Beautiful waterfall with multiple observations decks The waterfall is quite a walk from the station / parking lots through multiple bridges, stairs, and uneven paths - therefore not recommended for those with difficulty walking. While the waterfall is certainly pretty it can be difficult to get an unobstructed view. The area is crawling with tourists and dense foliage builds up. No tickets required for entry.

From station to just 600 m walk when you reach the main interest point take left then beautiful walk with the river. Use you cross to suspension Bridge it’s a very beautiful location in water fall. Water is very high and I enjoy lots. There is so many shops you can buy food drinks and fruits but little bit expensive from the main market.

Wonderful waterfall. It’s about 600m walking from visitor center. The trail is so stunning and we got to cross 2 suspension bridge. There are various spots to enjoy the waterfall that offer different view. Next to the waterfall is a row of shop selling souvenirs and taiwan traditional food.

It's okay, if there's something you can skip in Taiwan then it's this waterfall. Don't get me wrong, it's nice but really nothing special if you've seen other waterfalls. It's hard to get there, so you'll need a car or as we did with a guided tour. It was still quite busy, even tho it was already after the main season when we were there!

Gorgeous waterfall with multiple streams that's easily reachable by car or bus from Taipei City. What is best and done very well is the accessibility of wheelchair. They built a very nice no car allowed path and ramp to the waterfall. It was so wonderful to be able to bring my father to enjoy the nature without worrying about whether it'd be accessible by wheelchair, including a spacious public washroom. Great job done by whoever developed this place!

The widest waterfall in Taiwan with a trail designed for tour all around the waterfall. Just follow the waterfall trail and you can see different view of it, beware that some places is a bit wet. The waterfall trail is short (around 20 minutes) and it’s worth visit. We came during weekend and there’s a lot of people around! Nearby you can find some vendors and also restrooms, friendly tour place but not really close to nature.

It’s beautiful and quiet place now a days. We can hear musical sounds of the water fall and birds 🐦. It’s difficult to find vegetarian food in Shifen market but there is Family Mart is available so it’s also easy to find some vegetarian food.

There are two hanging cable stayed bridges in the area and a waterfall that is in the shape of a horseshoe and as such resembles the shape of Niagara Falls. Not too large but a nice walk in the forested area to take pictures next to the waterfalls. Some vendors along the way selling ice cream, fruits, coffee etc. The short trail itself is well maintained and neat and clean. It is free as well.

This is my personal favorite and definitely one for the books! There’s so much stairs you need to take but every single step is worth it. I considering this the most exhilarating experiences in Taiwan and the waterfall is just nothing short of gorgeous! For the best pictures and videos, go all the way down. You can almost taste the water on this point as well as the energy from this mighty waterfall!

Nice place for a pit stop before heading to Shifen old street. There are 2 highlights of this place i.e. the suspension bridge and the waterfall. The walk is quite a distance from the carpark. Hence, those with difficulties in walking may face challenges. The suspension bridge was quite wobbly and there were no indication of how many people it can take at one go which was a bit of a concern. The waterfall itself was pretty. Once one gets adequate camera shots of the waterfall, there is the need to walk out again the same way as one entered.

Beautiful waterfall park and trail with some eateries and friendly dog, lovely horse monuments and you could see the train trail behind. Stepping into the beautiful nature after crossing the bridge into an emerald river turning into a wedding trail waterfall, magical and windy!!

Nothing of a big deal if you have been to those massive waterfalls in different parts of the world. But i guess it would be something you will do if u are just hanging around in Taipei? A good walk… Love the sound of waterfall as always. There is no ticket to enter this place as well.

Gorgeous waterfall but can get very crowded as Shifen is very popular. From the entrance, it is a good 20min walk to the waterfall, especially with the crowds. Once you arrive there is a little observation deck, packed with people. Pro tip: walk another 10min up the "nature walk trail" and you'll have the place to yourself with beautiful views of the waterfall. The place is free to visit.

A beautiful place to visit for those who love being close to nature. We took an exciting bus ride to Shifen that took us about an hour. When we arrived there, we enjoyed exploring the area. It was quite convenient because there are well-placed boarwalks and steps that are very tourist-friendly. We had our lunch at a nice little cafe along those trails before reaching the waterfall area. The waterfall is a stunning view, we appreciated the fact that there are various view decks at different spots in the area to offer different viewpoints.

