We love this quirky little tourist trap! Don't overlook a unique experience of locals selling things in booths within the market. They all sell a lot of the same thing, but their sales approaches vary from heavy-handed discounts "just for you my friend," to pleas to buy something to humble craftsmen selling their wares. If you look hard enough, you will find things made locally, and if you are really lucky, you'll find someone who had a hand in making or decorating your souvenirs. Cousin Janice stitched the design on our straw baskets, and while we were there, stitched our granddaughter's names on the baskets. Reggie was painting tiles when we visited his booth & we bought some pretty handpainted tiles and a beautiful lighthouse painting that he painted. When we paid him for our 7 items, he graciously told us we had made his day. We found Sara who was so fun to barter with when we bought a hat and dress (we paid her full price anyway just to see her smile light up the market). Meeting & really talking to the locals was as fun as buying neat mementos & gifts for our trip. We had a great time at the Straw Market!

Similar to Flea Market in the United States. All the vendors have similar items but some have unique also. Bargain Bargain Bargain - i would definitely recommended and they are fine with it. Want to support local families, then this is the place to go. If you look hard enough, you will find things made locally, and if you are really lucky, you'll find someone who had a hand in making or decorating your souvenirs. They stitch designs on the straw baskets or stitch your names on the baskets. A definite must see when you go to Nassau Bahamas.

Quite honestly, the older I get the more I want to help the less fortunate and that is a mistake here. Everyone that is a seller will feed you any story to take the money from your hands and into their pockets. After buying my trinkets I walked into a store and found most of the items at a discounted price. I justified my purchases at the straw market as helping out the locals but if you want to pay less and not haggle, head down the street.

Not bad at all I really loved bargaining with the locals you really have to have a drive to think a little bit differently and negotiate your price. I loved getting an angelfish sculpture from one of the local vendors it’s absolutely beautiful. You will get talk to you every couple of seconds but you just have to tell them no thank you and move on. Do you know anything that happened was that there were breeding vendors outside one of them want me to walk to another street and I thought that was a little bit shady and charge 3x the price so just watch out for those sellers . I found the best bet for hair braiding to be at the cruise port area of Nassau where I just negotiated the price down. Don’t be afraid to negotiate :)

There was a lot here to be sure but it was so over crowded and the people were incredibly pushy and if you said no thank you they would treat you rather rude. God forbid you don't bring cash and only have card too. I ended up leaving the market and just going into the actual port owned gift shops.

Soooo many vendors... Make sure you have cash, you'll get better deals, I actually used both, but when I did withdraw cash from the (1) ATM machine cost $7 for transaction fee... i spent a little over $100 buying souvenirs from hand made dolls, shot glasses, and refrigerator magnets and a few toddler TShirts .. this market was definitely on my To Go To List in Nassau

The locals showed me a shop where I could get knock off designer purses and I loved all of them! I was totally lost since my GPS wasn’t working and I got escorted by the nicest local bohemian and they showed me everywhere I wanted to go and see! And then they brough be back to Harborside across the way to paradise island!

Great buys if you learn how to haggle and not that yourself get stuck at the first booth. Don't ever let anyone lead you to a booth.

Love the straw market , I think everyone should stop in and give it a try I enjoy seeing and meeting all the venders , it’s what we would call an updated flea market in the states , a lot of people have similar things but a lot have unique and different things also , negotiations are definitely recommended and totally ok , I was advised by all the locals to do so , they are hustlers and they will try to sell you everything that’s what they are there for don’t let that shy you away , I rather support local families 100 percent of the time then go to any other commercial shopping

Wonderful place to visit as a tourist. Came here as part of our cruise day trip to Nassau. So many stalls to visit and have a look at the wonderful trinkets and souvenirs. They have clothes, cutlery, hats, food to fake designer bags. It’s a very vibrant and busy atmosphere. Music plays and people are talking and trying to get your attention for they’re shops. Loved haggling with the vendors as they loved it too. Nice to have a laugh and joke while shopping. The locals were very welcoming and wanted us to visit their shops. Some were unfazed by all the tourists but mostly they all were eager to get a sale without being pushy. It’s a very crowded place so best to keep your valuables close to you. Pickpockets could be in the area as it’s full of tourists off the cruise ships.

