One of the most famous cafes in Naples. Ok, so need to see. It is located in the most beautiful part of the city and the cafe is impressive. Inside it is beautiful and delightful. The coffee and desserts are tasty and worth trying. Unfortunately, the prices are absurdly high. I understand the history and the location, but still, a coffee for 6-7 euros? The waiters are not the most pleasant either. Well, it's worth it once, and then you can go somewhere cheaper and just as tasty.

Lovely historic and iconic Naples cafe serving tasty pastries and coffees. Steeped in history and tradition it was a lovely break from all the sight seeing in the area. Outdoor dining area was refreshing and perfect for afternoon tea and people watching. We had their signature hazelnut coffee and mini pastry sampler. Really hit the spot!

Prestigious coffee place. The entire experience is worth it. The coffees are well prepared and the pastries delicious. Be aware that it cost money to sit down inside to drink coffee and another extra to eat. (It costs 5 euros in total for the sitting per person without the price of the coffee and croissant).

An absolute must. The place is gorgeous and a Naples icon, the coffee was delicious and the pastries were top quality. If you want to indulge and sit at the tables, prices are higher but I feel that’s fair as you pay for the experience, not just the products. The service inside was extremely courteous and professional.

I know this is a famous cafeteria in Naples. But my experience here… Staff was very selfish and trying to be busy. To bring us coffee it took them several calls from us, if they didn’t forget on us. The prices are high but i would accept that if the staff was nicer. At the end i would recommend to go there to take photos but i wouldn’t recommend to stay here for coffee.

Extremely poor service and unnecessarily overpriced. Came here as a recommendation from a friend who had come many years ago. On coming today in Aug 24, the place was extremely busy. There is a ‘order, pay and receive ticket’ service for takeaway and for seating, it seemed that there is no real system. We approached two waiting staff re sitting and both were rude and dismissive despite there being a table available. Others were having the same issue. We seated ourselves and waited (and patiently waited and called for staff) to order. No response. Notably, the sit down price for each item is over double the takeaway price. We ended up leaving our table after numerous attempts to order at the table and got takeaway pastries and coffee instead. Coffee was good but the pastries were truly nothing special, especially considering the price and atmosphere. Definitely not memorable. Thankful that we didn’t travel too out of our way to come here. Purely due to the disappointing service throughout, would not come again.

Name and history is not everything. Coming from Canada vs being in Italy where espresso was invented this is a major disappointment. Cappuccino was subpar especially for Eur 6 and the croissant I ate was just okay. The servers are distracted and you really need to get their attention so they give you service. Everything looks very pretty given the venue and history but what you came here for is at best average.

The food is great. It’s is tasty and looks great. Also please notice there is very limited quantity of not dessert food. The coffee is ok. The desserts are really cool. Virgin mojito I took (because it was way too hot for alcohol drink) was not good, there was even no lime in, also it was in the ingredients in menu. The service - is the reason for this quantity of stars… it’s just not there. With place not being so crowded when we arrived, they always look busy and disregard you for someone or something else. They are not interested in your presence, what you want, nothing. Zero. I’m so so disappointed.

More expensive than its peers but worth every penny in my opinion. Their Sfogliatella is perfect. Crispy, warm, fresh and lightly sweetened with a hint of lemon. I also had the donut, you can imagine how fresh and clean the oil that the donut fried in must be. I will definitely come back. Edit: to have the pastry warm, you will need to sit down at the table, otherwise it is served cold which loses some flavor.

Had a lovely Father’s Day brunch with my dad here a couple of days ago. It’s a rather small cafè, but the interior is to die for. The staff are very friendly and competent and the prices are pretty fair in my opinion. If you want to order something to take out, you have to pay for it first and then hand your bill to the staff behind the bar/display (a system I wasn’t familiar with at first, but it makes sense, especially when the place gets really busy). I can recommend the pistachio coffee and most of all the violet ice cream that also Empress Sisi ate, during her 1890 visit (I had it many times during our trip). Should I ever be in Naples again, I’ll be looking forward to visit this place again.

Historic cafe in Naples. It’s sweet delicacies, and extensive range of Neapolitan pastries are of the Highest quality. Depending or how much time or money you want to spend, you can follow the crowd and have a quick espresso and a treat standing at one of the counters, try your luck with a terrace table or enjoy the opulence and elegance or the tearoom.

