The best! I strongly recommend this restaurant! Cathy is friendly and helpful. The food is amazing and they offer coffee from Switch cafe where is super popular for speciality coffee!

Very good food. Loved the shibazuke sauce, pork was cooked perfectly. Roast onion in the the cashew sauce dish was really caramelized and delicious. There was also poppy seed cake which is rare for Tokyo!

This place is delicious. Brunch or dinner... Fantastic!! I highly recommend Locale because it provides a modern and skillful take on western cuisine. On the current menu, the eggs commodore, avocado on toast and banana pancakes are all exceptional. Best to book in advance as not a big place.

A wonderful little gem of a restaurant run by the loveliest people. Brilliant Western menu with an Eastern twist. Advise booking to guarantee seating indoors and outside. Super coffee!!!

(Translated by Google) Cafe that makes you feel like you are completely abroad I had a healthy lunch. The taste is ok. Coffee isn't very good. I think it's the best cafe to change your mood. One point is that no clerk is wearing a mask. .. Over the counter, it's a cooking table right away, and it seems like the spit of the customers will fly. It is a pity that no measures have been taken against corona.

Nice and cozy cafe in Meguro. The seats are limited so we made reservation but if you are lucky, can walk in. We went for brunch and ordered Wagyu Cheese Burger (1600 yen), Avocado on toast with poached egg on top (1400 yen), and banana pancakes. The cheeseburger was delicious. The meat came out juicy. The sauce was on the spot. Goes well with Milk bun. I love the avocado dish! The only thing I don’t like is the poached egg which is a bit overcooked for my liking. But overall, the seasoning was on point and I finished it in a blink. The highlight is the banana pancake. This pancake is different from all the fluffy pancakes you can find in other places because it’s baked in the oven and the texture is very dense but at the same time, soft. There is a lot of banana inside and with the syrup, this dish is definitely a MUST TRY here!

Excellent dinner. After a month of eating almost only Japanese, felt almost exotic and homey at the same time. Five-course tasting menu featured three vegetarian apps followed by fish or pork. Interesting flavor combinations, local Japanese produce. Limited but smart wine selection (also exotic after month of sake). Lovely intimate space, about a dozen at capacity. Service unobtrusive and efficient. Pricey by local standards but very reasonable by New York ones.

An absolute gem of a restaurant. A fantastic experience where you are interactive with Katy and Ben (who are both lovely people) throughout the meal, along with other diners. The food is out of this world, they are both highly knowledgeable about the ingredients and if you want food that tastes how the ingredients are meant to.. simple and fresh, this is your place. For 5 courses and 3 glasses of wine, the bill came to 11,000 yen and it was money well spent indeed. I cannot wait to visit with my gf (Who isn't that bad Katy ;-) ) Good music too!

Truly one of the best restaurants in Tokyo! The three person staff manages to give each diner personal attention so that you really feel special. The food is thoughtfully prepared and each course is better than the last. And the wine selection strikes the perfect balance of variety without overwhelming you. Cannot recommend Locale highly enough. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time; it’s a small spot that only fits around 40. .

I don’t know if this was just a one time thing, but the place didn’t have ANY functioning air conditioning and it was one of the hottest days Tokyo’s had in the summer. It was absolutely boiling inside and it doesn’t help that there were quite a lot of people in a small space. They did give us fans but they were definitely not effective. The food was good but extremely overpriced and the location was super inconvenient to get to. The service was decent and everyone spoke English. But I don’t think I’ll be going again.

(Translated by Google) It feels like a lot of regular customers. It is a very stylish and small place. The staff are foreigners and it is a little difficult to understand whether they are friendly or refreshing, but the food was delicious. However, the price is very high! It ’s organic, but it ’s expensive.

Great experience. Staff are very attentive and welcoming. The concept of the restaurant is locally grown farm produce. Food is very tasty and they have a good selection of wines too. There are around 4-5 tables and a large counter so experience feels very personalised. Recommended.

