Trying out restaurant in Nashville, came across this famous steak house. IT WAS NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT! We really enjoyed all the entrées we ordered. Steak maui is a signature. The meat was well marinated, filet mignon was smoky and flavorful! The steak I would recommend medium or below, its the best way to taste the meat quality which is extraordinary! And the service!!!! Over and beyond! If you ever stop by Nashville or simply looking for a good steak, THIS would be your best option! Bon a petite!

Always perfect. Best ribs EVER! We often split them for two people because they are so large and filling. Our teenager often orders Jack’s Platter with enough food (chicken tenders, baked potato and fries) to feed and army. The veggie burger is brilliant with a burst of delicious flavors. The hot chicken sandwich is spicy and flavorful. Call ahead for a reservation. This place is a local favorite.

I'm basing my 4-star review off the food and not the service. My daughters took me here for Father's Day to treat me to a nice dinner. We made reservations online prior to going to be sure we could get in on what we knew would be a busy night. Upon arrival, we did still have to wait about 20 minutes before having a table available even though we did make reservations. As a restaurant, one thing you don't want to have to do is instruct your servers to tell your patrons as you seat them "I just wanted to let you know that we are very busy tonight, we are short wait and kitchen staff so you can expect a long wait for your meal." I heard more than one wait staff telling the same story to others that were being seated. Unfortunately, they were right. First it took our waitress quite a while to even take our order (I would say at least 15 min). Then once we ordered we probably waited another 30 minutes before our food came out. Sad part is that at the same time I placed a single meal "to go" and it came out to our table before our dine-in food did. From start to finish, we were probably at the restaurant close to two hours. That aside, the food as usual was delicious. I had the Steak Maui (Ribeye), one of my daughters had the salmon and the other had the NY Strip. I had the smashed potatoes as my side. Though the steak was delicious, I had ordered mine medium and it came out more well done than medium. This place is a "special occasion place" as the prices are pretty steep. My steak meal alone was $40. Between three meals and tip, my daughters forked out around $150 without alcoholic beverages. At those prices I would expect much prompter service. Grant it, we were warned and I know with post COVID that restaurants are having a tough time finding anybody who wants to work. Because it is J. Alexander's, I would visit again because the food is always good though I hope that on my next visit they are fully staffed and and wait times are much shorter.

Food comes in large portions and pleases everyone. Chicken fingers were a little cool, but the sauces were delicious. Check out that pork chop! And the French Dip has a generous ratio of meat to bread. Thin fries FTW. Only problem was price. About $150 for these and 1 beer.

J Alexander's is a good restaurant with attentive servers and bartenders. I often meet business associates there for informal meetings. Prime rib is very good as is the chicken. It is very close to my house and has lots of parking making it an easy place to meet. I agree that I wish they would take phone orders for takeout. Overall, almost like a neighborhood place without trekking downtown.

It's been a long while since I was last here. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed when we arrived at 11:30...it quickly changed to waiting for seating and medium loud by the time we left. My steak was amazing. At least one in my party had a mistake on their order, but the server quickly own the error and got it resolved even after forgetting she was in the middle of fixing the error. Good food and good company. Happy Administrative Assistant Day...see you next year.

We really enjoyed this J. Alexander's location. Our waiter was attentive, patient, and professional. I ordered the dish of the day, Char with broccoli and a baked potato on the side. I LOVED the flavor. If you are a smoked salmon fan you will love what they did with this dish. The salmon was moist, flaky flavorful perfection.😋 I chose a white wine which paired well. My companion had the cheeseburger with fries and sweet tea, loved it. The offerings are at a fair price. Enjoy yourselves 😉

We went to celebrate a birthday over lunch and had a wonderful meal followed by warm, moist, yummy carrot cake and french pressed coffee. We had a great time! My husband had the meatloaf special of the day; he loved it! I had the prime rib sandwich; it was perfectly cooked and delicious! We shared the carrot cake as the pieces are quite large, plus we had the spinach queso and chips while wauting for our food, so we were quite stuffed. Our waitress was attentive and prompt; she kept our coffee hot and flowing without us having to even ask. We really enjoy our special occasions here; the environment was peaceful without alot of background noises like a school cafeteria... as many restaurants seem to have a problem with when busy.

