Had high expectations based on the great reviews but the only item that actually lived up to expectations was the Nigiri Tile, the nigiri was big and the sashimi were a good size. Unfortunately, the beef tataki was overcooked and oversalted, the aburi chopped scallop was pressed but completely unseared and came garnished with bland black olive slices. Don't think we'll be back again

Very Delicious. I used to live in the neighborhood and order the Tuna tataki and tuna aburi oshi. Now I moved to the island, it is still my favorite place for oshi, and whenever I am in the area, I stop by. The staff and the chef are very kind even though they are very busy with take out orders. Thank you Fat Tuna in Mallardeville, forever in my heart ❤❤❤

Best deep fried California and best Yakisoba in all metro Vancouver! Eduard was awesome server. For the first time someone asked me if I would prefer water or tea, super friendly and alert. The Chicken yakisoba was tasty, crunchy and perfect! You need to try this gem!

Nice presentation for food items, but the food quality not as good as the Google reviews mentioned. 2 of us had tried... King roll --- a lot of yam fries top of 8 pieces of fishy prawn tempura sushi with pan seared mushy tuna pieces on top with spicy sauce. Their rolls are falling apart.. Lobster roll --- hardly find lobster and scallops inside the roll, only 1 tiny piece of lobster meat inside the last piece, Mostly salmon sashimi with tobiko on top.. they used same sauce as king roll.. Saba Nigiri sushi --- extremely fishy saba on loose rice Big eye tuna Nigiri sushi --- it's chewy tuna sashimi top on Loose rice.. Prawn tempura --- worst tempura i ever have before, Their tempura batter are too hard and thick. No wonder just only 1 customer inside, beside us at lunch time on Saturday.. It's small and cozy restaurant With 5 tables. Service was fast and friendly. But won't go there again, Because made us have diarrhea, After an hour... Their plate is broken

Dinner date with the wife here before seeing as show in town. Fat Tuna is a small place but is huge in flavour and quality. I had the Spider Roll and Dual Tuna, wife had the Deep Fried California Roll and Dynamite Roll. We were both impressed with the delicious dinner we were served. Server was great, but their focus seems to be on their takeout business. Kitchen was hustling hard still had a lot of attention to detail as both of our plates were beautiful. I'd recommend you visit Fat Tuna!

Small cozy restaurant, could fit 4-5 parties. Personally I prefer smaller restaurants but if you’re planning on bringing a big group this is not the place to go. The hostess/waitress was quick to seat us and was friendly the entire stay. My husband and I tried the tempura vegetables, Teriyaki Beef bowl, and the fat tuna wrap. All were pretty great! Tempura vegetables - loved the presentation of this dish. It just brought it to a new level. And who doesn’t enjoy massive vegetables haha Teriyaki Beef bowl - the serving size was very generous for this one! This is definitely for 2 people. The flavor was great but for some could potentially be on the saltier side but that’s the whole point of getting teriyaki Fat tuna wrap - a great lunch entree! A light and refreshing wrap without any heavy dressings. I’d highly recommend this place !

Came here with my mom on a weekday at dinner time, we were the only ones here. It’s a relatively small family-ran sushi place and a little bit cramped. We ordered the Salmon oshi (mild), Rocky Mountain Roll, and the Chirashi don (see pictures below). The salmon oshi (6pc) can be either spicy or mild. We ordered mild, and it was not spicy at all! :)(coming from a person that cannot handle spice). It also came with a side salad and black olives on top, and was overall pretty good! would recommend. Chirashi don is a pretty large good serving, with fresh Tuna, Tuna fat, Salmon, Tamago, and some other types of Tuna that I can’t quite remember. There isn’t anything too special with the don, but it’s pretty fresh for those that love sashimi. The Rocky Mountain roll (vegetarian) was really really good, with an overall crispy and sweet taste. Would definitely recommend this one as well. Service was good, food came quickly, overall a pretty pleasant experience!

Good sushi rolls and good service. Creative rolls and combination. Good choices of warm appetizers. Very tiny place with limited seats. A lot of folks do takeout. Price is reasonable. Plenty of parking spaces outside.

This is a small Korean run Japanese restaurant. They have 2 older chefs who prepare high quality meals really quickly. It's probably good for only 5 tables but there's a lot of delivery and takeout volume. The tempura is crispy but not overcooked. They have a really good crab rice with sushi rice and maybe unagi sauce topped with kani salad and tempura crumbs. The dinner sashimi set has thick cuts: 2 kinds of tuna, the red fleshed tropical variety and the white albacore from North American waters. They have both wild Pacific salmon and Atlantic salmon as well as hamachi and seared tuna. The spicy salmon maki with sushi set has huge fish slices with very little rice (low carb). Great place, a favorite.

