I had the fried chicken on my first visit - and the world famous chili on my second. I was expecting it to be different, and was surprised at the texture - seemed like there wasn't much meat, mostly beans. But, hey - if they've been making it for a hundred years, and EVERYONE else on here likes it, it's probably just me. Next time I think I'll try it as part of a dish, like with tamales...this order was the large bowl of plain chili. I've heard that the catfish is REALLY good, too! The folks that work there are super nice - definitely will be back.

Great little spot in downtown Nashville! The BLT was delicious. It had a good amount of bacon.

A ‘joint’ for sure - which usually means amazing food. Super nice people, cool old vibe, less than memorable food. Chili tasted like #10 can of hormel. Tamale tasted like food service canned tamale. Omelet was just an omelet. Prices were decent for Nashville. Honestly, we would not go back. Sorry they would need to kick it up for a better review.

Amazing establishment, great history, been around since 1907, I eat breakfast here when I’m in Nashville around a dozen times a year. Quality food at very reasonable prices, I started coming here in 2018 on a tip from a construction worker (a guy who knows hearty breakfast). My family enjoy the friendly and clean atmosphere. Bob took over an I met him and he’s a hard worker and has great cooks in the back, they know what they’re doing. Heaven on a paper plate (omelet main go to, French toast, grits, bacon all the way I like it). Hit up Varallo’s any chance you get.

A very tasty local restaurant that features both breakfast and lunch. Anything you order is cooked fresh right there, so it may be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it.

True southern breakfast. Fresh and tasty yet reasonably priced. The biscuits are to die for. The owner is so thoughtful. Loved the Christian music playing in the background. It’s these owner operated restaurants that make places like Nashville wonderful!

Good reason that place has been around for so long Great Service and quality food. Got to love a three way Chili bowl that includes a tamale. Don't miss the opportunity to add a grilled cheese

One of the oldest eateries in Nashville. We liked the food. It's a good inexpensive option for the area, just a place to grab a quick bite. It was clean and the staff very friendly

Nice little Diner with an absolutely incredible history! The staff were charming and prompt, the omelette I ordered was cooked right and tasty. Not too much salt or anything. By the way, don't pass on the gravy, it's the best I've had since the last homemade batch I've ate. Will be coming back! :)

We feel so lucky to have found this place! Inexpensive but delicious food in Nashville? Unheard of! Staff was delightful! We will definitely be back.

We stopped by for lunch. My Little Princess had the spaghetti combo. I had a chili dog, cheese burger, and chilli with tamale. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. Counter service with food delivered, and service was excellent. The chili dog is a fork and knife eat as opposed to hand held, so make sure to get a fork and knife before you sit down. The burger would be better with thin slices onions and tomato. My Little Princess would have been happier if the meatballs were more like home made meatballs. Regardless, it's a landmark, of this menu offerings are of your liking, give it a try.

I only wish I had found this place earlier.... It is not fancy, it is an old school diner with fabulous food! Foam plates, plastic utensils, and damn.... I so want to come back and try their chili. I will be back. Great history, great food! Nice staff.... This breakfast bowl was to die for...literally... So good.....

Really good southern breakfast for the price. We ate there two days in a row and it was consistent. Just the basics, no frou frou sauces or avocado here. Lots of locals there so it must be good.

Love the fact that it has history and it's displayed on every wall. Did not like the fact that I was the only person of color (besides the cook) in the entire place, including every picture. Watched the owner speak pleasantly and even carry on conversations with other and deliver their food, but it took so long to even take my other that the cook asked what I was getting from the kitchen. Simple bacon, egg, and cheese wrap ($7). I went and had a seat. When my number was called, I had to go get my food from the owner that still hasn't spoken to me except to collect my money and walked away before finishing the transaction without a word. I'm hoping that what I experienced was a bad day/bad moment for him but I got a feeling this was not unconscious bias. Oh, and the food was fine. Nothing really bad or spectacular for a bec wrap.

I ate here for lunch today and order the chili cheese fries. I was surprised how good the chili was and how unique it is. I thought it would be a traditional beef chili but I dont think there was any meat in it? Regardless, it still was amazingly good. The prices were also good. I cant wait to come back and get a bowl!

This Restaurant is Legendary in Downtown Nashville. I highly recommend this place for Breakfast. I just ordered the Breakfast Bowl. It has Bacon 🥓 Eggs 🥚 Hashbrown, biscuits and Gravy all in one Bowl. The Gentleman that waited on me was very kind. Very Clean and Decent place for Breakfast and Lunch. Thank you for serving Nashville for years. We appreciate you. 🙏🏼❤

These guys really hustle to take care of their customers and the food is great. Ate a breakfast bowl one day and chili pie the next. Both were good and you can't beat the price. Stole a bite of the fried bologna sandwich my wife ordered, which was equally amazing. Just visiting from Florida, but will come back next time we are in town!!

Quick and friendly service. The food was great. Also chili for breakfast…I’m in heaven.

It was a pretty expensive breakfast that was just okay. Two pieces of toast with Heinz strawberry jam, two pieces of bacon, two eggs scrambled, about a half cup of boxed hash browns with a small minute maid bottle of orange juice was almost $12. Seems pricey even for the area and the food was a step below what you would get at a Waffle House. Service was friendly enough and the business was very clean. The hashbrowns were burned a little and you could tell they were the log cabin type of hash browns. Everything else on the plate was great. The bacon was crisp enough, the toast was buttered and cut into triangles, the eggs were great. It just seemed to be pricey. When I calculate out the price of the food (wholesale) in my head their margins must be insane.

i have been eating at Varallo's for a few months now since moving to Nashville. First of all Bob, the new owner is absolutely fantastic, he always treats every customer as if he's known you all your life! As for the food - WOW! every plate (or bowl) i get is hot and fresh. As well as handed to you with a smile. i have tried several things on the menu from Breakfast and lunch and it always exceeds my expectations. Every time i get something new to try i add a new favorite to my list! Bob and his team are absolutely a delight to see anytime of the day!

I'm from the south so having some greens with breakfast was amazing. Kinda picky about breakfast food but they did it up right. The sausage had a good flavor which seems to be hard to find sometimes. Ready to go back for the chili.... Staff was super nice as well!
