TAKEOUT Alert!!! They will automatically charge you 15% tips without acknowledgment! I order omakase takeout for 2 and they just hand me the payment device with 15% tips on it (you can’t see the final price until the receipt). The old Japanese chef said the tips is mandatory and seems very angry about this question. I normally pay 15-20% tips for dine in but you can’t force customer to pay 15% tips for takeout and not inform the customer first . This is like cheating for money. I don’t mind if you add 15% food cost or put the premium take out price on menu, but what he did was shady and I am disappointed this happened by Japanese people (known as honest and friendly) The attitude was so bad and he finally threw the $11 cash to me and asked me to leave. What the..? $35 x 2ppl x 5% tax x 15% tips

Run by an old Japanese couple so it’s as authentic as it gets. I went to a middle school across from the restaurant over 10 years ago and they’ve always been a staple in the area. The fish quality is great and everything is affordable. They have a $30 omakase that we enjoyed. We tried coming here for dinner once but was turned down because it was fully booked so I recommend that you call in advance. It’s in a low rise complex and gives a hole-in-a-wall vibes. I would come back here again for dinner.

Great value omakase you can find in the city with high food cost nowadays, we had a wonderful time sitting at the bar watching the chef prep us sushi. The old grandpa (chef) was super nice and he jokes with us here and there. The fish was very fresh, uni was so sweet. The only flaw i would say is the rice is not premium grade, however, given the price is only $35, it is perfect.

The chef is very friendly and the sushi he made is absolutely delicious. The fish is super fresh and the best is that the temperature when is presented is just right. Price is affordable too!!! Love it!!! I have high expectations before going, but it exceed that!!!

It was a good thing we made reservations before hand as they were so booked up, they had to refuse all walk ins on Saturday night. The service was pleasant with a mom and pop running the restaurant. The sushi was extremely fresh and tasty. The sashimi we ordered from their daily special menu was also delicious and fresh tasting. The omakase provides such a new assortment of variety that we noticed every table ordered the omakase as well.

Omakase ($35) was not only delicious, but a wonderful experience watching the chef masterfully craft each sushi! In Toronto, this quality would easily cost twice as much. Quaint atmosphere and polite staff. Highly recommend!

Been here three times already and it has been a fantastic experience every time! The sushi is great quality for very reasonable prices. I always make sure to leave a generous tip because the omakase is definitely worth more than the $35 and the service is great. Definitely the best sushi you can get in the Greater Vancouver area

If you miss Japan and are looking for an authentic, fresh, delicious omakase experience without all the bells & whistles, this is the place! Chef is kind, sweet, extremely experienced and knows his sushi. Truly a hidden gem, I've recommended to all my friends! They are currently closed on Tue & Wed, remember to call in advance to make a reservation (if he's not picking up it's because you're calling when they're closed or when the chef is busy, don't fret just try again tmr) and ask for a seat at the bar! And if you're reading this and questioning the 1-star reviews, this is not the place for cooked foods and mayo-drenched rolls and definitely don't expect your Miku -- it's traditional, authentic, fresh omakase that takes you back to your last meal in Japan. Expect no frills, slow service, and exceptional taste & value (wagyu, bafun uni and otoro from hokkaido for $35 omakase?!). We are in love! <3

(Translated by Google) Well-established sushi restaurant. Overall, the tuna was really delicious while the cost was good. The next time I want to eat 10 pieces of Toro only. It's a weekly home if you live close. (Original) 노포 스시집. 전체적으로 가성비가 좋은 와중에 참치뱃살이 정말 맛있었습니다. 다음에 가면 토로만 10피스씩 먹고 싶네요. 가까이 살면 매주 갈만한 집입니다.

This restaurant is out of the way for us but because of the good reviews we made our way here. We were so excited to try the omakaze menu. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. Firstly, the restaurant had lots of flies flying around. Then, the tea cup is not really clean. We ordered the omakaze and rainbow roll to start with. The food arrived, it looks very "home-made style". This actually makes it more excited to taste it because it shall have its specialty in the flavor. Apparently not, it tasted just how it looks....nothing special at all. For this price and quality, there are lots of other choice. There was even a bone in one of the sushi. I do not recommend and regret coming. This bill with just these items in the photo was $60. Not worth it at all.

