What an enjoyable weekend! My wife and I have not had such a relaxing and enjoyable time away for a very long time and this fit the bill perfectly. The room was very comfortable, well kept, clean, and just right for our stay. A few shops here and there, two longs visits to the hot tub with the evening stars above, two WONDERFUL chef-prepared breakfasts, reading sessions down by the river and on the terraces, some time in the library when it was a bit chilly in the morning, and the opportunity to meet and talk with the owners for quite awhile - all of this added up to a fantastic weekend... Thank you Paul and Aggie! It was wonderful!

This is the second spring in a row that we've spent a night at this hotel on our Texas drive. We'll be back. We enjoy the tranquility of the hotel, the access to the river, the ample outdoor space, the stylish and comfortable indoor rooms, and the scrumptious breakfast on the deck. The location is superb with attractions, including Gruene Hall, only a short walk. The car stays parked (and for free). We were pleasantly surprised to see a deer walking on the outside edge of the hot tub fence. Besides that deer, we had the large outdoor hot tub to ourselves nearly all evening. Did I mention the free wine and treats in the lobby? This hotel is perfect for most anyone-- couples, business retreats, friends, reunions. Staff is friendly and professional. I can't figure out why this hotel is ranked as a two-star hotel. It's at minimum a 4 star hotel.

Hotel was beautiful and private! It felt like we were staying with friends! The hotel is literally right on the Guadalupe River, and has steps leading directly to the river. We were able to get in the river, and watched the tubers go by. The house across the street played music so we were able to listen while we sat on a rock in the river. The food is so good, the breakfasts included foods such as an omelet, flavored grits, biscuits with gravy, a warm parfait, sausage, cinnamon rolls, fresh juice, and coffee. By far, the best grits ever! During the day there are treats such as homemade cookies and water flavored with fresh fruit. Free wine in the evening was awesome too! The staff are very friendly and gave us suggestions for where to eat. The hotel is walking distance to the rest of the Super cute town and shops. We also could walk to Gruene Hall and saw Hayes Carll perform, who was great. My husband and I had so much fun, that we decided we are going to take an annual trip on my birthday and stay in different rooms in the hotel. We stayed in NY Hideaway....super clean and decorated awesome with a river view. 21 and older hotel, so really quiet! Basically private like a B and B, but had the luxuries of a hotel. What a gem!!!

Wanted a relaxing place for a 1 night stay with my husband and we found it. It’s a short walk to all that Gruene has to offer. We enjoyed the hot tub and the breakfast was a delicious way to start our morning off. We plan to return!!

Superb stay. Location just a block from Main St and Gruene Hall. Hotel with themed rooms, loved our room, bathroom and balcony with a river view. Coffee and hit drinks available in Reception with pastries was a nice touch. Happy Hour with wine and beer another nice touch.

We stayed at this beautiful property in late March 2023. Everything about this hotel is awesome...location, the staff, the views, the breakfast..you name it and it was off the charts!!!! We'll definitely stay there again!

We stayed in the Haven, a first-floor, very romantic room. Big walk-in shower, great king-sized bed, and a gas fireplace! The breakfast was fabulous, and so was the staff. There's a game room (we shot some pool) and a lovely library. The entire hotel truly is a retreat. If you're heading to Gruene, make this your venue of choice. While you're in the area, be sure to eat at the Gristmill. Get their onion rings... they're far and away the best I've ever had. And check out the historic Brauntex Theater. We saw Judy Collins perform there last night. Before the show, we ate at McAdoo's, an old post-office converted into a great restaurant. Don't miss it.

Definitely one of the best places to stay in Gruene! This place is absolutely gorgeous and in the best location, walking distance to everything in town and right on the river. The staff there are all amazing and truly treat you like family when you are there! Oh and the breakfast is one of the best parts of staying there as well. Highly recommend staying here, and we will definitely be back in the future.

This is a great place to stay. The breakfasts were hearty and tasty. They had tasty treats and a night time wine and snacks time. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. I strongly recommend Tinseltown as your room! I would recommend staying here and I would stay again.

Outstanding! Super clean, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast, awesome HOT tub, lovely grounds overlooking Guadalupe River. Nice steps with handrails down to river (go ahead and eat all the breakfast - you can work it off on the stairs!). Great location. Friendly staff. We will be back!

This was our first trip to Gruene, we were seeing a show at Gruene Hall, so we decided to stay at a hotel within walking distance. The Gruene River Hotel & Retreat is a gem! The staff was so friendly and very welcoming. We stayed in the Perfect Swing room and it was lovely. The room was immaculate and very well appointed. The attention to decor throughout the room was really nice. The bed and linens were super soft & fresh and we enjoyed the cozy fireplace. The hotel is right on the river so we took a short stroll down the steps and were greeted by 3 deer. The complimentary happy hour and breakfast were a bonus too. We definitely plan to stay at this hotel again, it was a real treat. Cheers!

I met a friend at the resort for a two night get away. The resort was immaculate, the service was excellent and the location was right on the Guadalupe river. Perfect. There is a happy hour, a wonderful hot cooked breakfast and the place is so quiet and relaxing. I plan on going back. You should go too.

We had a lovely time at the Gruene River Hotel! It was probably one of my top 5 places we've ever stayed at - it was clean, wonderfully decorated, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the free morning breakfast and the evening happy hour. The hotel is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants too. We will definitely go back again!

All the reviews are spot on. This place is very nice. The Staff and owners are awesome. The breakfast is excellent. Do read between the lines. It is basically couples only…no kids. “Retreat” is in the name for a reason. It is a great place to go with your significant other to “reset” or re-balance things. We can’t wait to get back.

We absolutely love this place. We have been staying in Gruene for many years. But this was our first time to stay here. The fact that, for us, it’s a 21 and up hotel was perfect for our get away. So relaxing and quiet. The room was cozy, the breakfast was wonderful, the wine & beer social every evening was a nice perk. And not to forget the staff, everyone was so nice and friendly. This is now our go to place in Gruene, hands down. Thank you again for everything. I highly recommend if you want a quiet getaway but still have all the perks of home.

We had a wonderful stay at the Gruene Hotel & Retreat! We stayed in the Cozy Cabin room the first night and had to move rooms the second night because they didn’t have consecutive rooms available due to my last minute booking. They were super accommodating and helpful. We were able to just switch our stuff over right across the hall. The place itself is so cute and cozy. The beds and pillows are awesome - very comfy. BREAKFAST - AMAZING!!! Love it! We will be back.

5 stars are not enough! We stayed in the “Shady Lady” room on 5/17. Everything about this place is perfect. Everything. My husband and I needed a short, relaxing trip for his birthday and this was the perfect location. The owners and staff are so nice and welcoming. Clean is an understatement. Everything was spotless. It was like being at home, only better because all we had to do is relax. Easily worth twice the price of the rooms by the location alone. Breakfast was fantastic, prepared by their chef. Take a relaxing stroll down the path to the river, walk to the cute shops or to dinner down the block, or sit in the outdoor hot tub. Thank you so much for the amazing trip. We’ll be back.
