ℹ️If you are not a big fan of museums and want to visit only 1-2 in Naples, then this is definitely the place to go. It gives a good overview of the city history. Very exciting to follow these narrow tunnels underground. Also, it was good to see the remains of amphitheater hidden under the buildings. This tour gave me a good understanding of how this city really is built like a "lasagne". *️⃣HINT: We arrived there 45 min before the English tour and the group was already full. Fortunately the lady in the ticket office hinted us that most people register for the tour online and more spots become usually available about 5 min before the tour since some of them will not show up. 💶HINT 2: you can buy the tickets with cash only!!!

We reserved tickets online and paid in-person. Important note: there are multiple starting locations and the one we were directed to on the website was not here but down closer to the coast so take that into account when making your journey over to your tour entrance. A one hour tour underground which ends near the starting point. There’s not much walking as the tour guides stop in notable rooms to talk for 10ish minutes each time but still a ton of fun. It’s also about 17 degrees Celsius down there (like a well air-conditioned room) which was refreshing.

This was an amazing experience to go under this famous city. Ancient quarries turned aqueducts turned wine cellars turned bomb shelters. So much history. Very informative and mind boggling. Bonus you also get to tour the ancient Roman Teatro ruins. There are a lot of stairs (130+)and a part of the tour takes you through very narrow and low passages. Not recommended if you are claustrophobic or have mobility problems. You can bypass the passages part but not the stairs.

Truly beautiful and highly recommended experience, to the point that once this one was over we rushed to do another tour of Underground Naples under another area of the city (each has "its" tour organized by various organisations), to say how much it had impressed us as an initiative! Our guide, I think his name was Mauro, was exhaustive, friendly and truly a wealth of culture, telling of myths and legends that merged with the history of a place dating back to the ancient Greeks and a decisive result in the survival of the population during the second war world. A place not suitable for those who suffer from claustrophobia or are large, given that you have to spend a bit like speleologists through ravines no wider than 50 cm. A tip: the online skip-the-line ticket costs 15 euros and gives priority entry... but on weekdays by queuing you still get in, albeit with a slight delay, but the ticket drops to 10 euros...!

I visited underground Naples last Sunday. Wonderful! The guide was very thorough, he explained everything to us! The route to get there is dark, we turned on the flashlights on our cell phones. The passages are narrow and low, not suitable for those suffering from claustrophobia. But believe me, it's worth it!

Incredible story and place to be, I would definitely recommend you come here. The tour guide in English was amazing, he put himself in the story and talked in a very captivating way, he seemed to have a feature in theatre in my opinion idk I’m talking about the blond finland guy. Please come here it’s amazing.

Definitely significantly better than your competition. There really is something to see here. At one point the tunnels are really narrow, but you can skip if you don't want to. The leader could sometimes speak louder. He was hard to understand, especially in the rooms with the water. Our group wasn't that big.

Serious COVID Regulations Violation The tour itself was really neat, perhaps I expected to see a bit more but that's just myself having unrealistic expectations. The best part for me was actually the end of the tour that I don't want to spoil for the uninitiated. Our tour guide for the day was Eva. She was fantastic--knowledgeable, energetic, passionate, informative, and kind. My wife (non-native C1/2 level speaker) struggled to understand her accent a bit, but I didn't think it was that strong. Would definitely recommend going with her if you can. MAJOR RED FLAG! The main issue I had was the blatant COVID precautions violations by the tour that followed us. Eva was VERY clear about how masks should be properly worn and why the regulations are in place (which, if you can't follow, then stay home). However, the 4 o'clock French female tour guide on August 29 must have missed the COVID training session. Most of her group was wearing their masks on their chins (hope they get tested!) and the female tour guide would REMOVE HER MASK every time she stopped to speak. When I motioned to her to move her mask up she had the audacity to shush me. Eva told us that the powers that be actively read these reviews. If that is true and no action is taken, I would encourage ALL potential patrons to skip this tour entirely as it is not worth the risk that you are putting yourself in if management doesn't care.

Its a great tour of 1.5 hours discovering the underground remains of an old roman theater and water tanks. There are some very narrow tunnels that they alert claustrophobic people before entering where they can wait outside and the group rejoins them later. Price in 10 euros and 8 for students. Tours are available in italian, english, spanish and french

It is spectacular. Of course it is. However, tour organization is bad. The groups are too big. It is hard to hear the guide - I would be OK if I did not go and not see this. Go see the catacombs instead. Way better!

