Poor customer service. The people who take payments treat you like you are there to beg them something. The doctors lie to you all the time and the unqualified and inexperienced students and junior doctors are left alone to treat parents. Hate the time they don’t know the answer to anything you ask about your condition.

This Hospital needs to be evaluated. As an American that went down to visit a fellow American at the hospital. This place was the worst. Rude nurses and staff. You report them and they come back worst than ever. If you choose this profession you should do it out of the kindness of your heart. (Even Jamaicans the flew in for family members had issues with the care that was given to their family members and was cursing them out) This place is unfit for a person to heal and be cured for in a timely manner. A bed sore is unacceptable. Vacationed in Jamaica 22 times and will never go back after this experience.****The star is just for the doctors that did their job.

How does one give a negative rating? Like a -12 rating. Why must hundreds of thousands of dollars be paid for surgery, and then have the patient sent back home THREE times without having done this operation due to the negligence of doctors and related professionals and the maintenance of OT equipment? Why must doctors become almost unreachable when questions are to be answered and concerns addressed? Why should more money be paid for tests to be done? (Tests that were already done) Why do they happily discharge you without further information as to how they will proceed and account for the inconvenience? WHY can’t I get back my money as quick as it was paid when billed? Hm? Tell me why. This hospital and the people that work with them are the reason for families’ distress, loss and worry. First time trying a public hospital and didn’t even get the treatment paid for. Trust and believe it is the last. UWI Hospital thanks for making sick people sicker, the weak and poorly weaker and the hopeful dispirited. What’s a hospital with a six month wait time for emergency surgery? A hospice.

First of all I would love to know who is giving these four and five star reviews because nothing in my experience there would warrant more than a two star and that is being generous. Me and a friend were in a car accident and I had to wait how much hours in A&E before I could be seen. I could have had internal bleeding for all anybody knew. Ended up sleeping on a makeshift bed in A&E. The worse night ever in any hospital. The noise levels from patients and staff were unbelievable for a hospital. Most of the so-called nurses were very unprofessional treating patients rude and manhandling them. My friend is in a orthopedic ward and there is not even a fan so it is stifling at night. One patient was able to get up from the bed to open the window but of course that let in the mosquitoes and my friend whose bed is next to the window suffered. There is barely any staff around at night time so any problems that arise patients are on therir own. It is now 12.02 Saturday afternoon and my friend who has severe injuries has not had a wash since yesterday morning and has not opened his bowels since he was admitted on Monday five days ago. Nobody seems to care about the patients at all. I am fretting that their poor treatment is going to kill my friend as he can’t do much for himself due to his injuries.

It is unfortunate that you are unable to truly give what an establishment deserves which in my opinion is zero. Not just based on one experience, but what seems to be a universal issue with UWIH. The actual lack of communication and care is negligibly grotesque. The stories emanating about this place, it is as if they do not know what the basis of health care is. What is apparent however is that there is something fundamentally wrong with the leadership of this hospital that has poisoned what appears to be every level from the administration to the doctors/consultants and support staff. Do not be swayed by the fact that this is a private hospital, it is not better than the public institutions, in fact the public hospitals actually have a grasp of the concept of human decency. It is hard to start to wrap my mind around the idea of how many persons may have been further hurt or even lost their lives because of this hospital's inability to do basis of what a health care provider should do and that is offer health care. Save your time, money and life and find somewhere else.

It's totally shocking to know that patients are still being treated like animals in UWI jamaica. I was able to witness firsthand the service that is offered to really unwell patients. How is it possible to have CANCER patients sitting and waiting from 7 am until 5 pm before a doctor decides to invite them in for their 5 minutes consultation !!!!! where is the patientcare , the compassion, and the duty of care that you all so happily pledge to ? Walking around with a stethoscope draping around your necks doesn't cut it , get up off your high horses, and do some work !!!!!! You are the ones unwell patients tend to trust with their health, and this is how they are treated . It's a disgrace !!!! I am a health care professional myself, and my experience there makes me question whether we share a similar career ...... , I believe there is so much more you could learn about putting patients first and acting with integrity , maybe enrol yourselves on some bite-size courses, i believe this could be a benefit. You are not quite there yet for this journey. it's a shame .

