This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. In addition to the great food, the relaxing setting (music, decor, ambiance, service) always makes me feel like I'm visiting a food "spa". After coming here for dinner many times, we finally tried the brunch today and oh boy this was the best brunch I've ever had. The savory waffle and vegetable pancake were amazing and so tasty that we swallowed the food. Both (and everything on the menu) were free of refined flour, made with quality house made ancient grain flour. The carob cake and the very long name tea that tastes like hot chocolate were incredible. The cake especially was the best "chocolate" I've had (refined sugar free!). We even saw the chef Divya at the restaurant today!

Recently I returned from India and was invited to a friend’s home in NY and she served an absolutely delicious lunch that came right out of Divya’s first cookbook. So I had to make the Great Pilgrimage to the base of 1st Avenue in Manhattan to actually eat at Divya’s Kitchen. OMG (X 100). This was, hands down, the most delicious, nutritious, conscious Indian cuisine that I have ever had (including in my many travels through India). The staff was friendly, the environment peaceful, the food superb. Don’t wait to go there. Just go!

Soft, beautifully decorated, calm music, piece full service, actually very good service. Divine food and If you want glass of wine they have it. I love this place tried breakfast but i have to do dinner as well. Two of us were absolutely happy with everything, my girlfriend was super happy. I was excited to try it and after brunch the first thing I said was: we have to come back here.

The food was very average for its pricing but the ambiance was excellent. We got the spinach cheese appetizers and the vegan lasagna. Both were 7/10. It’s a beautiful restaurant.

I’ve been here a few times already. It only gets better! Their approach to cuisine is pure and honest. It’s never heavy with lots of salt or butter like traditional restaurants. The dishes are delicious and super healthy with great balance! Ingredients are always fresh, organic, seasonal and super tasty! You have to understand Ayurvedic to understand how the food can compliment your gut!

I suppose this review is repetitive as many others have shared similar dishes and their experiences. I must say my waitress I believe her name was Meccan, made my experience so much better! I eat mostly vegan, but the spinach cheese curlers had to be tried out. This restaurant does not disappoint, very affordable, offers great seating options. I enjoyed eating outside with a well balanced meal and fairly healthy dessert. I will be going back for sure!

Amazing food. Great ambience. The vegan lasagna and biscuit with ghee were phenomenal. They were also so kind and didn’t charge us for our chocolate mousses! Highly recommend this place! :)

This is my most favorite food place I’ve recently discovered. Very well balanced flavors and you can tell everything was prepared with love. The veggie bread and lasagna were phenomenal.

I really wanted to like this place! Some of the reviews and photos made it seem amazing. However, the vegetable curry was such a disappointment. The make your own bowl was also poor. Sides and entrees were ok. The waitress was great and the ambience too!

This is an appreciation post. I've actually been here a few times and not only do I spend some of my days dreaming about the wholesome food but I constantly replay my first ever experience at Divya's kitchen. It is absolutely the apotheosis of casual dining. It's a small quaint restaurant in the lower east side that could easily be missed if you walk by but the energy mystically calls to you similarly to how in cartoons the scent wraps around your nose and entices you to follow it to it's source, yeah it's pretty amazing what's going on in that place. The atmosphere is always so chill, it is literally my happy place. The dining crew is so attentive and the food, oh my god, the food doesn't make me feel like a snorlax after I'm finished eating. Chef Divya cooks up clean wholesome food– good for the body, good for the soul. Just the right portion without overpowering flavors, like the whole thing just does it for me. Plus, she's also a very personable individual. Wait time is quick. No complaints. If you sign up for the newsletter you get the inside scoop for classes, events, not to mention promo codes! It's the perfect place for a date... even if it's with yourself honey! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Atmospheric, healthy, ayurvedic. I especially enjoyed the Chai Latte and crunchy romaine salad. The lasagna and curry were good, though I wasn't blown away by the flavors but I'm sure that's because it's meant to be that way because their philosophy is about balancing the body through an ayurvedic approach. Note the wine is dealkalized. Would recommend if you want something calm on the digestive system. I'd also suggest finding out your dosha and ordering something that helps you balance it, which they note next to the menu item. Very gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan friendly. Save some room for dessert! The rose mousse was delicious.

All the way downtown, worth a trip. The atmosphere is very serene, comfortable chairs not too close. The menu has a lot of choices, healthy vegetarian options. Loved the ginger tea. The eg lasagna was very popular amongst most customers. The prices are good for manhattan restaurants. The food is is very tasty.

Came here for lunch with my colleague, the owner from what I gathered wasn’t so bothered with the welcoming and entry. but the staff were friendly. Decent Selection of vegetarian dishes which was refreshing while visiting New York and tired of all the meat dishes. Worth a visit if you’re around or looking for vegetarian food.

