I booked this for the Buju Banton concert months beforehand. Then about a week before they told me they didn't have a room for me and stated that I never booked with them despite having the confirmation email. It put me in a really bad position with little rooms left in Kingston.

This is a b&b with a lot of personality and charm from well travelled hosts, Valerie and John. Their house is filled with local art, Balinese pieces and Jamaican character. Safe neighbourhood, their house backs into the Prime Minister compound. Water pressure isn't the greatest and this seems typical in Jamaica.

Really beautiful one of the best airbnb for it's price, feels like a mini villa and a hotel meshed in with a Caribbean mom's home. Very welcoming like a family but you still feel the absence and are able to disappear into your own space.

I like the quiet atmosphere and the rustic ambiance. I felt safe and the property is located in a beautiful community. The management team was friendly and very helpful. The amenities were minimal but applicable for the price, providing exactly what you needed without the fluff. I would definitely return.

Luxury For The Soul! This is THE home away from home. I am so eternally grateful to have found the beautiful Mikuzi family. I chanced upon Mikuzi looking for accommodation for a last minute trip to Kingston. I was taken in by the characterful rooms and hammocks! The real thing is even better than the pictures, due so much to the amazing people who run this gorgeous place. Valerie and John truly made us feel like we were part of the family and extended so much care and kindness to us. From sharing delicious Jamaican fruits and plantain porridge with us at breakfast to connecting us with their wonderful son Chad (who incidentally runs another place in Portland - a must) and giving us tons of recommendations that made our trip 100x better. We met so many other wonderful guests and really enjoyed socialising in the yard mornings and evenings. Such a peaceful and relaxing environment, after a day exploring Kingston, Mikuzi always felt like solace to come back to. I will only ever stay at Mikuzi when I return to Kingston. Thank you so much Mikuzi massive <3

They do airbnb as well as long term rental. I needed a place for long term rental because I was starting a new job in Kingston. Their current rate is 95000 JMD per month, inclusive of utilities and furniture (no microwave nor washing machine, washing is done separately at a cost of 500JMD per load - one machine for everyone. There is no dryer and space is limited for drying). Also, very small parking space, poor internet and thin walls. In addition to paying the rent, you are required to give passport size photographs, letter of reference and pay slips. I went there on a Wednesday to pay one month’s deposit and the first month’s rent (190K). The price was ridiculous but I was desperate. Being that this is a large sum of money, I called prior to going and asked if I could pay via bank transfer, they agreed. I got there and made the transaction in front of the owner and sent the receipt to her. The agreement was that I would move in the following Sunday. On Thursday I called and asked if they had received the money, they said no. (the transaction should have been done in 24hrs using the local banking system ACH). On Friday I called again and they still didn’t receive the money. I decided to call my bank. My bank informed me that they will open a case to investigate why the money hadn’t been transferred and that it will take three business days to be resolved. I called back and informed the owner. On Sunday when I went there to move in, she greeted me saying that she wanted to tell me to take one month’s rent in cash because she doesn’t feel comfortable with me moving in and she hasn’t received any payment has yet. I told her that I understand her concern, but that she shouldn’t worry because the money is between our banks and if for some reason it doesn’t get to her account, I will be the one at risk because I will still need to find her her rent. When I got to the room, there was an horrific stench. The previous occupant had left their garbage there and the room hadn’t been cleaned since. In addition to the garbage there were cockroaches running around, used towels on the bathroom floor and dirty sheets on the bed. I brought it to the owner’s attention, she briefly apologised for the garbage and said that “you see, this is why I wanted the rent, because if you had paid it this wouldn’t have happened”. I reiterated that the rent was paid, and that it was only a matter of time before she receives it. She then stated that because she didn’t received payment she doubted that I would move in so she didn’t bother to make sure the room was cleaned. We spent about five minutes arguing our viewpoints until we both agreed that it is pointless to continue arguing and we should just move on. She left with the garbage and told me to bring her the used sheets when I changed them. About ten minutes later she came to me and said that she doesn’t want me to move in because she’s not comfortable with the whole thing, she said that we didn’t start off on the right foot and that this would only lead to future problems. Imagine being told this at 7 pm on a Sunday evening knowing that you have your first day of work the next day. I got my stuff and left without knowing where I would spend the night. The money was lodged into her account the following Wednesday, exactly one week after being sent from my account. This was an inconvenience, but it was out of my control. I was refunded 180k, she decided to take 10k from me because I had left some of my stuff in the room from Wednesday when I made the payment. I did not agree to this, she gave me the 180K and walked away. In conclusion the place is okay if you’re looking for a rustic environment in Kingstown, and don’t mind being too close in proximity to other tenants.

We had the loveliest time at Mikuzi, this was our favorite accommodation in Jamaica. It’s ideally located in the city. The room was super cute, and cozy too, and very clean. The garden is like a peaceful, green oasis in the middle of all the buzzing of Kingston, and is simply a great place to come back to after a long and busy day. John and Valerie were the highlight of it all, we had such nice talks with them, about life, about Kingston and Jamaica, about pretty much everything. They are open minded and super welcoming. They are the nicest people you’ll meet, plus they had so many recommandations too as to what to do in the city. We will definitely come back to Mikuzi next time we come to Kingston, and I can only recommend staying here, you won’t regret it one bit!! Thanks again for everything John and Valerie!
