Look for lines when you go places in NOLA because that's where the good stuff is, and Mother's is no exception. The staff is lovely and efficient, the signature Bloodys are delicious, and the food is very good. Also there is nothing 'greasy spoon' about this place, despite that being in the descriptor. It's in a really cool industrial space that is both funky and a clear sign that their priorities are straight-- you spend the money on making good food and people will come. (And they do. We waited for nearly two hours for a table for brunch and regretted nothing. NOTHING.) Speaking of good food, if the sign says 'Best Baked Ham' and you like ham even a little bit, you really (really.) have to order the ham. Will never eat baked ham again unless it's from Mother's-- it's the most fork tender, juicy piece of ham I have ever had. Well worth the wait and will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu.

I visited New Orleans twice, in both times I visited this establishment. 1st time I was underwhelmed. the restaurant was crowded and the food was mediocre. I came with a party of four and all of us were disappointed with our meals. Being told that this was a staple in New Orleans. Two years later I decided to visit with my husband, thinking I may have judged them to harshly. This time I visited it wasn't as crowded but the food was less than mediocre. My husband said the chicken was dry and wasn't very tasty. My Po Boy was packed with meat but flavorless to say the least. And the mixture of hot and cold meats threw me off. My gumball was edible but uneventful. So disappointed, I truly believe that this place is over priced and overrated. The only thing good I have to say is that they have very nice service. The wait staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. Oh I enjoyed my fruit punch.

Hmmm where to begin with this one? The service and Mimosas are good. The food looks good but lacks seasoning. The grits are creamy but bland. Biscuits are fluffy. Catfish fried to perfection, but again the seasoning is lacking. Hot sauce should be an option, not a requirement for seasoning. Not sure if the food is always like this. Essence Fest weekend applied a significant amount of pressure on the local businesses.

They don’t need my stars because they have such an excellent reputation without Google. But, I want to give them all my stars. I’ve been in town three days and already been there twice- dinner and then lunch. Shrimp creole with grits was incredible. The Ralph- amazing. Buttermilk biscuits- out of this world. Don’t miss this restaurant- it is worth the line!! Oh, and try the bread pudding!!

This is just my personal preference but I’m not sure if this is my type of food. I probably ordered wrong too. The fried chicken was good. Juicy and hot. The ham was just okay. It looked more like a pork chop. I was a little disappointed because I saw some good looking ham going to the kitchen. I didnt have to wait long at all to order and was able to grab a seat inside. Seems like a lot of celebrities tend to eat here and it was recommended by a local. But again, just not my favorite type of food to eat.

Here's the short version: the service is excellent; The portions are gigantic; and some of the food is really good and some of it is rather average in my opinion and my experience of going to soul food restaurants for more than 50 years. If you're a soul food fan, and I mean a serious fan, there may be better options. But if your vacationing in New Orleans and looking for a plentiful meal that two could share, mothers is an excellent affordable option.

The food was great and the team was amazing. The ham was delicious and moist. The cheesy grits were very flavorful. The red beans and rice were spot on. I had the debris sandwich and it was AMAZING! They also have a homemade spicy vinegar concoction that really married well with the beef. Will definitely be back.

Making my rounds trying as much food as possible in The Big Easy. Mother’s restaurant was recommended by local friends of a chef we sat with on our flight. I had the Shrimp Creole and bread pudding. They were both delicious, although they didn’t photograph particularly well. Service was great and there was plenty of seating and little wait. My husband had the ham, but maintains, his is better. :-) He loved the green beans. A friend had the gumbo and she loved it. I have another place on my list to try the gumbo though. I am in foodie heaven!

We ordered takeout and it was ready on time the salads were delicious. They had sweet potato pie that we’ve been really looking for. Saved me the last brownie when we called. The line was out the door amazing. Nice folks working there as well. They can afford to use a little better plastic wire

Decided to eat local and help support a local diner than a corporation eatery. The atmosphere is amazing. Very clean and amazing decor. Loved looking at all the famous military officers and politicians. The staff was very laid back and friendly. He answered all of our food related questions. Decided to go with the combination dinner plate with crawfish,j home made jambalaya, red beans and rice, potato salad and green beans. Washed it all down with a local beer and I couldn't complain. The food was worth every penny. Will eat here again next trip hopefully.