Great sushi, and the omokase is one of the best in the lower mainland. If you ever ate sushi at the original Fuji sushi in the Lougheed plaza by the pho 99. This is the same chef that use to work there that ran marathons. Highly skilled, funny personality and would highly recommend this. Try to get a seat at the bar to maximize your experience as the chef will give you nigiri piece by piece, if you order the omokase

I've been to many sushi restaurants in my life in different countries, and I truly believe this was the best sushi I've ever had. Ever. I was very pleasantly surprised with how fresh the seafood tasted, and I finally got to have nigiri with a bit of wasabi spread on the rice, the way it's supposed to be. The omakase and rolls were all so delicious. Service can be a bit slow as it's run by a lovely older couple. The tea served is also really great. Definitely recommend.

A family owned and operated traditional sushi joint. The fish was super fresh and decently priced for the quality. My partner has a gluten allergy and we were pleasantly surprised to find out the chef brews his own wheat-free soy sauce! The owners are very kind and humorous. We're looking forward to our next visit.

Simple and to the point omakase sushi experience that doesn't try to impress on flashy ambience. From the outside, this place looks like a run of the mill Japanese restaurant, but inside the elderly couple the run the restaurant are attentive to you and try to respond as they can. Probably not a good place for small kids as there is limited space. The fish served with the omakase was fresh and melted in the mouth. The chef would check out wasabi acceptance level right away to adjust to our taste while we sat at the bar. Don't expect the chef to talk as hos English seems limited, but he is still happy to give you a smile. He watched us eat I guess to gauge how we liked the food. Omakase started off with the regulars of tuna, squid, and then ended off with toro tuna belly and sea urchin. Special sushi can also be ordered at $18 each piece. Was too full to try it , but next time would be interested to just try. The chicken karaage wasn't deep fried but still very good texture. And we had some cod from the grill that was good. Small piece, but very buttery.

$40 omakase set - super delicious value if you’re in the Port Moody area. I’m a tourist and really enjoyed the food, so I will make the trek again on my next YVR visit ✌🏻 11 pieces of nigiri + 1 temaki made with super fresh fish and care. Let the freshness shine! Enjoyed the variety and the different textures! The miso soup was also super balanced and was a wonderful way to start the meal.

I used to enjoy going there and supporting their business. But their lack of protocols around covid makes it feel uneasy to enjoy the experience. The food is still really good but the quality of the culinary experience is degraded by the lack of concern for customers’ health and safety.

Amazing food quality and great value omakase; however, poor hygiene. Chef and waitress did not wear a mask. There wasn't any blockage between customers sitting at bar and the sushi bar, nor did they require customers sitting at bar to wear masks.

DELICIOUS! These are the local family-owned mom & pop businesses I love supporting. The Daily Omakase is $35 for 12 pieces - 100% best value in the Lower Mainland! Very limited seating (6 at the bar and 14 seats at tables) so make sure to call ahead to make a reservation. Last time we were there, numerous walk-ins were turned away as they didn't have a reservation. They only accept Take-Out Orders in person and not via phone. Would be great if they offered delivery, but I understand they are sticking to traditional dining and most likely because it is only the husband and wife working. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning regularly!

Really great and affordable omakase experience! $35 per person: miso soup, 11 pcs of nigiri and one hand cone. Lots of street parking around the area. Strongly strongly recommend reserve a table in advance!! Two ppl walked in and was turned away, even though there were empty seats, reservations were full. No takeout order through phone, I think this means you have to order takeout in person and pay on the spot. I wish I learned japanese so I can converse with the owner. With covid, this is probably the closest Japanese experience I will have in a long time.

Amazing value Omakase, local dedicated chefs that you can chat with at the bar. The only thing holding me back from giving 5 stars was how the restaurant had poor ventilation and was very humid on a rainy day (10 Degrees outside). I will visit again for sure, but will have to wait until temperatures are warmer so inside is not as humid.

Only try if you're already in the area. The sashimi was fresh and their omakase is really cheap, $35 for 11 pieces but it's all very basic ones. This place looks family owned and they're quite slow but we didn't mind it since we had great company. We live in Vancouver though, and don't think I would drive 40 mins again to eat here but if I was in the area and had lots of time, then maybe.

Pop up to the shop on Thursday late afternoon without reservation. Luckily us can be seated and enjoyed the 10-PCs premium Omakasai sushi. The chef and staff are super friendly and nice. With the well known old and traditional setting. Side order two sashimi are in well quality. Freshness and sauce pairing are excellent.

