The somewhat austere facade of Gesu Nuovo belies the impressive and grand interior. The gilded ceilings representing biblical and saintly narratives exalting the name of Jesus soar above intricately inlaid marble floors. Constructed as a palace in 1470, it was converted to a cathedral in 1601. The architectural style is renaissance, while the fittings are baroque. Simply unforgettable.

The most beautiful Baroque church in Naples. It may look modest and small from the outside, but when you step inside, it feels like you're in a spacious museum where each chapel is a work of art. The interior is very grand and magnificent.

The outside facade is unlike most any church I've seen but the inside is pretty traditional. I loved the huge thick columns. Beautiful artwork and paintings. Well worth stopping in of it's open.

Entrance is free. Working time: 8 till 1 PM and then again 4 to 7:30 PM. The church is beautiful from the inside. When looking from outside only, you can`t tell this is a church.

This a beautiful cathedral in the centre of Naples. I absolutely love the ceiling art and am always amazed at the effort that is put into achieving this. The cathedral is large and a lot of things to see. Very impressive.

It is located in the centre of Naples. The square of Gesu Nuovo contains three prominent landmarks. The church of Gesu Nuovo, The Church of Santa Chiara and The spire of the Immaculate Virgin. It's a must visit place in Naples. You have a lot of options for food and shopping in this area. Naples is the one of the best places I have visited in Italy. The people are very kind and generous in helping. Have a good time.

One of the most beautiful building ever. Timeless... actual and elegant-simplicity. If let’s say... Prada had to build now a new Shop in... Tokyo it will be maybe like that.

Gesù Nuovo, also known as the 'New Jesus', is one of the most important churches and also the most beautiful church in Naples. The church is called Gesù Nuovo to distinguish the basilica from the ancient church of Jesus. It was built in 1470 by Prince Salerno Roberto Sanseverino. Today, the Gesù Nuovo owes its popularity to the overwhelming interior, many frescoes, colorful garden and decorated rooms. The church became the leading example for the Neapolitan Renaissance and Baroque.

You can see the architecture of baroque and renaissance in this built also a church. İn barok architecture you can see a lot of religious motif and sculptures then after renaissance the built was restoreted. And you can see a lot of dome, geometric and scientific shapes that builted feom trailer at old time. There are grave that rich someone could buy at that time. And you can see empty grave here

One of the most beautiful churches in Naples. It is such a historic chapel built in 1407, I was awestruck with the architecture and minute detailing. I’d totally recommend everyone to please go experience the beauty

Definitely worth checking out if you like historical places, baroque architecture and art. The interior is striking. I was surprised there was no fee to enter as it must be costly to maintain.

Much of the castle is off limits, tour guides aren’t great. I managed to learn more through a google search than an hour long tour. If I went again, I’d just pay the entry fee and do a quick walk through.

The little square is one of many in Naples and generally in Italy. You must go inside the church, it's free entry. It's one of the most beautiful and majestic interiors i have seen!

Very unusual facade (the church is a former aristocratic palace from the 15th century) and a very nice interior with an amazing dome. An Italian "modern" saint - physician Joseph Moscati - is buried here.

Gesù Nuovo (Italian New Jesus) is the name of a church and a square in Naples, Italy. They are located just outside the western boundary of the historic center of the city. To the southeast of the spire[clarification needed], one can see a block away the Fountain of Monteoliveto and the piazza of the church of Sant'Anna dei Lombardi. The square is a result of the expansion of the city to the west beginning in the early 16th century under the rule of Spanish viceroy Pedro Alvarez de Toledo. The square of Gesù Nuovo contains three prominent landmarks: The Church of Gesù Nuovo The Church of Santa Chiara The spire or guglia of the Immaculate Virgin

Spectacular church and landmark of Naples. A must see in Naples.

  • 5/5 Никита . 2 years ago on Google
Although outside it looks really strange, inside it is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I've seen. The height of the ceiling and the amount of details in the ornaments create feeling that this cathedrals took as much effort to build as the entire other city combined. The only problem with it is that it has nothing to do with faith. It is just about amount money and human resources spent on building it. There is absolutely no feeling of anything spiritual. Any small church will bring more religious feelings, than this "colossus". But anyway it is must-see without doubts.
