The Degas House was an amazing find! The history of the building itself is amazing but the care and service the staff has is truly astonishing! They truly care about their guests and the weddings that place there!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We booked the Degas House for our wedding. I wish I didn't. Termites in the rooms, ran out of alcohol and beer half way through the reception, Kathy (the wedding planner) was extremely rude and not accommodating. One of guests got stung by a bee because there was a huge nest outside one of the main entrance doors. Could not get in contact with David (the owner) because Kathy was being the gate keeper and would not pass along any of our messages or connect him to us, when trying to make a complaint. They made my wedding hell and I wish they would own up to how terrible there service was. DO NOT BOOK HERE!

I recently hired the Degas House as the wedding venue and overnight accommodations for my small wedding party and guests. It was a terrible experience. I have made several attempts to contact the owner, David Villirubia since I originally voiced my complaints directly to him to have him address issues. I did not wish to post his on social media, but they have had the audacity to harass the bride and request a positive review. He has not returned my email or calls since that original conversation. That is a horrible business practice. They were happy to take my money and then ghost me.My wedding guests and I truly believe all those positive reviews are fake. This place is a joke. They over-promise and under deliver. None of us have ever been to much less hosted a wedding reception of such poor quality. I paid for 100 guests and only had 85 actually attend. We should have never been locked out of bathroom amenities during cocktail hour nor run out of food, drink, or coffee midway through reception. One guest with prepaid reservations was not even on the books & had to be housed in a small attic room. Shame on you Degas House!

Living in New Orleans we do not get as many chances as I would like to stay in the beautiful homes in the area. We have not stayed here so my review is on the outside of the Degas House. We found the exterior to be lovely and the grounds are well kept. The home is located in a beautiful area of town and a great neighborhood. I would love to arrange a tour of the home and will expand my review if I can.

Stayed here with my wife and we absolutely loved it. One of the best bed and breakfasts in New Orleans, for sure. Super comfortable bed and room, the breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. If you’re looking for a place to stay in New Orleans I would highly recommend the Degas House.

This is my second visit but first stay. My favorite part of the venue isn’t the gorgeous grounds or awesome New Orleans vibe/ it’s the above and beyond southern hospitality. David and his staff are amazing! They truly care about what they do and their guests!! We can’t wait to be back!!

Tried to go to the degas house when I got a city pass and was instructed to call. All I got when I called 3 different times was “call you back later” Never got a call back later Was super annoyed by this and seems a great way to get out of a partnership deal.

The French impressionist painter Edgar Degas lived here in 1872 to 1873. Part of the significant French legacy in New Orleans, Edgar Degas had relatives in New Orleans. The portrait of his practically blind cousin Estelle Musson Degas is in the New Orleans Museum of Art. Take a tour of the Degas House if you can.

We stayed in the Jeanne Garret Room, the house itself is a beautiful building, the room however.... the bathroom has had it's best time, so bad that one of the little tiles on the floor kept sticking on my foot when exiting the bathroom. When I wanted to take a shower, I almost lost my balance because the whole bathtub was loose. The airco was no luxury with the tempreratures at the time off our stay but we couldn't sleep from the racket the airco made. We where there for two nights, after the second night we had no breakfast, we were the only people in the house and the office was closed because it was Sunday, nobody there to help us out. We did make a mistake to not try to adress the manager by phone but we were on a tight shedule. That room didn't enhaced our experience of New Orleans at all. The location however is great.

The Degas House is an absolutely gorgeous historic home in the New Orleans French Quarter💕 a group of wedding venue owners came to NOLA & David & his team provided the most incredible hospitality from greeting our group with umbrellas at the street during a downpour to spoiling our group with cocktails & delicious cuisine prepared in house. Degas House staff shared the rich history of the home, we were delighted to meet a Degas descendant working with the venue. David was eager to share recommendations on places we should visit and stories of New Orleans. Thank you to David and his team who made our visit absolutely unforgettable!!! I highly recommend The Degas house for your overnight accommodations, dining, weddings & special events. The courtyard is gorgeous as are the grounds and interior decor 🍾🥂

Our room on the 3rd floor had no windows and a loud air conditioning unit. The mattress was rock hard, nearly like sleeping on a floor. The TV was at the foot of the bed on a ledge and viewing was blocked by the foot board. We had to move the desk over then place the TV on the desk. There was a refrigerator in the room w a bottle of chardonnay, which was nice but this did not help sleeping. For $190/night I’d expected at least a window and a comfortable bed.

We took the tour of the Degas property. Very interesting! Who knew Edgar was Creole on his mothers side, and spent 4 months here in 1872-3 painting amazing family portraits, and deciding where next (artistically) he wanted to take his work. Plus the tour was given by one of his descendants - Joanie was very knowledgeable, insightful and humble.

Fantastic place to have a wedding or event. Everything turned out beautiful for my friends wedding. The owner, David, was so kind and welcoming. Beautiful place, and amazing service. The staff was awesome, and I will definitely recommend it.

This is a historic space that I've attended events at and it also operates as a bed and breakfast. The noted French artist, Edgar Degas, lived here and produced some of his art here completing 18 paintings and 4 drawings before moving back to Paris. This is the only remaining home and studio of Degas who lived here for only five months when he stayed here with his mother's family during 1872 to 1873. It is a nice space for an event and it looks like it would also be an interesting place to stay at if you wanted a bed and breakfast experience. Overall this is certainly a nice spot to visit if you're in the area.

