Hugo’s is a nice, upscale seafood place with a very modern design that feels inviting. The staff is also very pleasant and our service was impeccable. The issue here, really, is the food. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, by any means, it’s just nothing is really what you expect it to be. For instance, the Bacon Clam Chowder was good, but the bacon flavor overpowered everything to the point that it was all I tasted. It was more like a cream of bacon soup than a clam chowder. It definitely wasn’t bad, but when you order clam chowder you want clam chowder. And pretty much all the food was like that: tasty, but not really what I was expecting, so it led to some stark disappointment. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience and I’d be willing to try it again. And maybe knowing that the food is a little more left of center than described would help the next, as my expectations will be more in line with what I’d get. But as it stands after trying it once, our group was left a little bewildered and unsatisfied.

I went here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I sat at the bar and felt that the whole the bartender did wait on me, he was much more attentive to “regulars” that he seemed to know by name. They were not terribly busy, but the wait for my food was 25+ minutes. The veggie burger and side salad were good. Nothing over the moon, but something I’d recommend and get again. I don’t honestly plan on going back anytime soon. Not that my experience was bad, but I wasn’t wowed by the whole experience.

Update: stopped in for lunch and ordered the giant crab cake and wedge salad which was delicious! Excellent service and food. We stopped on Valentine's Day without a reservation and were seated immediately at 12 noon. In a booth! By 12:45 there were maybe 15 people SRO waiting for seating so we were lucky. Our server Deonte was great. He knew the specials and answered our questions. Very efficient server as we noticed he was super busy with many tables. Drinks and soup came right away. We ordered shrimp po'boys and they were so good. Key lime pie for dessert is a MUST here!! Highly recommend and we can hardly wait to come back!

Stopped in for lunch on a sweltering Sunday afternoon. Service was great, the whole experience was classy. Great menu along with a very expansive wine list. Of course we had to start with the frog legs which were delish. Whats nice is they have something for everyone. If you don’t want to spend a lot on the high ticket items they have sandwiches and smaller plates. Will definitely be back to try more menu items!

Only been here once and was impressed with the food. My husband and I both ordered steaks and I had a Moscow mule which was so refreshing and exactly perfect to go with my delicious meal. I did not try the frog legs but saw a couple near us eating some and they looked like they were really enjoying them, so if you’re into exotic foods I would say give this place a try. Place is huge and it’s cute the way they have little like fairy lights hanging on Ceiling. Our waitress was friendly and took great care of us. Highly recommend. Also our steaks were juicy, tender and flavorful and so were veggies and mashed potatoes

Service of superb and attentive. Amazing food. We tried frog legs for the first time. Chicken milenase was done beautifully. We completed the meal with wonderful espresso and creme brulee.

This was my first time at Hugos’s and I was not disappointed one bit. I sat at the bar and my bartender Anthony was very friendly, attentive, and made the best dirty martini I’ve had in a long time. We started out with oysters, frog legs, and escargot, everything came out SO delicious. For my entree I ordered a burger which was cooked perfectly medium rare. Thanks for the great experience, will definitely be back.

Never disappoints! Service and food are excellent. Devonte was our server; we've had his booth before. He knows the menu, is attentive and personable. Jared the manager stopped by to say hello and welcomed us. The environment is very nice without being stuffy. Highly recommend!

Had high expectations staff was wonderful very friendly food was okay. The calamari was served with good and the lobster roll was as well. Fish sandwich was bland and fell apart did not hold. The oysters where just meh. Papaduex is still the best seafood in the west suburbs.

Nick M was my waiter. He did an excellent job describing the food, keeping me in water, letting me sample the red blends and coming around just enough. We had the East and West Coast oysters. Both were delicious. They serve the oysters with a cucumber miguette that was a refreshing choice. Soups were steaming hot and satisfying. We shared crab cakes and the signature steak/rare. We loved both choices. Brussel Sprouts and sautéed mushrooms were just ok.Fries are thin and crispy. Ask for Nick, seriously great server!

Tried frog legs for the first time and they were phenomenal! The crab cake and firecracker shrimp were very good as well. My sister and I stopped in here to finally try it out after always being drawn to it and were not disappointed! Our waiter was knowledgeable in explaining and describing each dish and was very responsive to any requests. Our drinks, the Oaxacan Paloma and Polenta Picante were a perfect addition on our sister date. No complaints at all - We're looking forward to going back again!