Some of the best affordable sashimi I've ever had in the lower mainland. Pretty close to the quality of fish you would get in Japan. Omakase is $40 and the assorted Sashimi platter is $50. These prices are unheard of around here considering you would pay $100 most of the time for high end Sushi. Be sure to book reservations in advance as this place is very popular and bring cash! Owner can be a big grumpy at times and his English isn't the best but he makes some good sushi!

Wow.. a hidden gem. A friend brought me here, INCREDIBLY fresh fish. Reso needed. Don't come for rolls, come get the incredible real sushi this man and his family make. The three measures of an excellent sushi shop: fish quality, rice quality, and tamago quality. All are EXCELLENT here. Definitely a worthwhile visit for sushi nerds.

A fascinating establishment. Run by an elderly couple, it is one of a very few Japanese joints in Lower Mainland offering an old-school setup where it's best to get seated in front of the chef and see him preparing food for you. Ingredients are exceptional. They offer fish that is very hard to find in other Japanese restaurants. Also, it is suitable for different budgets where you can get very affordable donburi and more common rolls, or something more exotic at a higher price. You shouldn't expect quick service here, and there is no problem with that – this place offers a unique atmosphere that is more important than the speed of service. It might not be for everyone, but I think this restaurant deserves more attention.

Easily the best sushi in Port Moody, and possibly Vancouver as well. The Omakase is a steal for $35, with a selection of 11 incredibly fresh and flavourful pieces of nigiri and a piece of temaki. I was blown away! The Japanese authenticity is clearly apparent, as is the hospitality. We ordered our meal to go, but we spotted a quaint table outside to sit at. As we decided to start eating when out food came, the staff quickly came out with fresh hot tea for us to enjoy. This will be my go to sushi spot from now on!

I have no idea why this place is rated so high. It was one of the worst experiences for sushi we’ve had. The portion sizes were half of what you normally get anywhere else for almost double the price. 50$ dollars and we both left still hungry. The rolls mostly fell apart and the prawn tempura was a laughable 4 small pieces for 12$. The special rolls were tiny and tasteless. And we both actually thought they forgot to bring out half our order. Service was brutal as well. Overall it was the most disappointing dinner out I can remember. This is my first review of a restaurant ever. That should tell ya something right there. Should have taken a picture so you could see what 50$ gets ya here. Better sushi at the grocery store. Avoid this place at all costs.

Quite literally a mom-and-pop shop but is the spot I bring my family to when they're visiting from Ontario, or for a special occasion. A literal mom-and-pop shop by an elderly Japanese couple, you're certainly not going there for speedy and exceptional service. You're going there for some of the best sushi in town and the best value for an omakase experience you'll get anywhere in Metro Vancouver. What separates an okay sushi spot with an exceptional spot is how much attention is given to the rice. The rice ought to be lightly seasoned and the right texture, as to compliment the fish. I can assure you, you will notice the rice, and you will understand what I mean when you taste the nigiri here.

We tried the omakase, and a few other rolls and they were pretty good. The uni nigiri was very light and had a nice texture, and the other fish nigiri's were fresh and tasty. The only thing was that a few rolls were a bit hard to pick up because they were sticking to each other and starting to fall apart. Service was decent and the restaurant doesn't look very fancy, but it does have a quaint and cozy vibe to it. Overall was a good experience! The place does get full quick so if you go without a reservation, especially in the evening, there may not be a table available, so try to book in advance.

I had the omakase for takeout. Very strong knife skills! I was very impressed by the quality and variety especially for a small lower-volume operation. There are varieties/ cuts that are not commonly encountered! Definitely worth it and a satisfying lunch.

Was recommended by someone to visit this place and it did not disappoint! We came on a Sunday evening around 6:30pm and there were plenty of seats. Most of the fish tasted fresh and it was a good deal! Would recommend the sashimi platter as all pieces were tasty and fresh! The rice was quite fresh and warm so it would fall apart when using chopsticks but it was a minor issue! The owners were friendly. They easily split the bill although not speaking much english. Would recommend this place!

Sushi was fresh and close to what you could get in Japan. The server doesn't know the difference between regular and deluxe chirashi and just mentioned they are different which made us laugh. While paying by credit card, the server was staring at how much tips you're paying which made me uncomfortable.