Everything we ate was good we went for anniversary/birthday. We had the filet, chicken and chocolate cake. It was all good but the cake is worth getting for sure

My husband and I went here tonight for our anniversary. Had a wonderful experience. Hamid was our server and he did not make us feel rushed, was very nice and checked on us very well. This was our first time here and def will be back. Also, the chocolate cake with ice cream is to DIE FOR! I would eat it all day if I could. Food was awesome. Service was just as awesome. I would definitely recommend.

I went here for my 30th birthday because I love J Alexander's food and wanted to celebrate with my closest friends. I wanted them to experience the good food and service that I have always received. We had a party of 10 and the hostess was not accommodating to us at all. They told my husband on the phone that we would be good to all sit near each other if not sit together. When we got to the restaurant they stated that we had to split up 6 and 4 which was fine but they put my other half of the party on the other side of the restaurant. Not only were they very rude about it but they said if we didn't agree to do that we could just leave. The most upsetting part is that they had 3-4 tables around us that were 4 tops and they didn't get seated the entire time we were there. Not only did they not want to deal with our party of 10 but they showed us very poor service. We will no longer be back at this location. I will go to the West End location or Cool Springs when we go out again.

My boyfriend & I went for dinner tonight. He ordered the prime rib sandwich. The manager came over to let us know that it was still cooking & would be an additional 20 minutes. He then asked us if we wanted a complimentary appetizer while we waited so we ordered the bread. A couple of minutes later he came back with an envelope for a free entree on our next visit. We were content with the bread but so impressed by the stellar customer service! The food was wonderful as well - highly recommend!

Mac & Cheese= One of the stars of the show. Don’t order to-go, I guess… I’ve been coming here a majority of my life. So much is changing in the world. Hopefully not Jay’s too!! This has always a place you could come to for quality & menu consistency. Again, hoping it was just a bad experience.

Went for lunch with a friend and was impressed at Cordell's service to our table. Cordell was friendly, helpful, and rolled with the punches as we were dining with a child. The cypress salad can't be beat anywhere else. The mac n' cheese is five star. I prefer it with honey mustard. I'll be going back again soon.

The family and I had great food and service. Jeff was our server and he took care of our needs. He wrote our orders down and our meals arrived, perfectly. This location is extremely busy so you may want to make a reservation. We will be back!

My wife and I stopped into J. Alexander's for an early dinner to beat the rush on a Friday night having never been there before. We both got the roasted pork chop and it was amazing. It was really tender and flavorful. The broccoli was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were delicious as well. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The staff was professional and friendly. They have a good variety of dishes and it's s a great place to eat. The only negative is that it was a little dark at the table so it's hard to see in the picture.

Our group of 6 were all extremely pleased with our meals & experience! The restaurant was packed, but every plate was well done. Food was quite flavorful and no skimpy portions here. Staff were hustling! A must try when you’re looking for a better than average chain restaurant meal.

Sometimes restaurants lose credit for being inhumane. I applied for a dish washing job here that posted on indeed which held OPEN interviews. When I walked in no one acknowledged me until I said " hello I'm here for the open interviews" then the manager NEVER came out simply sent messages between me and the host. As I sat there for 30+ minutes I happened to check my email and I had received an email that said I was OVER QUALIFIED for a dish washing position that paid $20/hr. I mean at least talk to me before you make that decision? What should my criteria had been? I mean obviously I needed the job. Behind the scenes I used my last $10 to pay for gas to get there!!! & According to the site you needed help! I guess just not my help. The person you didn't even meet in person. I felt judged and discriminated against BC I was not the same skin tone as 95% of the staff. Literally saw one person of color on the floor. A little diversity would be appreciated J. Alexander and shame on the management who posted a position wasted my time and didn't even respect me nor my time enough to come out and tell me I wasn't even going to be interviewed let alone considered. Talk about equal employment opportunity? I just sat there until I read the email. You'd think with the shortage on finding people to work I would have at least been interviewed. I left there with no job, no respect, and a sense of fear employers don't ever think of how this person tried their best to get it and not even be dignified with an honest interview which online stated were open daily. Didn't even get to meet them. Over qualified to wash dishes. Thanks a Lot

