Ok taste, but better than most other Indian restaurants. Arguably the best self acclaimed Indian restaurant in Nelson Bay. 65$ for daal and palak paneer was too much on public holiday. Palak paneer didn't taste like palak paneer. Apparently they don't serve naan and have tandoori roti, which was a big and tasty surprise. Daal was too thick, which only meant it was not made fresh, but tasted nice and spicy as ordered. It's recommended to eat here atleast once definitely.

Top quality Indian food . The best I have had in NSW so far . Excellent cooking. I left the restaurant so satisfied with my dinner . I was on holiday here and I am so upset I won't get to eat this again until I return for another getaway here in Port Stephens / Nelson Bay . Excellent kind customer service as well . I HIGHLY RECOMMEND dining here . You can smell the amazing aromas from the kitchen 50metres away or even further. Thank you for an amazing dinner .

We got the banquet for 2 - good value. Butter chicken was alright - a bit watery. Lamb was nice - moist. Mixed vegetables curry had broccoli in it.. Overall the curries were the let down. Samosa and tandoori in entree was really delicious. Rice - loved the cumin through it. Naan was fresh and tasty. Dessert was perfection.

We had butter chicken with rice , Bombay beef with rice both served with papadams and raita & lamb cutlets Food was tasty specially the lamb cutlets. Good quantity with an affordable price . Didn't like the atmosphere though 😕

Tucked away and moderately priced. Lots of vegetarian options well presented. Lovely delicate flavour. Ask for chilli if you like it hot. The sweet spiced lemon drink and mango Lassi were a highlight.

After being in the bay for 9 years tonight I finally tried 'The only place'. Everything was absolutely delicious. We cannot wait to order again. Delivery was swift, we ordered samosas, cheese naan, rogan josh and vindaloo and it was all 10/10.

The food was really tasty. I loved the black lentils curry, very nutritious, we had with fish curry & 4 other dishes for just the two of us, to much food…!.😳 Such a great variety off food. The staff was lovely and friendly too. Highly recommend them.

Takes too long for food to get to the table.

Worst service and food. For a total of 5 dishes with naans took more than one hour to get the food. From the various listed biryanis, then only had chicken. So ordered that. It had a big piece of chicken which looked rotten, so didn't touch it. All dishes tasted bad. Stay clear off it.

Once most of the way through our curry, I discovered a clump of hair in my food. Matted around a vegetable. This is absolutely disgusting, especially in the current climate where restaurants are supposed to increase their levels of hygiene. We called up to strongly complain, and we were offered a replacement curry - but by this point I was very put off my food. We were ultimately given a refund for the one curry, rather than the whole order which I think is unacceptable.

The Food and Ambiance was really good. Would definetly recommend and visit again.

Easy 5 star in terms of food quality and service. The service was so quick and food tatsed amazing. Chicken Tikka masala was really good, we have had this food for like 100s of time but here it was done differently (in a good way). The quantity of curries was quite generous 😋 while portion of naan was small though. Do note, you may not get Biryani there as they might run out of it as it's so popular but trust other food as well 😉

The best Indian place in the Bay! Cannot recommend this place enough. Everything on the menu is top tier, the staff are great and very pleasant and prices are super competitive. Love it.

I've tried naan breads in the US, Canada, and here in Australia. And this has the best cheese naan I've ever had. I love the butter chicken too. Price is good for the value, but the amenities are outdated.

The food was absolutely awful. Had the entrees, tasted bitter and over cooked. Had butter chicken for main and rice, chicken was that spicy I couldn't even swallow a piece, and the rice was gluggy. Overall, a horrible meal, would not recommend.

Very hearty and tasty Indian food! Was perfect for the wet day! Service was fast and they were able to customise it to our needs! Pakoras, Spinach and cheese naan and butter chicken was yummy!

Really lovely food. We ordered Paneer Palak, Bombay Beef and Malai Kofta, and it was all delicious - especially the Malai Kofta. Great service and atmosphere.

The food here is amazing. We dined in on Tuesday night and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant which is a great shame as this place deserves to be crowded every night. The service is excellent and staff are really friendly and helpful. We had Samosas for two, Madras Chicken, Prawn Tikka Masala and Puppadums.. Each dish was full of flavour and the chicken perfectly cooked and tender. The prawn Tikka Masala was excellent with the right amount of spice. Samosas were perfect. If you are looking for great Indian food, then do not go past The Only Place Indian Restaurant.

Ordered Aloo gobhi and Daal Tadka , quick and efficient delivery. also, they are very flexible in customizing the food the way you want- we asked our food for extra hot and we got it. Loved the food .No dramas. Would go there again and highly recommend to all Indian food lovers.

They dont know how to respect their customers and their staff. They entertained other customers but didnt let us dine in even after we arrived with the booking 1 hr prior to the closing time. We said we are in a motel renting for 2 days we have no plates and got familys with kids. Ive never been treated like this. Ive even reported them to Accc the officer will be reporting them later this week.

We had a lovely lunch on Father's Day. We had butter chicken and vegetable curry. Both were very nice. I should add that the lunch menu is not offered on the weekend however the sign outside suggested otherwise.

We specifically go to this restaurant every time we drive up from Sydney. We've yet to find a place back home that is even close to their taste and quality of food. Staff are friendly too and service is good - not waiting long for food.

We go here at least once a month. The food is always delicious and served with a smile. If you're planning on going or ordering during public/school holidays expect it to take a little longer than usual... it's the bay.

Authentic taste, a little slow in service, smaller portions. Hidden gem, went in with little expectations but was surprised by the good taste. Located conveniently near the city center.

Best Indian in NSW

The food is exceptional. Ambience is not that great. There is very little cell phone coverage and no wifi in the restaurant. We ordered nan butter chicken, daal, mix vegetables and all of the dishes were very good in taste. One of the best Indian food in NSW.

Ambience isn't great, and sometimes food preparation can take time but as far as taste goes, this is one of the best Indian food I have had.

I would have given 1 star more for their very takeaway type of food but their service n people serving were not welcoming to our gathering of 10 and wanted to shut the shop n run away ASAP .. yes it was 9.50pm yesterday when we ordered one more naan, but come one guys you did not have to look that sad n disinterested

One of the Worst food we ever had on a take away order.they should change the name of tandoori chicken to black chicken, was fully burned.Naan were burned as well.Doesn't even deserve a single star.

The food was ok. Not Indian authentic but just ok. Service was fast. One of the dish we ordered was Malai kofta. Never ever had onion tomato paste based kofta curry. Bit over priced too but I can understand as this is a tourist spot.

I was there on Saturday and ordered Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Biryani for takeaway. They took around half an hour to prepare the food, so I thought it would be more freshly prepared and tasty. But the chicken used in Tandoori chicken was not fresh one, tastes like the frozen and biryani was not like the actual biryani, looks like the Basic pulav with 2 thigh pieces of chicken.

The best Indian I've had. We were staying at accommodation close by the restaurant. I called to place my order. I had great service in taking my order. I was told 40mins I'll get my delivery. 20 mins later they called me to tell me it was on the way. I met the delivery man downstairs at reception what a lovely and pleasant gentleman. And the food was fantastic. Next time I'm here in Nelson Bay I won't hesitate to order again