Beautiful historic cafe right beside Piazza del Plebiscito. The desserts are very nicely dressed and presented, and the cafe itself has a great aesthetic and is very cleanly. The waitstaff also where’s chromatic outfits with white blazers. The pistachio-espresso drink I ordered was insane. Pistachio cream was once of the best pistachio-related things I’ve ever had. It’s definitely worth a visit, but it is sometimes very crowded and the prices are steep. I knew this ahead of time, but it still affects the experiences. No biggie though since the rest of Naples is so inexpensive.

This place is super overrated. Not only that it’s too expensive but also the service was bad and food and drinks just average. Not a good experience and not worth the price.

Oldest café of Naples. It is a piece of art and as each piece of art you have to desire to get. I mean you have to queue to get in 😇 But once you are in you enjoy Italian Apero. After which you don’t go for a dinner. Drinks, food and service are deserving 7 stars rate! And there is a gentleman playing a violin 🎻 If you know what I mean you will take a plain to Naples right now 🥰😇

Outstanding place! Everything is superb! The place is right in the heart of "Piazza del Plebescito". I was lucky enough to catch a table next to the window with a great view. The serving was very friendly. The bathrooms may be a little bit crowdy- they even had a valet over there!Super clean✅️ The Menu looks amazing with lots of variety- i had to spend 10 minutes to decide what to try☺️ Everything was superb. Very crowdy but totally worth it! I remained with beautiful tasty memories. P.S. try their unique and the only pizza from the menu. Small size but enough to remain happy in the end🤤 I'll be back for sure!

The place is impressive but the quality of what offered does not keep up with the beauty of the place. Also the service was not impressive. I had a granita with big clumps of ice…same quality if the ones you can buy in the streets nearby for half of the price. A visit is a must but definitely non coming back

This place is beautiful and classic, and a must see if you’re in Naples. However, the food and coffee are over rated and high priced I’d say. You can get better elsewhere, but you come here for the atmosphere. We had a coffee and some pastries, but they randomly added sugar to my coffee so I had to get another….which they then got wrong. The coffee was ok, but nothing amazing. The service wasn’t that great either and they weren’t particularly friendly. Worth it for the view and atmosphere but don’t expect too much in terms of quality

Nice old cafe, worth a visit, but on terrace prices are double to what they are inside. All staff did not speak English, which should be a must on tourist attraction. Poor coffee when you think this is Italy. Cakes similar to everywhere else, delicious but similar.

Came here one late morning for a coffee and a pastry, we tried an assortment of their small pastries, they were all very yummy and the restaurant itself was so beautiful inside, we got a table with a view of the outside plaza and absolutely enjoyed it. My favoriete pastry was the Ricotta filled pastry, they also have a nice variety of coffees. We came in around noon, did not have to wait at all for a table inside but the patio was packed.

A memorable experience at a historic place. Thoroughly enjoyed the coffee especially the americano (black). Flavorful and a distinctly different taste but in a good way. Sitting under the umbrella outside is more expensive than standing as all places are in Italy but I thought it was well worth it. The breeze coming off the ocean was perfect to relax for a moment. If you are facing the the cafe, I’d recommend following the street closely until it bends left. We had no particular plan but happen to stumble across one of, if not the, premier high end shopping areas comparable to 5th Avenue in NY. If you are in the area, I’d highly recommend stopping by. Spend $20-$40 without comparing it to anywhere else. It won’t break the bank and you will enjoy your time.

Overall: 6/5, I have to add additional 1 mark to the team with the extra interactions for just cafe service + the gorgeous building! Location:5/5, at the heart of the plaza! Environment: 6/5, my first 6/5 remarks for a cafe! Maybe a bit excited from my end, while if you shall go and experience, prove me of o am correct for a 6/5 🤣 Food and drinks:5/5, a great selection for both cafe and pastry!

Stopped here for dessert. Had mini-cannoli, berry cheesecake, and coffee gelato. I really want to highlight the coffee gelato because it was the best coffee-flavored gelato or ice cream I’ve ever had. Most notably, it had coffee beans mixed into it and I really enjoyed the crunch.