Firstly this place is very near Shifen’s old street. We arrived here right before the tourist center open and we could feel the excruciating heat in the morning. However, the kids were so excited to finally see the waterfall. They have been staying at home for the past 3 months due to level 3 implemented in Taipei. There are many parking lots available here. If you plan to park more than 3 hours then I would recommend you get those private parking areas that cost NTD100. If you only plan to stay for a short while then go for the one right in front of the tourist center, NTD40/ hour on weekends and NTD30/ hour on weekdays. The trail to the waterfall was really fun where we got to cross 2 suspension bridge and in between those bridges there is the railway track where we can see the TRA trains zooming by. After about 15-20 minutes walk, you will arrive at a row of shops selling souvenirs and food and the waterfall will be right in front. Splendid view and you can feel the serene surrounding. You are not allowed to have food here so most people will just sit around to enjoy the sound which was rather pleasant. Managed to clock 5000 steps for the entire trip which was great.

Plan on coming? The waterfall is so beautiful to look at it, its not a long walks, around 20-35 minutes from the train station depending on your speeds and if you stop for something. You may also rent motorcycle from to go over. The food stall near is nice but slightly over-price, same goes for the beverage price! Do buy the Ping-Xi Line one-day Pass to enjoy the fullest!

This waterfall is one of the biggest ones in Taiwan. The gov. made a 2 or 3-floor high walking trail around it You don’t have to worry about people spending so long taking their photos or standing in your way. You see different views from different angles.

Amazing waterfalls. Fairly easy to get to by bus and a short walk. Well worth checking out. You can also light lanterns nearby which is a local tradition done on the train tracks near the station.

A beautiful waterfall with lots of tourists even on weekdays. There were some food options too. There is a small walking trail with stairs to take good photos. The trails are not slippery despite the fact there is constant vapour and water from waterfall sprays onto it. When the sun comes out, you might have a chance for rainbow. A bit overrated with too much tourists. A bit hard to get a chance to take a photo by yourself with full of people on the stairs and trails.

This is one of the waterfalls that is not too big but quite interesting, beautiful and there are many food stalls along the path to the waterfall. We both went sightseeing, enjoyed the fresh air, and heard the story of this place many years ago. A very enjoyable experience.

Beautiful waterfall. One of many in the area, but the only one I had the chance to see this trip. Depending on when you go, there are some smaller falls to see along the trail to the main falls. Nice scenic walk to and from the falls on a scenic 4.2 km out-and-back trail (rated easy). If you have AllTrails on your smartphone you can find numerous other trails of varying degree of difficulty in the area. Very popular and can be busy, especially on the weekend. We went mid-week at the end of November and found it easy to navigate the (lighter) crowds but not much chance for solitude. One note. If you are considering releasing a lantern from the railway station in Shifen (you will have numerous hawkers trying to encourage you to do so), please wait until after you explore Shifen Waterfalls and the trails around it. You may want to reconsider as you will see the environmental pollution this causes to the beautiful surroundings.

Stunning waterfall but surrounding recreated for a tourist trap concentration (close to transport allows it). Releasing all those sky lantern was not just cringe but also leaves ecological question mark. Around in hills are hidden much more beautiful waterfalls.

The waterfall is not very high, but it's wide. Still very nice to see. We took about 1 hour from getting off the train at Shifen station to the waterfall. We took photos here and there along the way and it was really crowded, especially at the station/old street where everyone is releasing lanterns. I'd recommend going to Shifen in the morning if you're going to see the waterfall. After the waterfall you can continue on the path which loops you back to Shifen old street.

Very nice waterfall. It has some small nice hikes around it. It was not busy at all when you compare it to the city. I was there at the end of the day. So maybe that’s why it was not busy. There is an nice and old bridge on the walk to the waterfall. And we did see some nice birds in the tree. You can walk from the city to the waterfall in 25 min. It is an easy walk and most people don’t have any issues with this walk. So just go there and have lots of fun.

