Best beach to watch the sunset in the Kingston & Saint Andrew area. It’s free of cost and it’s clean. I absolutely have to return in day to see what’s the water like. But it’s easily one of my fav to visit.

Beautiful and relaxing, usually not crowded but if it is there is MILES of beach for you to occupy. You have a rent one the bamboo shelters which offers benches to sit and some have tables they usually charge $500jmd per hour.

By far one of my favorite places in Jamaica. This is a beautiful untouched black sand beach. Adorned with amazingly bright shades of blue water. The beach boasts approximately 2 miles end to end of coast. It is ideal for the nature lover, outdoor lover, explorer or photographer. Walking east down the coast takes you towards cliffs, with lovely cacti, washed up logs, rocks/stones of all sizes, sand dollars, sea glass and a variety of shells. While the water is rough, there is a small section suitable for swimming that you will see some of the local Rasta community utilizing. Which brings me to the point of the overwhelming friendliness of the people from the near by community. There is also food on sale, including vegan bites. All and all a great option for anyone living in nearby Kingston, who wants to enjoy some fresh ocean air without driving for over an hour.

First time - won't be the last. So close to town but not crowded. Grey sand with lots of river stones. Beach shoes recommended. You cannot walk across the beach bare footed - the sand is 🔥 Food was Nice! Fried fish, bammie and festival washed down with ice cold Red Stripe.

It's a great free beach, fairly private with a very relaxed vibe. It has a few facilities there if you need anything. The beach itself is a very long strip with a lot of cover from trees lining the edge with is great if you need shade. I've been there a couple of times and I've never had to worry about crowds or anything.

It’s a bit private (it’s off the beaten path). Amazing scenery, black sand and numerous opportunities for photos. However , it is hard to locate and once you leave the main road , the lane leading up to the actual beach is pretty rough, especially on low vehicles because it is unpaved and can be rocky. If you can find it .. it’s worth the effort.

Pretty good for what it is, as long as you understand what to expect. This is not the usual Jamaican sandy beach. This has small black pebbles and there isn't much in terms of shelter. However, if you come prepared with your stuff it should be an amazing experience. The water is a bit rough and the sand in the water is also hard. I recommend wearing water shoes, carrying one of those large umbrellas and folding chairs, as they want you to pay for a thatch shelter while there. Additionally carry your own food, the 2 stalls there are ok, but leaves a lot to be desired. But still try to support them if possible.

It is a beach. That much is true. Why it’s been named after arguably the most famous Jamaican is beyond me. It looked sad and unattractive. The road to it is super bad (see pics). Lots of construction which in turn causes dust clouds bigger than the 22 wheeler dump trucks creating it. I was excited from seeing videos online that say its black sand but it just looked grimy/dirty and not worth exploring in person. Def not worth the drive to get there. The water is a nice shade of blue, though pretty rough for most of the day as there’s a constant wind blowing island wide.

Great off the beaten path public beach. It's a south coast beach so it's darker sand but that's one unique thing about the sand in Jamaica. White sand on the north coast and darker sand to the south. It's never been crowded anytime I visited and there is a spot for made-to-order food (fresh fried and steamed fish, lobster any way you like it and whatever else might be in the day's catch.

I thought it was going to be a scanty rocky area but it was daily populated and had a great vibe. First south coast beach experience. Not as bad as I thought. However be wary of the sheds. Locals tend to try to impose a tax on users for parking and use of the sheds. Recommend to go in large groups.

It's clean, sea is a bit rough but you get proper exercise and get very tired can rest a lot when you get home. I saw people surfing, can train for swimming against the turbulent waves, the fish is awesome. There are also ice cold jelly. If you want to get some time away from prying eyes and drone flying, you can take a walk some distance away, but the stones do make for a rough walk so thread carefully.

Great Beach and hidden from the hustle and bustle of the City..one can enjoy a relaxing picnic with friends undisturbed...fish is usually sold on the weekend I was told, so I didn't get any today.

The beach is beautiful, breath taking, crystal clear waters and majestic waves. The beach is pretty well kept and the environment is nice. Excluding a rasta man selling who 'demanded' we pay him $500 for a make shift tatch hut! The day was good! Great place for kids and families. Just dont use the huts!

Great for picnicking, beautiful sunsets. Moderately calm water. Parking is good but not great, especially if it's a holiday weekend. Will return soon.

The beach area is welcoming also clean , I just think the community in which it's located need more development.

  • 3/5 Norcott G. 2 years ago on Google
Off the beaten path. To get to the the actual beach from the main road the road/track through the community is very bad. Persons charge for parking apparently, food and drinks are sold there, there are areas by the shore where you can sit however some of the benches are old and need repair. There's no lifeguard there but the black sand beach is welcomed break, no on harasses you there and the locals are easy to talk to.

First experience was in 2018. Black grainy sand and beach stones, it was torture walking on those hot sand and stones. There was no shade near the water and the sun was penetrating!Water was a little rough as it’s open sea, no reef, probably wasn’t a good time of year. Returned twice and it was the same. Fast forward to 2022 I decided to go back because after being in lockdown for two years my mental being needed some therapy and nothing better than ‘vitamin sea’ and be one with the Father ❤️ We found that some families in the rasta village there came together and erected a few shade-like cabanas from pieces of sticks and minimally covered with either reeds or thatch just to minimize the direct sun, it doesn’t stop the rain from pouring through though so expect everything to get soaked if it isn’t water proof. We appreciated the shade and willing to pay a small fee of $1000 for the day or $500 per hour for the convenience. Since early August I’ve been going every weekend and it has been lovely. The water sometimes feels heavy that when you come out and dry off, your body feels grainy from the salt drying on your body but after, your skin feels silky smooth. The weather will soon be changing again so I’m trying to get as much therapy as possible and wish that the beach remains peaceful… no soliciting or harassment and doesn’t become another Hellshire for that place has become horrible! Not the same as from my younger years. Sorry, I can’t recommend the food at this time, unfortunately from my first experience ordering wasn’t pleasant and doughy festival…nope! it’s a far cry from Hellshire’s cooking style so KFC it is, just pick up in Harbour View on your way out, although, warning that the service there is the pits! Them slow bad!!! Thanks to the residents of the beach community for keeping it clean also, as it’s their livelihood.

Gorgeous black sand and rock stone beach. There is delicious seafood for sale on site. The Rastas have made some cabanas on the beach that you can rent for less than $5. A wonderful experience, different from most Jamaican beaches.

The water was nice and strangely warm with fine grain sand. It's very beautiful once you get there and it wasn't crowded when we visited. There is a lady that does fish, festivals and plantains which is really good.

Amazing hidden gem! Watching the sunset here is such a breathtaking experience. The black sand beneath your feet massages them with every step. The water is just right! To top it all off, chances are it’s just you and your crew at this spot ❤️.

Beautiful beach, kinda hidden because you have to drive through a rasta community before reaching the beach. The location is not too far away from Kingston. Took me 30-40mins to get there without traffic. Great thing is that there is no entry fee and u can bring your own food. The locals are friendly and they don't bother you. The water was a little rough though, I got slapped and tossed around by the current on the shore but 10/10 would recommend. Can't wait to visit again.

Off the beaten path, not so hidden gem but worth the half hour drive from HWT. I went for a quick swim. It is going through so e changes, no more huts but shops and venders were out even at 8 am

The drive was certainly on rocky terrain (created by the local potholes) . Once arriving it is serene and breathtaking in its own simple way! ♡
