Sweetwood Jerk Joint

Restaurant

👍👍 Couple of friends just ate here. Food was so good I had to review this place right away. I tried jerk pork and sausage and friends tried jerk chicken and ribs. We recommend everything! They have three sizes: 1/4, 1/2 and 1 pound. The 1/4 lb jerk pork wasn’t a big portion, recommend getting half poun... People often mention jerk, chicken, good, pork, great, order, staff, Jerk,

Very good place to buy Jerk Pork and Jerk Chicken with side orders, juices, beer and sodas. Nice for families and friends but the workers talk too much when they get comfortable with customers and disrespect people sending their money to eat. Need better workers.

Avoid this place. The women here are rude. Once we got past the guy giving the hand sanitizer sprays, the rest of this was an unpleasant experience. The person who was supposed to be taking our order was on the phone, and didn’t even pause to acknowledge our presence. Next, someone else came around and offered to take our order, but did not even bother to look at us while taking the order. Then she proceeded to mock our accents when we asked about the sides that she was attempting to up-sell. It was then that we decided to cancel whatever they were going to make for us. She was rude. The other worker on the phone was rude, and I am definitely not going to be treated that way.

Very excellent location, but that's where the excellence stops. Staff is ok if you catch them on the right day. I work close by so out of convenience I've been there often. If you focus on the food, you'll miss the appearance of the place (this is a plus). Food is ok, I'll give them that. Main items (jerk pork/chicken) generally good. The owners have a great opportunity to use the location to their advantage.

Great fresh jerk chicken/pork. Very authentic. Honest about currency conversion. Try their pepper sauce, if you like HOT stuff. Right across from Pegasus hotel.

Food was amazing, real jerk food, no oven jerk .I took my friend who is not Jamaican so the he could experience some of our culture and this place came through for us.The jerk pork was our favorite 10/10 spice 😋, breadfruit ,potato and festival 😋 amazing , staff were also amazing 100% recommend it .It's right infront of Pegasus hotel so if you happen to be staying there it's a easy walk across the street.

Went on 7/2. Food was dry and tasteless. They offered me another piece of pork after I got into an argument with the supervisor. Told me not to touch the piece that I was originally eating. Looks like she had the intention to serve it to other customers. The ribs were stale and dry. Attitude of workers was absolutely disgusting.

Visited for lunch today and the first thing we noticed is that none of the employees (except the security guard) were wearing masks. As my husband was placing the order, I saw one of the servers eating behind the mesh and picking her teeth with her fingers. I was just about to suggest we leave when I realized that my husband had already paid by card. So I told myself OK, she must be planinng to wash her hands before preparing my food. But lo and behold! The cashier handed her the receipt and she began to prep the food without washing her hands Really??? Not even pre-covid would this have been acceptable much less now! Needless to say I canceled the order immediately. To make matters worse, when I told the cashier to refund the order and explained why, she didn't care one iota. It was as if it was just another normal day at Sweetwood jerk joint! So please, if you are covid conscious or simply like to have your food prepared under sanitary conditions, do yourselves a favor and avoid this place like the plague.

A good jerk barbecue experience, minutes from the Pegasus hotel. If you're staying at the hotel its definitely worth checking out. Get the platter of jerk chicken, pork, and sausages.

I spent a week in town for work, and this place served the best jerk chicken I had all week. When I return to Jamaica I will definitely visit Sweetwood for more jerk.

No jerk sauce, 2 small containers of either Ketchup or sweet sauce mix. Chicken was dry, could taste and feel the cornmeal in the festival. Won't be heading back..

Beer was warm. Food was cold. But tasted pretty good. Not very spicy jerk but additional hot sauce was good. Serene ambience next to emancipation Park if you are in town. Quick service and quite affordable. Wish they had more sides available

I went on a Sunday so understandably it wasn't a full menu, but the food was good and the staff were pleasant.

The place was empty, but I got nice warm food within a minute. Being able to sit down and eat lunch where you buy it is something I missed over the past year and a half.

Service was great, but the jerk chicken could have been a bit better.

Went there with the family on Sunday evening. The service was very poor. The waitress threw down the tray of food and walked away after mumbling something about ketchup and pepper. NEVER AGAIN!

I don’t recommend this place. There are many other options for good jerk food. The chicken wasn’t well seasoned (flavour was faint). The tables weren’t clean when we went to sit and it took the wait staff a long time to come and clean it. There was also a foul smell coming from a section of the dining area beside the kitchen and lastly the waitress that I dealt with was very unpleasant. It felt like I was bothering her when I inquired about my order. The cashier was nice though but overall I didn’t enjoy the visit, and won’t be going back

The Chef here obviously does not care about quality control based on the food that was packaged and sent out for delivery to me, you'd be better off going there to eat so you can send the food back easily. The jerk pork is extremely dry, and comes with a very hard dark shell of burnt crust. The chicken is chopped up into so many pieces I spent half of the time spitting out bones and the way they package the roasted sweet potato makes me wonder if someone was eating my food. Thank goodness we have options in Kingston people eat here just don't know better and deserve better.

Great Jerk spot in Kingston. Menu options are limited depending on the day that you go but you're sure to enjoy whatever they have available.

Pork was nice and juicy, my partner had the chicken which was a little dry. Nice place to visit although a little pricy for the amount given. Staff very friendly

Had some very good jerk chicken. Couple of different sizes to choose from be careful if you don’t handle spicy food well. But, the chicken tastes great just as it comes. 1/2 jerk chicken 1,200 Jamaican about $9.00 US.

Food was great, secure parking. The place needs a little renovation though

We had jerk chicken and festival. The jerk chicken was not freshly jerked and was served from an igloo. It was cold and tastless . The festival was also cold and tasted like it was fried in stale oil. The juice bottles that we received had a raw smell as if they were stored with raw meat. Positives are that this place has a nice environment and adequate seating for family, food was served very quickly and interaction with staff was pleasant. However there is a lot of room for improvement where food preparation is concerned.