Fantastic experience all around. The team at Locale did a great job managing various tasks and letting the atmosphere and environment created by the chef and star, Katy, make the magic! My friend and I had a mind to sample everything on the brunch menu, but we decided on two items. Both left us talking about what we'd try the next time we come around. I'll be back again soon. Lovely.

The food is fusion style and every plate is like a piece of art work. Some combinations will surprise your sense of taste! This place is a must try! It’s a great restaurant for both friends hangout and date ;) I especially like the bar area seats, I can’t get to watch how the chef prep the plate! Amazing!

Locale is an okay little brunch spot. Reservations are a must . Avocado toast is very photogenic and delicious. Burger is a little tiny but packed full of flavor. Banana pancakes were my favorite item..very tasty. Coffee game needs serious work..black coffee was a step above diner coffee. Overall pretty decent stop

I’ve been debating reviewing Locale for a while because part of me wants to keep it a hidden Tokyo gem for myself, but alas I have to tell it to the people. Locale is an intimate and delicious restaurant in my neighborhood of Meguro. Katy is so kind and lovely to chat with. I love how passionate she is about the food she makes and the local farms she sources her produce from. Highly recommend you take a seat at the bar and chat with her if your occasion allows for it. I’ve been here several times, each time just as (or more delicious) than the past. She makes some mean ciabatta - if you’re dieting or gluten free I recommend just sacrificing it for a taste because it’s so dang good. You order a la cart or the course menu - always go for the course. So good, the food keeps coming, and it’s always amazing. Do try this restaurant if you’re in the area. If you’re in a group - try to make a reservation if you can! Cheers!

Was craving some veggies and this place was perfect! We loved the avocado dish so much we ordered it twice 😂 When we went, it was in the middle of summer and we sat outside so lots of mosquitoes. Be prepared to bring repellent! Otherwise all good! Would love to go for their brunch menu!

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Locale is an understated spot with a wonderful home-like and cozy atmosphere. Really appreciated the team’s focus on seasonal produce and the food is delicious. Whether you choose à la carte or the tasting menu, this is very reasonably priced especially considering the quality. Their wine list is interesting and varied, with a good focus on smaller producers. Locale is a lovely spot for a date or for taking out a vegetarian friend, because the team are great at adapting to dietary restrictions. All told I really enjoyed Locale and can’t wait to return someday soon.

I loved the casual vibe that gives you the feeling you’re at a friend’s house and they are cooking for you as you sip on your wine! I was a big fan of the simplicity of the food, and the well balanced and interesting choices of vegetables being cooked in ways I haven’t seen. I was sitting in the corner so couldn’t chat with the chef that much this time, but definitely will be back again for another delicious experience.

Locale is a true gem of Tokyo. It was recommended to me by a friend and my god, it did not disappoint! The food and vibe of this place were incredible. Chef Katy, Ben and Sara make you feel at home from the moment you get there, which make the experience so much more enjoyable! It was so good that had to go back the morning after for their weekend brunch! If you are in Tokyo is a must

Open kitchen concept. Real time food prep around an L shaped counter in an intimate space. Beautiful ingredients and fresh, gorgeous flavors. It sounded like ingredients were sourced from local farms (including the crispy bacon at brunch) and you can’t end brunch without the pancakes “for the table.”

Well known among the local foreign crowd in Tokyo, it's a small cozy store. The food was really great - hands down the best brunch / brekkie I've had in Japan. Ordered the Commodore - might look like your ordinary eggs on English muffin but was so much better. Banana pancakes - didn't think I could get so excited about these but they were excellent. A few cute seats outside for a sunny day.

What a fantastic experience we had dining at Locale. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming, and it feels as though you’ve come to a friends house for dinner. I could have easily spent the entire evening sipping a glass of wine at our window-side table. Chef Katy was warm and bubbly and we enjoyed chatting with her and finding a fellow Californian living in Tokyo. We opted for the lighter tasting menu and were so glad we got to try everything, as each course was so unique, but all the dishes worked well together. Ingredients are all farm to table, and Katy does a great job of letting the high quality ingredients shine, but also creatively bringing out their flavors. Would highly recommend and will be returning soon.

