Sadly, this hotel has gone downhill over the last few years. Have always stayed here, and decided to stay again for our long weekend, but should’ve looked elsewhere. Spent around $400 per night, they graciously “upgraded” us to a room not facing the back of the building. The rooms have gotten significantly worse since my last time here.. not maintained at all. Paint chips, mildew, wallpaper is completely flaking off, bathroom door crumbling apart, just generally not taken care of, it looks dirty even though the cleaning staff do a great job. Wish they would maintain the rooms as well as they do the lobby. Lastly, I have always received great service here, and mostly did this past time too, with the exception of check in on Thursday afternoon.. the lady who checked us in was cold, short and demeaning towards us. The other staff are lovely, especially the security and door staff. All in all, not worth the cost anymore sadly.. will stay elsewhere next time :(

The staff is the only thing saving this hotel. The rooms are dated and falling apart. Our sink was so close to the wall you could not stand in front of it. Our window ledge fell off when you lean on it and all of the fixtures in the bathroom were falling off. They put a $150 hold on your card for incidentals and there are no services in the hotel to spend money on. The rooftop lounge is awesome and run by someone else so you cannot charge things to your room. If you even want coffee in the morning, you must go out of the hotel. We will not return even though we are in NYC many times throughout the year. ADD on to the fact that the Valet service stole my Travel mug from my car. Don't waste your money on this dump.

I enjoyed my stay. There was a slight issue at check-in, and Adam, the manager, got it resolved easily. He even provided a room upgrade. After seeing my colleague's accommodations, I had even greater appreciation for the upgrade because the standard queen room was very small. The location was great, right across the street from Lincoln Center. The staff were all helpful and kind, going above and beyond to ensure my comfort. Thank you 😊

I was really looking forward to staying here but unfortunately it was quite a disappointment. While the hotel lobby is lovely, the actual room & accommodations are unfortunately not 4 star at all. I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights in a superior king room. None of the days we were there did housekeeping come through, our heater was broken in the sense that it either had to stay completely off or the room turned into a sauna even at the lowest setting. All of the furniture was fairly old and chipped, wobbly or dirty/stained (see pictures, even stains on the lampshade), odd layout and placements (like the fridge inside of the wardrobe?), jarring wall patterns everywhere and the quality was nothing like a different 4 star hotel I had stayed in for two nights prior. The view of “the courtyard” is just a straight look into other peoples rooms (and kind of depressing) so we couldn’t keep our curtains open without accidentally making eye contact with other guests in their rooms, and our room was really dark even with all lights available on. We received the handicap accessible room though we hadn’t chosen it/didn’t request it, so bathroom was pretty outdated and didn’t have any vanity space, instead just an old rolling metal shelf beside the sink. When we asked if there was another room we could move to for all of these reasons and more (i truly never ask for this type of thing) we were met with a short response and told there was nothing they could do. While the location was good, you can definitely find better in the area for a similar price. I feel like I overpaid for a nice lobby (the bar in the lobby was closed the entire time though) but nothing else. Sad to say I won’t be returning.

Don’t stay here. Trust me it’s horrible. There are so many other options in New York City to stay at that are so much better than this dump. My room was disgusting. First of all the first floor hallways are dark. They need to upgrade the lighting. It’s creepy and it feels unsafe especially for a single female traveler, traveling alone. The room, was disgusting the carpet was filthy it stunk the lights were dim the bathroom was dinky. The caulking was cracked. There was mildew in the shower. I called down to request another room and was told they did not have anything that they could give me until the following day. I went downstairs to have dinner and think about it. I came back up to the room I thought perhaps I could stick it out for one night and then switch rooms. I went to turn on the TV and it did not work. Once again, I called down and requested to be moved to another room. They said they did not have anything and then I said I was not going to stay at this disgusting hotel and I left. I checked into the Marriott a few blocks away. I called the manager, she manager offered to refund one night for me and give me a 50% discount on my next stay. I will never stay at this hotel again even if it were free. I would recommend you do not stay at this hotel , it is a one star hotel. There’s so many beautiful hotels in New York that you can stay at for the same price.

Great location. We enjoyed the New York Philharmonic and decided to stay across the street. The service was fantastic and door staff very friendly. The front desk staff may need to be reminded to smile a little more often!

Lobby staff and check in was friendly. Parking validation didn’t make sense and was confusing, ended up paying full price at a nearby garage. We were told to pay $100 to check in our room early, so we waited all the way until 3. Upon entering our room it was literally a sauna. The thermostat said 92 and it was full blasting heat. After calling front desk twice they sent maintenance through and he told us he’d fix it and get it down to 70 degrees, later after going out all night we get back and the room went down to 80! It was very stuffy and uncomfortable. The beds were way too soft. Bathroom sink was leaking and the power outlet blew out. Rooftop bar was nice but expensive. They took my step dads beer when it wasn’t empty, and wouldn’t reduce our tab. Strange. Very awesome location, convenient to nutcracker ballet, Central Park, subway, food, etc. Overall, good amenities but poor outdated rooms. I wouldn’t return unless I paid a significant reduction for the room.