Very good tour! We came earlier to buy tickets when it was not really needed, everyone who came 15min before the tour start was able to get inside on December 31st. English tour guide is great, the route through Aquaduct is pretty doable for anyone who doesn't have claustrophobic issues, narrow route is not for people who can't stand small closed spaces because it is very narrow, you have to walk sidewards. The only downside is that there were too many people, in the begining it was pretty hard to hear the guide and was lacking air in the first room where the tour started. Worth the visit, though 15€ is maybe too much for it. 2nd part with Roman amphitheatre is brilliant! Amazing Neapolitan history !!!

It is not hard to locate the entrance to the Naples Underground, but you do need to look around for it. I had a great time seeing the history below the city. Our tour guide asked if any Americans were in the group, and mentioned we might recognize the WWII Bomb suspended from a hole in the ceiling as one of the few duds, when we bombed the civilians hiding below the church. It was embarrassing, as we were the only Americans in the group, but what are you going to do?

Wonderful experience. I did not see it coming, quite challenging if you are claustrophobic but you can skip some parts. Bring a charged phone to go through some areas which are very dark. Appreciated the guide who was enthusiastic and well prepared!

This tour was amazing and worth the slight hassle to get tickets in advance. You’ll go deep down below and see cisterns, caverns, ancient Roman ruins, bomb shelter setup, and more. Not for the claustrophobic or those who can’t climb up and down lots of steps!

An eerie experience, but worthwhile visit to learn about the past. English guide was very informative and interesting. There are areas that are not good for the faint hearted, especially the very narrow entrance where you had to walk sideways just to get in, you need the light from your phone to follow the narrow path. It was worth every penny.

You enter this tour off a Naples side street and descend down a narrow passageway deep under the city. This passage was started in medieval times but not completed until WW2 due to the urgent need for bomb shelters. Thousands of Neapolitans fled to these underground shelters for weeks as the bombing of their city raged above. Impressive tour that gives you an experience of what those times were like. Great tour guide also. Definitely recommend.

Don't expect an in-depth visit to the underground of Naples. This is a mass tourism approach (even the numbers are such, with constant queues of tourists waiting to enter), in which a large part of the time is spent by the guide explaining what visitors should not do given the characteristics of the place (many do not behave properly). But the visit itself is limited to a couple of cisterns and passing through some narrow tunnels, which were not used by people, either originally or during WWII, but only for the passage of water, so that passing through them today does not in any way help to understand the past but perhaps serves to give some emotion to a boring visit with not too in-depth explanations. The visit is added to a glimpse of the Roman theater, where it is explained well why the same was absorbed by the hunger for living spaces so that very little is left to see today. In general, the visit of the Roman market under San Lorenzo Maggiore is much more interesting. Tip: you may avoid the queue booking your visit in advance.

Amazing tour!! Arriving at the center it was a little confusing - long line and no one giving info. But once we got in the guide was amazing and everything was clear. The tunnels were so fun! We bought through get your guide and got to skip the line, but maybe paid $1-2 more? Probably would have been ok to buy there. The tour also led outside and we got to see an amphitheater that is now someone’s house as well as a small museum. 10/10 would do again.

I was originally confused as to which tour company I should go with. After researching, I decided to just walk up to this one. There was a queue, but walked right up for the English tour (Mid February). Our guide was very informative and loud enough that we could all hear. The tour took about 1hr 20mins.

We went during a hot summer day and looked for something to help get us through the heat. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. The guide was very informative and even took us to another nearby area to view an ancient Roman theater. Well worth the 10E per person! Be sure not to bring anything too bulky, there is a very narrow passageway that you can go through (sideways and not mandatory, but it is the best part!) - it gave a sense of adventure!

Our English speaking guide, Eva, was very engaging, enthusiastic and informative. The experience in the subterranean tunnels is less scary and claustrophobic as we were warned it could be, definitely not extreme in any sense. Found quite fascinating the second part of the tour, visiting the relics of the ancient theatre currently within the existing homes of Neapolitans - a truly one of a kind condition that could only exist in a city such as Naples. Definitely recommend the tour for enriching your understanding of the city (or for simply saving yourself from the scorching temperatures, it’s pretty cool and humid down there).