The best and must a visit place in Naples. We stayed inside the coffeehouse in summer although there was no air conditioner. It didn’t bother us cause we enjoyed the interior design of the coffeehouse. We ordered Neapolitan espresso, lemon and peach ice cream and famous sfogliatelle. Everything tasted super good. There are lots of varieties of pastries and coffee. And no doubt they taste good.

No issues with food, coffee or location. Beautiful place with delightful pastries. Service is unfortunately lackluster at best. Be prepared to spend plenty of time waiting to be noticed, your order to arrive and table to be cleared. If not in a rush and prepared to accept this you'll have a decent experience.

5 star experience, only rating a 4 since it was a bit pricey (explained later). I recommend coming earlier since it is a very popular spot & can fill up fast. We came at about 8:30am and were able to get seated right away (recommend outside, it's a beautiful covered area to sit at out of the sun). By the time we were finishing up there were several groups of people waiting for seats. The cappuccino was delicious & rich. We also ordered a cannolo (so good! great filling) and a slice of the caprese cake . We wanted to try the vesuvia too but unfortunately were told it was not available & would take an hour. Despite that we were very satisfied with our food & coffee and the overall atmosphere. Now for the price. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because of the wonderful experience. Unfortunately it was pricey (ex 6 euros for a cannolo) probably because it's such a well known spot and near Piazza del Plebiscito. However, for perspective we have eaten at a couple other very popular food spots in Naples (not a cafe but places with many reviews & very long lines/crowds) and despite the popularity their prices have stayed extremely reasonable. Honestly more reasonable than you'd find for mediocre food in the US. Either way highly recommend Gran Caffè Gambrinus on your visit to Naples!

I have been there twice. Once at the counter and the second time had my own table. Amazing pastries , good coffee . Authentic and nicely decorated . The prices are expensive for those who wish to wish to sit at the tables.

This is a veritable institution in a great spot to see life in downtown Napoli. The location is great for people seeing. The extensive menu offers so many delicious options, although you will pay a little more for the tradition. Service was polite and professional, and the coffee drinks and sweets we tried were all excellent. Definitely a place to visit when in Napoli and exploring the historic center.

One of the best cafes in Naples! My experience was exceptional, the pastries were freshly made and so delicious, the staff are so kind. I’d go back again and again. The cafe is like a small palace, the chairs are beautiful…totally recommended!

There's historic places and then there's places like this. The building carries no 1 for the street it sits on. The architecture, the vide, the products, even the servers have historic outfits. A must visit place in Napoli. Do stay inside if you can, the views are stunning

Classic place to get an espresso or a treat! The interior is beautiful and the whole place smells like the baked goods. The staff are friendly and helpful. You pay for your things before then you give the staff your ticket. All the pastries look very good, the pistachio cannoli is amazing! A must try when visiting Naples!

Great desserts, excellent coffee, and good toast sandwich too. The interior is elegant and it is open from 9:30.

The best: the vintage antique deco of this coffee place. It is an historical coffee place and it is totally visible. From the waiters all dressed up to the deco and walls. The prices are twice as the average of napoli. They have a huge variety of types of coffees, mostly sweet ones with cream or syrups. Also the baba here is well done, they pour some more rum over it before they serve it so it is yummy and super alcoholic.

  • 5/5 Hyojae C. 8 months ago on Google

Some of the past pastries in all of Napoli, although being a super touristic area means it is constantly packed and the prices are quite high, it is a beautiful place though and the staff is friendly and quick!

Best cappuccino I’ve ever had (no sugar required) and a Baba Au Rum that absolutely melted in my mouth. The gal behind the counter doused it with rum! This place is not to be missed on your visit to Napoli! Super efficient and professionally staff as well! I appreciated their wonderful service. This place is a one if a kind gem for sure!

Really good coffee and desserts here. The wait staff was very nice and they also have a takeout option. The tables are a little squished together but overall I would definitely recommend. It is right beside the main area/square in Naples.

The location is awesome. The staff was really nice and the food was great. I may say that I've had the best dessert in Naples. Also, the coffee was really tasty. I recommend you to stay inside!

