Something really cool and unexpected happened yesterday. If you've been through Needles, CA, you know there isn't much there. However, we have always been drawn to this old building. Yesterday, we decided to check it out. We were perfectly content just exploring the outside. Before we left, we headed across the street to check out the museum. As we looked at all the artifacts, a lovely woman said, "you want to go inside? I know who has the keys?" Her husband took us over and allowed us to explore inside. He was a well of information on the Needles El Garces, which was an old Harvey house. Sadly, it has been gutted but you can still see some of the past poking through. They are working to try to find a way to restore it and hope it can breathe a little life back into Needles Tourism. The history behind the building is amazing! We recommend, not only heading to checkout the building, but also going across the street to the museum and asking for a tour. They are more than happy to share a bit of history with you. They regularly rotate the artifacts, so it is like a new experience everytime you go.

A waste of a beautiful space. After many years that it took to build/rebuild, and now it sits there all empty again. Amtrak passengers can't even enter to wait for the train. They need to figure out a way to let only passengers in maybe scanning our Amtrak tickets, or some other electronic way to let us in to wait for the train. I'm willing to pay a little extra to be let in, because it's very cold, or hot, depending on the season of the year and there are no bathroom facilities outside.

Known also as a Harvey House this magnificent building's exterior has been restored. It does have a room that is rented out for meetings. In its glory days from 1908 until the mid 30s, it has 62 hotel rooms and the Harvey Girls served travelers on train trips. There were no dining cars on trains then. Balconies provided the perfect place for guests to enjoy drinks and cigars.

One of my favorites of the famed "Harvey House" hotels that once served rail passengers. Built in 1908 and designed to look like a Greek temple. The Needles Regional Museum across the street can arrange a tour of the interior.

We just pass at night, we took a detour from our road trip just to take a few pictures, very nice and calm place

It's a bizarre place. We took a friend there to catch the Amtrak. We gathered info from people walking around otherwise there is nobody in the building to help at all. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.
