Really nice hotel in a good location right on the beach. Although, not in the centre of Nerja (approx 10 minute walk to the Balcon) there were plenty of bars & restaurants nearby. The service in the hotel is very good with some wonderful staff & the drinks prices were very reasonable. The room we booked was a part sea view room, but on arrival we were given another room on floor -1. The room had a view of the garden area & was very private/quiet, which was really good. It had no view of the sea, but was a large room with a double bed & a sofa bed. it has a huge terrace, which thankfully was sheltered from the sun. The room was one floor below reception & the buffet restaurant, and two floors above the pool area, so actually was very well placed & you could manage very well without having to use the lifts. That said, the lifts were very good & you rarely had to queue. If coming to Nerja I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a nice hotel in a good location, accessible to multiple beaches, although the main beach is around a 25 minute walk. The bedroom and other areas of the hotel such as lobby and dining area were finished to a high standard and kept clean, the gym was very poor which you would expect to be slightly better in a 4*, this hotel is catered more towards the older generation which is probably why it hasn’t been updated. The main let down was the pool area, the vast majority of sun beds round the pool were covered by pergolas, each one covered 8 sun loungers and although the roof was retractable people had them closed all day so not very good for people wanting to sunbathe, there were beds which didn’t have the pergolas covering them but they weren’t in a good location for the pool and you had to get there first thing in a morning to get them and some people were even running for them, the beds were also packed closely together so it felt slightly crammed. Staff were very friendly and food was ok, it would have got a higher score if the pool area was more thought out and certain amenities were updated.

Beautiful hotel in a great location on the beach. Very happy with room on 3rd floor. Reception staff and waiters very efficient, helpful and polite, despite being very busy. Loved the good quality food - plenty of choices too

I have traveled quite extensively for work and have been in lovely hotels but without doubt this is one of the best. The hotel- Adult only…totally renovated some twelve months ago to a very high standard where quality came before cost. Located right on the beach and wonderful views of the Mediterranean. Rooms are spacious and in good order. Public areas are top drawer regarding lay out and quality/comfort. The restaurant is large and comfortable and to date (we are still here) the food is delicious. Entertainment is really good and we don’t usually bother but the hotel has top acts. The pool area is large with one pool and numerous sun loungers. Car parking available on site but unsure of charges if any. Finally the staff- there friendliness is unrivalled as is there desire to help. Very professional fun loving and well dressed. This speaks volumes for management, a happy staff are a good staff which managers obviously appreciate and have trained there people to perfection. Cons- We found the bedrooms rather stuffy in the morning as the A/C doesn’t go below 24C but not uncomfortably so. Respectively Suggested- Wall sockets with USB charging points How this hotel isn’t classified as a 5 star hotel surprises me

I have just returned from a 10 day stay Rui Monica. Excellent hotel, great location. From the moment we arrived at reception to the day we were leaving, I can honestly say the staff are absolutely brilliant. Nothing was a problem. Always greeted with a smile at breakfast and evening dinner. Some negative past reviews about the sunbeds, but its the same in any hotel in my view, so I wouldn't be worried about it. Great selection of food and caters for all tastes. We will definitely return, this is a gem of a hotel. Thanks for a great stay.

A good 4* hotel set on the promenade. Rooms spacious, service from all the staff 5*. Food excellent at breakfast and dinner. Lots of quiet areas to relax. Plenty of sun loungers by the pool and on terreces, & bar excellent with outside seating as well. Will return. Recommended.

A great hotel in a wonderfully quiet beachside location. The Riu Monica is right on the beach and boardwalk. The hotel features buffet meals for breakfast and dinner included in the price ( check their site for details). And the buffet is fantastic. Diverse and very tasty. Each night there is live entertainment in the lounge. Walking on the beach to the east takes you too the Balcon de Europa with its views of the beaches and turquoise water. The hotel, at least in winter, is well visited by seniors from the UK , Germany, Holland and other places. Makes for a lively and diverse place to meet new friends.

Hotels like these offer the same features. However, the difference is in the staff, the managers, and the people that hire them and keep them. Can't say enough on how well we were treated! What a way to celebrate our anniversay and my wife's birthday. Hats off to everyone.

