Today
at
lunch
time
in
Vashi,
I
heard
a
voice,
my
heart
said
Go
forth
and
binge
upon
the
3C’s;
Carbs,
Calories
and
Cholesterol
and
then
I
heard
another
voice
it
was
my
Jeans
which
were
bursting
at
their
seams
telling
me
“For
God’s
sake,
eat
some
Salad”.
I
casually
looked
down;
I
could
not
spot
the
ground
beneath
my
feet.
Then
I
looked
up
and
spotted
this
place;
The
Salad
Bar
and
Walnut
Café.
Jokes
apart,
Salad
was
once
upon
a
time
was
delegated
to
a
corner
of
the
plate
and
consumed
in
the
quantity
of
a
condiment.
But
those
were
days
when
quality
of
food
was
good,
environment
was
good
and
people
maintained
an
overall
good
health.
With
changing
times,
living
has
changed
and
so
have
food
habits.
Junk
or
mostly
unhealthy
food
is
the
order
of
the
day.
In
this
scenario
places
like
Salad
Bar
are
a
welcome
and
a
required
change
in
the
out
of
home
eating
landscape.
I
was
pretty
surprised
to
a
dedicated
menu
card
only
for
Salads
and
giving
equal
prominence
to
Vegetarian
and
Non-Vegetarian
variants.
This
balance
was
maintained
in
the
main
menu
as
well
&
good
news
for
veggies
like
me.
It’s
a
road
facing
property
on
the
first
level
of
the
building.
It
has
been
purposefully
barricaded
by
a
see-through
glass
wall.
It
allows
a
lot
of
natural
light
to
illuminate
the
entire
café
and
also
the
view
around
especially
when
it
rains.
The
furniture
is
very
basic;
wooden
table
&
chairs
but
with
a
Walnut
finish
hence
the
name
Walnut
Café
[I’m
just
guessing
this
part].
There
a
couple
of
sofas,
one
the
entrance
and
other
at
the
far
end.
Some
catchy
English
numbers
were
being
played
in
the
background
though
not
very
loud
and
FOX
TV
was
showing
a
food-travel
show;
all
in
all,
a
very
relaxing
environment.
I
asked
for
suggestions
and
was
told
to
order
the
following:
Grilled
Exotic
Vegetable
Sandwich:
It
was
served
in
a
white
square
plate
with
4
triangular
pieces
laid
diagonally
across
the
centre,
fries
and
salad
on
either
side
and
an
in-house
dip
at
the
end
of
the
sandwich
pieces.
The
sandwich
was
grilled
to
perfection,
giving
the
bread
the
right
measure
of
crunch
and
softness.
The
veggies
included
zucchini,
carrots,
tomatoes,
spinach.
I
could
get
a
hint
of
mushroom
as
well
but
it
didn’t
show
up
in
the
ingredients.
It
was
served
with
fries,
which
were
devoid
of
any
oily
residue
but
yet
crispy.
The
in-house
dip
was
a
superb
combination
of
mustard
and
mayonnaise
which
had
a
sweet,
sour
and
pungent
play
of
flavours.
The
salad
was
slivers
of
carrots,
beetroot
and
spinach
drizzled
with
a
light
sugary
syrup
flavoured
with
a
hint
of
onion.
RECOMMENDED!
Pasta
Creamy
Tomato:
I
didn’t
want
to
have
the
regular
Arrabiatta,
Alfredo
or
Pesto
flavours
&
hence
was
suggested
this
one.
I
honestly
thought
it
would
be
regular
Pasta
in
combination
of
white
&
red
sauce
but
the
first
spoonful
and
I
was
surprised.
The
pasta
was
cooked
Al-Dente
and
the
sauce
was
thick,
creamy
and
rightly
spiced.
The
initial
flavours
were
mild
but
as
I
got
to
the
lower
layers,
the
spiciness
came
to
the
fore,
coupled
with
the
bits
of
garlic
which
added
the
pungency
factor.
It
was
served
with
2
slices
of
garlic
bread
which
had
a
buttery
after
taste
and
bits
of
garlic
which
had
charred
during
the
toasting
process.
RECOMMENDED!
I
was
attended
to
by
Shiva
very
courteously
and
attentively.
I
asked
him
what
to
order
and
he
gave
me
a
detailed
description
of
the
ingredients
and
suggested
the
order.
It’s
nice
to
know
that
the
staff
is
well
aware
about
the
ingredients
that
go
into
a
particular
dish.
Going
solo
to
restaurants;
as
I
do
sometimes,
has
its
own
flip
side,
you
can’t
order
a
lot
and
try
to
have
variety
on
your
plate.
The
review
thereby
becomes
restricted
to
maybe
2
or
at
the
max
3
items
of
varieties.
I
could
not
try
their
speciality;
The
Salads
for
this
reason.
I
will
be
visiting
soon
for
the
other
items
on
the
menu.
