Wow! What a nice experience. We took the diesel train in the morning in the summer. It was raining at first but quit shortly before the trip. Everyone was so accommodating with our wheelchair access. Yes, you can take a wheelchair. They move a platform to the doorway and raise you up. The windows are half open and the breeze was welcoming. You take a nice paced trip down the tracks while getting a historical experience of the area and times. The trip was an hour and a half in all. You have the choice of getting off and having a 30 minute picnic at picnic tables by the water or you can stay on and ride a bit further. We chose to stay on. Once the trip has gone the distance they stop and go in reverse back to Greenback Station. The seatbacks also change so you don't have to face the wrong direction. There are other train experiences just check out the website for details. It is so relaxing and peaceful, at least that was our experience. My 3 year old grandson fell asleep towards the end. They have a gift shop that doesn't disappoint if you want a souvenir. Don't forget to pickup the train schedule because on the other side is the history. We were stopped and not moving when I took the photo out the window, never put anything out the window while in motion. Enjoy your trip!

What a great experience. We splurged and rented out a caboose. Well worth it! Our family could spread out and move around for different views. The kids loved it. Tip: there are no gift shops in Hockessin. Or maybe we couldn't find one?! Research the town before going, so you have an idea what you want to do for that 30 minutes you are there.

It was a leisurely ride on the old steam engine. The seat backs can be changed for the ride back so you can sit across from your party or change over to face the other direction. The cabins were a touch stuffy - fans would have been nice.

Took the autumn foliage train ride a couple weekends ago. My sister, her daughter and granddaughter were in town to visit my 78 year old mom. The volunteer staff were great. Very accommodating. The views were incredible and the entire experience was enjoyable and memorable. Took lots of photos. Only thing I would change is not to have so much "information and history" through the speakers for the entire ride. Would be nice to just have some peace and quiet to really take in the country side and scenery.

We had a blast! It was a sold-out Santa train ride. The volunteers did an awesome job getting everyone on the train quickly. The train is beautiful, well maintained, and clean. Santa and Mrs. Claus were awesome. I highly recommend this

A fun experience for the whole family. It was even wheelchair accessible. We did the autumn leaf special. Where we did the 1.5 hour train ride with a picnic lunch (that we brought). Very picturesque scenes along the route

We took our 1 1/2 year old grandson for the holiday lights trip. He absolutely loved the gift shop! It was convenient that juice packs were for sale that there was a family rest room available. The station was nicely decorated and lit up, as was the train, both inside and out. There was so much excitement from the younger riders as we passed the displays set out by residents along the track. The ride might have been just a little long for the youngest travelers. However, it was a nice experience to share with our family.

Relaxing trip thru the countryside. The rail cars were nicely restored. All staff are volunteers! Just don't expect it to run on time

we did the Brews on Board tour. Such a fun time & unique experience. This is all volunteer run & I admire the dedication & preservation for the train. Very comfortable ride with the windows open traveling through the DE area to New Castle.

An absolutely lovely and very relaxing train ride, especially on Mother's Day, with a delicious dinner that every mother will thoroughly enjoy!!!

Only giving this 3 starts because the staff was friendly and were proactive with ensuring everyone was having a good experience. In all honesty, I don’t really think there was anything scenic or adventurous about the train ride; All I saw were nothing but trees and small creeks. Maybe this might be a better journey for the locals but as someone who traveled over 2 hours just for this, I felt like that it was a complete waste of time.

We took the kids on the Christmas train ride, and it surely did not disappoint. Everyone was super nice and in the Christmas spirit. We sang Christmas carols and look at amazing light displays along the route. It was in total about ab hour ride. Half an hour there and half an hour back. We will definitely be back next year, but tickets sell out fast, so don't delay!

Such a wonderful ride. It's so much fun to ride the Wilmington & Western. Going during the holidays with the train all decorated. Playing wonderful old time Christmas music and singing carols with the train volunteers is for every kid at heart like me. We are so lucky to have the many great volunteers who keep the train going.

Love taking the night train ride to see the Christmas lights out along the way. 1 hour ride. Dress warm, it's cold out there. The train is all decorated up

This train ride is a blast. They allow food and drink and even a picnic area halfway through the ride. But the best part is when they and the community put up Christmas lights. Tickets go quick, so get them early. A big shout-out to the Entire volunteer workforce!