Worst Place Ever! My fingers got burnt in a fire 2 weeks ago and after screening I waited in A&E for 4.5 hours (There weren't not a lot of patients there at the time). The doctor barely assessed my fingers. Its almost as if she didn't want to touch me. On top of that, her assessment was wrong. She said I had received 1st degree burns when in fact it was 2nd degree burns. I am not even complaining about the long wait time (I expected that). What I really cant fathom is the quality of the doctor, she was not thorough, her customer service was poor and she did not read the screening report because she asked me back all the questions I was asked when I was being screened by another doc.

The worst nurses in the world. They should be ashamed of themselves and should lose their jobs and be replaced by decent caring human beings. I am sick and tired of hearing how horrible they are and nothing is being done. This hospital and its nurses have gone to the dogs and whosoever runs it I don't know how you get a good night sleep. All of you are cruel and horrible to your patients and I would hope you and your family receive the same care you give. You need a -100 rating. Wicked people in the wrong profession.

Arrived at 9 am for an eye clinic and was advised to go to emergency for high blood pressure. I Registered and started waiting at after registration at 1:17 pm. It is now 10:44 pm and they have been waiting on blood work since that time, I always did a ECG and received one drip (even tho on the receipt it said I had gotten 2). At 10:55 pm o was told my kidneys are damaged and I will need a specialist and cannot come back tomorrow or I would have the start the process over again. would not recommend this hospital.

I am currently in the hospital and I am so overwhelmed gratitude and admiration of the staff here esp ... In the A&E . I was terrified on my entrance and with how I was treated by everyone my fears subsided. The nurses and the doctors were passionate with what they were doing even in this busy environment....they had so much persons to attend to but they were busy in their hives getting the work done ...with a pleasant smile to go with it. Always willing to take the time out to explain any doubt I may have with treatment and my condition. I am pleased....that I am here safe in their medical nest ...a comfort zone to heal Than for everything....You are appreciated🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍👍🏆 Karen Allen JP May28 2021

They do not have adequate parking and while men are allowed on the labour ward they are not welcomed by most of the members of the medical team. For example, my spouse went in to have baby at around 1:30pm. I got there with her packed bags at 3pm and couldn't see my spouse. They took the bags and its contents and told me to wait outside uninformed for an undetermined time in which I was unable to get any information about what was the status of my spouse and my child. I think father's should be a part of the entire process, from the preparation to afterbirth. If we are asked to stay outside from the beginning it just gives an impression that we don't belong in the union and our own children lives.

Social Worker literally blocked me when I requested a copy of a referral for a person in my care so he could get crucial follow up medications he needs in order to function. The phone system to try and get through to anyone is appallingly awful. The doctors do not listen to you and it’s like a nightmare when you do finally meet with them because no one around here listens. And I literally mean no one- not the staff or doctors. I had to literally beg a doctor to help me. Wrong information was given out constantly. This has more to do with negligence and arrogance than anything else. I’m sure there’s good doctors around but I had a bad experience in my few times there. And it was during a time I was desperate for help.