The cafe fredo was so refreshing, and the coffee was incredibly tasty! And let me tell you, the pastries there are out of this world! Plus, the place itself is absolutely stunning with its beautiful decor.

The beautiful and historical @gambrinus_napoli is iconic and a must visit in Napoli. I enjoyed my lemon gelato (as usual) and the cafe is very pretty and classy Italian!

  • 5/5 Kazumi D. 2 years ago on Google
Napoli is not for Starbuck worshippers. There are 11 Starbucks in entire Italy (according to google) and Napoli has only one. Italian's idea of coffee is different from other culture. However, Gambrinus has some sweet coffee and it may heal those broken hearted Starbuck people. I'm a snobbish coffee drinker so I did enjoy different coffee in Napoli. I hope you try their pasties. It was awesome! I'm glad I was staying 40 min walking distance from here and burned what I ate... I hope Side Note: Strange thing was that, if you want to sit they charge for it.

Historic location, quite busy with tourists, but some locals are present. The wait on a summer Saturday was around 10-15 minutes. The waiter although uninterested, was quite attentive. The dessert was high quality and delicious. Slightly over priced but it is expected given the location and the history. I would recommend for a quick coffee and pastry in between sight seeing.

  • 4/5 Saumya B. 9 months ago on Google
The oldest cafe in town. Definitely worth a visit. The interiors are gorgeous, the food looks stunning, you don't know how many pictures to take. The staff was the sweetest, very pleasant and welcoming and cracked jokes with us as well. We obviously had the delizia al limone, it was really tasty. But we wish it was as good as the one we had in Amalfi Coast. But do give this place a visit.

  • 5/5 Elena H. 10 months ago on Google
The café is stunningly beautiful and a real piece of art, which more than justifies the pricing. The service was not exceptional but adequate. I would suggest any tourist to go there and have their breakfast surrounded by history and art.

During honeymoon for 2weeks in Italy, my wife and I been to countless cafe and even in the hotels, airbnb, etc..espresso in Gambrinus was the best that you must go no matter what. We went there twice between a lunch in Napoli. So good! Thank you for the man who makes countless cafes in his entire life.

Nice decor, good location, good food but the service was not great with our orders being delivered to the wrong table multiple times, the place was overcrowded, the toilets were dirty and overcrowded, everything is overpriced. There are plenty of better places close by.

  • 4/5 F V. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful Caffee with lots of art inside. Good coffee and coffee specialties. If you want to drink one make sure to go to the bar (1,20€/2,50€) as it is very expensive sitting at the table (about 5€ per coffee). We had one squared piece of pizza which was 5€. At least we got some water and a tiny brownie bite with it.

Really cool place, great coffee and breakfast. Unfortunately the weakest point is service. Chaotic sometimes rude (observed, not towards me) and customer always second. Someone should keep an eye on it - of course if anyone cares as this place will have customers anyway I guess😃

  • 4/5 Diana Z. 2 years ago on Google
Nice location with history..where you can have breakfast or something sweet, traditionally. Service is a little bit slow because of the crowds..prices are medium to high.

  • 1/5 Jaroslav K. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful place with ok coffee (expensive though €4.50 for an espresso), but atmosphere was totally ruined by one of the most arrogant service I have ever encountered. I did not believe the rumors, but.. if you don’t mind paying almost 5x the regular price for a coffee, don’t need to hear “thank you” after you paid and any reply to your good “good bye”, if you don’t mind sour faces and having to ask for menu after 5 min of waiting and watching waiters chatting while standing next to your table, go ahead and enjoy. However, I need to experience at least an elementary bit of politeness when visiting such a fancy and expensive cafe. So in my case never again a to others; stay away :)

A nice way to start your trip on the coast side of Naples. It is indeed located in the main plaza. Location is very good and well connected. My friend and I have been here becasue it is often mentioned as one of the most beautiful cafes in Europe. So as we could image, it a very busy place. We didn't manage to sit in the table area, because we don't know how to 😅 everything is written in italien. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our afternoon at the bar. There is a good variety of desserts and the selection of drinks available. My friend had a giant cream puffs and I ordered a plate of mixed pastries. One of them was a lemon cake filled with custard, the cake part was overly dense and dry and the custard was just sugar. Then I didn't really like it. The rest were all very sweet, but delicious.