Did the Holiday lights Express. Our family had a very nice time. Reasonable prices, awesome lighting on the train. Great setup. Ride was about an hour total. Staff and crew were helpful and friendly. Gift shop was amazing with lots of Polar Express and classic Christmas gifts. Seats on the train were somewhat worn and some fellow passengers were visibly intoxicated or impaired. Made the trip a bit uncomfortable. That was our only issue, otherwise a delightful evening we will probably do again..

My family visited this train ride for their daytime Santa experience. Our cousin purchased the tickets and mentioned she set her alarms to make sure we were able to get them. Thank goodness. This was our first ride and I am not sure what else could top it! A beautiful scenic ride, cute train car, switchable seats so that a group of 4 could face each other. The houses that sit along the railroad decorate for a contest that you can vote on in the station. Although it was daytime many homeowners came out and waved to us! Arrive early so that you can experience the train coming into the station! Along the ride you will see lots of waterways, cross roads, spot beautiful houses, and enjoy open fields. Your ticket will be punched, though no fancy words will be written like we see in the polar express. Santa can by once for a photo and a second time to sing jingle bells. Their elf helper gave good directions of what to expect. (Santa sits on the armrest of the chairs and is dry clean only🀭🀭) We brought snacks and sandwiches, even a thermos of hot chocolate. I also brought books and car activities for the littles. While the adults could sit great for the hour and a half, having additional materials for the littles was a good call. I'm not sure what other train rides are doing but I can't imagine there is one that can top the Wilmington and western railroad!

Fun experience on an old railroad car built in 1915 to see the fall foliage.

Such a fun time on the railroad! We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, the train very clean and everything in good repair. This is a place to take kids, or the whole family. You can stop and have a picnic halfway through in a beautiful grove.

First time booking a ride on this train. We will definitely book more rides. The kids, young and old loved it.

Near experience for sure. Very cool train and the quality is cool to see. The tickets said you would get off at a picnic area but you get the option to stay on the train. We prepared a snack so got off but would have stayed on otherwise.

Helpful and friendly volunteers staff that were very knowledgable. The conductor shared interesting facts about what we were seeing. If you ride all the way to the end you see abandoned factories. The picnic are was pretty and next to the water.

Nice ride through wooded scenery behind a tough 0-6-0. Will do it again!

Nice ride on the Autumn Leaf Special even if the steam engine wasnt running. Train is slower then expected, but nice views. Not much to do for shops at the halfway point. Still worth the trip. Neat to hear about the history on the ride.

Took a nice, relaxing ride up to the northern-most terminus of the WWRR line behind #58. I have been riding on this railroad since the 70’s, and have fond memories of the RR and the being able to see a steam locomotive up close as a kid. Being able to still go over and enjoy them later in life is therapeutic, and I still love being around a working steam engine. Living 10 minutes from the WWRR is great. The volunteers that keep this RR running are the heart and soul of it, and keep the history of the area, not just the RR alive. Keeping the steam locomotives in good running order is no small feat. Kudos to the volunteers for keeping all the rolling stock in service. If in the area, or planning to be, check them out!

This was a great find for my gfs pop pops 90th birthday. We spent a 2 hour ride in one of the cars as a private party. BYO-everything. The only issue was we were told up until that day the train would be back at 1:30pm...so we got there in time to be ready to set up the car for pop pop...to then be told no it was never 1:30pm but 2pm...so slightly salty about that since it was a lot of planning for this milestone. But we made it work.

I was not expecting to have as much fun as I did, and I was not aware that volunteers run the show! They did an awesome job keeping the hundreds of people moving. The store was well stocked, the bathrooms are brand new, and the train is very clean! My grandson was thrilled.

Very cool experience. The first stop is a picnic spot (has benches and is by the stream) where you can get down and you have about 30 minutes to hang out and then get back on the train on its way back to the station.

The constant screeching of the Brakes of the train gave me a headache. There's not much to visit ... to browse through.. BUT the scenery of the small stream with the beautiful Trees painted the background. Awesome ❣️

We took a leaf peepers ride on the W&W - great fun! Beautifully restored historic train cars and a lovely ride with interesting narration. Note that the whole operation is run by volunteers. They were a little short handed the day we went and running a little late. They're all volunteers so cut them some slack and be prepared to be flexible. Highly recommend, just go with a good attitude and a little bit of patience.

Had a lovely time. Leaves were probably at peak prettiness. Really appreciated the history lesson from the conductor. Fun experience.
