Wow. Just wow. This was such a wonderful experience. When we got to the Cafe, it was not busy and we were immediately seated by friendly staff. We chose to sit outside and it was like walking into grandma's backyard in the absolute best way possible. There were so many outdoor games like chess, corn hole and giant beer pong. All the food came out so fast but was also incredibly delicious. Our server was so fun and had some great suggestions. I already can't wait to come back again!

My wife and I visited Old River City Cafe while on vacation. We actually ate here twice, I had the smoked Turkey sweet potato and a salad on my first visit. Which was delicious. The second visit I had their chicken tenders gravy and fried okra, again great. We sat out in the back by the water garden under the gazebo with fans. Nice spot on these hot summer days. A very popular spot with the locals, I believe it may have been a salon at one point in its history.

Went to eat dinner here there chicken fried steak was on point . Was surprise of how well service went . Will be going back to try there breakfast. Totally recommend you to eat here !

My son and I happened upon the Cafe on a trip to pick up some furniture. I ordered the small hicken fried steak with jalapeño corn casserole and a baked potato. My son had the sliced brisket sandwich with Mac n cheese and we were served warm yeast rolls. We then topped it off with a slice of malted chocolate pie.. The food over all was excellent. The baked potato was huge, I ordered the small CFS and I am glad I did it was a good portion. We found zero fault with the food. I want to touch on service though. In these days and times we all know that service has suffered. Seems that everyone is looking for help. I just want to commend the waitress that took care of us. This young lady provided the best customer service that I have has in forever. Even to the point of asking if we would like a complimentary cup of tea to go. We live a good 30 miles away, but will definitely be back. We just kept commenting on how good everything was and how my daughters would enjoy the food as well. Hats off to the cook, waitress, and staff..We need one of these in Kyle, if you ever look to expand.

It was ok. Had the all you can eat catfish. A bit flavorless but still not bad. Wouldn't let me switch sides which is silly after paying 15 bucks for the meal. I could go to a buffet for less and switch all the sides i want. Very nice server and refills were quick. I probably won't be back. Too many better restaurants around.

This might just be our new "go to" place. Our food was delicious and we were pleased with the quantity and quality of the food. Our server, Holly, was quit pleasant and informative. She made us feel at home. We were there on a busy Sunday, still were seated right away and bing, Holly was right there. Quick with our drinks and surprisingly fast with our order. What was supposed to be hot was hot, what was supposed to be cold was cold. We all had the chicken fried steak. My wife and I had the breakfast version and our son had the small lunch version. Side note, The small lunch version of the CFS, looks to be the same size as our breakfast version of the CFS. Many different choices as your sides. Too many to list here, but we both chose the cheesy breakfast hash browns, my wife with toast and green beans. I had fruit with biscuits and gravy. Our son with green beans and mashed potatoes. We topped it off with peach cobbler a la mode. It all was good.Man O man, what else could we ask for? Oh yes, live entertainment and pictures in the water garden out back! We had a fun filled lunch/brunch! Thanks!

Highly recommend. Great home cooking and very good service. This place gets busy for a reason - a lot of good food. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Everything on the menu is good but the Eggs Benedict, French Toast with Fruit and Sunday Sampler are great starts to the day. The Chicken Fried Steak and Grilled burger are tasty and focused on quality over quantity (something to take note of). The Smokin Salad or BLAT (bacon-lettuce-avocado-tomato) sandwich are terrific also. All sides are classic and great. They have a kids menu that includes PB&J. Look for the green and white sign off FM 725 south east of New Braunfels. This is a casual place but get there early and don't hit the parking lot cat.

UPDATE: This location burned down a few months ago. I am sad our favorite local eatery is gone. They are catering events and planning to rebuild and reopen, but it is going to be a while. Previous Review: The beer-battered catfish is wonderful. And on Saturdays, they have a corn meal catfish special. The place has great service and lots of good food. Texas toothpicks are fried jalapeños and onions and the spinach artichoke dip is my favorite. I do not recommend the Mac N Cheese. But everything else I have tried is delicious. My server is ALWAYS kind and it’s a really cute little place. Yes, stop here and try it. We always leave satisfied. Highly recommend!