This was a NIGHTMARE that cost $438 for one evening. We had a view to a puddle with trash in it but zero light because of a heavy vinyl covering that could not be propped up. Worse, the room was SO damp, inescapably damp, the wallpaper peeling and the paint bubbling off the door it was so damp. Even the ancient carpet was damp. My dry clothes became damp overnight just sitting in that room, and my hair frizzed uncontrollably. But it was also freezing due to AC we had zero control over. Even a basic Hampton Inn lets you manage the thermostat, no? These rooms clearly haven’t been renovated for 20+ years. To top it off, there were no hangers or bottled water in the room—but we were charged a $20 additional fee for the missing complimentary water in the room, the pool that was closed for the season, etc. In short, this was a ripoff so extreme that it’s almost impressive. I did email the front desk about all of this. They did not offer any refund. They did apologize that the room ‘not entirely to your liking,’ as if I’m a snob for not wanting to pay hundreds of dollars to sleep in a windowless swamp of a room.

The location and the rooftop are great. And that's about it. The room is old and dirty, the bathroom is disgusting and half broken. The pool was FREEZING and that was on a 95-degree weekend. The hallways are dark, with an old carpet and old wallpaper. The hotel needs some serious renovation. If you're looking for something clean and spacious, go somewhere else. The room is SO SMALL you can barely move. I tried to change the sheets one day because something spilled and the cleaning lady put them back! Will never go back there

We loved the complimentary water bottles, we went for them at the reception. Downsides: The swimming pool is closed. Gym is closed. No restaurant for breakfast in the hotel. The rooftop closes at 11pm, except Fridays & Saturdays when it closes at 1am (staff confused the closing times, so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop). The rooms are very old, but clean. You can hear the noise from the hallway and the elevators, very thin walls in the room. The room cleaning service is nice, reception as well :). Thank you, overall, for the experience. The staff was nice, but we would never go back to this hotel - we chose it and paid this money due to the facilities and they were all closed. Big disappointment.

Perfect for our one night stay in NYC. Great location for the main attractions at a really decent price. Mattress and pillows were really good, we slept great. They offered a crib for our baby, we sleep with him so we got the single bed but I always appreciate that they have that option. The shower was nice and tall, my husband is 6'3 so it really does make a difference. The only thing that would of made it better would have been the towels, they were small and very rough, there was no coffee maker in the room, and when we turned on the heater it made creaking sounds but it went away after a minute. They were minor things, we still enjoyed our stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful when we arrived and gave us priority since we had a reservation. Valet was an extra charge (around $70) but you have to pay for parking anyway (around $50) and I don't think it's close so we decided to upgrade and it was great not to have to worry about our car, we planned on walking to were we needed to go and it worked out great for us. It's a well maintained hotel, lobby is clean and spacious and was beautifully decorated, really gives you the New York vibe. There are 4 elevators so we never had long waits to get to our room. Didn't get to check out the rooftop restaurant because it was closed. Found the stairs to the pool but we have a baby and a stroller and couldn't find the elevator to take us all the way up but didn't try that hard so there might have been a button we didn't see. My only note with the rest of the hotel is that brightening it up might be more inviting, the rooms and hallways are a very dark theme that don't do the beautiful place justice in my opinion. We would definitely stay here again, however we will upgrade for the bigger room maybe with a view because it's a great location. Has lots of restaurant options just a few feet away and target is less than half a mile for any essentials. We stopped at a coffee shop right around the corner on our way to the park, you arrive close to a playground and if you keep going a little bit you find the ice rink. Times square and Rockefeller were a longer walk but worth it, lots of places to stop on the way so didn't mind the walk at all.

The location is a block away from central park and near subways to get you around the city. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we got a great view of the city and Lincoln Center. There were some issues with the elevators while we were there but we weren't held up for too long. We were just sad that we couldn't use the fitness center due to the unusually hot weather that caused them to close it temporarily. Their rooftop is also incredible! Super friendly and efficient staff too!

Location: amazing Staff: lovely Hotel : Dark and NOT clean. Rooms have OLD smelly carpet (happy I don’t own a black light because I can imagine this carpet has a few crime scenes worth of DNA) the bathroom baseboards are rotting and the window coverings were covered in some sort of fluid - not taking any guesses here. No ice machine, no room service, no lobby bar. The hotel just isn’t great considering the amount of spots to stay in NYC that would likely be the same price if not cheaper 4 out of 10: would not recommend, especially us cleanliness is important to you. We paid $50 to check in 2 hours early.

