My parents and I had dinner here. We came a bit late as it was 30 mins to the last order but the staffs were really nice by still letting us to order the all-you-can-eat set. One of the staffs speaks good English. The food was amazing! It is also quite spacious, and comes with a warm-nice interiors

It's a nice cosy restaurant. They have table and counter seats. Tempura taste good, the reason for a three stars is because the chef cooking is done at the center counter. Customers are able to watched how the food are being prepared and it looked messy and mass produced. But even though the food still tasty. Good for travellers.

Came with full excitement but my heart went cold as I waited. The food was nice. However, the service was not as good as seen from the reviews. Came around 5:30pm and took the queue number as shown at the entrance. To our dismay, we noticed the waiter came and randomly called the queue number not following the queue number. Later, one family went in without queue number but the waitress allowed them to take the seats ignoring those who were waiting outside. One of the food we ordered was missed out. They only noticed until we asked for it after waiting it for more than 30 minutes. So overall, food was nice. Environment was good. Strategic location near to station. But think twice if you are coming at peak hour.

The ambiance is really good, it’s always fully seat everytime we passed by, and we ordered the shrimp, meat, tuna, egg & salmon, all tempura style. I saw the review from google, but it’s not as good as the reviews said, for me is just so so. Especially for the meat, it’s so hardly to chew it. Because of crowded, the service is rushy and intense. They also menu for unlimited rice & miso.

I passed by this restaurant on my way to my hostel and the smell of frying tempura attracted me. This restaurant has a self-service concept for taking the tempura dipping sauce and miso soup. I found the miso soup to be very salty. I got the anago tempura don (¥1480). I was surprised by the size of the anago, it was quite large. There were also various other vegetable tempura like sweet potato and fishcake tempura in my bowl. What I found novel was the Mt Fuji fishcake tempura (¥150), a triangular shaped tempura, which had a slight chewy texture. I would recommend this.

The best tempura I had ever had in my life. I recommend the Fuji Tempura set and also eggplant and potato tempura. Worth the waiting. Also met a very friendly and polite waiter that recommended so many good menu. He stands out from every waiter because he looks more Chinese than Japanese. 5 star in every category. Will come again next time I visit Kawaguchiko Lake.

Their chicken is sooo good! I love that it’s crunchy and juicy. It takes a little long time to serve but worth the wait! This resto is a walking distance from Kawaguchiko station.

Very overrated. The tempura is not that great. Just like any other tempura shop. The wait time is very slow and staff's attitude is not warm (tell us to come inside but did not say which table to sit at). There is a sign saying that they would swap eggs with fish cake in the set tempuras, but they did not change the photo on the menu/ illustration figures of the shop. They put an empty dish in front of you and then put tempura on your dish, so one of the staff spilled fried crumbs in my water. Will not come again.

This place had some great tempura! I got the steak tempura and extra tempura white fish and they were great! I would love to eat here again. I’ve never seen steak tempura anywhere and it was a great surprise! Everyone going to the Kawaguchiko area needs to try this place!

Tried this place since it is near the ryokan I stayed and it's good review. Long queue when I arrived for lunch at 12pm. Have to wait for about 20min. It has a queue ticketing system which made it easier though. Must say that the tempura is above average, especially it's ebi (prawn) tempura. It's big and fresh. But the large Mt Fuji tendon rice we ordered with 6 ebi had so much rice that it could feed 4 persons or more. There is just 2 of us 😅. The vege tempura is not too bad. The chicken karage is good though. Flavourful, juicy and moist.

Very nice restaurant, you can watch the chef fry tempura, the crispy batter is so thin, the fried food is large and delicious. The eel rice is super delicious, the eel is so thick,Recommended 👍🏻

We ordered a Vegetable Tempura + Yoshida no udon (¥1040) Shrimp Tendon with Miso Soup (¥1580) and Anago Tendon with Miso Soup (¥1480). Tempura was okay but it was a bit soggy. kinda disappointed since it was freshly fried. Udon was so thick, it was still hard and chewy (in a bad way) near the end of the meal. A lot of rice under the tempura for the two rice sets. Miso soup was extremely salty and it was still salty even after we diluted it with a full cup of water… Price was also a bit steep for the amount of tempura given.