10 out of 10 must try again. This place was delicious. We went for lunch one day during my conference and turned around and went back for dinner and lunch the next day. Food was delicious and the service was okay. We sat in the third room where the bar was and the nice gentleman ( Caucasian young man very tall) was very attentive despite being the only person working that section. He deserves a raise and a title change. If you're ever in New Orleans, please stop in and have a taste. Everything was delicious but the grill fish was seasoned by my ancestors and I loved it.

Mothers, what else is there to say! The wait was about 15 mins, but the line moved fast. This is a classic and has been around forever. The waitstaff is awesome, quick. I had the debris, I have never had a meaty sandwhich with mayo, and pickles. My girlfriend had the fried fish, oysters and shrimp, so crispy and great. Oh, I had the Cheesy, grits, great flavor, some of the best I've ever eaten. If your around, please check this out, my 2 cents.

Mother's is delicious!!! It's a cool, old school, restaurant with brick walls decorated with historical photos all over. I was told to try their po boys and I'm so glad I did. The shrimp is crispy and light. The French bread is soft and chewy and there is the perfect amount of condiments on the sandwich. Their cocktail sauce is delicious and their homemade hot sauce is to die for. The gumbo is amazing. I felt the spirit of New Orleans on this place. Go eat at Mother's.

I love New Orleans food. This is however the worst I have had. The famous ham what they're know for tasted like it was boiled definitely not baked. The jambalaya and pancakes however was very delicious. The front counter staff was very rude however our waiter was very pleasant.

Great dining experience. Our hostess was so super sweet and able to recommend menu items. The Malibu Margaritas were one of my top favorites along with the seafood gumbo. Will definitely recommend dining in again when in New Orleans.

Wow! Best sandwich that I've EVER had. If you go, get yourself a Ferdi, you won't regret it. Service was awesome, food was even better. I highly recommend this restaurant. Out of all the restaurants that I visited in New Orleans during my trip (which was a lot). This one, by far, was the best.

This is what the days of old feel like. Brings back so many memories of eating in a small town old diner. Such good food. The BISCUITS! HUGE with a dollop of butter on the side of the plate. Grits eggs and link sausage. Great prices and staff.

This was our first stop in town and it did not disappoint!! The line was out the door and it was well worth the wait! So much rice which I love and those grits were out of this world!! So glad we came here hopefully we’ll make it back before we leave. The catfish sandwich was perfect and the Bloody Mary wasn’t thick and a good amount of spice.

Not only is the hospitality warm, welcoming and friendly. The food is over the top delicious. Just can't pick one favor. Everything I put in my mouth was so scrumptious. Soft shell crab is a must. You definitely won't be disappointed if you eat here.

Everything was wonderful as usual. I actually went there twice this trip, 8 hours apart. For dinner, I had a double order of Dark Fried Chicken. It came with 4 sides. Double Red Beans, Cabbage and Potato Salad. For Breakfast I had the Early Bird Special. I like the new table service.

Loved this food... the service not so much but, Damien saved the day. I placed an order being from out of town and had walked about a mile each way to get my meal from here... they left off several items and my husband and I didn't notice till we sat down to eat. I Called Damien was so nice and friendly, he replaced the missing items fresh and without issue!

Pricey but I didn’t regret it. Not only was the food delicious (get yourself a biscuit just to try) but the service was great. Looks like a long line but it moves fast and those who waited on us were phenomenal. Five star experience for us.

The food was not great but okay. The cashier spilled lemonade all over me on my fist visit. No offering to clean my clothes. The next day because of Covid we had a carry out. We waited almost a hour for our food. Finally my wife asked what happened to our order, it was just sitting on the counter. There were other restaurants we went to. And the service was better.

One word...delicious. It was everything we hoped it would be, a restaurant with history and fantastic food, plus friendly service. We went with their famous Po Boy sandwiches, holy cow they are huge. Their ham, roast beef, and debris (which is like a roast) are melt in your mouth good. Try their potato salad, it's a smooth texture but packed with flavor. We also enjoyed their red cream ale. It's a must visit while in New Orleans.

I recently had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. I must say, the food was absolutely delightful. The dishes had a homemade quality to them, with flavors that reminded me of the delicious meals I enjoy in the comfort of my own home. The menu offered a variety of options, and everything I tried was delicious. From the hearty breakfast options to the comforting lunch specials, each bite was packed with flavor and made me feel right at home. The quality of the ingredients and the care put into the preparation truly shone through in every dish. While the restaurant is not an expensive restaurant, I did find the prices slightly higher than expected considering the overall experience. However, given the taste and quality of the food, I still found it to be a worthwhile dining experience. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. If you're looking for a satisfying and tasty meal, I would recommend giving this restaurant a try.