My rating is largely due to the Empire Superior Room (King) we received. I chose this hotel due to the aesthetic in its photos. But once I got into the tiny room I got claustrophobic. There is barely space to walk between the bed and the low 2-drawer dresser. The bathroom door does not close. I tried to slam it shut but then I almost got stuck inside. The drainage in the shower is poor. I had to stop the water a few times for fear of flooding the bathroom. So my showers take longer than normal. The bathroom was truly the smallest one I have ever been in. The lack of space behind the sink is ridiculous. The AC does not work properly. However, I did appreciate the comfort of the mattress and had good sleep. The staff seem young and laidback in their level of professionalism.

Worst experience ever with a hotel. The entire experience made me never want to visit NYC again. Booked a double bed room through 3rd party website for 2 couples. Tried to check in at 11 AM initially and was told that our was not quite ready yet and to come back after 4 PM. We came back to check in at 7 PM and was told that the only room available for us (2 couples) what is a room with one king size bed, and a pull out couch. To add some context here, I called this hotel, three separate times, and the two weeks leading up to my check and date to ensure that we had the correct room with a great view. Time after time I was assured that this is what I would be getting. The room we got was filthy and disgusting with a horrible view. For $400 a night I slept on a pull out couch that was disgusting. Oh, and the twist lock on the door did not work. The curtains would not close so we had to use our suitcases to hold the curtains… All around horrible experience. I don’t know how they have gotten such great reviews, but do not book at this hotel.

Great location. Beautiful lobby. Very nice doormen. Dim hallway. Very warm room (even though we turned down the AC to 65 degrees (Room was 71 degrees). 1 wash cloth for 3 people. We never received more the 1st night. We had to ask again the 2nd night as there were 0 washcloths now. Remote control for the TV was made up in the bed! Sink cabinet door was coming off. Room door didn't shut without slamming. The gym had 2 treadmills that could not be used and was in the musty basement with a dead cockroach. Would not stay here again.

Absolutely loved it. The 1920s decor amazing. Staff extra friendly. My daughter & I had a small room as we were never in it, but we had everything we needed clean towels every day, bath robes & the location is brilliant. 10 minutes 2 times square. It was inthe middle of everything. Roof top bar gorgeous I would highly recommend it. & definitely stay there again

Okay you guys… my friends and I were very excited to stay here at THE empire hotel where Chuck Bass lived for many seasons of gossip girl. Now we weren’t planning on staying in a penthouse suite or anything but the whole experience was rather… underwhelming. When we arrived we asked for four champagne glasses for us to drink our champagne with, but apparently there is not one glass in the whole hotel because they don’t have a kitchen in the hotel (the bar on top is a separate entity, so we learned). Okay no big deal we used the paper cups in our room and got ready to go up to the roof and swim. This was the kicker for us because the picture of the pool on the website is very generous, I will say. When we got to the pool we actually started laughing because it was so small. Pool day scratched, whatever we just went back to the room. I hopped in the shower and lo and behold the shower pressure was insane!! Like… too insane… I dropped the shower head and it started spinning around and got the whole bathroom soaked because the shower wasn’t full enclosed 😂 might want to change that design layout a bit to be more practical? Final note is there was no way to control the AC temp in the room so we couldn’t make it icy cold like you would want to when you stay at a hotel. All in all the stay was fine but not what you would expect from a four star hotel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Am I mad we stayed here? No. Would I stay here again? Definitely not. Do with that what you will

Great location, quiet area, clean and safe which was extremely important. No too far from the sightseeing and close walking distance to central park! Close to the fashion are, museums, everything was close yet safe and peaceful. The rooms was a good size, I just wish a bit more updated. The roof top view is amazing! You can have dinner there, just make sure to make reservations. 😉

The hotel does a fantastic marketing job to attract consumers. However, when you arrive, the hotel's price point doesn't equate to the room's quality. The customer service of the front desk needs to be improved. I traveled to this hotel after burying my mom and needed somewhere that was turnkey. Unfortunately, this was not the appropriate selection. 1. The elevators are in desperate need of an update. 2. The rooms are very tiny - pictures are very deceiving. 3. There is only one mirror in the bathroom - no full-length mirror. 4. The room temp is off by 10 degrees. 5. The bed frame needs updating. 6. The rooms are not equipped with a microwave. 7. If you call the front desk, they put you on hold and never return. 8. There is a bar - however it was never opened.

I would give this Hotel a 3.7. It is in a good location and has good subway connections. Rooms are spacious and staff is quick and professional. However the hotel does require an upgrade. For example, when trying to shower I turned the faucet and nothing was coming out - I did turn the valve to open the tap just next to shower head itself and it started leaking yellow water for a few seconds. Perhaps the shower wasn't used? But from a 4 star hotel that's not something I would expect.... The gym is small and is falling apart. I saw some equipment that had bolts sticking out - that's a health and safety concern. Oh and there's no breakfast

I was pleasantly surprised by our stay after reading the reviews that others wrote. The employees were very accommodating and polite, our room was clean and comfortable, and our view of the city was wonderful. Thank goodness for the air conditioning because outside it reached 100 degrees during our stay.. The beds were a bit small, but that is to be expected in a small room in the city. The pool was very small as well, but so refreshing in the extreme heat. Location was great - walking distance to many attractions and restaurants. I would absolutely stay here again!

