Kiriteshwari Temple (Bengali: কিরীটেশ্বরী মন্দির) is situated in Kiritkona village under the Nabagram Community Development Block, just beside the Panchagram-Nabagram-Lalbagh Road, in the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal. This is among one of the 51 peeths. According to the Puranas or Hindu mythology, the place was named as Kiriteswari. Peeth devi name is devi Vimala and Bhairab is Samvarta. The construction of the temple is more than 1000 years old and this place was considered to be the sleeping place of Mahamaya. Local people call this temple as Mahismardini Temple. The deity is also worshipped as Mukuteshwari as her mukut or crown fell. The original temple was destroyed in 1405. The present temple was re-constructed by Darpanarayan, king of Lalgola in the 19th century and this is the oldest mark of architecture amongst 51 Sati Peethas. It is the oldest temple in the Murshidabad district. There is a myth that Nawab Mir Jaffar in his death bed had requested for the holy Charanamrito (the holy water) of Maa Kiriteswari while suffering from leprosy. Because of some unexpected and unlucky incidents, the original deity was stolen and that's why a new idol was build and in off seasons, it is kept in a safe place which is unknown to all and in special occasions, the idol is being brought and worshipped and the pilgrims offer their prayers. A separate new idol was built by then king and since then it is kept in a new temple, bulit beside the old temple. Its is situated in a very remote village. I personally went there first by crossing the Bhagirathi River from the Hazarduari Ghat, then took a cycle van and reached there. I don't know the exact distance but it is too far from Hazarduari Palace. Other options are also there but, to be honest, I am totally unaware of it. 🙏🏾🌺💮জয় মা কীরিটেশ্বেরী💮🌺🙏🏾

Toto fare from the ghat is around 40 rupees per head. if you want to do the whole tour then 500 would be enough

Just like all other typical rural Indian temples..managed locally. Ambience and facilities not good....specially toilets and solid waste management. Side of pond is filled with plastic materials.

One of the Shaktipithas located 11kms from Azimganj Junction station. A must visit place for tourists to Murshidabad. The name "Kirit" means forehead. Devi's forehead is believed to have dropped here, brining the present name for the place. The place has a rich cultural heritage. People reaching Murshidabad (either side-Jiaganj/Azimganj) can reach the place by hiring a local vehicle TOTO. Coming early by 10 can ensure booking Prasad as lunch. The structure of the main mandir stands as a epitome of the confluence of Buddhist, Islamist and Hindu beliefs. It is indeed a surprising fact that neither any Govt nor the Archaeological Survey of India has taken any step for restoration as well as maintenance of our rich heritage. The place deserves a better maintenance.

One of the most famous and oldest Hindu Temple in Murshidabad district. It is one of the Satipith. According to Hindu mythology,' kirit ' or skull of Goddess Sati had been fallen in this place. Other said, the crown of Goddess Sati had been fallen here. By the way, Very beautiful and calm place. May Goddess Sati bless us.

One of the 51 Sati-Piths. Holy place, peaceful ambiance, popular place for pilgrims, lot of historical evidences were damaged in British era and by Mughal Empires.

It's a little hidden temple much inside village. There are remnants of old temple called Gupto mandir that was created to avoid Nawab Ali Vardi's eye. Architecturally nothing special but historically and religiously important. It's one of the 51 shakti peeth

A peaceful place in Murshidabad. It is situated on the other side of the Ganga river and we went there by a rented toto. The mandir area is calm and only 2 ice cream sellers were seen around. A temporary place was also there from where we bought prasad. If anyone needs to know this, there is a washroom located at one side of the mandir.

Nice place to visit with your family. This is one of the "Sati Pith"... The temple and its surrounding areas are very beautiful. You can feel the real touch of Bengal's village there. The management is good and helpful.

A less known heritage place of Murshidabad, though the site is required to be renovated. Hopefully soon it will be looked after by concern authority as recently the village is announced as Fresh village by GOI. Soon like other places it will become a great place in the map of Murshidabad.

    A. Opening Hours : All day B. Entry Ticket: Free entry C. Location : Kiritkona village, Murshidabad D. Travel mode : Electric rickshaw and Local berge to cross river One of the 51 Shakti Pithas of Purana, where the kirit (crown) of Devi Sati (Mahamaya) , believed to have fallen, this old temple is one of the most revered Hindu temples. The original temple ia believed to be more than 1000 years old and was destroyed in early fifteenth century. The present temple was built by Raja of Lalgola about 200 years ago. We visited this holy shrine in January 2024 during our Murshidabad tour. The simple four cornered brick coloured structure with touch of white insude. There is no deity inside. A red stone represents Devi. This a a temple complex with 16 temples of different deities. The old temple can be seen besides but completely in ruins. This place is the most important Hindu temple in Murshidabad and can be tagged with Khoshbag visit.

this is one of the 51 Sakti Peetha where parts of Sati's body fell. This is where Sati's Kirit or Tiara or crown fall. It is a sacred and 300+ year old place. The original murti is worshipped on special occessions only.

It was crowded and the authority shall look over the stalls because one cannot find way to the temple between those stall. The original old temple was dirt, as a place of worship it shows lack of management in such things .

The road to the temple is a nice rural road with beautiful paddy fields on the both sides. Traveling through such road while sunset makes it surreal.

This hindu temple is made in middle century, actual temple are broken so many times, one old temple was there near the old temple, and other new temple made by hindu ruler. Goddess was protected from attacks to secret temple, just 1 km far from actual temple. Kiriteshari, a Goddess kali temple is a architectural of middle age of hindu civilization.

A place full of positive energy. You can enjoy your puja or meditation as you wish. Only we need some infrastructure development such as pay and use toilets.

  • 3/5 MAHARAJ R. 1 year ago on Google
Shaktipeeth - thats why devotees automatically choise to go on, but too much interior to avail conveyance timely. Neither so crowded nor near to station or junction. That's the main problematic to fullfill the visit of this sacred place.

Very sad state. Priest is smoking biri inside the compound. No development nearby. No shop to purchase flower. If you visit Shakti Pith in UK, UP, Bihar you will see much more crowd. But here no one was there . If proper development being done, it will be a big tourism booster for the area as well.
