Absolutely outstanding experience at Gracie Barra New Westminster! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The facility is clean, always concern about hygiene. A very welcoming and safe environment to learn bjj! From the students to the coaches, everybody is more than willing to take the time to teach and provide feedback on your progress. Professor Raz and his team of coaches are great teachers and are leaders by example. Look forward to training more here!

Excellent. Everyone is so welcoming in this space. I came onto the mat knowing nothing about jiu-jitsu and I have never once felt unwelcome or uncomfortable. The Coaches are amazing and know how to teach sequences in ways that make sense. The Students are respectful and a great learning community. I definitely recommend checking out Gracie Barra New West if you're into learning some new skills!

Hands down the best martial arts I could have enrolled my kid in. Here he learns so much more than the sport itself. We have been attending this gym for over 2 years. Through the pandemic they offered online classes at a discounted rate for the kids. My kid has learned respect , antibullying and self defense. Here we are part of a family . The professors are amazing with the kids. All of them. Highly recommend this location .

This gym provides classes for all skill levels in a safe environment that promotes technique and inclusivity. It has not only been a platform for self expression and fitness, but also a second home/community of likeminded individuals who support and care for you. The coaches and professors with years of experience give individual attention and support throughout training with plenty of patience and encouragement. The instructors have credibility, knowledge, and experience; prioritizing safety and inspiring the best version of you. This gym has a lot of regular women who have the option of training with men and also have access to women's only classes. When I walk into the gym, the mats are very clean and students are always smiling; I look forward to training and rolling with my teammates as I can be open with any discomfort or pain I am feeling- if any. If you're looking to compete or just partake in an exciting new hobby, look no further and sign up today!

Professor Raz and his team of coaches are amazing teachers and mentors. They truly care about the success of their students and members and not only help them develop their skills and techniques in the art of BJJ but also naturally building one of the most loyal family/member circles in the community. I cannot say enough good things about Professor Raz and GB New West.

I met Professor Raz over 12 years ago and have had the privilege of having him as an instructor when he taught in Vancouver and now in New Westminster. He truly cares about his students and encourages them to reach their potential regardless of their skill level. When the pandemic hit, he made sure everyone stayed connected and continues to maintain a high level of safety protocols at GBNW. Professor Raz, his entire team, and his facility are top notch.

I started doing Jiu Jitsu a couple weeks ago and couldn't have asked for a more welcoming environment. The professor is extremely knowledgeable and all of the students are very friendly and willing to help you learn. If anyone who's reading this is nervous or on the fence about Jiu Jitsu, you can rest easy if you choose this school to train

I wholeheartedly recommend Gracie Barra New West. Do not hesitate to come try out some Jiu-Jitsu! The coaches are friendly and welcoming, the people training are great too. Zero egos. Last time I did any sort of martial arts (karate) was when I was six. Now approaching 40 I finally decided to jump into BJJ headfirst. I had been eyeing GB New West for years and am kicking myself for not trying it out sooner! It is still very early days for myself (I'm about 2 months in), but being a brand new white belt at this gym I can say that everyone, Professor Chan, the other coaches, the upper belts and other white belts are super encouraging. As they say, "continue to show up". BJJ is a lot of fun. There's a lot of grappling. You are going to have to learn to be up close and personal with other members. But the spirit of BJJ learning is that you need to trust that your sparring partner is not going to hurt you. This is exactly what I experienced at GB New West from day 1.

I've now been training for about 3 months (Aug/2022) and all I can say is WOW. Amazing gym. I first brought my four-year-old son to BJJ in an attempt to get him involved but he was too young to really follow instruction yet, and I thought I might be too old to start but once I chatted with Professor Raz (and Josh, another instructor) it was clear that one is never too old to train BJJ (I'm 43). That being the case, why not give it a go? Decided to take the two-week trial and was almost immediately hooked! It became an addiction. Amazing cardio and fantastic way to keep fit. There are no meatheads here, the people you roll with are awesome, and everyone there just seems to want to help you get better. It's not intimidating or overwhelming in the slightest, in fact, I found the other students quite welcoming. The Professor has an uncanny ability to show you the both the mechanics of a technique as well as the principles behind it. Not to mention great taste in literature ;) I started out kind of curious, but now the BJJ bug has hit me hard and I'm more than thankful that I found a gym with such high quality as I have with the New Westminster Graca Barra gym. Every day I look forward to learning something new and trying out the move I have been working on. No matter what age you are, this is the place to get started or continue your BJJ journey! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I learned Tae Kwon Do, Jeet Kune Do and Filipini Kali, and Boxing in the past. These all took place in different environments. However, this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym is not like any other. The team is very welcoming and it is another home for you. Professor Raz and the staff have incredibley flexible schedules that allow you to take BJJ regardless of your busy circumstance. If you have free time, you take more BJJ. If you are busy, then don't worry, there will be a class available. The strongest part about this gym is the community. Rolling with people with different skill levels give yoy an opportunity to learn and make mistakes. You should enroll in this gym as soon as possible.

Family oriented training in a fun and safe environment. Coaches are always available to help students get better. Students are also keen to help each other out. We succeed together. Being in my 40s, I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep up. GB New Westminster has shown me not only can I keep up, but I can also hold my own. Some days it's hard on my body, but nothing worth doing is ever easy, and this is worth doing for anyone at any age.

This is my first BJJ gym. The quality, variety, and frequency of instruction are great so far. The culture that has been fostered by the professors and senior belts ensures that the focus is on learning and growth. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me in the coming years.

Such a fantastic team of people at Gracie Barra in New West! Professor Raz and his coaches are all incredibly caring & kind people. You see that reflected in all the students with how they interact and help each other out My granddaughter has loved being a part of the Little Champions class. It's given her so much confidence, and a whole new group of great friends. I love watching her participate in class and now her younger sister is joining as well. I highly recommend this location if you're considering BJJ, its a great environment and super supportive community.

Stumbled upon Gracie Barra in New West recently. Haven't trained BJJ in a very long time and decided to dip my toes in it again. Professor Raz and coaches have been extremely welcoming. The schedule offers sessions in morning, afternoon and evening so it's accommodating for people with different work lives. The classes are well structured and Professor Raz is very knowledgeable and is always open to questions. Highly recommended Graie Barra New Westminster for any BJJ enthusiasts or wanting to get into the sport.

I was nervous hitting the mats and getting into BJJ but after giving it a shot in the Gracie Barra new west gym with professor Raz, I am now in love with the sport and regularly attend classes. everyone at this site is super friendly and encouraging and you will never feel out of place throughout your learning and training. Since I have joined in March 2023, I have lost 5 Kilos and can feel myself getting stronger everyday.