Remember to use Hoᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a room. This web site will compare countless booking websites and usually will have prices a lot cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of the highest rated in the area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you decide to stay here you won't regret it. Location is great, the staff are very pleasant. The rooms needs renovations, the comforter on the bed was stained. The pool is very small, it reminds me of a hot tub. Other people were disappointed as well about the pool, some didn’t even bother and just turned around and left. The rooftop was nice, the bar restaurant was great.

This was the 3rd time we have stayed at The Empire. We love it! The staff is great. The rooms are clean. The AC is super strong, but we just turn it off if it gets too cool for us. You can’t be the location. It’s walkable to anything. This Labor Day Weekend we celebrated our daughter Fiona’s 21st birthday & they made sure she had a great view. We absolutely will be back to this beautiful place!

Really disappointing stay. Friends and I booked a junior suite for a weekday. We arrived to the hotel after the 15:00 check in time to be told our room wasn’t ready, but someone was cleaning it as we spoke. It would be ready soon. We sat in the lobby for an hour and a half waiting for the room to be ready, and we had to check in with them to keep getting updates. We were told the room we booked wasn’t available and they were switching. There went enough towels in the room for everyone, and the wallpaper is falling of the walls. A 1 hour late check out was offered in compensation. The room was dingy and run down looking. Dirty lamps, beaten up chairs, and it was very stuffy and just felt damp. We were woken by housekeeping before 9 AM- for a one night stay who asked when we were leaving. Housekeeping came back again to ask when we were leaving at 12. It was a very frustrating stay. On check out day, the front desk staff were very curt and not polite when assisting with the valet. We had been told it would take 30 minutes to get the car and that we could call down. No one answered the phone when we called three times, and when I went down, I was greeted by a curt man at the front desk who told me it would be 45 minutes. I was told we still had to be out of the room before 13:00, despite the valet taking longer. I was told we couldn’t just leave the room keys to check out, that we had to do so at the desk. There are two people working the desk and a large line every time we needed anything. While that isn’t their fault, the hotel is not staffed appropriately and the staff that is here is clearly run so ragged that they’re rude. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless updates are made and more staff are added. When we got the car back from the valet they had changed many settings and there were crumbs all over the seat.

The location is great but the fun stops there. No way to control the temperature in your room. The hallway lights were not working and it was like walking in the dark to find our room. The refrigerator in the room did not work at all. The blinds did not work and were stained. The room was in need of a deep cleaning. The place has tons of potential but is really showing its age. The staff was friendly but I would expect a cleaner environment for the price. Definitely disappointed.

If you've ever been to NYC you know that you're not spending much time in your room. That being said the room was your average NYC hotel room and it always clean. My only disappointment was that the bathroom was EXTRA small and the constant smell of weed (not sure if it was in another room or from outside). The location was awesome, a cab was in reach at all times, food, coffee, pharmacy all easily accessible in the area. Central Park is also at walking distance (really close to the carousel).

It is difficult to justify giving this hotel 3 stars instead of 2, however the location and free bottled water are the only reasons I have given 3 stars. The location is great for Central Park and close to subway stations. The lobby looks amazing and well looked after, the same cannot be said for the rooms. The wardrobe door was hanging off, with the two on the hinges missing. The rest of the furniture is worn and damaged and needs urgently replacing. The rooms are generally quiet however the doors slam very loudly and this can be heard all down the hallway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Hotel Empire sign above the hotel is only half working and the pool area is in need of some TLC. There was broken glass around the pool area, which a member of staff kicked to one side rather than picking it up. Overall, for a hotel in New York which promised to be 4 stars, the empire hotel fell far short of 4 stars. We only spent a small amount in the hotel as we were out exploring every day so the poor condition of the room was manageable. For the price we payed there are other hotels which are far better.

Fantastic hotel. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Set in a great location. The room we had was very clean and maid service every day. The only downside was it could do with a little TLC. Furnishing/decor starting to look a bit tired. Would recommend this hotel. Many thanks for a fantastic stay.

Great location, great room location- center front, well decorated. Mr. Luis at the front desk during our check- in and during our stay was exceptional! The male staff were kind, helpful, polite and friendly, they made us feel right at home. It was reasonably priced and I'd definitely stay there again.

Unusual tiny bathroom. The room was clean with great view. But, no one answered when we called the front desk. The water from the shower flooded the floor because it seemed to back up, so we had to get extra towels to put down before showers. The hotel is in a great location, right across from the MET and Julliard. There was no breakfast, not even coffee, due to covid I was informed by the front desk.