This is a great place to visit!! Nicole's service was superb and the food was home cooked and awesome! They have a vegetarian plate with your choice of four veggies. They are pet friendly and we sat on their patio and we were just fine, even though the temperature for the day was over 100, the wind was blowing and we really enjoyed it! If we lived in town, this would be our hangout! Thank you!

I had been calling several times since Tuesday for three days to order lunch togo and I couldn’t get through. I was puzzled because I was just there on Saturday (before the incident) to pick up a loaf of the most delicious pumpkin bread I’d ever tasted. Then I decided to drive by after work on Thursday to see why their phone wasn’t working. When I drove by, I was first shocked to see all the lights off already while it was only dusk. Then I was completely horrified and shocked to see the lot fenced off and the building charred with extensive fire damage. I had to pull over. I was in disbelief because I was JUST THERE for an order to go. I thought about all the dear staff that were absolutely top notch and THE kindest people you would ever want to serve you. I wanted to reach out to them somehow. I immediately on the side of the road, looked up any reports and was SO relieved that no one got hurt. I’m new to this area and had finally found a spot that that I was connecting with. They are one of a kind. My favorites are the Turkey club, Fried Fish with THE BEST tartar sauce (trust me), THE BEST sweet potato fries EVER, Fish sandwich (w/o the cole slaw), fresh baked pumpkin bread. And the exceptional service that made everything taste way better. I speak in present tense because I’m believing that they are not a restaurant of the past but one to look forward to. I’m cheering them on because they are one of THE BEST restaurants in New Braunfels. I’ve visited a few. I’ll miss them while they are processing the temporary loss and preparing for what’s next. I hope they keep their heads up and know that God can turn this around for good!

We had River City cater our wedding and they did such an amazing job! We are so grateful for how easy they made the dinner at our wedding. Everything was so delicious!!

My wife had the grilled chicken burger I had the Sunrise Swiss. Both great taste and the potatoes were cut different but they were so good. The staff is just a bunch of lovely folks, we will definitely be going back.

Went on a Saturday night with a group of 15. The service was awesome! The all you can eat catfish (Saturdays only) is the best. Loved the fried okra! We thought the proces were very reasonable.

Kenzi (maybe not spelled right) was our server. She was awesome. Genuine, thorough, kind. A great server. Our food was delivered quick, hot and delicious. We were not for want thanks to her. We rarely leave a restaurant where we all agree that we would go back. Not a beat missed for this visit. Great service, great food.

The food and service were very good. My party of 3 and I were certainly satisfied. Parking may be a little tough on Sunday after church, so bring the patience of the Lord with ya. It was warm inside the dining area, so dress light. Also, the guitar player has great taste in music 🎵

Great food, great staff and quaint ambience. I love this place. Sit inside or on the patio. Enjoy live music and a couple games of corn hole.

Cute restaurant with friendly staff. There's a pretty good variety, from country sides and entrees, BBQ, salads, sandwiches, etc. Our group of 10 got a variety. The sweet potato fries were good. The steamed veggies, Mac and cheese, and brisket were also good. Some of the other choices were a little under seasoned, and the live music was a little loud (but still good).

AMAZING. The lunch specials are great value. The food was at my table about 4 minutes after I ordered it even when they were slammed. Miranda was super polite and recommended the “extra crispy” fries, which were solid. Chicken fried chicken is honestly some of the best I’ve had. I love this place!!

Great service and great food. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is cute and a nice atmosphere on the inside. The back patio area was very nice especially if you have any concerns about inside dining. They serve a limited alcohol menu but we were fine with that. Would definitely recommend.

I didn't eat here. I did a grocery delivery here and had to carry all the groceries in through the back door. Which was a lot. Like 5 gallons of milk , 5 big containers of ice cream. A lot of work I did on this delievery. The thing I have to complain about is they didn't even tip. And I worked hard going back and forth to the car to carry stuff in. They had a lot of employees there and the place wasn't open and no one offered to help or say thank you. I felt like it was a very rude thing to do to someone who just carried in a while car full of groceries. Not even a thank you. So I will never go to this place to eat again. And they place looked really dirty in the back. You have all those employee just sanding around, they should do a deep clean on that kitchen .

Tried this place recently for the first time... Our waitress was definitely one of the best waitress we have ever had.. soo friendly, helpful, sweet.. I think her name was Claire. I will definitely be asking for her again. All you can eat catfish on Saturdays. Soon good! Can't wait to try the chicken fried steak.
