It
was
early
evening
when
we
arrived
at
Gloria's
Seafood
Restaurant
in
the
Port
Royal
harbour
of
Kingston,
and
we
were
hit
by
a
busy
hive
of
activity
with
over
100
people
chatting,
eating,
drinking
in
a
friendly
social
environment;
ALL
of
whom
were
there
for
Gloria's
famous
seafood
cuisine.
There
were
approximately
80-100
people
seated
on
the
ground
floor
outside
area
and
another
60-80
seated
in
the
upstairs
rooftop
area
of
the
restaurant,
and
hardly
a
seat
spare;
so,
don't
be
surprised
should
you
find
yourselves
waiting
for
a
table.
But
it
is
well
worth
the
wait.
Set
in
modest
old
fashioned
rustic
décor
the
restaurant
is
authentic
and
staff
are
friendly
but
are
hurried
off
their
feet
due
to
the
high
customer
demand,
so
don't
be
offended
by
their
occasional
brashness
as
this
is
typical
of
Jamaican
culture.
They
mean
well.
The
menu
has
several
seafood
options
and
doesn't
overwhelm
with
an
overabundance
of
choice.
Their
prawn/shrimp
and
lobster
dishes
are
the
signature
offerings,
though
stewed
and
curried
fish
are
also
an
option.
Finish
your
order
with
a
side
of
rice,
bammy,
festival,
fries,
or
plantain
(they
sadly
run
out
of
plantain
on
my
visit).
For
your
beverage
I
recommend
one
of
the
more
traditional
options
such
as
Irish
cream,
Red
Stripe,
or
a
homemade
rum
punch.
Overall,
the
experience
was
five
stars.
A
fine
example
of
classic
Jamaican
&
Caribbean
seafood
cuisine.
Flavours
were
rich
and
full,
ingredients
were
fresh,
and
portions
filling.
I
delved
into
garlic
lobster
whilst
my
fellow
guests
chose
curried
prawns
and
curried
lobster,
for
which
curried
lobster
would
be
my
preferred
choice,
though
do
not
turn
your
nose
up
at
the
other
choices
which
were
excellent.
The
sides
of
bammy
(fried
cassava
flatbread)
and
festival
(fried
sweetened
dough)
were
hot
and
freshly
made,
which
is
key
to
their
flavour,
interior
texture,
and
crispy
exterior.
Being
of
full
Jamaican
heritage
I
am
very
familiar
with
Jamaican
and
Caribbean
cuisine,
and
I
must
say
a
very
well
done
to
the
chefs
at
Gloria's.
Highly
recommended,
and
a
truly
genuine
Jamaica
culinary
experience.