I am in the emergency room with my sister cause she wanted to go to KPH but she has always had bad experiences the way how they treat the patients with gross disrespect. Now I wish I had taken her there cause I expected to tmbe spoken to and be treated like pig. but no at thw University Hospital. I trained her as a registered nurse and went overseas and now I am so disappointed at the quality of people that works there. I think I need to come home and give them some in service in good customer service because you cannot speak to patients so disrespectful and on ur cell phone at the same time. Wow..what a great difference and it is not cultural, it is just quality. Funny enough I have met many Jcan nurse where I work and of course they do not behave like this...so why not practice it at home. Patients are sick that's why they come to the ER not just to hang out cause it cost you $2500 just to get in. Come on guys do better ...HAVE SOME PRIDE IN WHAT YOU DO

My father has worked here for 35 yrs , he is now 83yrs old and is seeking medical attention. Should he have to sit in casually since 9am yesterday morning 2/28/22 until March 1st still waiting without directives. He came in due to shortness of breath, yes he has a heart condition, yes he's old , yes he's hungry, yes he's tired of waiting yes he need answers. Yes he has a family that cares. Please make sure he gets the proper service and proper documentation is done because enough is enough.. Dr. Shepard is on her way , this makes no sense. Jamaica's health care is a scare.

The administrative office people at the front must be more informed how to deal with people. Learn to give people accurate information, and where to bring document. People dont have time to waste. Staying hole day at the hospital. That is crazy. They Dont no what they are doing. Give people wrong information. The system is rotten and disgusting. Disgraceful

I'm SO SICK OF THIS HOSPITAL acting as though y'all are better than any other hospital. I wouldn't as much as send my dog here if he was dying! It's the 2nd time I've lost a family at this place. HOW can you not give care to a STROKE victim when you KNOW the first 3hrs are critical? 9-10hrs and we're STILL waiting for care? Y'all need to stop playing God even if the patient has a 1% chance of survival. Your oath is to protect lives! You guys literally waited for my cousin to die, and watched him suffer. We are TIRED of those student nurses and doctors who do NOT have a clue as to what they're doing! In critical moments when care is needed the ACTUAL experienced doctors should be at the forefront. It's just because a regular Jamaican won't sue y'all that's why you guys have the audacity to behave like this! And to call a spouse LONG after their partner has died is ANOTHER form of WICKEDNESS! And only to find y'all took him up before the spouse shows up? 🤦🏽Like who do you think you are? There should be laws against things like this and you just wait and see, we will find a lawyer!

If i could give zero stars then i would! I took my daughter here on Monday night because of a high fever! After registration and sitting there for atlest a hour her name was called to see the screening doctor! She did the required checks and i was asked to go to the next waiting room to see the doctor on call! This was getting close to 1:30am, i sad there unattended until 5:45am... the morning staff was getting ready to come on to work and everyone was still passing all the patients like they didnt exist! No one was addressing us nd no one was attending to us! I was tired, fustrated and had a sick baby in my arms... so i got really loud, cussed and left! This was my first experience, and i oray it is my last! What is happening to these nures and doctors, where is the patirent care? Wasnt that apart of the requirements for the job! Name alone unnu a live offa!

The only difference between here and public you actually have to pay for everything, but same amount of waiting or more, and basically that's the whole point I came here, is not to wait forever😒 nurse put me on treatment ward think that's called, A&E and told me to wait for my name, after three and a half hours of waiting If I didn't got up and ask one of the nurses at the front desk on that particular section why isn't my name being called nobody wouldn't have told me I was sitting at the wrong place, differently, nurses and doctors were pleasant and friendly, but why take a million years just to do one single ultra sound ?

Prepare to wait. Came in with a confirmed 1:30 appointment to see Dr. Paul Scott. It is 3:47 and I am STILL waiting. Not sure if he will fix the breathing problems that I have - but clearly I have been blessed with multiple new issues as I have been coughed on and sneezed on by people since I arrived in a waiting room with no air conditioning. Though, the staff was kind enough to provide a fan about 90 mins into my wait. Knowing there are only 2 pulmonologists in Kingston makes waiting a must if you cannot make it back to a country with adequate medical care. A ridiculous, sad experience that I really really would not wish on my enemy.

If I could take this star back I would. Service is unacceptable!! What's the sense in coming to the ER to sit for hours without being attended to. Everyone just walks by and if you're not there! Pregnant and after 6 hours still haven't seen a doctor! Apparently you have to be breathing your last breath to be considered am emergency in this hell hole. UPSETTING!!!!