Our forth visit to hotel Monica, stayed in some stunning hotels in 40 years of travelling. The hotel Monica is one of the best, fantastic staff wonderful food and spotless in all areas. Great position on the beach and handy for all the joys of Nerja. Thank you to all the hard working staff at the Hotel Monica. You not be disappointed.👍😊

Lovely clean Hotel, staff are brilliant, food is very good, two very minor gripes is the sunbeds around the pool are past their best and the towels in the room are well used and thin, apart from that excellent. Will definitely come back

First stay at this hotel last week and was so impressed on arrival greeted with a glass of prosecco @ informed of procedures @ details on paper to fast track us to checking in as we had a late arrival. The hotel staff give a first class service @ I would definitely not hesitate to return again. ❤️

second time at this hotel lovely food some eggs in the morning a little bit undercooked, great location and lovely pool. nice entertainment bar and drinks very reasonable for hotel prices, room was at the back with mainly roof views and not much sea view but i suppose luck of the drawer but still nice clean room but one little thing the only full length mirror faces the patio doors where you get a lot of glare mabe put a mirror at the side of the door where the glare would be cut out, dont like paying for safe but all said and done we will return and would recomend.

This has been our 5th visit to this hotel over the past 12 years. Excellent 4 star hotel. Great location right on the sea front and about 10 minute walk to the Balcon de Europa but bars nearby if you don't/can't walk any distance. From our room we could hear the sea and watch the sun setting in the evening. All the staff are friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, plenty of choice if you are worried about repetition. All buffet choice food clearly marked up showing what contains gluten. Staff were brilliant in the dining room. On a downside, entertainment in the hotel was not so good but this doesn't bother us as we always go out in the evenings. We will definitely be returning.

Fantastic hotel which we have visited two times now and each one has been fantastic. You are directly greeted in the most professional way I have ever experienced. The hotel looks super beautiful as soon as you step in until the moment you leave. The rooms are good size and very well cleaned. The buffe is one of the reasons we choose to come back, absolutely 10/10 with all the food you could possibly want and changes daily. The pool area is large with lots and lots of sunbeds and a bar close by the pool. Ease of access to the sea with a maybe 20m walk from the pool. The staff is the absolute best thing however, they are all extremely proffesionall and caring. It also feels like they all like their job and to be there. The hotel also has a massage facility and a gym. The only somewhat of a con I can think of is that the gym is a little bit "old school", could use higher weights on the dumbbells and some new machines. Truly a very good hotel. Only reason I do not rate it a 5/5 is because it's reserved for hotels with indoor fountains and gold all around ;)

Fantastic hotel, adults only. We have stayed here a few times, and have never been disappointed. The rooms are a good size, beautifully clean and most have a great view, either towards town and sea or mountains and sea. There's always a great choice of food, which should please most people. It's near a bus stop and lots of small bars, and is just a short walk from the centre of town.

Very clean and modern entrance / dining area and bar area. Pool area clean and well kept. Rooms dated although functional with towels and bedding cleaned / changed daily if required. We went half board breakfast has pretty much every option you could want, and evening meal was equally well provided with lots of choice. Prices for extras such as drinks throughout the stay are very reasonable. The staff are exceptional and can’t be more helpful.

This hotel is just amazing. We were so well looked after from the moment we arrived with a superb ground floor room with easy access to the restaurant, pool and beach. We would so love to go back next year!!!

Doesn't get any better than this. Right on the beach, easy access to the sea or the restaurants and bars. Hotel is clean and very well managed, the staff are so polite and helpful. This was a return visit for us and not dissapointed. Never found a perfect Hotel, but this comes close. The sea food restaurant next door is not to be missed. Hotel food and facilities are excellent. Easy walk to town, Burriana beach and Tuesday Market.

Best Hotel I’ve ever stayed in, great reception staff welcomed us with a big smile and a glass of Prosecco . Had a lovely big room with large bathroom with huge walk in shower. The Food was spot on and plenty of choice, all fresh and tasty. The hotel was kept immaculately clean, the entertainment was good. Can not fault the place. Well done Rui Monica. We can’t wait to come Back in Sept 😁

Probably one of the best hotels in Nerja. Direct access to the beach and a large pool and gardens/patios. Meals are good although served as a buffet and a bit repetitive. I would recommend using the al la cart restaurant downstairs at least once. Rooms have sea views and a fridge with tea/coffee. Lovely mountain views from the front of the hotel Staff are excellent and very helpful. Seemed to be mostly older British guests with a mix of other nationalities. Car hire across the road but you have to phone them.