Nice small tempura restaurant, a bit of wait outside the restaurant. Food wise, not too bad, the lady server pick and place the tempura nicely on your plate. @live2njoy

We enjoyed our tempura dish here. The batter is airy and crunchy perfection in every bite. We went there at about 3.30pm, there was already a short que. We waited for only about 10mins tho. The waiter provided us a very great service, accommodating to our diet requirement. Will definetely recommend this place. Tips for Muslims: OK list- All veggie & seafood tempura (cooked in plant based oil), rice, shoyu sauce Not halal (mirin) - miso, tempura sauce, udon & soba, meat

This place was right around the corner from our hotel and I was really curious to try tempura in Japan because I hadn’t yet. We didn’t have to wait but that’s probably because it had been raining right before we came and it was a weekday around 11:30. I really liked that this place allowed you to order individual tempura items that you could add to the order. You ordered from the iPad at the table and it was quite straightforward. We settled on the hot soba soup with three tempura vegetables and added a tempura pumpkin and egg. We also added a fried half chicken. I thought the soba noodle soup was absolutely delicious. The noodles were a lovely texture and the broth was pretty sweet, but had a lot of flavor that I really enjoyed. The fried chicken was juicy and had so much meat, and the skin was an excellent flavor that didn’t taste too oily or heavy. The tempura was just ok. I’m no tempura expert but I did find it pretty bland. They have salt, chili paste and dipping sauce for you so I suppose you can season it the way you like it. I think I would have preferred a bit more flavor. Over to the side/in the corner of the restaurant is the dipping sauce that you can serve yourself. They also have miso soup there so if you order miso soup then you need to get it yourself. We didn’t realize that but in the end it was fine - they were happy to take it off of our bill. The experience was a fun one and it was great to try the tempura. Although the tempura items weren’t my favorite it was nice to be able to pick and choose what to have and the other items were absolutely delicious.

It take a little long to wait for the food but it worth every second of waiting. Fugu(blow fish) is surprisingly good. The shrimp tempura is very crunchy and nice. Also recommended to order the red grape juice. It was sweet and unique

Highly-raved place just a 5min walk away from the train station and the famous Lawson's. Waiting time was about an hour for a table of 4 at around 10.30am. Ordered the Shrimp Tempura Set, Chicken Tempura Set, the Vegetable Tempura Set, and the Half Fried Chicken. Each set comes with a choice of rice and miso soup, udon, or soba. The tempuras were lightly battered and so crispy - we especially loved the chicken tempura and shrimp tempura. The accompanying vege tempuras also complemented the meats nicely. Everything tasted better with the spices and flavoured salt found on the table - the shichimi spice was so good I bought a packet to bring back! Also, don't sleep on the fried chicken, it was soooo juicy and tender and flavourful, I couldn't stop eating. Overall, a satisfying meal worth the wait. Do go early to grab a queue number! You can stroll over to take pics at the Lawson's while waiting for your turn.

The queue (as with all the other good restaurants in Japan) was extremely long for dinner so we ended up coming 30mins before the opening time the next day, and even then there was already a queue forming. The fuji tempura don was not great as there was way too much rice and I don’t recommend it. However, the tempura ala carte was absolutely amazing and I would go there again just for it.

Not too far from bus station. Tempura is very good, also Unagi. But waiting time is about 30 minutes at lunch time. You have to take a queue ticket and wait for staff to call your number. Recommends!

Saw the rating and reviews decided to give it a try. 1.First impression was bad because the Q machine wasn’t working well, tourist were all confused and causing traffic infront of the shop and no staff could attend to us. 2. Saw the food menu on the window and got excited to try their dishes. But ended up with a disappointment after waiting for 40mins. Literally expectation vs reality. 3. Told the waiter the tempura steak was overcooked and the tempura skin were falling apart before we even started eating, all he did was smile and say sorry and walk away. 4. The service was so bad, we ordered 5 drinks but none came even after we had our meal and tried to call for the staff but nobody attended to us after a while.. in the end the staff came and only served us 2 drinks.. another 3 drinks missing. So we had to chase them and they end up only served us 2 drinks. 1 drink is still missing 🥲. 5. Food was just average, the only thing worth ordering is the prawn. Which I’ve tasted better ones in other “non tempura restaurants” the veggie were soggy, the steak is such a let down, the puffer fish ntg special.” Conclusion: they are very under staff and commercialized. This is my first time experiencing bad service in Japan. This is such a let down.