This the most uncaring hospital I have ever witnessed. My father died Wednesday, and the doctors refused to write a death certificate to accommodate the release of his body to a funeral home. I was told not to come and until they call us.

Disorganised and rude staff. They seem somewhat medically competent but disrespectful nonetheless. I was ASKED to come in by a doctor to bring medication prior to surgery. These rude belligerent nurses really ruined my day to the point I had to write this review. I recommend going elsewhere for your medical needs.

My experiments with UWI hospital was very unprofessional and bad. This staff at the hospital where oncaring and tortures they left me there with no food and no TV visitors are not allowed and when you go there for the first time they take you in a small room with no windows no ventilation no bathrooms they expect you just to sit there while doing a covid test. So I suggest you take your business elsewhere like Tony tweets wing on the same campus or Andrews hospital.

Worst hospital ever!Let's see they lack communication that is literally no communication at all in terms of getting a update on a family member. If you contracted covid consider that a death sentence nobody will walk out of this hospital alive. They lack resources to fight covid and very unprepared to fight the disease. I highly doubt these nurses are vent trained let alone would be able to take care of a critical patient. There aseptic technique is obviously missing because my loved had many infections and I could imagine the slackness in care he got. They say this is the best hospital, I doubt it if they sedate you and put you on ventilator just know you won't be coming off of it. Poor turn around and outcomes for patients. Go at your own risk!

1 star for the Drs and 1 particular nurse in A&E that have provider the service and support required and put us parents at ease in a difficult and worrying time. It has to be said that this is not the norm, the majority of nurses who I encountered were rude, lazy, unprofessional and downright disrespectful. I love visiting Jamacia and expect no special treatment whilst here from anyone. However if you are in a caring role and you clearly do not care it's time to leave and not treat patients and their families with not an ounce of respect and disdain. It seems like this culture of poor behaviour is the norm at this hospital and not challenged by senior staff or the administration. What a downright absolute shame and disgrace to the island's reputation. I don't feel confident my formal complaint (when I find out how to do this) will seriously considered and not looking for anyone to lose their jobs but something has to change- could never display this type of professionalism for example in the USA, UK Canada or the middle East so why should it be tolerated here?

One Thursday night in February my mom was contacted by our doctor that a CT scan result from Erin showed that my mom had clots in her lungs. We prayed and asked God to go before us and we rushed her to A&E at UHWI. I must commend the medical staff from nurses to doctor who acted quickly and took charge of her and gave her the best care possible. Special thanks to Dr Lee, Dr. Forbes, Dr Blackman and nurse Williams on ward 4. Forever grateful for your love and care. Hilma Well and family

I have been there here for a week. My colleague’s daughter is affected by Dengue and admitted for a week. First day we are irritated as it took too long to get a bed in children ward. Next day we got the bed and we are amazed with the service. Great service Nurses are too good Doctors are very friendly Clean and neat maintenance Very satisfied with the service and maintenance Also we didn’t pay a single penny once we got the admission as Government is taking the burden for Dengue affected people. Thanks 🙏🏻

He was well taken care of and I know all you came in contact with Mr, Dunston certainly missed his jovial spirit and sense of humour. To all the nurses who attented to him a big thank you and continue to give exemplary service. A big thank you and he was glad although sick that his short stay was well appreciated. Custome service is the worst, they have no number to call and follow up. The nurses are rude and only answer questions once you raised your voice. There is no transition briefing between staff and doctors. The bed is dirty, needles left all over the room for a blind person to accidentally touch. Pee was left on the floor uncleaned. It took 4 days to get a blood test and results. Nurses got angry because after 2 wks and asking for the status of my day without any satisfactory answer. I had to take my dad from the hospital because I was scared for his life. The use the same breathing mask without cleaning, his IV was left hanging with blood for days, and sometimes they would not give him food. He is blind an i would here the nurses telling him to open his eyes and do something. Until I went off on them before they put a sign up that said vision impaired. I would not recommend anyone to this facility.

