formerly Burma). A mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-rises and gilded Buddhist pagodas define its skyline. Its famed Shwedagon Paya, a huge, shimmering pagoda complex, draws thousands of pilgrims annually. The city's other notable religious sites include the Botataung and Sule pagodas, both housing Buddhist relics. ―

Most stunning Pagoda in Myanmar! This Pagoda is absolutely stunning. Visit during sun down to see them light the candles underneath the Pagoda. Make sure you wear temple clothes and enter through the correct side of the Pagoda. (Tourists can only enter through a certain gate, make sure you tell your taxi driver this). You can pay your respects to the culture by pouring water over your day of the week God.

Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda, is a Buddhist temple located in Yangon, Myanmar. It is considered one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country and is a major tourist attraction. History: The origins of the Shwedagon Pagoda are not known, but it is believed to have been first built over 2,500 years ago. The current pagoda is a result of many additions and renovations over the centuries, with the main stupa having been rebuilt several times due to damage from earthquakes and fires. Architecture: The Shwedagon Pagoda is an imposing structure, standing at 110 meters (360 feet) tall and covered in gold leaf. The main stupa is surrounded by smaller stupas, shrines, and pavilions, all of which are intricately decorated with gold, silver, and precious stones. The complex also includes a museum, a library, and several meditation rooms. The pagoda is located on a hill, providing visitors with stunning views of the city of Yangon. Visitors: The Shwedagon Pagoda is open to visitors every day from 4:00am to 10:00pm. Admission fees apply, and visitors are required to remove their shoes and dress modestly when entering the complex. The pagoda is considered a sacred site, and visitors are expected to show respect for Buddhist customs and traditions. Significance: The Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most important Buddhist sites in Myanmar and is believed to contain relics of four previous Buddhas, making it a place of great religious significance for Buddhists around the world. The pagoda is also an important symbol of Myanmar's cultural heritage and national identity. The gold-covered stupa is visible from many parts of Yangon and is a symbol of the city itself. The Shwedagon Pagoda is also known for its role in Myanmar's political history, having been a site of protests and demonstrations during periods of political unrest. Today, the pagoda remains a popular destination for both locals and tourists, with many visitors coming to experience the spiritual and cultural significance of this iconic site.

Visiting Yangon's Shwedagon Pagoda was an awe-inspiring experience, a profound encounter with Myanmar's cultural and spiritual heritage. The pagoda's golden stupa, adorned with intricate details, captivated me as I approached. Inside the pagoda, the atmosphere was serene, with devotees offering prayers and lighting candles. The main platform offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the city, framed by the pagoda's resplendence. The pagoda's historical significance, the enshrined relics, and the devotion of pilgrims all added depth to my exploration. The journey to this spiritual sanctuary was a journey into Myanmar's soul, a testament to its rich traditions. Shwedagon Pagoda is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a cultural and spiritual treasure, an essential pilgrimage for those seeking to immerse themselves in Myanmar's heritage.

(Translated by Google) Shwedagon Pagoda (official name: Shwedagon Zedi Daw), also known as the Golden Pagoda, is a 98-meter (321.5-foot) high gilded stupa or pagoda located in Yangon, Myanmar. This pagoda is located on the western part of Lake Kandawgyi, on Singuttara Hill, and dominates the view of Yangon City. This Buddhist stupa is the holiest of the Myanmar people (it is said) because it contains relics of the previous Buddha, namely Kakusandha's staff, Konagamana's water filter, a piece of Kassapa's robe, and eight strands of Siddharta Gautama's hair. The official name of this pagoda is Shwedagon Zedi Daw, but the whole world knows him better by the name Shwedagon Paya. Some call it the golden Pagoda. This is one of the most important and grandest places of worship in Myanmar. The Shwedagon Pagoda Complex now sits on 5 hectares of land on a hill 58 meters above sea level. The center of the pagoda is a 98 meter high golden stupa, dominating the Yangon sky with its golden peak. The pagoda structure is filled with valuable objects. Reported by DailyMail, the base of the stupa is covered with gold plates. While the top of the crown is studded with about 4,531 diamonds with the largest diamonds of 72 carats (15 grams) as well as 2,317 rubies. Reported by the Journal of The Burma Research, historians and archaeologists believe that this pagoda was built by the Mon people between 6-10 AD. But according to legend, Shwedagon was built more than 2,600 years ago. If this legend is true, then Shwedagon is the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. After entering the Shwedagon Pagoda area, you will also be presented with many buildings with golden yellow domination. In each of these buildings there are Buddha statues with different shapes. Most of the statues are hundreds of years old. There are four entrances leading to the center of the pagoda, following the main cardinal directions. However, the most interesting are the entrances from the south and east. Struktur pagoda dipenuhi benda berharga.

A magnificent pagoda complex in the middle of Yangon, which legend has it dates back more than 2,500 years. You will need to pay 10,000 ks at the ticket counters which can be found at each of the 4 entrances - north, south, east and west - of the complex. Be sure to spot and pay at the ticket counters as staff are sometimes missing (due to rarity of tourists as of May 2023 presumably). Or you will be escorted back to the counter by a friendly security guard to pay your dues. The tiles get hot by 10am in the morning, so show up really early or much later in the day during sunset lest walking around the complex feels like walking in a ring of fire! Footwear is forbidden- you will be give a plastic bag to carry your shoes in for the duration of your visit.

Amazingly complex and beautiful grounds. Take the time to really appreciate all the detail work on the pillars and ceilings. Western visitors need to remember to wear appropriate clothing (shoulders and knees covered). There is a special entrance for foreign guests and an elevator up so you don't need to take all the stairs. You will be barefoot. Bring sunglasses for the glare.