This location is likely referring to the scam spot for Greek/Roman Market underground. The main one with the gorgeous pictures is *Underground Naples*. It's the one with thousands of reviews and official in the name. *Naples Underground* is across the street, only 25 minutes long, and a joke. Turns out it's owned by a failing church and so their scammy ways of trading on a better companies name can't be called out for the terrible behavior. Would give 0 stars if I could. The ask for tip at the end was hilarious.

A really interesting tour, amazing to see the ancient water system, doesn't sound interesting but it was. If your claustrophobic this tours not for you, you pass through very narrow tunnels, between the water cisterns, so narrow you have to turn sideways.

Amazing guided tour. Super interesting history behind the tunnels under the city, and how new buildings have been built right on top of ancient Roman buildings. Even integrated into them some places. A couple rather right passages down there, but those with mild claustrophobia will be okay. The guide takes good care of you. Had to come back a couple hours later for the English tour as we hadn't prebooked tickets.

Skip the line tickets are great. This tour is not good if you have claustrophobia. It is not like the catacombs in Rome where they bury people. This is all hand excavated thousands of years ago as cisterns. Tour is about an hour. Guide does not use a microphone so stay close. You should wear footwear that have a good grip as the stones steps are worn and slippery. The toilets are at the entrance are rough.

Great tour and very informative. The guide was very friendly and taught us things we never even knew about Naples. There is some steep steps at the end, but you can take your time if you struggle with steps. Remember to buy tickets in advance as they do sell out - you can buy at the entrance or via an app like Get Your Guide. The tickets are very good value for money!

It is a very unique experience that you see the history throughout the time. How on old times people use aquaducts and what were the other purposes using it. Although the group tour I attended was very crowded if you are in the back of group you may not hear the guide because of that. You are passing very narrow places beware that is not for claustrophobic persons as well as very overweight persons Also another minus thing was they do not accept cards so you must buy ticket with cash only.

An excellent tour that takes you through some of the underground tunnels that run under Napoli. Some of the passages are very narrow and dark, so you will need a torch, I used my phone. The activity is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The guide was enthusiastic and provided a lot of information. The tours leave at set times, so it is a good idea to check the website to save hanging around. There are toilets. After the tunnels you visit the small museum, where you can get a drink. Then, head through the streets to see a Roman underground theatre.

Very interesting tour, we did this on a very rainy day and lots of people had the same idea. There is a part of the tour where you go through very narrow tunnels and have to crab walk sideways, and use the torch on your phone. However, you can bypass this part if you are claustrophobic. (It was fun though!) The rest of the tour is wide open, big chambers so not an issue. It was about 1hr 45 mins in total.

Splendid tour which we highly recommend. English tour was 1800hrs & we walked in 30 mins before to buy ticket from counter; staff were really helpful. Brilliant narration by tour guide; we could imagine whole history unfolding before our eyes. Our 5 year old throughly enjoyed the narrow tunnels. The 1 hour tour wrapped up with a visit to Roman theatre ruins nearby.

Unfortunately not worth the wait or the price. We booked our tour through GetYourGuide. The place was hard to find. People with no ticket could simply rush past everyone else it seems. The tour itself is quite uneventful. The guide had quite a few interesting things to say when you were able to hear her but it was quite frustrating having been rushed from one place to another and having to listen to other guides giving the tour at the same time. Save yourself the money and time. Enjoy the pictures and go have fun above ground 👍🏼

The visit was very interesting and enlightening especially the second part exposing the recently found underground Roman ruins of two thousand years inside a normal family, just amazed by how ancient relics can be discovered by climbing down the stairs beneath a family's bed. The only things that I regret: 15 minutes late for the beginning of the visit, travel guide speaking English too fast (even though she's really nice) and the visit being quite in a rush, me not being able to stay longer to see details of the exhibitions.

Not worth it. It would take Max 20 min. to see it all, but our Guide had to wait for The other groups to move oway. I'd expected much more; sth. like City under the City, but it was just a few corridors and steps. Don't waste your time

Not recommended during Covid, big groups of 30+ with people breathing down your neck in tight spaces. And the guide sounded like she was reading a textbook with a heavy accent that not everyone could understand. Interesting place, but it turned into a tourist trap. And it's not self-guided.