The location is great, the staff is all very nice, and the rooftop bar/restaurant is very fun (but not operated by the hotel). The room was too hot, we had to keep the AC as low as it would go (55°) to sleep. We were on the 11th floor, thought we'd have a great view...but it was a strange inside corner and all we saw were into other rooms. So, blinds stayed shut. And then no coffee in room was a bummer as we had to go to a cafe outside, next door to get coffee and start our days. I don't know if I'd stay again... But we had a good rate, and again, great location... So I'd possibly just ask for an actual view and that might help a lot. 🙂

We booked a room for my son, who stayed in the hotel for 3 weeks, fully paid. The apartment he was waiting to move into became unexpectedly unavailable for another week. I tried to extend his stay with a new one week reservation. Manager Sara overruled her colleague's assurance the evening before that this would be fine by insisting that my son move out for 24 hours before my reservation would be honored. This was simply unfair and unacceptable. Naturally, I canceled the reservation for a refund. The right approach would have been to accommodate a guest who paid nearly $4,000 in room fees. But apparently, this manager thought otherwise. I wish I had a validreason to give a better review. But I don't.

Stayed here for a weekend and it was a nice stay! The hotel itself is nice, quiet, and well-maintained. The check-in process was quick and easy. The person who helped me was super friendly and accommodating! I'm super picky when it comes to the “standard of cleanliness.” The room was nice and clean but the thing I felt yucky by was the carpet in the room. I would suggest for the hotel to deep-clean their carpet in the rooms. I would stay here again but I would only walk around the room with socks or flippers.

My short trip was very pleasant and the location was very convenient. It is always good to see that the staff appears happy, because that means, they enjoy their work and they are well treated by the management. Shut out to Steven in reception: he made the first impression and handled the abundance of the check-ins with a smile and a very positive energy. The rooms could be a bit upgraded, I do lighting for hospitality so that side I always pay attention to. The corridors are moody for a reason but when it takes you a moment to find the slot for the key...you know it's a bit too dark. The public areas look rich and terrific. Xoxo GG

we spent a magical moment with our three children in the Empire hotel, a welcome with the greatest sympathy. In addition. For the occasion, the hotel upgraded us to a superior room, which made our stay magical. Thank you to your establishment for these unforgettable memories that we were able to offer our children, the rooms are spacious, the hotel is quiet and very well maintained. So yes there are small jobs to be done but seriously it did not damage the quality of our stay. Thank you again for all these moments. I hope to come back to your place very soon.

We had a great stay at the Empire Hotel! We are already looking forward to coming back! The location is amazing -- right next to Lincoln Center and all the wonderful arts events offered there and nearby in walking distance. Our room had a nice view and the beds were super comfortable -- not mushy at al! The staff was fantastic and the hotel has a relaxed vibe despite it's over-the-top decor which has it's own special high-energy appeal. The only negative was the hot water which was extremely hot -- on the one hand, this was reassuring because it speaks of cleanliness. On the other hand, if you had a little kid, this might be dangerous, so please, managers, at least warn people or re-consider that extreme temp. Thanks, Empire!

Reception and all greeters (and there were quite a few) are very professional and personable. Room was nice and in an ideal location. I was in awe of all that was around, including Target, Starbucks and Duane Reed for reasonably priced convenience items, The Lincoln Center for world class entertainment across the street, and great restaurants less than a 5 minute walk. Add to that the best price the weekend before Christmas and you could not do better. PS Metro station is a 5 -7 minute walk. It was so cool I didn't notice the time.

Really enjoyed the place. Had a lot of space. The vibes we're intimate and cozy. The food and drinks were really good. Service good. Definitely will be returning.

I went to Bed Bath, and beyond, below the Empire Hotel, but I have to say, I wasn't amused with the store. It has a small setting, not much to buy, especially during the holidays. I tried looking for various items, but couldn't what I wanted. It's a good place for an emergency quick, or last minute shopping

Friendly staff and nice lobby. Hallways to rooms were very dark, more lighting is needed for sure. Room key was difficult to work. Room was ok very tight space. Bathroom door would not close or lock. Shower drainer piece was broken and kept coming off. Tv in room didn’t work it states “network unavailable” room heater unit stayed on one temperature it appeared to not work no matter what we did to try to change it, and we had to open window because it was really hot. Overall some things need renovations especially rooms air/heater units. With a name like empire you think it will be grand but it’s very bland.

