👍👍 Sultan Ghari was the first Islamic Tomb built in India. It was constructed (or perhaps converted) by Sultan Iltutmish in 1231 for his eldest son Nasiruddin Mahmud who died during his governorship of Bengal province. A good and quite place to visit. This monument is a hidden gem. Located not far from the busy Chhatarpur - Mahipalpur - Airport road. The approach from the main road is little rough but manageable. There is an entry ticket costing ₹ 25.00 I would definitely recommend travellers and explorers to visit this historical site. It is worth mentioning that this monument is supposedly the first Islamic Mausoleum ever built in India or say the Indian Sub Continent.

Iltumish was the third Sultan of the Slave Dynasty who ruled in Delhi from 1210 to 1236 AD. The area where the Ghari (meaning: cave) tomb is situated, was part of medieval Delhi known as the Slave Dynasty that ruled during the period 1206 CE to 1290 CE, pre-existed as a Hindu temple from Gurjara-Pratihara era (700 to 1100 CE). This area is now part of the Qutb complex.

It’s hard to believe that a place like this, a piece of history has survived unknown near the busy, bustling city of Delhi. Ruins scattered amid shrubs, thorny bushes and rocks reverberate with enchanting tales of emperors and kingdoms that existed 800 years ago. Sultanghari is the oldest mausoleum that was built in India by emperor Sham ud din Iltutmish for his eldest son Nasir ud din Mahmud. This tomb is a hard find and is virtually unknown in Vasant Kunj. There are people playing around and the tomb like most places of Delhi is forgotten and in a bad shape. There is also a dargah inside the tomb which consists of three graves.

One of the earliest mausoleum in India, Sultan Garhi tomb was constructed by Iltutmish for his son Nasiruddin Mahmud who died while on a war expedition to Lakhnauti in Bengal. It marks the beginning of Islamic elements into the architecture styles of India. The tomb stands on the site of an ancient hindu or jain temple.Several other monument remains belonging to Tugalaq and later Mughal era can be found scattered all around the tomb complex. It was renovated by Feroz Tugalaq. The place has gained importance as a religious shrine for the locals who come to pay their obeisance in the underground chamber of the complex. Visiting the place one can understand how art and architecture of tomb structure evolved during the Sultanate period, beginning from Sultan Garhi and reaching to final culmination at Taj Mahal, Agra.

Its a nice place, ticket required to enter in main complex, but you visit most of the sites without it. *For cyclists* You can visit this place for rough off road riding. This complex is like small village with many houses, and to way to these small huts and houses(now ruins) is pathways full of stones and bushes... !! If you want to spent some peaceful time, this place is good. Not much crowded, many parks here side by side, full of greenary. There is a lake, park and running track also, its really nice place to visit.

Sultan Ghari is a lesser-known historical site in Delhi. This medieval tomb, believed to be the resting place of Prince Nasiruddin Mahmud, offers a glimpse into India's architectural and historical past. The serene and quiet ambiance adds to its charm. However, it's often overlooked in favor of more prominent monuments. If you're passionate about history and looking for an offbeat historical site, Sultan Ghari is worth a visit. It's advisable to check the accessibility and hours of operation before planning your visit, as it might not be as well-maintained or accessible as other historical sites in Delhi.

Great place very ancient point of reference when dotting the historical map of delhi, hidden from the mainstream archeological circuit. Now it has been converted into a mazar but the garbhgriha resembles the seat of Bhavani, chief diety of Rajputs. Visit on Monday and Wednesday observe the architecture and if you go in a group, explore the surrounding monuments too.

This 1231 structure is considered to be the first Islamic Mausoleum is supposed to be the first to be built in India. It's not in the form of a tomb but more like a fort buitl by Iltutmish for his son Naseer U Din Mahmud. Situated in the heart of South Delhi ,in Vasant Kunj, this historical place is completelty forgotten and ignored.

Unexplored by people. Most people should know about it. A 12th century architecture.

The drive to the monument is cryptic. The road is uneven and no proper signage is available. Preferable to visit it during day time and arrange a commutation to and out of the place. It should be on the to do list for any one seeking an off the popular Sightseeing place. Must Do.

A defunct well at the outside area of Tomb of Sultan Ghari. may be used at that time. Erected towers to fetch the water is till here but no water in the well. It is full of debris and other plastic material.

While Ill maintained like most ASI sites. This is a quiet place for contemplation and walk around Vasant Kunj. The history is evident but so is the neglect.