Well-organized tour into the subterranean history of Naples. All of the underground spaces were once part of a Greek fresh water supply system consisting of an acquaduct and cistern holding tanks. The system was used until the 19th century, before conversion to other uses. Overall worthwhile tour touching on major points of Naples history; perhaps not recommended for those with claustrophobia.

The actual time underground is cool. I enjoyed walking in the musty rooms and seeing the carved out caverns. Walking through the extremely narrow hallways to rest the wells were also a highlight. The tour guide gave very basic statements that didn’t feel very helpful. Honestly the commentary was pretty pitiful. Then the exterior portions felt like a waste of time. I would have happily passed on those had I known what they would be.

We decided to do this as it was so hot outside we thought underground would be cooler. I'm so glad we did. It's a great tour of underground Naples, informative guide, interesting stories, lots to see. Our favourite part was using the fake candles to walk the small tunnels, that bit is definitely not for the claustrophobic, but can be sat out if needed. After the tunnels you walk down the road to an old theater and hear all about that. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

It was interesting - good facts and sights. Eva put a lot of energy and thought into our tour. We were at the back and often missed parts of the tour narration, thatd be our only gripe. Definitely worth a go, perhaps miss if you have claustrophobia.

Trapped underground for more than an hour listening to a very dull lecture by a grumpy man. The spaces were interesting but he actually prevented us from seeing some of them, preferring to keep us confined for long periods listening to him drone on. Yelled at people for getting restless and talking during the lecture.

The underground sites are breathtaking, it's therefore an even bigger shame that the guide wasn't at all knowledge and that the group of more that 30 people is waaay to big.

Suteranea Nápoli.... Nice if you are interested in the history of Naples underground.. If you expect some kind of speleo you wil be disappointed... Nice to have seen once but that's it... Unlucky we had a guide that walked so fast we lost some of our group members. They rejoined after they were brought by another guide. The start of the tour was very chaotic due to guides yelling in Italian to tourists that don't speak Italian...

Exiting to see the underground where they extracted and carved stones to use for buildings in the Greek era. It was an incredible feeling to walk through really tiny dark areas where we had to walk sideways because the path was so narrow to finally end up in a big room with a quite fantastic ancient water supply cistern. I wish the tour had shown even more of the underground tunnel network since its size is estimated to something like 450km.

  • 4/5 Vlad S. 1 year ago on Google
Good place to learn about the greek and roman engineering and the Naples beginnings as a city, with aqeducts and wells and interesting stories about little ghosts 👻😀. Bad thing is that, with the co.pany we've chosen it was cash only. Good things are that there are several places to see and the guide (we recommend taking a tour with a guide ) was very informative and shown us a bunch of places outside of the tunnels as well.

  • 4/5 Pat B. 1 year ago on Google
It's quite a long climb back up and some of the passages are very narrow and dark. (You may need your phone for extra light) The Tour Guides are very knowledgeable and entertaining and plenty of time is given at each stop to rest and take everything in. Allow for about 2hours including waiting time.

  • 4/5 Dennis B. 1 year ago on Google
It's a very interesting place. Unfortunately we made the mistake of not joining an English tour which is only every 90 minutes. If in the queue and the museum staff calls 'English' that means that the next English tour is about to start immediately and you should go to the entrance. Tickets are bought in cash 5€. There are no signs and you must join a tour. You will not be allowed to wander individually.

  • 5/5 Jim P. 1 year ago on Google
A really interesting look into the old underground areas of naples. There are many ways available to do this. This seem to be the best tour to us, price most reasonable. Day of tour purchase your ticket at the gate and they will assign you a time to enter. A great time to wander around the Spanish District there. Grab a slice. If you brought a flashlight to tour make sure you bring it with you, there are some very tight spaces there so if you have issues with that don't take second leg of the tour deeper under

  • 5/5 Arda U. 1 year ago on Google
Sena was a great tour guide. She had very good knowledge and was able to answer all of our questions perfectly. Her speech was clear as you could ask for and she was passionate about Napoli's history. The underground tour is certainly interesting. But I would suggest getting a ticket before hand on their website so you avoid the queues.

This was amazing! I highly recommend! Definitely some.tight spaces to walk through but to get inside a historical place as this is priceless and worth the bit of anxiety! This is a picture of a wine cellar that was used by nuns that sold their wine to the locals. Great piece of history and out guide was awesome! The offer tours in English(if they have someone available) Spanish (luckily I'm bilingual) and of course Italian. They also take you on your to where the Roman theatre was which was uncovered in an elderly woman's basement (video).

