Parked a little far (2-hour free parking in residential area). It was raining, but the market was covered, so it was rather a pleasant experience. It was a really nice market with amazing handy crafts like marble, wooden and paintings, etc. I have got a few marble things as well as a beautiful hand-made dream catcher. It was absolutely worth visiting. You need to bargain as the price they tell might be higher.

Great historical shopping area dating back to 1791. It was originally a Native American trading post along the Mississippi River. It later evolved into a cultural and commercial hub as French and Spanish colonists opened the market up to ships and traders from all over the world. Currently the area is a good place to shop for wares from local artisans, food purveyors, souvenir stands. Up front are the food kiosks, in the middle the handicrafts, and toward the back are the souvenir ant t-shirt tables. If you pay attention and compare prices with the nearby brick and mortar shops, you can save some money on the same merchandise. Otherwise, if you are not aware of nearby prices, you can pay more than you should. All in all, worth at least browsing.

One of the oldest still running markets around. Was a really cool place to visit and glad that we found it while just riding scooters around town... Was a nice stop with cool unique feel to it. Lots of random stuff here for souvenirs etc... They also have stands with food and drinks, for sure stop by if in the area!

One of the oldest market places around- it’s a open market place with different artisans and cool stuff. It’s an absolute destination for souvenir shopping, product ranging from fridge magnet to cloths and tee shirts, jewelleries, artsy and fancy home decor etc. they have a few food stalls too. It’s very lively and spirited with hustles and bustles from shoppers and vendors. I love to visit and buy. The products are also not much expensive, mostly within budget. Highly recommended!

Came early in the morning, not a lot of food courts were open and the souvenir/gifts stands were just setting up. A lot of the stuff the merchants here have are potentially cheaper than the surrounding stores. Very interesting to walk and browse and sight see the different products everyone is selling here!

Went to NOLA for my Grandson's Boxing Match and the next day we went sightseeing and decided to go to the French Market and really enjoyed myself. I bought some nice souvenir T-Shirts for a Good price. I bought me 2 Sterling rings also a good price. They had so much cool art and clothes. A lot of cool jewelry. Great food and snacks. I most definitely go visit if you're in NOLA. I can't wait to go back!

I really enjoyed the French Market here. However many of the vendors closed and left SO early. We were able to get some T-shirts and other souvenirs for a lot cheaper than the stores

Good spot! Wasn’t too crowded (p.s it was a week day and most shops were packing up at 4:45pm) Variety of shops! I realized that souvenirs eg fridge markets were a lot cheaper here that at the stores. So you might want to check here first for souvenirs ! Also- found a few African stores ! Check those out too ! Definitely check out the French Market if it’s your first visit to New Orleans

Loved this mall along the river ! Lots of good snack options and great stores as well. One of the only malls where you can stop and get a drink at a bar or a famous Fat Tuesday daiquiri if you want and take them to go ! Only in Vegas and New Orleans!

The French Market provides a lot of options with its vendors. From jewelry, food to clothing. They also have great hand bags. Get there early to beat the rush and have a conversation with some of the vendors. They are approachable and polite!

I enjoyed walking around and looking at all of the fantastic pieces people were selling. There are clothes, jewelry, wood works, and cute little souvenir pieces. You definitely get a taste of NOLA culture walking through here. There’s plenty of food places to pick from as well, if you’re hungry. Alcohol seems to be freely available just about everywhere you go. There was live music available at some of the cafes and it was FANTASTIC. I will definitely return here if I come for a visit again.

Lovely outdoor market full of local merchants. This place offer you to buy sovinur, local new Orleans post cards, painting, local foods, fruits, and other seafood delights. You can have alligator fry, and others seafood. There is washroom. You will find this place in the heart of the New Orleans and will enjoy local activities. Incredible and exciting!!

Go to the FRENCH MARKET. It is a great place to get food, souvenirs, and something for yourself. I loved this spot. You will find some gifts cheaper than the other gift shops around town. I bought a few magnets of a mask with feathers that were so cute for only $2, and bought 10. I saw them at other gift shops down the street, $4.99 for one. The food and drinks we got were all good and the people were friendly. This place has years of history and I totally recommend making time to go here. I know I would definitely go back.

This place has everything! From souvenirs to great food, this is the place to be. They had lots of vendors and a great assortment of goods. There was also a public restroom; a commodity that is scarce in the French Quarter. Highly recommended place to shop.

We loved this little market on a break from the hop on hop off bus tour. There were all kind of local vendors and foods to be purchased here and we spent a long while meandering and out of the sun. It was still hot. 😉 Food vendors in the center to have all kinds of local foods too. Bought some pottery and craft made stuff here as souvenirs. It gets more like a flea market the further back you go, but nice for something to see and do for a few hours.

Large variety mostly clothing, souvenirs, and jewelry. Quite a few tequilarias that have products available only in Mexico. You must negotiate to get the best value.

Been coming here for years when visiting family. Steer clear of anyone betting they know where you got your shoes, its a scam. Jan 2022 the streets have a lot of homeless with dogs but don't bother anyone. But on occasion you'll encounter groups of drunks that hassle the tourists. Not a police officer around? Sorry to say but this has been going on prior to pandemic. Both about the drunks & police..