By far the best part of visiting Yangon. Very surreal. I had a tour guide come up to me when I entered. I thought he was working there but he was just some guy that spoke really good English and knew a lot about the place. He ended up asking for 60,000MMT which was way more than I thought he would ask. I ended up giving up the money because I didn't want to cause a scene and it wasn't that much to give up for me. Long story short, if someone comes up to you to guide you through the place, just know they'll ask for a lot of money at the end. He was a great tour guide overall but I wouldn't have followed him if I knew how much he'd end up charging.

I really like this place. I usually go there at least once a month to pay homage to the Pagoda. It's a big Pagoda glistening in gold. It's also the trademark of Yangon as well as the pride of Burmese people. It's a historical, archeological and cultural place. When you go there, you need to wear clothes that cover your knees. Please stay quiet not to disturb the people praying to the Pagoda. You will be amazed by the size and architecture of the Pagoda I'm sure. I put some photos for you to view before going there.

Shwedagon Pagoda is probably one of the first things that you will see in Yangon. It will set your expectations high for the rest of your visit to Myanmar. The pagoda is impressive because of its size, history and rich variety of styles that are assembled in one huge complex of buildings and public spaces. You don't need to visit all of it unless you are willing to allocate at least 3 hours of your time. You will be handsomely rewarded if you do. Shwedagon is not just a collection of temples, it's also a great place to sit and observe how Burmese Buddhists behave in a religious environment.

THE Landmark of Myanmar, probably the most important place-of-interest in an otherwise boring Yangon. Beautiful pagoda and compound, with 4 entrances for you to choose from, although foreigners are usually ushered to take the elevator near the East gate parking lot. Foreigners need to pay about US$8 or MMK 10,000. For a first-timer, it would be great if you can hire a freelance tour guide (usually they will loiter around the elevator lobby) who can tell you many interesting stories about the Pagoda. Tips are usually US$10-15 for a 1-hour tour.

Great place overall but within these times there are military people so you should be careful and not go there unless needed. There are also some clothing requirements and how women can't enter due to the Buddhist religion and its regards. Its currently peaceful and a great place to go if you are a foreigner. It is also a great place to go to for religious purposes. You can take a seat on the tiles and pray to it, meditate or use prayer beads. Would definitely recommend.

(Translated by Google) A visit to this religious complex located in the center of Rangoon is very interesting. In fact, it is the attraction of the city. You can see in it a stupa covered with gold leaf that is more than 100 meters high, among other things. It is recommended to visit it at sunset and entertain yourself watching the monks and novices go by. Highly recommended place for those of us who like photography.

(Translated by Google) You must take off your shoes and move barefoot around the premises. Locals can enter for free if they are wearing folk costumes, but foreigners are obliged to enter at a foreigner's rate. Sightseeing in the daytime is good, but it is more beautiful at night because it is lit up. Or you can't stand in the same place because it's hot during the day, but it's cool at night and you can enjoy sightseeing slowly. If you find it helpful, please give me a [Like 👍]. Stunning! One of the most famous pagodas in the world and it’s certainly the main attraction of Yangon, Myanmar capital city. It can be seen from most places of Yangon day and night as the golden roof illuminates the city. A stimulating experience for your senses.

This is one the iconic spots to go to for tourists. Amazing structure that spoke of intricate craftsmanship and creativity. Although under refurbishment at the time of visit, it was still a very majestic sight. For the avid photographer, this religious site offers many photo opportunities. For the followers of the Buddhist faith, this is where one can pay their respects. It gets especially crowded and lively during celebrations with the streets lined with makeshift hawker stalls. Definitely worth a visit!

The famous pagoda in Yangon and Myanmar. It's better to visit at night than in the daytime if you want to be relax and peaceful. But at night be careful on the way to there. And the pagoda will close at 8 PM.

During my recent visit to Myanmar, my friend took me out for a day. Towards the evening we visited the pagoda. It's big and elegant. Across South East Asia all the pagodas are remarkably calm even though it has lots of tourist. We spent around an hour, could have easily spent more. I dont remember exact amount but foreigners have to pay an entry fee.. suggested time of visit, evening and late evening.

(Translated by Google) But what an atmosphere at nightfall! The site is magical, you can feel the spirituality that emerges from it. The smells, the colors, the noises, everything here is special. The white marble slabs heated by the sun, still give off their heat late at night. (Translated by Google) The pagoda is beautiful and wide. The temple architecture is very splendid. Should go in the afternoon so as not to get sun. Especially, temples in Myanmar must go in barefoot when entering and the pagoda is always covered with gold leaf. Always dress discreetly, pants that are not tight. Myanmar is quite hot and humid. (Translated by Google) It is one of the essential visits if you live in Yangon or Yangon. It is 110 meters high and according to legend 2,500 years old (although recent studies date Shwedagon between the 6th and 10th centuries), being the oldest pagoda in Myanmar and one of the oldest in the world. Its impressive brilliance is the pride of Myanmar (former Burma). It is popularly famous for being covered in gold and crowned with diamonds and rubies. The Shwedagon Pagoda   officially named Shwedagon Zedi Daw  lit. 'Golden Dagon Pagoda' and also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda, is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. The Shwedagon is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. These relics include the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama.

Update:11 July 2022 I have visited on 10 July 2022. The entrance fee for foreigner is MMK10,000 (SGD7.57)(USD5.39)(MYR23.87) per person!🤨 The amount may be small to others but it is unfair to have price difference between locals and foreigners.👎🏻 Afterall, Shwedagon Pagoda is about the same as other Pagodas in 🇲🇲Myanmar, 🇹🇭Thailand, 🇰🇭Cambodia.

This is one of the finest Pagodas in all of Southeast Asia and one of the top things, if not the top thing, to do in Yangon. This is a MUST if you are in Myanmar. The area is huge and there is a lot to explore - at least have a half day free to explore.
