***NOT FOREIGNER FRIENDLY*** I was polite as I could be with my limited Japanese and I didn't particularly stand out. After ordering, I heard one of the staff say "give this to that stupid foreigner" which caught me off guard. I pretended not to understand as they were giggling about it. It was very rude and uncalled for. I thought about confronting them but decided they weren't worth the effort. I had enough self respect to get up and leave. If you're a foreigner and are ok with the staff brazenly being rude behind your back, by all means, eat here.

This place is awesome! Great food at great prices. The atmosphere is intense, since it's right under the train tracks, it can get a bit shaky (which is fun). We made it a point to come back since the food was so good. Highly recommended if you like unagi and are in the area.

⌚We visited on a weekday at 6pm. We waited around 5 mins before entering. There was a longer line when we left at 7pm. 🍛We each ordered a double unagi rice bowl for ¥1,100/person, with 3 extra side dishes (miso soup, vegetables, and an unagi egg roll). The food was very hot, filling, and absolutely delicious! Their free hot tea was also very nice (I drank a lot, and thought about filling my water bottle with it aha). 🌳The seating is quite cramped within. We sat on the ground floor, which had 2x 4-person tables and around 5 seats along a bar table. The store layout is long and thin, so there is not a lot of space. Overall, a very nice restaurant with great food for a great price. Only potential issue is that it is quite small and popular, so you may want to visit during off-hours.

Despite the restaurant being a bit small and the long wait outside the restaurant for a table, my experience was exceptional once I tasted their Unadon and Umaki. The flavors were truly outstanding, leaving a memorable taste that I absolutely loved! I couldn't resist recommending it to everyone around me because of how much I enjoyed it. I do regret ordering just Unadon instead of Double Eel Bowl because the portion size of Unadon was quite small for me. Moreover, I couldn't make additional orders, and I was unsure if I could get water refills due to the busy waiter and our unnoticed corner seating... And the restaurant was filled with a strong barbecue smell, but it didn't bother me much.

Tucked beneath the railway and fairly small so not so much seating. However, going at 3 meant I didn’t have to wait in line. The eel was delicious and the sauce was just right. They had options for more rice if you wanted for free. English menu and credit card is also available. Worth trying eel without having to splurge.

Eel rice is good, chicken roll is delicious, egg roll also tasted good. Only thing is smoky all around inside, if you feel ok like us, then you will come back again for sure!

Like a lot of great places in Tokyo - queuing is the order of the day. But the Eel is delicious and worth every minute of queuing. This is a must do if you are in the area.

Best unagi I've ever had. This is a simple place with a really local and authentic atmosphere. Unrivalled value for money and pleasant vibrant neighbourhood. It is the perfect place to spend a night out with friends and family while enjoying comforting specialities. It may not be fancy but you won't be disappointed. Looking forward to going back there again !

We ordered the ¥1,000 unagi rice bowl and a few skewers. The unagi was excellent. Skewers are pretty good. Service was good. Servers can speak simple English.

Convenient, affordable unagi chain store outside of Ueno station. Service is fast if you’re in need of a quick meal, and one of the cheapest unagi places you can find in Tokyo. Wouldn’t recommend topping up for Set A, which is an additional 490 yen for a lacklustre unamaki and liver soup.

Worth Trying. An unfortunate case of extensive waiting that builds up into nothing. There was still a line in the middle of the day at 2:30pm on a weekday, and it seats roughly around 12-15 people. I'd recommend the 1580yen set or 1800 as it's the most worth it in terms of eel and add egg separately, as the egg is their specialty dish. Egg - Was okay. Worth Trying but wouldn't get it again. Eel - While grilled and smoked, aroma does not really come through. Eel sauce is sweet and savory and free flowing from the table, but doesn't bring as much joy or umami to the whole dish. It was definitely solid, but it wasn't mindblowing in the slightest. Very thin layer of rice, about equal thickness to the Eel. Balanced. As all things should be. Cash Please give @trebzheng a follow for more :O

Unatoto Unagi in Tokyo is a culinary gem. Their perfectly grilled eel and cozy atmosphere create an unbeatable dining experience. The friendly staff and traditional setting add to the charm. If you're an eel lover, this is a must-visit spot. Highly recommended for an authentic taste of Japan.

Good for the price, reasonably fast service even during lunch time. Specialty Unagi shops definitely taste better but you’re gonna pay a lot more.

This restaurant gave me very ugly impression. The staff forgot to order one dish and one member had to start eat when the other members finished their meal. The staff wasn't really sorry for that even though she told 'she is sorry' through her lip. Normal food! Unkind service! They know the best way to attract people. Even though the 2nd place is almost vacant but they made people wait for 30 minutes in winter. VERY CLEVER!!! NORMAL FOOD! UNKIND SERVICE! VERY COMMERCIAL TACTIC

Might not be the top of the line of eel dish, but it taste very delicious at this price and the location's ease of access. The taste-price is very good, reasonable price. The egg-roll with eel inside is new and taste amazing!

At this price level and simple.environment, of course i did not expect any superior unagi expereince, but it is already very good comparing to the other normal unagi places. Having lunch while trains are passing above your head was also quite an experience. I really like this kind of simple local place.

Waited about 20mins but it's a wait worth waiting. Cheap & delicious Unagi Bento. Cheapest is 560 Yen to 1650 Yen. Yop ups of Rice is free.

It was not planned. I was on my way back to the hotel just checking the stalls at Ameya-Yokocho when I saw a line, always a good thing. Then I discussed they were selling grilled eel, a favorite. The staff were efficient and friendly, and the eel was soft and tasty

We were looking for a nice place to eat unagi don and we ended up at Unatoto. It started to rain when we were standing in line, but luckily they rolled out their sunshade. The restaurant has a limited amounts of seats, but the atmosphere was very vibrant. The unagi is served with steaming hot rice and a special sauce. It was really good; nicely caramelized, super soft (melts in your mouth) and flavorful. The eel is grilled on charcoal which adds tons of flavor of course and the sides also become a bit crispy. Another thing we shouldn't forget is the "magic sauce". Mixing the sauce with the rice is just the best!