Mother’s is a New Orleans institution. Breakfast all day but a huge variety of comfort food too. It’s a little small and usually very busy but well worth it. The poboys are fabulous, especially the roast beef and debris. I’ve eaten here for many years and always a great meal. Definitely a place to try.

A down to earth gem of a restaurant, very efficient, best prices around, Staff so kind and food is delicious !! We ate here almost everyday of our trip. The seafood gumbo is delicious and the omelet and grits are very creamy. Well labeled menu for dietary restrictions. Vegetarian options are the breakfast options. No vegan options. Has gluten free options.

Quick walk from the riverfront hotel area. I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast; I had the early bird special which is available from 7-9am. At $8, it is a great value. The homemade biscuits are massive and very good. Line moved quickly, and there were plenty of tables available during that time.

We had a quick lunch bite here while in town for a conference. I was impressed with so many the gluten free options clearly marked on the menu. Our table sampled several things. The table agreed the jambalaya was our favorite. It’s worth a stop if you’re in the area and the line isn’t too long (though it does move quickly). There are plenty of extra tables in the back rooms.

As our first stop on our New Orleans Food Tour, Mother's Restaurant was a solid first stop. The line may be daunting but it moves quickly thanks to a gruff, but well organized, hostess who will not hesitate to put your in your place and direct you where you need to go. The restaurant is very tiny, so I recommend taking your order to go - food is well packaged and thanks to aforementioned hostess, you will get reminded to check your bag to ensure all items are in there. The food here is pretty good, although I'm not sure I would say it's terribly different than anything offered elsewhere in the quarter. The fried chicken is solid here, but other items, such as the Debris Po Boy and Shrimp Etouffee were only average. Because it was across the street from the hotel we were staying at, it was super convenient to run from the convention to get a quick meal and it was great that the restaurant is open until 10pm.

Mother's is a great lunch spot if you're looking for quick New Orleans traditional food. It was my last day in New Orleans and I wanted to enjoy food from a place that is well known for it's lunch but creole flavors. Mother's offers a lot and I promise you, you will not leave hungry. I a staple to the Big Easy be sure to try their famous ham and Po'Boy sandwich. You won't regret it.

Mothers is a foodie institution in NOLA. We had to queue to get in. The decor and atmosphere was authentic and made you feel like you were a part of history and culture. You have to visit at least once. Pancakes or biscuits or grits or all three! If you get a chance to have the peach pie, you won’t regret it.

Good food and an old time atmosphere. I ordered assorted veggies and my husband had a shimp porboy. He was disappointed that the bun was cold and took away from the taste of the sandwich. I felt overall, it was OK, but there are other places I would choose to go back to.

There is a reason that this restaurant always has a line and is always busy. Even though it seems like a fast food diner, the food is surprisingly tasty. I ordered the seafood extra extra. If you order that, you better like things fried. My catfish was good. My shrimp was decent. My oysters were wonderful. Unfortunately, the first time I went I ordered the greens. They are a little overcooked and a little too tangy. I also ordered the red beans and rice which was a little heavy on the rice and light on the beans. The second time, I ordered the cheese grits which were astoundingly good. And I ordered the green beans with tomatoes. A little different than I was expecting but still good. The gumbo was quite good, but the jambalaya was a little too dry. The bread pudding is so good you will want to order your weight in it.

Visiting New Orleans, came to this wonderful, out of the way, rustic looking restaurant and had our first "Po Boys ". Wow, they were awesome! Sweet wait staff, huge portions, had to bring some back to the hotel.

We are breakfast here on their first day of reopening. Nevertheless, the food was not good as far as flavor goes. My husband was completely unsatisfied and couldn't believe how bad the breakfast was, since we had heard so many great things. He said it was set up buffet style in the kitchen. Well, for me they get an A for effort; we appreciate restaurants at least being open to serve the public, but truth be told we could have just eaten in our hotel lobby down the street and saved our money.

