We came for the 8pm dinner slot, had the sashimi platter, mutton barbeque, and the nabe. Everything was so fresh and flavorful but not too much. 1 man doing all the hosting, cooking, cleaning. Everything was too excellent that we came back the next day to try the wagyu sukiyaki, which was also sooo mouth-watering. Definitely worth the try! But don’t forget to reserve early on.

Outstanding service from the nicest gentleman making the best hot pot with the freshest ingredients. We were lucky to get a reservation before our trip was over and so glad we decided to go here for dinner. The chef was extremely hospitable and was always looking to make sure we were taken care of. Must go if you get the opportunity. We got the Tom Yum Hotpot!

Cakuichi is one of the best hot pot restaurants in Hakuba, not big or flashy but great Japanese charm.

Great food, authentic, yummy, and a great experience. I wish I could give it more stars. A hidden gem and worth the hunt to find.

highly recommend the asian hotpot!! we selected the yosenabe broth with seafood and it was amazing. also had the wagyu beef sukiyaki and grilled hokke fish, which were delicious and comforting when the weather was cold. note that this is an izakaya, everyone must order a drink besides water. reservations required since this is a one-man kitchen.

As mentioned elsewhere, an awesome experience. Reservations only, 6 or 8pm time slot. The owner is great. Had an understanding of wheat allergy/gluten free. Had Sashimi and Tom Yum Hot Pot. Sukiyaki and Hot Pot were both non GF.

We had dinner here, hands down the best food in Japan! We had the wagu meal and a few other things in the menu and absolutely everything was the most delicious food ever. Toshio Horie was an incredible host and cook! Only 10 people fit here so make sure you call ahead!

Best restaurant I tried during my stay at Hakuba, Very very delicious! Everything was perfect

After 3 times trying to book, we finally managed to secure a seat here. Small restaurant that could fit only 10 guests at a time, with 1 person doing all the jobs but still could provide top quality dishes. We went for Wagyu shabu shabu and it’s well worth the price. Special of the day is definitely a must! We had prawn and scallop ajillo, savored to the last drop!

Tiny, cosy hotpot restaurant. Friendly chef and amazing food. The hotpot was great - but the sashimi was the stand out for me. Must book.

Exceptional service. Toshiyo communicates though his food. His recommendations were spot on. We lapped up his waigyu skiyaki with plenty of Bordeaux, but the entree Yellowtail sashimi was our favourite. We were privileged to receive his personal attention and generous spirit. Thank you for spoiling us more every year!

The food here is absolutely incredible. I came in as a solo guest and was made feel very welcome. The hotpot was amazing, and the service brilliant. Definitely recommend as a must-go if you're staying in the Happo area.