  • 5/5 Amie D. 1 year ago on Google
It was a really cool experience. One tunnel is very tight so not advisable for people with claustrophobia however you can sit this part out. Really friendly guide and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend a visit when in Naples! The tour takes 1.5 hours. After you do the underground section you come back to the top to do some other parts of the city. Mainly theatre type spaces. Learnt a lot.

  • 4/5 Alice T. 10 months ago on Google
Interesting place, visit as guided tour. You really need to book in advance, the queues are long. Pay attention, special circumstances: very narrow dark tunnels, stairway 120 steps up… but the old Roman water cisterns are impressive!

Had a great experience here, good tour guides. Very cheap quick little hour long tour of the Greek/Roman underground city. Very informative staff who take their time to answer questions. All up paid 11 euro for entry and guide.

Great trip and a must see in Naples, though be sure to choose the timing of a trip in a language you understand 😀. Fascinating to see how much life there was underground a d there was a bonus at the end when we went to see an old theatre, which I hadn't realised was in the tour. Definitey worth to book in advance as there were long lines when we went for the 11am (Italian) tour. English was at 12pm 😀

  • 3/5 Alison K. 9 months ago on Google
Entrance is very unorganized. They have a line on one side and the guides just tell people to come back 10 minutes before but then have you get in the same line anyway. As long as you show up and get in line, you will get in - tickets can be purchased up the steps. They will let the people in with tickets first then those left can purchase tickets in the next tour group. Tour was just ok though, the best part was walking through the tunnels and going into the basement of a house to see the Roman theater. Stay close to the guide to be able to hear/understand.

Amazing experience considering the history of this place. A must do in Naples. Tour guide in English available and definitely not for anyone with mobility issues. There are over 152 steps to climb and some very narrow parts. But it's an amazing place to experience.

We had a great time on our underground Naples tour! Our tour guide was fantastic and kept us engaged for around 1hr40, learning a lot about the history of Naples, and also escaping the heat! Definitely recommend for your trip to Naples.

  • 2/5 PDT 8 months ago on Google
The Naples underground was visually impressive and thinking about how old some of these caves are and for how many generations they have been added on to is mind boggling. However, booking the tour didn’t really feel worth it. The explanations we got were often hard to understand, not helped by the fact that everyone has to move in a line due to the tunnels being quite narrow in places, with the guide leading and lecturing up front. I felt hustled through this “experience” creating the most touristy experience of the entire stay. You should take the tour only if you insist to take pictures yourself, if not this is a part of Naples you can skip. Filming is not allowed.

Excellent short 50 minute English tour of an underground 2 story market from about 50BC I think. Great tour for myn9byearbols twins. They enjoyed seeing the market bakery , laundry, dye works, etc. Was just the right length of time, interesting, but not endless details. Great job.

  • 4/5 Erna T. 8 months ago on Google
First of all, the ‘jump-the-queue ticket’ did not help you jump the queue: we had to wait with all the other ‘last-minute’ visitors. After about 15 minutes delay, the fun finally started. We loved the tour, which lead us through very narrow passages, lit by our mobile phone torches, the kids lived this part. We saw Greek, Roman water systems and pools from the 17th century. We heard freaky stories about tunnel cleaners and house spirits, touching moments from WW2 and we even saw a flourishing underground garden (which was never watered). The tour ended in an ancient theatre, mostly covered by modern buildings. The stories were great, maybe a bit disconnected. We found out very little about the Greek and Roman part. Realias could be more and also dusted once in a while (dust might be part of the design, though). Surely a great experience if you are not claustrophobic a ghost whisperer.

Underground Naples is a brilliant idea to see the city from a different perspectiv. It's well organised trip with a tourguide. Tours operate with the offer of different languages. We purchased tickets vua Tiqets App and everything was clearly described. There is opportunity to purchase tickets at the venue, but not guaranteed the places are left, especially in the heat season. Our tour guide was professional with great touring experience. The tour itself is fun and interesting. One of the best parts is walking through a very narrow corridor, that is why you are not allowed to bring any bigger backpacks- through some parts you need to side slide-walk. Timewise- about 1.5h. Another great point in the summer time id that is nicely cool underground 😉. Staring and finnishing points are different but still within Centro Historico.