I'm only giving 4 stars for the food, because of the mistake made in the kitchen for my steak. ( ordered medium well, but they brought medium rear. 🙄 the server took it back to the kitchen and brought it back, completely burned 🔥. But overall, we liked everything else. The fish was excellent, and Creme Brulee was incredible good 👍

Hugo’s is one of our go to’s in Naperville. Tonight was excellent as usual. We were seated on the beautiful patio and started with the lobster bisque and clam chowder, followed by the whitefish and salmon. All were amazing as well as our service. The Manager Joe stopped by several times to assure everything met our expectations. Parking garage is one block away. Highly recommend this place!!

Last Sunday, my family and I stopped in for a quick lunch. We had a nice spot to sit outside by the fountain. Hospitality isn't dead. We were very taken care of by our servers. (Hadi) There were 7 of us, and my drink was never empty. The food was nice and hot well presented. Hugos frog bar was a laid-back, comfortable experience. Watching the kiddos looking at the fountain, the music playing was perfect. Everyone was nice That strawberry short cake is unforgettable

Today is my second time dining here and they are constantly very good. I had the warm lobster roll and house salad. The lobster was a generous portion perfectly cooked, salad fresh. My husband had a steak dip sandwich with mashed potatoes. The steak was fresh and great quality both tender and tasty. The desserts are very generous and well prepared. A well balanced wine list as well as cocktails complement the dinner. They have a generous and well priced lunch menu available till 3 pm. Oysters and crab cakes were a common theme in the dining room. Only disappointment was the coffee I expected more from them.

Let me start by saying that the only reason I didn’t give this place a 2 star review; is because of our waiter Ray. He was very attentive & courteous. Ray was welcoming and made us feel comfortable even after having to send back our bland food back. To keep it brief the calamari was pretty bad - wasn’t fried good and came out sitting in a puddle of oil. Prime rib steak sandwich was chewy and bland. The fillet was decent, but nothing to rave about.

One of my favorite places to eat for special occasions! Hugo’s has delicious seafood and meat dishes! Particular favorites of ours are the baked goat cheese, the jumbo lump crab cake, the faroe island salmon, and the traditional Maine lobster roll. As far as side dishes go, the mashed potatoes with red wine gravy are my absolute favorite and I order them every time I go!

I’ve been going here for lunch with my family for years and we love this place. Best tip I can give is to come here for lunch rather than dinner because you’ll end up eating the same amount of food for half the price! Would also recommend the fish and chips, or anything that comes with fries. They are so good here!

It's been a long time since I've been out in Naperville but the downtown area has a lot of options. Hugo's had good ratings and some items on the menu that intrigued me. I'm so happy that's where we landed for dinner! Everything was delicious but the sautéed button mushrooms were definitely the highlight. The calamari had a medley of calamari and peppers and the brussels were very good. The salmon that came with my salad was a descent size as well. We didn't have a reservation but got in quickly even though it was pretty busy. Service was great.

Hugo’s as always, never disappoints and has exceptional seafood offerings including the oysters on the half shell and the escargot. I’d like to suggest to the Naperville Hugo’s to invest in new barstools at the bar since some are wobbly and in need of replacement or repair. Overall the atmosphere is lively, the service is approachable yet classy and personable, and the menu offerings and quality will keep you coming back. Katherine and I came back for another visit on August 4, 2023 and had an amazing lunch. Our server Thomas was meticulously on point and warm and friendly and offered the most exceptional service at all the right times. For starters, Katherine and I each had a glass of the Ruffino Chianti along with the always famous beet salad from Hugos. The beet salad has yellow and red beets, a little fennel, some candied, hazelnuts, and some spring greens. I ended up having the prime ribeye steak sandwich that is absolutely unbelievably off the charts. It is a 10 out of 10 and frankly more tender than most prime, ribeye steaks that you order! It has gone up about nine dollars over the years since I first started ordering it. It is still a good value though. Katherine had the lake perch special and it was exceptional. We got to sit in the very special elevated, most private booth which made our enjoyable lunch that much more special! Overall, this Hugos gets 4 3/4 stars! The food is always a near five star and the atmosphere is definitely 4 star and once again, when the bar area gets new barstools worthy of its regular loyal patrons, I will change the review to a 5 star. I hope the Gibson group looks at my review and considers the very few and minor refinements needed to make the experience a consistent five star.

Great food and drinks. Staff is friendly. Our favorite spot to sit at is the patio by the fountain. I do recommend reservations as at times can be quite busy.
