An ancient fortress dates back to the 12th century AD, carved into the rocks of a high cliff.. Altitude ~ 1100m, many caves still showen, the fortress features rooms which were soldiers's shelters, also many water reservoir. The reserve guide at the entrance explains the whole story behind this cultural heritage. Interesting story.

Niha is not your typical fortress. To begin with, it's mostly been destroyed, but the fact that it was perched in the middle of a cliff makes it a must-visit. Walking along the short trail is very scenic, although it might be a little scary for some. While the walls don't exist anymore, the caves and storage rooms are still there. The history of the fortress is so interesting, look it up or even better - have the Niha guide explain.

The largest of Lebanon nature reserves, Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve stretches from Dahr Al-Baidar in the north to Niha Mountain in the south. blanketed with oak forests on its northeastern slopes and juniper and oak forests on its southeastern slopes the reserves most famous attractions are its three magnificent cedar forests of Maasser Al-Shouf , Barouk and Ain Zhalta – Bmohary . These Cedar forests account for a quarter of the remaining cedar forest in Lebanon , and some tress are estimated to be 2,000 years old. The size of the reserve makes it a good location for the conservation of medium size mammals such as the wolf and the Lebanese jungle cat, as well as various species of mountain and plants. The Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve is a popular destination for hiking and trekking, with trails matching all levels of fitness. Bird watching, mountain biking and snow shoeing are also popular. From the summit of the rugged mountains, visitors will have a panoramic view of the countryside, eastward to the Beqaa Valley and Qaraoun Lake, and westward toward the Mediterranean.

One of the most beautiful places I have visited. The view is amazing especially when the fog starts to move away. When you go there do not skip the guides as they are excellent and give you a very good idea about the place in general and the history of it. Ask about a very rare animal that exists in the reserve. You will love it.

A small walk between the cliffs ended with a breathtaking view. Originally built in the crusader era and then prince fakher el din renovated the structure.great engineering works and you can notice the stone water tanks and the storage rooms. the entrance os 7000LL but if you already visited barouk amd maaser el shouf reserves in the same day then your entrance is free.

Very nice place to visit. Its a half hour hike. Beautiful nature. Cars can hardly reach the entrance. The road needs maintenance. No toilette are there. The fortress is beautiful. Also the guides there are kind.