OMG. Been here for 2 hrs now. The patient is cold and sick and they have him outside, in the cold sitting. Not even an offer of a blanket. Imagine he worked on their field hospital constructing it, and he is left outside now with no one seeming to care for his health... something as simple as placing him inside the waiting area, humane. Instead he is forced to sit outside bear the biohazard waste left here from before our arrival.

Their experimental approach to patient care is very risky, the trial and error approach especially with experimental drug on the patient shows lack or least Regards for other person's lives. I have had one (1) thorogh and honest interaction with a neurologist who was straight forward with me re the side effects of trial medicine which was administered to me without my family's knowledge who was by my side while I was not well and in the Accident and Emergency. My last visit with this hospital could have killed me because of experimental drug administered to me which have major negative side effects with the knowledge or permission from my family member.

I have found this to be the most affordable place for healthcare.

I have had several interactions with this place and none good!!!!!! Currently my brother is the to do an operation since early hours of the morning of December 26 2020. They told him his surgery would be done yesterday, today the day is almost out and still no communication as to why he hasn't had surgery or when he'll be doing it. If our family was well known or rich he would've been dealt with a long time ago. Why is it that the trying people of Jamaica get treated less than! Y'all need to up your game! Y'all only got a star because I couldn't post without giving a star cause y'all not even worth a half!!!!

This hospital has been a blessing to me and my family especially my mother and I will forever be grateful to all the staff members .All the doctors around ward 9 , the surgeons especially Dr.Plummer, the nurses from around ICU A ,the nurses/nurses on ward 2,9 and 4 and the nurse assistants , porters, security and cleaners. Also the doctors that work at the Gayno Clinic and the Emergency nurses and doctors around Accident and Emergency. Recently I accompanied my friend with her dad their and I must say that I am still pleased .I gave to big up Dr.O.sulivan and also Dr.McGhie for their kindness, patience and helpfulness toward my friend's dad.I will always be recommending this hospital to others.

I am a patient at this hospital, I have had good and bad experience, met two doctors in a particular clinic on different occassions who were so damn fiesty that I had to retaliate cause I am not a child and one out a order nurse that piss me off when I was admitted that a particular doctor had to calm me down and ask her not to come back to my bed a next morning but otherwise I had good experience away from the three bad apples this hospital have some very nice and down to earth Doctors who know them thing, Doctors who are respectful ,Doctors who you can put your life in their hands it also have some very nice nurses too there is so much to say but I will stop here I will rate this hospital a five star.

I see alot of 5 star reviews and it makes me wonder if some of these people have been payed off or something My experience was absolutely the worste Nurses and staff with attitude Doctors with attitude and absolutely no communication or interpersonal skills Atleast the place is clean and that's the least that I can say . Oh and the number for the hospital rarely ever works It's not the worste but it's definitely not the best .

UHWI is by far the most callous, distasteful and unpleasant health service experience I’ve had. I’ve literally spent 24 hours waiting for what can only be a figment of imagination at this point ( actual assistance ). The consultant told me he was waiting on results concerning my issue almost 12 hours ago and I’m yet to see this man atleast appear and find out what the problem is. Let’s not even get into the attitude or level of assistance from the nurses. If you’re not happy doing what you do , PLEASE LEAVE. This is not some restaurant. People are here because they are not well , the least you could do is be polite and helpful. I’m not convinced that if these people need a drink of water on the road , I will be helping them. Absolutely ridiculous ! Please , unless you absolutely HAVE TO , see this institution and walk straight pass it!

I am from India, I took my wife to this hospital, we went at 1 in the afternoon and at 8 in the night, our number was not available, we got bored and came back home. This is a bad and slow process. Do not come to this hospital