A lot of shopping opportunities that is for sure. From food to t-shirts, sunglasses, African fabrics and clothing you can find it there! Live jazz was playing that was enjoyable. The only thing I did not like was the price for parking. I guess if we had done some research we would not have paid such a hefty price for just under two hours of parking.

Good spot for gifts and souvenirs, and there are food stalls, too. We referred to it as the "French Market" and visited on a Sunday in December. I like that there are a lot of local, one-off vendors so it doesn't just feel like the same tourist trinkets are being peddled. It's worth walking through just to have a look, too. On our visit we also got several treats at Loretta's.

Many different cultures, lots of art, clothing, nig nag. Love just browsing through there and talking to people and their country and what brought them to New Orleans, and we all have this one thing in common you visit New Orleans one time you just want to stay long ❤️

There were quite a bit of people, it felt like a perfect tourist trap. Music were loud, perhaps it was my mood this day. I wanted to enjoy jazz and southern comfort of being in a Dixieland... not so much. Hence 4 stars. I think there is a potential for 5 stars.

This is a pretty cool little walking shop. There are so many little shops that are great for souvenirs. There is a nice candy shop on the end farthest away from the French Quarter, which has some great choices if you have a sweet tooth. I also loved the Gazebo Cafe, which was also down on the far end. They offered daiquiri made with ice cream (the banana and strawberry were very tasty). There are also some nice farmer's market style shops in the French market. Overall, I definitely recommend it for a nice leisure stoll through the quarter.

Nice cheaper place to buy souvenirs. Safe area as it's patrolled regularly by the police. Lots of food vendors to grab some good eats from. Hit this place up before you spend too much everywhere else in the French Quarter. There are plenty of great restaurants to eat within .3 miles.

Th French Market is the New Orleans outdoor flea market packed with swap shops and trinkets from local and traveling artisans. Row after row of the same type of stuff made by different folks willing to bargain. It’s certainly the type of place where you keep checking your wallet and wondering where they put all this stuff at the end of the day. Lots of clothing, hats, jewelry and alligator heads. It honestly would have been better for me if I wasn’t constantly checking in on my kids. I still wouldn’t have purchased anything but it would have been less stressful for me but not enough for a fifth star.

Maybe I came on an off day, but the French Market was very bland to me. Most of the vendors were very "tourist trap" style, instead of a typical farmers market or flea market. I really didn't find anything there of interest. If you are looking for souvenirs, then I'm sure you could find something! The food vendors did look and smell great though! Several local shops, including the famous Cafe Du Monde in the greater complex.

  • 4/5 Samantha D. 9 months ago on Google
The shops are clean and full of authentic Louisiana souvenirs. it is a fun place where the past meet the present. If someone is looking for cool little souvenirs that is the place to go. Do not forget to bargain!

This was a great market that was in walking distance of the hotel. When you first walk in through this entrance stop by the first stall to the right and grab the lemonade which is so delicious and right next to them there is a wonderful plant lady with amazing plants for a great price. These shops in here have a great variety of items like hand crafted goods, art, clothing, jewelry and etc.

It’s a nice spot to hangout and do some shopping as your like. I got fridge magnet from here which were really unique, and a pair of earrings ( supposedly sterling silver). It’s quite lively and nice spot for local vendors.

It was a fun tourist experience to shop for souvenirs. A number of trinkets are severely overpriced but we were able to find some t-shirts and other items to stuff in the suitcase. The strawberry lemondae snowball was sooooo good. There is a Loretta's located here!!! We're planning on going to the other location before leaving NOLA but the treats smelled so yummy.

Great selection of food, beverage, and craft vendors. You get a little bit of everything from apparel to jewelry to hand crafter goods to trinkets, books, music, spices... From all walks of life and not just new Orleans based.

It's fun to be here. Don't expect southern hospitality here but shopkeepers are doing just ok. Could have more tables for drinks not for resting.

This was my first time at the French Market and it was amaking. All the vendors were selling so many different things. I didn't get to take as many pictures because I was looking at all the different art work and shopping. It was a great experience and everyone was so nice.

I lived in the French quarter for almost 7 years. It was amazing. They're is something about New Orleans that makes you feel like home as soon as you see the streets. It had a hold on me like I legit couldn't spend q2 hours away from the city bc my anxiety would get super put of control like shaking. Then as soon as I see the city streets, I'm cured. I'm sad I'm going to miss the quarter in October. There's this vibe, and glow to the quarter even in the dead of night. It's so beautiful. As far as the French Market, they have some pretty cool stuff. You almost feel like you're in a flea market or antiques store. It's also very diverse as far as their products. One is not like the other.

If you visit New Orleans, you must come to the oldest market of its kind in the United States! This is a fun little market to walk around and explore. We were able to find a few souvenirs to take home to Oklahoma. My son was happy with his alligator! Be sure to ask for discounts. We also ate at the market, the food was good but a bit over priced. Over all we had a fun afternoon listening to live jazz and learning about the culture. Follow me on IG for more @Marianto15 💖