Quite a walk to the actual waterfall. Be warned - especially those travelling with kids or old folks. Many steps to navigate, can be quite slippery. But once you get there, wow, the view is priceless. Enjoy it and soak in the calming presence of the water running. There are snack shops if you are hungry and souvenir stalls are also available.

These are some of the photos I took when I visited this place. I booked a tour in this place using Klook since I think that is the most convenient one to visit this place. It was pretty crowded when I went here. But I already expected that kind of seen since this place is pretty popular for tourist. The view is pretty nice around the waterfall. I must say that if you will go here you better bring a cap or umbrella because there is a high chance that it will be rainy or drizzling.

Definitely worth visiting. Besides the fall, there are several serene pools of a mountain stream. On a sunny day, you should catch the rainbow effect. Ample parking available in front of the entrance. Note: the outer edge of the waterfall seems a little too symmetrical to be completely natural. Perhaps it is: this “wall” functions to retain the water like a dam, but in the end, who cares. It’s beautiful.

Dubbed the mini Niagara Falls- emphasis on the mini. But still a worthwhile walk from the station. The roads are paved and there are a few steps, but very accessible. We went at a good time- it had just finished raining so the waterfall was pretty impressive. Make sure to walk down to the front of the waterfall; there's a seated area where you can just watch the waterfall and enjoy the surroundings! Note: Visited prior to COVID

Shifen Waterfall is a scenic waterfall located in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, on the upper reaches of the Keelung River. The falls' total height is 20 metres (66 ft) and 40 metres (130 ft) in width, making it the broadest waterfall in Taiwan. It is a cascade waterfall in which the water flows in one direction and the rock is sloped in the opposite. The waterfall also is nicknamed the Little Niagara of Taiwan. The waterfall is at about 2 km northeast of Shifen station of Taiwan Railways. The land surrounding the waterfall was private land for a long time and a private company collected entrance fees from the visitors. In 2014, New Taipei city's Tourism and Travel Department acquired the land around the waterfall and created a municipal park and made the admission to the park free.

🏞️ Less water in the summer, however the scenery is still beautiful. There are few observatory desks available there, so we can see the waterfall from many angles ✨ Don't forget to bring your umbrella and use sunblock if you want to visit during the summer, since it can be pretty hot along the way~ 🚉 We went there by TRA: Taipei Main Station -> Ruifang station -> Shifen station. It took around 10-mins walk to the waterfall. Will come back here next time for sure 🙌🏻

Went on a rainy day. There's a number of steps to climb to get to the opposite side, and some steps were slippery so have to be mindful for the elderly or children. The rain made the fall more impressive though. Short 10-15 mins walk from the carpark.

Very breathtaking, such surreal scenes. Absolutely stunning in all its nature, the shifen waterfall is a very comforting and relaxing place to take photos. If you signed up for day tours that cover jiufen, yehliu geopark, this place would likely be one of the places that is covered as part of the trip itinerary too. Definitely worth visiting - remember to take not only photos but also take in the scenery💯🤩

Shifen Waterfall is about 20mins walk from Shifen Old Street. Beautiful waterfall surrounded by greeneries. Visitors need to scale stairs to reach the waterfall. There are several viewing platforms offering 180 degree views of the waterfall and the surroundings. Worth the visit especially during weekdays, not too crowded.

Very scenic, nice walk to the waterfall. Several food stalls, souvenirs stands and a restaurant or two at the location. Does get a bit crowed on the stairs walking up to the waterfall (as some people seem to forget that the stairs are like 1 metre in width and there are people walking in both directions and think it’s a great idea to linger there taking photos). Note that there’s no ramps etc so if you are pushing a pram or with young kids you need to be wary of this also as carrying a pram up the busy narrow stairs could be a bit challenging. No tickets required as it was free entry. There were many food stalls at the station. Definitely must try the peanut icecream.

A nice little trek to the waterfall and you're awarded with a gorgeous view of the waterfall. There are several viewing platforms around the area each giving you a different perspective. Due to the area, there's quite a bit of stairs and walking.

Can anyone tell me what’s so nice about this? You can’t even go close to the waterfall as they covered everything up with barriers. Literally don’t even feel natural because they build many things around it. Just visit Taroko to see better waterfalls. Don’t waste your time here.