If you'd rather enjoy a quieter side of town, this is the spot. It's a very well cared for gorgeous home built in the 1800s with some room options that include a private balcony & even a kitchen. We received complimentary breakfast served fresh daily & the option of mimosas or bloody Mary's. And of course, coffee & tea available. The staff was amazing, they made us feel at home. Big shout out to Ms. Dee, Sharon Parker & Mathew Rhodes for your great service. Hope to stay there again on our next trip to NOLA.

Ample parking, historical venue, quaint and charming building! We had the pleasure of DJing and completed a Wedding Videography package at Degas House for Jesse & Jessica October 2023 and it was a blast! There was a little issue with the string lights near the dance floor but we had some uplights that helped remedy the situation. Pennywell Events decorated perfectly and dressed up Degas House outdoor area so well. The ceremony and reception were a hit. One improvement to the ceremony area outdoors, in the future, is to turn off the camera chirp/alarm. Otherwise, it was beautiful, peaceful and a very celebratory evening. We look forward to many more events later this year.

We did the walking tour, which included a video, house walkthrough and then short walk through the nearby neighborhood. It was interesting to learn about Degas’ time in New Orleans, about the home and area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was a great host.

This tour is pretty interesting. Mrs. Liz was my tour guide and I was the only person there. They generally have larger groups. What I didn’t like is you are not allowed to take photos. There are no original Degas paintings on site and the 2 houses that were once 1 are still being renovated. They split the house in 1920. The tour lasted an hour which was plenty for me. I’m sure if a large group and questions then it would be The trees in front of homes were planted in 1820. Edgar Degas visited for 4 or 5 months from starting late 1872. Seems he really didn’t like the heat and never had anything good to say about NOLA. But it’s where he started painting ‘Impressionism’ but he said he was a ‘realist’! Seems Degas never really appreciated NOLA although he had his breakthrough there. He also wrote about the many skins colors in NOLA but only painted Caucasian’s. Maybe because his mothers blood line had African descendants… His uncle was renting the house (1869-1879) never owned it. When Degas visited there were 18 people living there. The story is filled with family drama. His brother Rene’ married his first cousin on mom side which I guess this was their way! When he left her for the neighbor this split the 2 families. The tour included a parlor which is now a dining area for brunch and the actual dining room. We also toured the room where he stayed in while visiting. I read about DeGas so most of the information I already knew. There is a 30 minute film shown before tour. I recommend touring this house if in area. The cost is $30 but they give senior/military discount. I paid $26. You can also stay at house. The Le Musee museum is almost next to it and I highly recommend this tour because it’s outstanding!!

Historic landmark with well kept grounds and a beautiful interior. Five stars if I didn't feel so exposed to crime when I visited.

Stayed in 2021 and it was possibly the worst stateside accomodations I've ever stayed in. We were "upgraded" to a suite but we were still charged the additional amount for the unrequested room change. Suite had NOT been fully cleaned. There were dirty dishes in the sink and debris in the tub. Kitchen in the suite had a window with a pane of glass missing. To top it off, no staff showed up in the morning to prepare the included breakfast. Tried calling the manager and owner, waited two hours and no one ever responded. Sent follow up email to owner about the stay but never got a reply.

Wanted to visit as a big fan of Degas, totally disappointed that there were no tours or anybody willing to let me in or explain or any art to see in the middle of the weekday. Street parking. Don't go waste your time.

Joanie is an excellent docent and guide. She is a direct dependent of Edgar Degas, and the tour is highly recommended.

We stayed at Degas house for our anniversary. Staying there was like stepping back in time. We stayed in the Josephine room and sitting out on the balcony in the evening became one of the highlights in our stay. It is not in the Quarter which was why we picked it but getting to the Quarter was just a few minutes by car. There were delicious restaurants just minutes away.

Absolutely delightful! We came with our 23-month old, and our lovely tour guide catered our tour to our needs. As you can imagine, an almost 2-year old doesn't want to stand around and talk about art! But we had a wonderful time, and would definitely return!

Mrs. Terri and Sharon were very hospitable. They did everything from seating us, to waitressing, to cooking. They even stayed late to make sure we had a good experience. The food was excellent. Definitely a go back!

I had made reservations on the computer. I was unable to send the confirmation email back so I immediately called and spoke with them. They stated it was no problem if I could give them the 3 digit number on the back of my card. I was able to and I asked what to do about the email she responded stating I didn’t need to do anything to just bring the confirmation when I came the day of my reservations. I received a call today from a Kathy. I called her back immediately. When I did she informed me my reservations had been canceled because she had sent me 3 emails. She in fact had only sent me one and it was the original one. She had a horrible customer service attitude and I chose to not reschedule our reservations due to they obviously don’t know what the other person is doing and I can’t imagine staying somewhere and being talked down to like I was with Kathy. She was rude!!! Looks to be a beautiful place but I don’t want to stay where I am treated so badly. Def a 0 stars!!!!!!

This is the home of Degas when he lived in New Orleans. You won't find any original art but you will find some interesting artifacts. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and provided a lot of fun facts. The original house was actually split into two separate properties and the tour includes both of them. We had a great time and would recommend the tour to everyone.

Nice people but I wouldn’t stay here again. It’s like the other guest are staying in your room with you as the walls and doors are super thin and not insulated. You can hear every word spoken. But it is an old house with joining bedrooms so that’s to be expected. It would have been nice to know there was a wedding in the house on our last night. I was hoping to get to sleep early and hit the road early in the morning. But it is NOLA so I suppose that’s to be expected as well. If you don’t mind being awake most the time - go for it. It is NOLA!