I had stayed at this hotel-horrible customer service as I wrote the hotel an email November 30th see below:and have yet to receive any sort of communication. Unprofessional and beyond rude. My husband and I chose the empire hotel as our honeymoon to celebrate our wedding in Covid. During these unprecedented times we were in hopes of a perfect getaway. Our checkin date was Nov 26-29, 2021. Our stay at the hotel was disappointing and did not lead up to the ratings and reviews that we had read prior to our stay. We were woken up at 7am-8am by the housekeeping staff vacuuming the hallway so our morning sleep was completely ruined. Our washroom was very small to the point where I couldn’t stand in front of the wash basin to brush, I had to stand in front of the toilet to do so. The next morning we were woken up by dogs barking in the next room and although my husband and I are heavy sleepers and have never had this issue before we could not get any rest. I am beyond disappointed as this stay did not live up to our expectations. This was our honeymoon first time we were out after Covid, we did extensive research and paid a premium for this room. I will be anxiously waiting for a response.

Came here for New Year’s Eve. Beautiful atmosphere! It has a rooftop bar, and a restaurant on the ground floor plus all the shopping on Columbus circle 3 blocks away is amazing. The staff here are very kind courteous professional and helpful 5 stars all the way.

The location is perfect. It was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We had a remodeled room and felt that the staff was very friendly. We were apprehensive because of previous reviews but ultimately we would stay here again.

First off, the hotel room is hideous. The artwork makes you want to vomit. The amenities are sparse, the bathroom has fixtures with rust on them, the shower pressure is weak, a gardening can would outshine it. The only saving quality is the body lotion which is high quality. Sincerely, A NewYorker

The price, location, cleanliness and the lobby is awesome unfortunately that’s where it ends. I checked in Dec 21st 2023 the room had no lights they were flicking on and off, the TV didn’t work and favorite there was no hot water until the morning of my checkout 12/23. I called reception day one they said a technician would come up to make repairs however he didn’t make it. They did refund me one night but why wouldn’t they I basically slept there like I was in a shelter no water, lights and TV. Did I mention the sink was detached from the wall in the bathroom see images. I tipped the Bellman $20 and the Housekeeper those were my two best experiences. The room is very clean and the linen and bed are made well! So whoever is leading the housekeeping team and Bellman team have them Train the GM of this hotel because the aside from that this is a sad hotel to book. Major renovation job needed here which is not the staffs fault either.

I really liked my experience at the rooftop last week at an event I attended. The sunset views from the rooftop are epic. Go just before sunset you will love it. The bar menu was limited. I hope they will improve that part. Good views should be complimented with good food and good drinks

Nice lobby and good location is the only nice things i can say. Parking is 3 blocks away at a garage that you have to call and ask about you can get a discount with voucher from the hotel. Rooms are small way different than the pictures. Room wasn't clean dust everywhere. They have no vending machines, coffee maker and no breakfast you will have to get all of that outside the hotel. They were very cheap with their renovations paint chipped everywhere basic wallpaper in hallways and very dark so you can't see the bad condition of the hotel. Thin walls can hear people in the hallway and the entire street. Cheap curtains and uneven floors in the rooms. Very disappointed and won't be back

Five nights before Christmas. Two rooms. Great overall! Very good location for us: Two subway stations a few blocks away, restaurants, Lincoln Center, Central Park, walked to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, short subway and short walk to Radio City walked back, etc. Staff responded right away to email notification about late arrival, we got rooms we requested, very fast check in. Not perfect: No AC in one room but they provided a new room the same evening. The windows open (good!) but leaked a little which could have been a problem. Our rooms were somewhat dated, but were very clean and plenty big (for New York). Plenty of power outlets for our too many devices. The mattresses were very good; we slept well. We'd happily stay at The Empire again.

Lobby is beautiful and the rooms are nice. It's also in a great location. However, be aware that there isn't a coffee maker in the room and there's no coffee provided in the lobby so you'll have to go elsewhere. There's also a nightly "residence fee" that covers things you would expect to receive at a hotel anyway like WiFi and fitness room access.

I recently stayed at The Empire Hotel for a few days, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. While there were some positive aspects, there were several significant issues that marred my stay. Check-in was a frustrating ordeal as I had to wait for approximately 45 minutes due to a malfunctioning phone in the room. The staff seemed ill-prepared to handle the situation promptly, and it was not until the next day that the phone was fixed, causing unnecessary inconvenience during my stay. Another disappointment was the lack of bed sheets and comforters provided for the sofa bed in the room. After requesting these amenities, I was surprised when they were delivered in a large black garbage bag, which was unprofessional and off-putting. Moreover, cleanliness was a serious concern throughout my stay. Upon entering the room, I noticed a spill on the sofa that had not been cleaned. Despite multiple reminders, it took the hotel staff two days to address the issue, leaving an unsightly stain for an extended period. One of the main attractions of the hotel was the rooftop, but to my dismay, it was closed for three out of the four days of my stay. Although I was informed that the closure was due to weather conditions, I couldn't help but question the validity of the explanation, as the weather appeared perfectly fine during those days. This lack of access to a promised amenity was disappointing and affected my overall enjoyment of the hotel. On a positive note, the location of The Empire Hotel is indeed pleasant, offering easy access to nearby attractions and amenities. Additionally, the hotel staff members were friendly and accommodating when dealing with the various issues I encountered during my stay. In conclusion, The Empire Hotel fell short of my expectations. The check-in process was marred by delays and phone issues, the cleanliness of the room was subpar, and the closure of the rooftop was a major letdown. While the location and friendly staff were commendable, they were not enough to compensate for the numerous shortcomings. I hope that the hotel management takes these criticisms constructively and works to improve the overall guest experience.