My wife and I stayed here in February 2023 for a few days and whilst my wife particularly enjoyed the hotel, my feelings were less enthusiastic. When I stay at a Mediterranean hotel by the sea, I choose it for close proximity and easy access to the sea. The hotel website advertises that the hotel is very close to the sea, with easy access across a public walkway. Unfortunately, during our stay, access to the sea was anything but easy - there are significant public works and access to the sea is gained by either walking through a public restaurant or making your way some way along the promenade. This was not mentioned anywhere on the hotel website! Concealing such a vitally important piece of information by failing to amend your website is inexcusable! My daily swims in the sea were ruined by the difficulty of getting from the hotel to the sea, yet I only found out upon arriving. The works were also noisy and sitting in the sun provided a view of a large digger. This information should be put on the hotel website, but is conspicuously absent. If one discounts the hotel’s concealment of the building site, the rest of the facilities are pretty good. The quality and variety of the food at the buffet were excellent and changed daily. There is also the option of the a-la-carte Spanish restaurant but I’d give this a miss as they simply serve food that is taken straight from the buffet! I tend to drink a lot of water with meals so habitually bring a bottle of water with me to dinner. Despite ordering wine and beer at the buffet, we were told that we couldn’t bring water into dinner with us and that we had to purchase their water which just came across as a shameless money-grab.

Top class hotel, rooms large and comfortable with great views from the higher floors. Staff are all friendly and hardworking and everywhere is very clean. Lovely pool area with lots of sunbeds and pleasant music. Food for breakfast and evening meals is superb with plenty of choice. The acts seen so far on an evening have been very entertaining. We have been to the Monica a few times and will hopefully be back in the future.

Absolutely fabulous hotel in a great location. The staff are excellent, the hotel is immaculate and we'll looked after by the team. They are so thoughtful left a bottle of champagne in our room for my birthday . I would highly recommend this adults only hotel to anyone looking to stay in Nerja... Truly fantastic.

Nerja is such a beautiful place, with great restaurants and night life. This hotel is on the edge of Nerja but within walking distance to the bars and shops. Also opposite are a few bars for food and drink. Its a nice hotel, rooms, pool etc. Buffet restaurant available and al a carte restaurant if booked. But its lacking in atmosphere, no vibe, music etc. Think it was around the pool but quiet. I don't like it loud but it was very quiet, even older generations remarked on how quiet it was.

Very clean hotel, staff work very hard on this , pool area good , there are beds always in the pool area , but the front beds go (very) early, you can see the sun worshiping people burning there skin 7 30 am till late 🥸 music really nothing for us , bar area ok , drinks tad overpriced, bars in the area cheaper and better choices ( for us) Food ok , alway managed to feed ourselves, room for improvement, the staff ( all of them) brilliant. Rooms ok , Outside the hotel, Not good for walking if you have any disabilities, 30 meters one way 100 meters otherway then you will be uncomfortable trying to get about ( we did ) steep paths , steps , and big walls where it’s should be a walkway??? But it was a pleasant 10 days , No we would never go back . Hopefully putting a pic up of one walkway

Just visited for coffee. Did not stay. Found it very sterile. Reception is quiet and unwelcoming. It is in an awesome location but jeez folks, lighten up, its like a mortuary. Poolside packed, but utter silence. Pool bar packed but in silence!!!! Why is this?

The good: cleanliness, staff was very nice and professional, the food options were great, the location was perfect. The not so good: parking situation in Nerja in general, but also in the hotel (waiting list, we got called first at the end of our stay), very small and crowded beach. The bad: people reserving the best sunbeds with their towels and not showing up at all, whereas other people can't find a sunbed at all. People go at 7:30, put their towels on the sunbeds and go. There is absolutely no signs stating that reserving is not allowed, not to mention any form of control or removing the towels for people that are not using them. Most of the beach hotels I have been to in Europe and even in Spain have some kind of control in this matter.

  • 3/5 Martin & Larraine G. 1 year ago on Google
Staff excellent. Rooms large. Hotel overall very clean Absolutely no atmosphere anywhere at all. The lounge, reception area and pool area all deadly quiet no music at all. There was a dash every morning for the best beds at the pool. The beds could lie empty for hours with just a towel. This was not policed by staff lots of people very annoyed about it The food was good but the dining room was like a works canteen. No atmosphere at all and tables crammed together. The spanish restaurant had the same 3 main courses for the 14 days we were there. We are coffee drinkers and it was the worst coffee we have ever had in a hotel. Even out of the machine it had the same stewed stale taste. The room towels were very small and poor quality. Would not recommend this hotel
