I do not recommend this place. We liked the funky retro look so pulled over hopefully, intending to order dinner. We couldn't tell if it was open. The door was propped open but the place was empty and dark. However, we asked and were told to come in. It was eerily quiet. No one was in the building except a man who seemed to be the owner as well as the cook and a woman who served us. The dynamic between the two of them was...very odd. I don't know how to describe it. I can only say that something was "off" about it, in a concerning way. We immediately felt uncomfortable, and as the place appeared to also be rather dirty and ill-kept, we decided to just order dessert so the kids wouldn't be disappointed. The menu had numerous dessert options, but they said they didn't have anything we ordered, so eventually we ended up ordering fried dough and an unwanted slice of cake. While we waited for the food, we tried to play music with the jukebox at our table. It was sticky and gross, but we were celebrating my birthday and were trying to make it fun for the kids. The jukebox ate two quarters, so my son told the man. He gave my son a new quarter, came over and lectures us about how to use it, then made a half-hearted attempt to try to make it work for us, which it never did. Since no one was around, we tried the one at the table next to us. That one didn't work either. Then our food arrived. The fried dough was really, really greasy and very burnt. I have never turned up my nose at fried dough, but if I had already had dinner and hadn't been so hungry, I wouldn't have eaten even a second bite. The cake was obviously a store bought frozen cake that had been thawed and sliced for customers. I am pretty sure it came right from Stop and Shop. Even so, it was overly sweet and disgusting tasting. We were served water in glasses we were not certain were clean. The whole thing was pretty gross. The man seemed very upset we only ordered dessert, but was pretty nice to the kids anyway (which was about the only good thing to be said about the whole experience). However, when he asked how our food was, something in his tone made me nervous for our server, so we just told him "good." Then we were given a bill (the food was not cheap either!!), and even though our table was right in front of the register, we were told we must go to the register to pay, so we stood up, did that, and walked out, certain we would never return. What a bizarre experience!

Went to this diner for lunch at work and ordered a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. The owner/Cook went in the back and made it in less than 3 minutes. Took a bite into my sandwich and the chicken looked like it was made a day or 2 ago and just reheated in the microwave. Oh and didn't ask for a receipt and there was an extra 2 dollars on my debit card bill. The bathrooms are a piece of work too. This retro diner should've stayed in the past sorry. πŸ‘Ž

Just ordered from here through snackpass a week or two ago and the service was amazing. I normally only comment on the food--which I will. I ordered a shrimp pesto pizza and a large cheese. However, there was a bit of a mishaps and they gave me two entire medium pizzas (their medium is also quite large for NH standards). The owner even called me up and asked how everything was and to check on things, which is unheard of now. The pizza obvious was not Sally's or Pepe's, but both were solid pies, especially for the price. I will try their other dishes that aren't pizza and edit my review. So far so good new management!

One star only cause I had to. Today was the worst dining experience I've ever had. The food was horrible and the owners fingernails were black and wore disgusting clothing. Not only the food was horrible but the way the owner spoke to the only waitress in the place was appalling in front of his only customer. Then when the bill came he started adding in items and over charging me and still brought me my change two dollars short. This place should be called the negative 5 diner!

This has been an amazing experience. I have been going here for years and have tried most of the items in the menu. The pizza and sandwiches are amazing and really shine in this retro diner especially compared to the rest of new haven. Everything is freshly made and really good.

Where do I begin? The place is filthy. Windows look like they have not been washed since the place opened years ago. Bathroom dark, smelly and disgusting. They have cute jukeboxes on every table, but the one on our table was sticky with grease and took my money. Told the waitress but she shrugged her shoulders with indifference. Food was tasteless, including toast. Not sure how someone can screw up toast but I suspect it's because the bread and butter were old and stale. Housefries: tasteless. Omelette: tasteless. My friend's water glass had unrecognizable items floating on it. Do yourself a favor - skip this diner and drive over to I-91 to 91 Diner Restaurant. That diner is impeccably clean, and the food is always fresh and delicious. The only reason I tried Star Diner is because my car was getting repaired at the shop next door.

Service 9stat food even better because of the service. I ordered a speciality pizza at whim and they accommodated my request. Can’t wait to try breakfast ✊🏿