This is a pretty waterfall. There are two paths. Going towards the visitor center and down some steps is the prettiest way. You see a smaller waterfall first and cross two suspension bridges. The second way is to go up the road. You can take a stroller this way. The slopes are somewhat steep and at the end there are stairs and an elevator that says disabled only. You miss crossing the bridges but it is a bit shorter.

A place of great natural beauty, and waterfall though not massive is an attraction worth the short hike across a wobbly bridge and over train tracks. It was teaming with coachloads of tourists (myself included) who made quick visits and out again. It's tough going on a hot day.

It was crowded when I went here. You have to make your way across a chain single file bridge to get to the falls. I have to take a couple of bridges and go to short distance about 100m to the waterfall. The view is really nice but nothing too special that stands out. There are some small restaurants like street foods and souvenir shops scattered around. I recommended that the taste of grill sausage is good

Located near Shifen, beautiful waterfalls. The walk from parking lot is about 15min easy. There are multiple spots to photograph the waterfalls but the best is the first most crowded place. Higher viewpoints are kinda obstructed by trees or fences so it's not worth the climb. There are shops selling souvenirs and fruits along the way.

I am completely mesmerized by the grandeur of Shifen Waterfall! It truly lives up to its reputation as the "Niagara Falls of Taiwan." The sheer size of the waterfall is absolutely breathtaking, and the best part is that there are safe view decks strategically placed for capturing stunning pictures from different angles. I couldn't be happier with my visit to Shifen Waterfall - a must-see natural wonder that will leave you in awe!

A decent trek from shifen old street. About 15 min to the visitor center then another 20-30 to the waterfall view points. There are a few shops on the way to the actual waterfall and 2 suspension bridges.

This waterfall is a natural beauty and you can spend time in serenity. It's a great day trip from Taipei to enjoy some food and shops along the railroad street.

Beautiful cascade with lots of viewpoints to see it at different angles and levels. All paths very well maintained linked with stairs. To get here from Taipei, took a train to Ruifang (49 Taiwanese dollars, about 1.5USD) and from there to Shifen with a local train (19 NT, about 0.6USD). The hike to the cascade is also very nice and well marked.

Beautiful waterfall and a nice walk from Shifen station. If you’re bringing kids, be prepared to bring something to keep them occupied. The walk can be a little boring for kids especially if they don’t enjoy being outdoors. Comfy walking shoes is ideal for the walk to the waterfall.

A beautiful place with many viewing platforms from every angle. Every time we found a viewing platform, thinking we found the best one, we found another one even more beautiful than the last! I suggest checking the train times when you arrive at the waterfall so you can time your visit and return to catch the train, since they only come once an hour.

Quite a nice big waterfall with several lookout points but need a bit of climbing to go to the lookouts. Shifen is next to the train station. Lots of food choices at the old town which is next to the rail. Popular for releasing Confucius lanterns (200-250NT each) at this location. There is also a bridge crossing to the other side of the river.

Parking lot for tourist buses were far from the spot. Could use more handrails or to anything to make the steps safer especially when it is crowded. Toilets were available. Local food and souvenir shops are available.

You will need to walk to get to the place. You will cross a bridge and a lot of stairs. The falls is very beautiful. Unfortunately, you can’t swim in the area

An easy walk to from Shifen town, just follow the signs. If you're going on a sunny day, remember to bring sun protection as there is not much shade. This waterfall is also known as Taiwan's Niagara Falls. I would say the walk is about 20 to 30 minutes long from the town. On your way there you will cross a few bridges, and pass some vendor selling pork, jerky, fruits, ice cream and other snacks. There are also horse statues, swings, and a Koi pond. Once you cross the last bridge you will see a waterfall. This is not Shifen waterfall. I overheard a tourist say maybe there's a drought and that's when I had to tell them to keep walking, it's not the waterfall. After seeing the waterfall you can choose to hike higher but we chose not to as it was too hot.

This is an amazing waterfall but don't fall for the tourist trap of getting up front to take photos. It is way too crowded. Follow the observation path that leads in and you can find some amazing spots to take photos away from the crowd.