The rooms are not much to write home about, though the bed was comfortable. The hotel is pretty worn down for the location. The carpet is old, the bathroom didn't have a fan, furnishings are older and the room could use a paint job. The staff, however, are wonderful and the location can't be beat for access to Central Park, the Met, the opera and even Broadway. All in all, a fine place to stay for the price point, but dated. The unaffiliated rooftop bar is superb.

A nightmare from the start. No A/C in the room. Complained and a maintenance worker showed up, changed the filters and said there you go your all set. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Still blowing hot air. And this was after the 3rd call. Missed half of an entire day dealing with room issues. Finally after 8 hours of going back and forth to the front desk they made a decision to move us to another room. Told us to go pack our things and ca the desk when packed and they would sent someone to get out things. 2 hours later a man shows up with our new room keys and leaves. Does not offer to help with our luggage and the room was a downgrade from our original room and just checked the bill and there was no adjustment like they said they would do of 100 bucks a night off the price. Plus no coffee maker or microwave in room. Bathroom was so tiny and no tub. Just shower and water is hard to adjust. It's either steam or ice. Hallways are very dark and creepy. Looks like a great place for a haunting or maybe a new series of American Horror Story. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I absolutely adore this hotel. We had such a great 5 night stay. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the rooms were a very good size for NYC. They even had a fridge and an umbrella for the rainy days. The location is absolutely key. 1 block from central park and just 2 blocks from Columbus circle. The rooms themselves are a little worn. Some splintering in the wood on the door panel and wear and tear on the furniture but it's an older iconic hotel so it didn't bother us. We had a great deal on our room and I would happily only stay here from now on if we can continue to find deals on this hotel.

We enjoyed our stay! Read some reviews about worn bathroom fixtures: we did notice some elements of design in the bath which were worn, but the bathroom itself was clean, well stocked, and the water temps were just great. I wish in retrospect that we went to the rooftop bar, but there's always the next time. I do plan on returning. Proximity to Lincoln Center is a great amenity!

I stayed at the empire hotel for a girls weekend. We booked it directly on the website since there was a discount for paying in advance. The customer service on the phone was very helpful with making the reservation Upon arrive the doormen were very kind and welcoming The concierge desk was professional and accomadating. They offer free bottled water and late check out at 1PM the main lobby was impeccable. Very upscale and elegant with a beautiful marble grand stair case and a second level mezzanine. Once we got our room keys and got to the room it was clean and quaint. We turned on the air conditioning which we soon found out was broken. We called the service desk to have it fixed which they said they would send someone up. We waited for the engineer to come but they never did. The following morning we called again for service and this time someone came. The engineer was very nice but when came he took it apart he discovered it was broken. And said we needed a new one. He told us he would be back in a few hours and we waited but no one came. At this point we spent an entire day without Air conditioning on a very hot day. When we returned from our Outing we asked again for our air conditioning to be fixed and we were told they would send someone up. After waiting for someone to come for about 1/2 an hour we soon realized no one was coming and we called the front desk who then informed us they would be changing our room. We appreciate the room change however we were disappointed that they allowed us to spend an entire night of our two night stay without air conditioning Unfortunately the second room had a leak in the bathroom which lead to puddles of water in the bathroom. Which we did report to the front desk. Other than that the cleaning service was very sweet and professional offering us towels upon request. Bedding was very comfortable. Views of the city was an added plus. They also give you a small refrigerator to store leftovers and their complimentary water. The roof top pool deck is very spacious with plenty of seating with a small brunch menu. And larger drink and lunch menu. The flat bread was very good. It also has gorgeous views of the NYC skyline The pool itself is small and unheated but offers plenty of sunbathing space with cushioned lounge chairs. We didn’t get the chance to experience the roof top restaurant but would have loved to. Overall the hotel is beautiful however, the building is old and requires updating of the pluming heating and air. And it would be nice if we were offered discount or upgrade for the issues we faced.

I didn't stay in the hotel. I had brunch at the Rooftop restaurant. The food was excellent and the drinks were good. Pearla was a great hostess and I will definitely return soon. The hospitality manager was very accommodating. Thank you so much for making my birthday a great one!

This was a trip for 6 ladies. The hotel is in a nice area of New York City. We felt safe. Walking distance to most sights. However it rained so Uber was our friend. The hotel is older but the room was spacious and clean. All 6 of us were able to stay in one room. The rooftop bar and lounge was wonderful, wish we could have sat outside. Service was great. Cannot beat the price. Would recommend it.