Cozy, local restaurant serving creative, California inspired dishes. Has a few tables and counter seats, which allow you to see the chef at work and have a conversation with the cheerful owner/chef. We enjoyed a Sunday brunch and will be back for dinner. Highly recommended!

Walked in there in search of a bakery in the hood but ended up eating in there. The vibe is very welcoming and charming and the owner/chef is very friendly and cheerful. The food is cali style: Fresh, light, but very satisfying. Coffee is nice and strong, but you gotta wait till 10am for cappuccino. Gotta go back for dinner!

Returned to Locale after my first visit five years ago, and it was everything I had hoped for. Warm, tuned in casual staff. Balanced, creative veggie heavy California food with all sorts of local ingredients. Nothing pretentious, everything delicious! And that focaccia!! If I lived in Tokyo I’d try for a standing reservation! It’s that good.

We had the best experience at Locale! I call it an experience bc it was so much more than a dinner. You could tell the owner/chef chose her ingredients with care, and made each dish with love. She sources her ingredients locally, including the meats from her favorite farms. The restaurant is small, so a perfect place to rent out for a group of 10 or so people. We reserved the whole place for a group and she worked with us to prepare the menu and it made for the best night ever. We will definitely be back next time we are in Tokyo!

  • 5/5 Gregg D. 1 year ago on Google
Farm to table, the most mouth watering Japanese ingredients, and California culinary expertise translate into one of the most amazing dining experiences imaginable. Set in a cozy, comfortable setting, its informal atmosphere strips away the traditionally austere Japanese dining interaction, opening up conversations, interactions and a vibe that is unmatched anywhere else in the world. Consider yourself lucky to sit at the chef’s counter or huddle into a corner with close friends and immerse yourself in a world where the only things that matter are wine pairings and the next course.

  • 5/5 Tanapat R. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing brunch spot in Tokyo. The place is quite small so if you're coming with a party of 2 or more, I highly recommend making a reservation. I had the egg commodore and the banana pancakes. The egg commodore is kind of like an egg Benedict with a different sauce. I'm not sure what they use but it doesn't have the acidity of a hollandaise sauce. This dish was good but I didn't find anything special (one of the eggs was also overcooked). However, the banana pancakes were amazing. Hands down one of the best pancakes I've had in a long time. They slow cook it in a way that makes the pancakes really crispy. The bananas also was cooked perfectly and went really well with the maple syrup. Overall, this place is a must go if you're looking for brunch spots in Tokyo. The portion is a bit small though so you probably have to order two dishes to be full.

Wow wow wow! This has been one of the best restaurants i‘ve been to and believe me i’ve been to many! Locale is a nice cozy organic restaurant in Tokyo. The staff was amazing and you felt like you were eating at home. Food was INCREDIBLE! The portions weren’t massive so if you’re more into that this restaurant might not be it. You can try every meal on the menu which changes every day, depending on what the local farmers have. They make sure to take time during the meals which i love because you don‘t feel like you’re in a rush. The food is so fresh and you can really taste the good quality from the farmers. If you want a little change in Japan after all these ramens I really recommend you going there. You‘ll be so welcome there by the lovely staff. And the wine was amazing! We will be back!

Locale is amazing! I highly recommend this place. It's a 13 minute walk from Tokyo Westin tucked away in a residential area. I was greeted warmly when I entered, and even though I didn't have a reservation, they welcomed me in to a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The food is served in a small plates style. If I could do it over again, I would look into making a reservation. The tomatoes melted in my mouth. The texture and flavor was so satisfying it was like the tomatoes were a pizza within themselves. The texture, flavor, and quality of the food was phenomenal. The price may seem a bit on the high end - about $80 - $100 - however even in food alone you are getting that value. I had such a great experience visiting this restaurant, and I want to get the word out there. The owners deserve so much praise. I hope to come back soon - if not on this trip, then one in the future. :)