A small Japanese restaurant located in Port Moody that serves really good value Omakase (11 sushi, 1 hand roll, and miso soup) for $40. The owners are Japanese and they even conversed with some of the patrons there in Japanese. The sushi chef was very quick at making the omakase for us and although it didn’t look like a lot, it was very filing and can be overwhelming for those not used to eating a lot of different raw seafood at the same time. The wasabi is right within and sushi itself. Other than raw fish, they also had some cooked dishes too. Very homey vibe and good service. Would recommend if you’re looking for a little bit of Japan in Port Moody.

Ordered $35 Omakase Sushi, and truly cannot complain about a single thing. For that price and the quality of nigiri you get... just grateful and thankful.

  • 5/5 Tobias G. 3 years ago on Google
The food was ordinary with a homemade feel but it is kind of special to see an old Japanese man behind the sushi bar and his wife cooking in the kitchen and serving. Sushi was pretty good, sushi rice was a bit sticky for my taste, but there’s something quite wholesome, authentic, and artless about the food and the place.

  • 4/5 Mikael L. 3 years ago on Google
This restaurant is run by a Japanese husband and wife. This small 2 person operation would entail slow service when they're busy, which can happen at times. Nonetheless, they're very friendly. On to the most important thing: food! The sushi is very fresh and the omakase, now at $35, is still a steal compared to the plethora of Japanese restaurants in the Lower Mainland. It was definitely a bargain before at $25. However, while their other rolls, sashimi, nigiri are fresh and good, they're considerably overpriced compared to the other sushi restaurants locally who have comparable quality. Their cooked offerings are more reasonably priced and pretty standard as well - nothing to write home about. I would recommend this place strictly for the at-the-counter omakase experience, as the value is quite good in that regard.

Good and decent price omakase, they have daily special sashimi and they were really fresh. Sashimi isn’t the cheapest, but good quality. If you plan on coming here, few things to note: 1) make sure you have a reservation or they will turn you around; 2) be ready to wait a long time (dine in time is easily 1.5 - 2 hrs) for everything - them taking your order to you getting your tea and food; 3) looks like it’s ran by the entire family - great but simply not enough hands. 4) if you try all their specialty food - i.e. yhe higher priced food, seems like they pay more attention to it, but if you order for e.g. the salmon roll they don’t seem to put much effort into making the roll - you can tell just from the way it’s rolled.

Loved the home-y, warm, and welcoming atmosphere this place had. The omakase that we tried for $35 was worth it. A good starter omakase for sure. This was a surprise, did not expect such a good place hidden away. The sushi was really good, like really good. Great value for price. I tried the omakase and the chiraishi deluxe. I would say the chiraishi is better value, omakase has better presentation and comes in form of nirigi. There was sea urchin, different types of tunas and not cheap salmon or imitation crab. Only down side is that it was pretty hot in there and the bathroom wasn't very clean. I think they could use a little bit of renovation. Service was great, arigato. Note: RESERVE a few days before.

Very friendly staff and sushi chef! We will come back for sure. その日に仕入れた新鮮なお魚ばかりを使ったおまかせコースをいただきました。毎月来たいと思います。 楽しい時間をありがとうございます。

35 dollars for omakase is a pretty good price for 10 pieces of nigiri and a hand roll. The staff are nice and the food was good for its price except for the uni that day because it was pretty gnarly. It was a deep orange color and tasted pretty gross. They don't have uni every day on the omakase and the quality might not be as bad as the one I had so I would still recommend friends to go while avoiding to have the uni there.

Covid protocols not being followed, that would be my biggest concern. The sushi chef took off his mask half way making our food, and didn't put it back on. The service was odd, we were sat by the bar, and weren't given plates. We asked for one and he said 'no". I thought he was just joking, but apparently not. We asked what kind of fish is being served (we ordered omakase) and he said "I don't know", kinda just brushed us off (maybe it's just language barrier, but it came out to be pretty rude). Fresh fish though, but overall, unpleasant experience, will not return.

😠 Wow! And not in a good way. Thought this was going to be the perfect place to entice hubby to go somewhere new for a burger... best in town, top 50 in world... DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. We drove from Maple Ridge and wish we had hit the Red Robin only 10 minutes away instead. Ordered hubby a man's man...