This is a review of the food only. Service was great, love the decor, etc. I hadn’t been to J Alexanders in some years but remember very good and Interesting food. This time I was very disappointed. The menu has pretty limited choices now. Even so, my expectations for what they did have were high based on previous experiences. I ordered the Cypress salad, $18, on the high end for a salad. Friend ordered the French Dip sandwich for $21, still on the high end for a sandwich. Both dishes were very underwhelming. Salad was on the smaller end, ingredients were ordinary and the cheese they used seemed to be a processed, shredded Colby, tasteless. It would have been a $10.95 salad anywhere else. The sandwich was just ok. Again very ordinary and definitely not for $21. In the past one could expect this restaurant to kick everything up a notch but not this time.

    J. Alexander's is a perfect, comfy spot for late Sunday afternoon lunching. Our foursome enjoyed the Brasserie Chicken, Low Country Chicken Platter, Grilled Chicken Salad, and Old-fashioned Cheeseburger. All were excellent, though the broccoli side funneled on the garlic to an excess. Our server was fantastic in patiently working with our allergy-challenged 4-year old. Restrained brunch tunes made for a relaxed mood!

3 of my friends and I had a reservation Saturday Evening. It was a birthday dinner. We were seated promptly by a very professional and friendly hostess. She even gave my friend a birthday card signed by some of the staff. I thought we were all in for a fun night of good food and great service. I thought wrong. The server took our drink order, but we didn't get them for about 15 minutes. All we had was water. Our food order was taken and when it was delivered, it was like playing musical plates. The server and helper didn't seem to know who got what. 3 of our entrees were correct. But one ordered a salad with blue cheese dressing and a rotisserie chicken. He received a salad with a few pieces of chicken on it. No dressing. Finally, 2 of us asked for another drink which never came. We flagged down the manager and told her we did not receive our drinks and did not want them at that point. Then the server came over later and asked if we were sure we didn't want the drinks. We just wanted to leave that bad experience. The food and drinks are a bit pricey which is fine if the service given is high quality. It wasn't. The dining room was half empty which makes sense given the service we received.

This place has some GREAT food. The ambiance is nice, low lighting and good seating. Prices are a little on the higher side, but I don't complain when I'm served good food. The meat was cooked perfectly, exactly as I ordered and it was delicious. My party also sampled each of the offered desserts and they were each phenomenal. Fresh and made from scratch. Worth every single calorie! The service was also quick and efficient and our server was delightful. I didn't give it the "perfect" score only because there was nothing offered to the table like a bread basket or anything. It seemed odd and for the pricing we did expect something.

Steak is good, but the Mac and cheese is amazing. Good, quick service and friendly staff. This is the “Steak N fries” but I subbed the fries for the Mac and cheese at no extra charge!

My husband and I came here for our first date in two years. It was worth it! Rachel was our server and she was lovely. We ordered the queso as an appetizer and ate it with the salsa dumped into the queso. SO good. I ordered the prime rib med rare with mashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered a trout special with coleslaw and rice. For dessert, we ordered a key lime pie and a chocolate cake slice. Did not disappoint. Beware that the portions are ginormous! We should have split a dessert. The price is about half of what you would spend at another similar restaurant with the same quality. Highly recommend.

Food is fabulous...every time. Service was a bit slow tonight but not a deal breaker. They were very busy. Server Steve was attentive and charming. We love the chicken tender combo. The prime rib is delicious and the "rare" really is! Not so other places. However, the Mac & cheese is what drives me to return.

Wonderful Experience, and Service. Food was great. What really made the evening was how we were treated by the Bar Manager Ms. Felicia. She was professional, polite, and funny. I will be back again to visit.

When I want to make a good impression and with even better food J. Alexander's is my place. Today's soup lunch special was Chicken Tortilla. Delicious flavor with lots of chicken and just the right amount of seasoning. Also enjoyed their Grilled Chicken salad. Always well prepared and delicious...one of my favs! Service was polite, friendly and efficient. Pleasant private setting.