Complex was a little confusing to get to but no issues after finding it. Strange thing to comment on but I really liked the smell of torched fish as soon as I walked in. Not something I always notice but I don't usually enjoy the smell of sushi restaurants. Had the gomae, miso soup, chicken teriyaki roll, sockeye salmon roll and beef yakisoba. Really good quality food. I found the yakisoba to be a bit heavy on the sauce but good otherwise. Highly recommend the sockeye salmon roll and Miso soup. Server was very kind and attentive.

Off the beaten path! Sweet little sushi place with about 5 tables. Servers are darling ladies. We shared Party Platter A of 30 pcs and loved the variety of sushi rolls. Good bang for your buck. Free parking. Downside is it's not accessible for wheelchairs and doesn't have a liquor license. 😭

Stopped by on my way to IKEA. Both the service and the unagi don were absolutely amazing! I also really enjoyed their chicken karaage; my only complaint was that it didn’t come with a dipping sauce automatically. That was quickly remedied by the wait staff! I’ll definitely be back

    - Our Tuna and Sockeye Salmon Sashimi was still frozen, and therefore mushy and crunchy, on the inside. - The wakame (seaweed salad) is a staple side dish at most traditional Japanese eateries, however for $7 you got less than a handful here. - We both had a terrible stomach ache after eating here as well. I was excited to try this place based on other reviews, so it is unfortunate that our experience was so below our expectations. I would rate this place 1 star if it was just based on the food, but the waitress we had was good and the presentation of the food was decent.

I think we've uncovered for ourselves the crème de la crème of Japanese nosh in Coquitlam. This joint takes taste and aesthetics to a whole new stratosphere of scrumptiousness. Everyday Japanese fare? Pshh, they toss that concept out the window and inject a signature flare, creating a delectable experience that has your taste buds singing like a nightingale. Beef udon morphs into a mouthwatering main event, while the humble Philadelphia roll gets a fabulous makeover, demanding your undivided attention. Oh, and the Gomae? It's a veritable masterpiece of plating perfection, drizzled with just the right amount of drool-worthy sauce. These culinary maestros have managed to revamp beloved classics without drowning out their soul, offering an innovative twist that's neither overpowering nor pretentious. It's no surprise that this eatery has effortlessly waltzed its way into our list of go-to gastronomic havens.

Found this place for lunch when I visited Coquitlam last week. We got the fat tuna tempura, which was very tasty and crunchy, a bit oily and battery, but still exceeded my expectations since it had tuna and lobster tempura and the veggies were very nice too. We got the oshi tuna sushi and a few negiris as well. The oshi tuna sushi was not to my taste as it had too much sauce, but it had lots of tuna. The negiris tasted okay, and the size of the raw fish pieced were larger than what I've had normally. Definitely not the best sushi restaurant, but for sure, it's better than the average. The presentation and the taste were good, but I'd say a bit pricy for its worth.

ATMOSPHERE: 9/10 FOOD: 8.5/10 SERVICE: 9/10 We have ordered from Fat Tuna before and enjoyed it so decided to go in and eat. We ordered a Party Tray for 2 of us and the oshi sushj to try. The oshi sushi is something you can skip for sure, especially if you’ve had it at Shio at The High or Green Leaf! Those two places are hard to beat for the right ratios of sauce, rice and fish on top. The party tray was HUGE!! I think my boyfriend and I are simple and don’t really like the special rolls with too many things and flavours going on at the same time. We really liked everything but the amount of imitation crab in the dynamite roll was a tad overwhelming, along with the specialty roll in the middle that was too much for sure. The salmon and tuna though were SUPER fresh and SO DELICIOUS though, I would 100% come back and recommend. But only get nigiris, sashimi, or any of the maki rolls!

We went here on a whim, to discover the best Japanese lunch of our lives. This affordable, delectable, nutritious 5 course teriyaki chicken bowl was something we’ll continue to rave about in Australia.

Small place - would be best served via takeout vs dining in. Thoughtful staff. Due to dietary constraints of some of our party we ordered more baked and sauce-infused items. The meal was far more heavy than a typical sushi meal. I would order differently next time and only carry out.

I think this place is a bit overhyped. The calamari salad that we ordered had a creative presentation and was tasty. The lunch roll combination was also good deal as it lets you pick from a variety of rolls. Otherwise, it is a pretty average sushi restaurant.