Just had the most incredible dining experience at this gem of a restaurant! 😍 From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the rich history on display through the walls adorned with autographed celebrity photos. 🌟For my meal, I indulged in some seriously mouthwatering dishes! 🍽️ Starting with crayfish etife, which was an absolute delight - bursting with flavor and freshness. The red beans and rice had the perfect blend of spices, and the potato salad was a creamy dream! 🦞🍚🥔And dessert? Oh my, I couldn't resist the temptation of a giant blueberry muffin. Each bite was like a warm hug from the kitchen, filled with homemade love and comfort. 😋💙Despite a long line, the service was top-notch, and the wait moved surprisingly fast. 🏃‍♀️ The staff here are just as warm and inviting as the food, making this place an absolute must-visit. 🙌If you're looking for a culinary experience that combines rich history, incredible flavors, and a friendly atmosphere, this restaurant is a definite winner! 🌟🍴

Just visiting and looked up restaurants near me. Found this place with an interesting menu. Decided to try. Ordered the combo meal and fried catfish. Very good. I would definitely return. The service was excellent. Finished with a Pecan pie and brownie. Next time will try the gumbo and a cup of rice/beans. Enjoy!

I recently dined at Mother's Kitchen in New Orleans, intrigued by its unique service style. The process involves waiting first outside, then inside to place your order, and finally settling at a table where a server collects your receipt and starts preparing your food. While the system was efficient, the food experience did not match up. My order included pancakes with smoked sausage, a biscuit with raspberry preserves, a custom-made omelette, and ham with side vegetables. Regrettably, the pancakes and biscuit were both dry and lacked flavor. The raspberry preserves were disappointingly liquidy, detracting from the overall taste. The omelette, which I had hoped to customize with spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes, was mistakenly filled with sausage instead of tomatoes, compromising my preference for a vegetarian meal. Moreover, the eggs in the omelette were overcooked. On a brighter note, the ham was satisfactory, but the accompanying vegetables were bland and unremarkable. Overall, my experience at Mother's Kitchen was underwhelming. The food did not live up to my expectations, marred by dryness and flavor issues. Despite its efficient service method, the culinary missteps and order inaccuracies make me hesitant to return or recommend it. It's a spot that might suit those looking for basic fare in New Orleans, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

Mother's is as advised. Had the ham plate with green beans, potato salad and red beans/rice. The fried chicken is fantasic. It does take about 20 minutes as they cook to order. It's a must go to. Will definitely be returning. Go go go. You want have any regrets.

The food was just okay. We are from the South. I expected more seasoning on our meals. You order at the register and then find a table and they bring you your food. After that there was no more service. I will say the cashier was nice and the gentleman at the front door where we entered was very friendly. This meal was 38.xx

The best of local New Orleans cuisine! The Debris PoBoy sandwich is amazing. Don’t forget free refills on your fountain drink and often the server will get you a fresh soda - but if not you can always go to the counter. There is plenty of seating despite how small it looks when you walk in! There are two extra rooms for seating so don’t worry!

I ordered an omelet with ham, cheese, onions and peppers. The omelet was so good however, there was no ham in there. I brought it to my server attention and they brought me more than enough ham on the side. I really enjoyed my food, the breakfast came with a biscuit and homemade jam on the side. I’m not a biscuit fan but there’s were really tasty. I love how honey the restaurant feels with all the pictures on the wall.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but WOW! The food is fantastic! We came for dinner with three kids and everyone enjoyed their food. Definitely an institution in NO worth visiting! The food was good, but did not live up to the hype. I’m very glad we went and got to try it. The half sandwiches are HUGE! My wife got the ham plate which came with 3 sides that were more than enough for both of us. Go before you’re hungry because there will more than likely be a line. We only waited about 10 mins but I think we got there at the perfect time. Food came out hot and fresh.

So delicious! This was our first time visiting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend. The service was great. Finding a table was no problem. We enjoyed every part of our visit. Tried the early bird special, you get it fast, you get it their way. Good sausage, ok biscuit, precooked scrambled eggs, and just basic quick grits, plus a choice of coffee or OJ for $7. Season it up with a little butter, salt, pepper, and some house hot sauce, and you end up with a pretty good breakfast for the cost, especially considering what you typically see in the area.

Honestly, I used to love this place but I just can no longer feel good about recommending it to anyone. Literally every aspect of our experience was less-than-satisfying. From the moment we were "greeted" (girl making no attempt to even look in our direction using a monotone voice to ask "2?"), to the fact that we had 5 different employees wait on us, to the supremely disappointing quality of our food, this trip was a mess unfortunately.

A more local dive with good ol' home cooking. The rice and beans did not disappoint, especially when doused with crystals hot sauce (optional). The chicken gumbo was okay, I think seafood may be the way to go if you're craving gumbo.