The usual port markets, a little overpriced but still fun. The new port is awesome and the shops all clean with security. Senor Frogs always fun. View from table in Senor Frogs!

Why would you come to Nassau without going to the authentic style market and supporting the local economy? Look at all these unique things that we bought. Make sure you don’t accept the first offer and go to multiple vendors if you see something that you like because you will likely get it cheaper if you continue to walk through the market, especially towards the middle, where people never make it because there are so many vendors.

Maybe I am a little biased but I love these places and had a great time here. I did not buy anything but just looking around at all of the cool little things was a lot of fun. There is slightly more variety here than compared to other markets in terms of products sold here. Also make sure to bargain bargain bargain!

So many vendors, so many handmade items and trendy tourist gifts. Easy to negotiate and currency is equal penny for penny to USD.

If anyone comes up and trys to put a braclet on you hand it is a Scam the do no't have 4 handicap kids and thats the only way they get to go to school. 95% of everything there comes from chain you have to walk all the way down to the OG Strawmarket, if they do not hand customeize it for you it is fake or a scam, Do not fall for it!

Definitely a trap for tourists one even had the NERVE to touch me to get me to go jet skiing etc. 👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿 That was a STRONG NO due to how aggressive they were. Over priced named brand items that are YEARS old that even look different as a knock offs I appreciate how I witnessed a woman making straw hats and other novelty items to sell the hustle in the humidity AMAZING

This was kinda cool. There wasn't anything really unique about it. Most vendors had very similar stuff...tourist clothing, cheap jewelry, wooden trinkets, that kind of stuff. The prices weren't that great, even after haggling down from asking price. Some vendors were VERY pushy and aggressive, but others would let you shop without talking to you. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back, but also don't regret it.

The exterior of this place seemed to stand tall and looked like a mystery. I walked inside here with my significant other not knowing what I might purchase. I ended up walking around for a little bit before committing to anything. It seemed that most vendors had similar items for sale. I didn’t come with much cash to spend, so I ended up only purchasing a small zipper pouch for $5. The United States Of America currency was what I was charged by the vendor, so that was convenient. I didn’t want to leave with nothing, so I figured something small and made out of straw would be ideal! This place was rather clean, so that was a plus! The vendors were pushy, but I figured they would be. I’d say that was part of the experience! Overall, I enjoyed walking around in here. If I’m in Nassau again, I’m almost positive I’ll return here. Date of visit: Nov 28, 2023

The love the colorful building that was created for self-employed vendors. It's very crowded with vendors and most selling the same items, so you get hustle for the best price and bargain. I purchased a hat and backpack from two vendors.

It's a fun place to go, just be ready for a lot of people trying to get you in to see their "shop" inside. People took no for your answer though without a lot of pressure or attitude and for the most part everyone was very nice and didn't follow you around. There is an overwhelming amount of stuff piled skillfully up in each person's section. I did notice a lot of people making deals and taking money for other people's "shops" and the shop owners were fully aware so I'm guessing either they all help each other out or they are related or something. Over all it was a fun experience and within walking distance from the cruise ship port, just across the road from the newer shops on the pier. Definitely gives you a better taste of the real Nassau.

An excellent variety of clothes souvenirs & handcrafted items. Expect to pay a slight premium to support an island economy. Feel free to haggle in the market stalls it's expected and part of the adventure. In the shops fixed prices are on all stock and they are much less inclined to haggle on prices like the market. Sellers are warm and friendly, not "in your face full on" but they are competing for your trade with other stallholders with similar goods which can be an advantage for the customer
