I've
waited
almost
a
year
to
leave
this
review,
because
I
didn't
think
it
was
fair
to
put
too
much
emotion
into
it.
This
stay
was
the
last
night
of
the
week
of
our
honeymoon,
so
our
expectations
were
higher
than
normal,
despite
it
just
being
an
overnight
stay
before
a
flight
home.
So
in
that
frame
of
mind,
I
will
try
my
best
to
simply
list
the
facts
of
our
stay
at
the
Sandman
Suites
Surrey-Guildford
and
let
the
reader
judge
for
themselves.
We
arrived
at
the
Sandman
in
the
late
evening,
and
checked
in
without
much
drama.
Our
traversal
of
the
parking
area
was
harried
due
to
the
unusual
bespoke
designs
involved,
but
it
did
look
secure
and
relatively
clean.
We
couldn't
find
much
in
the
way
of
budget
rooms,
so
given
what
we
had
spent
on
the
night,
I
figured
this
would
be
a
solid
place
to
stay.
Getting
into
the
room
was
not
so
easy.
Our
room
card
didn't
work.
We
went
back
to
the
front
desk,
still
bogged
down
with
our
luggage.
We
were
issued
another
room
key.
I
ask
the
clerk,
have
you
any
refreshments?
I
am
parched.
He
says,
I'm
sorry,
we
do
not.
I'll
have
to
wait
for
some
tap
water
I
suppose.
No
big
deal
-
it's
getting
quite
late.
I'm
sort
of
surprised
there
isn't
a
bottle
of
water
available,
but
I'm
too
tired
to
put
up
a
fight.
We
went
back
to
the
room,
which
is
situated
directly
in
front
of
this
droning
and
ill-maintained
commercial
air
conditioning
unit,
and
found
our
card
still
not
functional.
Back
to
the
lobby.
They
looked
at
us
incredulously,
the
desk
clerk
and
the
security
guard.
Help
them
out,
says
the
clerk
to
the
guard.
He
gives
him
yet
another
key.
I
look
in
the
corner
of
the
lobby
and
see
a
small
fridge.
I
curiously
walk
over
and
find
it
full
of
cold
drinks.
We
lug
ourselves
back
to
the
room.
This
key
also
doesn't
work.
The
guard
says
he'll
be
right
back.
We
wait
in
the
hallway
in
front
of
our
room,
air
conditioner
warbling
and
complaining,
occasionally
changing
pitch.
The
guard
returns
-
the
room
opens
-
he
grins
-
we
stumble
into
our
room
at
last.
We're
greeted
with
a
musty
smell
and
an
ironic
dampness
in
the
air,
given
the
dramatic
stance
on
air
conditioning.
My
wife
enters
the
washroom
and
finds
a
blowtorch
(?)
scorch
mark
on
the
bathroom
mirror.
Oddly,
the
air
conditioner
is
somehow
louder
inside
the
room
with
the
door
closed.
We
leave
without
further
event,
until
we
get
the
bill
for
the
room.
We've
been
charged
some
odd,
poorly
explained
fee
in
the
hundreds
of
dollars.
We
have
a
back
and
forth
over
the
phone
and
email
and
they
finally
reverse
the
charge
and
explain
it
with
some
user
mistake
or
computer
problem.
I
don't
recommend
staying
at
the
Sandman
Suites
Surrey-Guildford.
