Its a nice museum, with a few historical artefacts. Most artefacts have been removed; however there is a nice souvenir shop in the back where one can order custom made wooden and metal goods.

Interesting exhibition but very carelessly done. No photography allowed, there was a guard running behind us the whole time to check.

I could not access the museum as it was closed. However, right behind is a small handcraft market that is definitely worth the visit. Of course, you will find the basic and serial "traditional" handcraft that is readily available for tourists but...Nampula is NOT a touristic city. You will also find amazing artists that will show you their unique pieces if you take the time to really engage the conversation around the meaning of their art.

The museum needs to receive more attention from national authorities to preserve the memory and the history of Mozambique. Reserve at least 2 hours for this visit and take the opportunity to see a handcraft market in the back of the museum. Beautiful sculptures of black wood are available for a good price. The sellers are always willing to negotiate, so bargain.

Nampula etno. One of the few tourist places to visit. On the back yard is the MAKONDE SCULPTURE ASSOCIATION

Art Deco building, impressive ethnographic collection, very helpful staff, craft village around the back is the real deal.

Very interesting exhibits, however no information whatsoever. There is some basic description in Portuguese, but nothing in English. It seems that staff at the entrance can help with guides in English, but it depends on your luck.