The hotel's aesthetic is stunning. Guests are greeted by a luxurious and contemporary lobby that sets the tone for the experience. The overall cleanliness of the hotel is noteworthy, and we were pleasantly surprised by the room's spacious layout. The only drawback was the compact size of the bathroom. However, this was more than compensated by the view from our room. The location is also a plus. Public parking is available in walking distance.

This hotel has only a beautiful lobby and a good location. This is where the advantages end. Small, narrow rooms. We stayed for several days and it was very cold. The air conditioner did not work for heat, I asked to fix it or give me an electric blower. Of course, they forgot about it, I had to remind them and only spend the evening in a warm room on the last day.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at this hotel, partially for business and an additional night on our own. We ended up sleeping in two different rooms, both with their own sets of problems. The first room had a broken Roman blackout shade that we could not raise, a refrigerator that was not very cold, and had no way to adjust it, and the bathroom sink was missing a drain plug and the faucet was hard to operate. We made multiple request to have the shade fixed so that we could at least see outside. We had a fantastic view, and would also liked to have some sunlight light in the room during the day. We were eventually transferred out of that room after one night. The second room had no refrigerator at all, the safe did not work, the A/C worked okay but the nights were chilly, and the heat needed to be turned on, and it was noisy. We made multiple request for refrigerator in our room because we had bought drinks and some fresh cut fruit from our previous room and had no place to properly store it. The hotel lobby was stunning and both of the rooms were nicely decorated but kind of run down. While I understand that older hotels in New York City have smaller accommodations, the upkeep on the rooms left much to be desired. There was peeling and bubbling wallpaper in some places as well as chipped paint. On top of everything else when we got home after our trip we were hit with an additional “residence fee” of $260 on top of the regular room rate. I’ve learned that this is like as resort fee, but I’m not really sure how this hotel can be considered a resort when the lobby bar was never opened, room service was nonexistent, the pool couldn’t be used (in November), and the rooftop bar and restaurant is not officially part of the hotel. To end on a pleasant note, I'll commend the hotel staff, especially the doorman and Bell Hops and the cleaning staff as they were polite and professional and the location was the highlight of the trip. The counter staff did the best they could and I hate that the people who own and manage this hotel have left them a slightly shabby and overpriced establishment to have to constantly apologize for and I hope they can move on to a better situation. As I mentioned this was partially a business trip but if I had to spend my own money for this hotel, I would not consider it worth returning to without some investment in improving the accommodations.

Stayed here for two nights, and based on the reviews, I had some idea what to expect. As noted, the rooms are small, like what you see throughout Europe. I was on my own, so this was fine for me but if you’re traveling with someone, you’ll be on top of each other and not in a good way. The one place where the small size was an issue was the bathroom. It’s so cramped that you have to stand to the side of the vanity. There’s no room to stand in front of it, even if you’re small (see pic). Also, there’s a small step up into the bathroom (pic 2). It didn’t cause a problem, but if you’re not careful, or if it’s the middle of the night, can seriously stub a toe. The Empire is an older building and it shows, but I thought things were generally in good shape with one exception. The was no power to most of the room’s outlets, and the one I found that was working took much longer to charge my phone than usual. On the positive side, the Empire is in a great location, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I’d consider staying here again if was traveling solo and could be more confident in the power outlets.

The hotel has no amenities at all in rooms. No ice. No coffee. But what it did have was an incredibly comfortable bed and great shower. Location is unbeatable. Especially if one has to get dressed and leave hotel just to have coffee

  • 2/5 Caroline W. 8 months ago on Google
Was mostly a good experience. We had issues adjusting the thermostat in the unit and had staff come up to assist only for us to discover that it was not able to be controlled. It was either extremely not or freezing, nothing in between. And in the shower one of the nozzles on the shower head was broken so it was a little difficult to shower effectively. The bathroom vanity was also installed on top of the wall plug in the bathroom which was concerning.... Like was this place updated to building code? seems like an issue...... But the bed was clean, they brought us extra sheets for the pull out couch, it got the trick done. That being said, if I had it to do over again I would book at the Westin down the road for cheaper.... Wasn't worth $1239 for 2 nights...... The westin was likely much nicer and it was definitely the cheaper option.

This hotel boasts a great location with a great view. However, the menu is very average, and they only offer dairy milk for coffee. The food is just okay. On a positive note, the staff downstairs is amazing, very friendly, and talkative.

Overall the Look of the place, great. Inside, curtains fell down and shade was filthy and not working. Bathroom not stocked with Tp.!! No coffee offered in room or lobby, but coffee cups in your room. Rooftop bar is awesome. hostess at rooftop bar easily annoyed with people who are supposed to infer that the L button won't take you to the lobby. But LR will? How would we know that. How about a sign "in the elevator." It's the little things ignored that make a huge difference. Love the rooftop, not the hotel.