Great and reasonable tempura. Good place to eat if you’re waiting for a train and have time to spare. Get a queue number from the front, and they have an online queue system. Ours was 85 mins but we were seated in 40. Queue times can be long, but wait around the restaurant when it’s closer to your turn as they will skip numbers if they aren’t present. Good tempura fried to order and ingredients are fresh.

This tempura restaurant is located just at the intersection. It has crowded guest. I have came back 3 times, and finally get my chance to try. So highly suggested to COME EARLIER before lunch or dinner time, so you have more possibility to be able to get in. Even come earlier, I still have to wait for about 30 minutes in que before my turn. The result? I can said, it's worthy. The tempura is good with its sauce. I ordered the shrimp tempura package and add on enoki mushroom and egg. The drinking water is refill-able, as for the white rice and the miso soup but the last two are not for free on the first time.

Food was fresh, waiting time was short considering dinner time. Not too bad, but if you guys are in a rush, do consider other places. Spent around 4,800yen for a two pax meal.

If you love tempura, and think you know what good tempura taste like, you are wrong if you haven’t been here. Tempura is lightly battered, endless miso soup and rice, and affordable sake. The staff is kind and clearly know what they are doing in the kitchen. One of my favorite meals I have had in Japan. The chef was kind enough to take a picture with us. A signature staple of what delicious tempura should taste like👌🏻

Great little place to grab some tempura. They make it right in front of you so you can uncover all the secrets to great Japanese tempura (though somehow I still don't know). Parking is free across the street and the front door is one of those cool slide-and-duck doors. Prices aren't bad at all.

  • 5/5 Balazs L. 2 years ago on Google
Wonderful tempura restaurant and they even have a vegetable only set which they cook in a separate oil batch from the one they cook the meat, fish and egg in. Was great to sit at the counter and watch the chef prepare each dish. They serve the tempura at your plate so that too was such a fun touch. Fast, delicious and can’t wait to visit again.

One of the don't miss restaurant here in Kawaguchiko actually this is the best tempura restaurant that we had of our trip. Fresh and tasty but try to avoid peak time or you might have to wait for ur seat for almost 1hr. Oct 2019

Very good tempura, including chicken tempura, fish tempura, vegetable tempura. The restaurant also have udon, rice, fried potatoes. Very friendly service - the staff accepted to open the restaurant for us when we arrived on closing time. Quick service and affordable prices. You can also buy souvenirs from the restaurant such as special dressings for salads, spice, etc.

The Tempura here is good to try once but not as good as in Tokyo area. We feel the food is over priced and more like a tourist trap or cater to tourists. You can get cheaper and better quality in Tokyo Station area. Overall most food places we tried in this area have been just ok or so so and over priced. So just have low expectations if you are a 1st time vistor like us and expect to pay more for good/decent quality food compared to Tokyo.

The prawn tempura was definitely the star! They were perfectly cooked and the different salts and spices make things more interesting. Long wait as turnovers are slow and only 2 staff on the floor.

  • 4/5 Daniel O. 1 year ago on Google
Though the queue system was a little confusing, the tempura was delicious! Especially liked the fish tempura’s - they were yummy. I want to also commend the young male server who was fantastic and put a lot of effort into his service!

Fuji Tempura Idaten is a fantastic restaurant in Fujikawaguchiko that serves delicious tempura dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and traditional Japanese decor make it a great spot for couples and families. The menu features a wide variety of tempura dishes, including seafood and vegetables, and the chefs are experts in the art of tempura. Prices may be slightly higher, but the quality and taste of the food make it worth every penny. Don't miss out on this must-visit spot for a memorable dining experience in Japan! One potential downside to dining at Fuji Tempura Idaten is the possibility of a long queue, particularly during peak hours or seasons. Due to its popularity among both locals and tourists, the restaurant can get quite busy and you may have to wait for a while before being seated. However, many customers have noted that the wait is well worth it for the delicious food and exceptional service. If you're looking to avoid a long wait, it may be worth visiting during off-peak hours or making a reservation in advance.

A nice stop for dinner before heading back to Tokyo from Kawaguchi station. The tempura was crispy and I liked that they gave a variety of different tempura in one set. The line might be a bit long since it’s one of the more affordable places around the station.

I arrived that night. You can immediately visit the store. Excellent tempura that lives up to its reputation, not greasy, recommended to avoid during lunch time.

I arrived at the restaurant around 12:30 and have around 20+ queue before me. It take around 1.5 - 2 hours but it worth to wait. Tempura is really good, not oily. They also provide you miso soup and water.