Lovely meal last night - it was full but not noisy, possible to have a decent conversation without shouting - a rare find these days in NYC! Nice lighting with candles. Friendly, fast service. Delicious home-cooked-type food, very fresh & healthy, big portions. Almost vegan but with cheese options. Mostly Indian dishes but some Italian style. Tasty without being salty or oily - another restaurant rarity! Looking forward to going back!

Absolutely fantastic Indian whole food (prepared using Ayurvedic principles) in a casual but classy venue served by the most patient wait staff who are happy to talk through ingredients and dietary requirements etc. We're lucky we arrived just as they opened as the restaurant filled up really quickly with an eclectic group of people. However they continued to serve with a smile patiently getting meals to tables without long wait times. We found the food to be really light to eat, yet flavourful. We washed our meals down with the Fresh Ginger and Ayurvedic teas which were great for the rainy spring weather of NYC. We finished with the pistachio nut fudge which were perfect bite sized nuggets of nutty goodness!

The best I’ve ever felt after a meal, was after a meal from Divya’s. It’s not food that’s tasty because it’s heavily seasoned or fried, it’s delicious because it’s fresh (almost all organic) and expertly crafted. There is no deep fried food in seed oils but instead pan fried with rich ghee (like the nori paneer appetizer). The desserts are also fantastic, so don’t be afraid to treat yourself. In a city like New York, there is no better restaurant to bring you back into balance.

Great vegan curry. Abundant and flavorful. The hummus with crackers were good, although it lacked a bit of spice in my opinion, whether it be the crackers or the hummus, a pinch more of flavor would be nice. We ate very well and the service was good.

Fantastic place for vegetarians and vegans. The desserts were beyond any expectations: I could taste real ingredients and not added sugar like in all other "traditional" desserts. Will definitely come back and recommend to all my friends. The place itself has a nice design and music was not too loud or distracting. Outside sitting is somewhat limited.

Good atmosphere and interesting sounding menu. Obvious care put into keeping things healthy and vegan or vegetarian Tried a few dishes but unfortunately found them to be pretty lacking in flavor and the overall taste is the most important part.

The food was really good and healthy. I would recommend this place to people who are looking for healthy food and don't want to compromise on taste while doing so. The desserts here were to die for so definitely recommend you try out their desserts. It was the right amount of sweetness, not too sweet and not too bland. Will definitely come back here.

This is a fabulous place. Serene interior, soothing music playing, very earthy. There are SO many food options I had trouble choosing! Finally decided on the vegetable soup with a side of the gluten bread and ghee. Perfect to warm up on a freezing day. I really enjoyed the spinach-cheese cutlets as well. The Ayurvedic chai was also lovely. Everything was so tasty! I got a side of paneer and loved the accompanying sauce. I got the pecan cookie for takeaway: salty/chocolatey/crumbly. I will definitely return.

I recently dined at Divya's Kitchen, and let me tell you, this place is a gem in the heart of New York. You walk in, and immediately you're enveloped by a calm and tranquil atmosphere that's a stark contrast to the city's hustle and bustle. It's like stepping into a sanctuary dedicated to the art of nourishing both your body and soul. Now, about the food. I had the Vegetable Curry in Cashew Sauce with white rice, and it was absolutely divine. The flavors are well-balanced, and you can tell that each ingredient has a purpose. Yes, it's a bit on the pricier side, but what you're getting is an unparalleled blend of taste and health. The menu itself is an experience; it's centered around the Ayurvedic lifestyle, categorizing dishes by Ayurvedic body types, which adds another layer of depth to the dining experience. Beyond the food, I even took a cooking class here, and I can't recommend it enough. Whether you're a culinary novice or a seasoned home chef, there's something to learn and enjoy. So if you're looking to treat yourself to a meal that's as nourishing as it is delicious, make your way to Divya's Kitchen. Your taste buds—and your well-being—will thank you!

Skip the biscuit. Spinach and cheese is great. Lasagna is something special. Enjoyed my experience here. It’s all veg or vegetarian which was fun to enjoy some meatless dishes and for my two veg friends. It would have been amazing if they had cocktails too :)

Excellent place, good food. We tried the Spinach cutlet, Nori rolls, Paneer Palak Bowl, Spinach Kitchari. Serving was great, loved the ambience and they have a very interesting unique menu. We landed there looking for Indian restaurant, but ended up having a good meal. Will go there and recommend anyone looking for a good flavourfull food.

We were drawn in by the name of the place and I’ve now found my favorite dessert- The Coconut and Carob Cake!! (and excellent coffee which I chose to sweeten with a little almond milk and maple syrup). We also had the Creamy Vegetable soup which was simple and nice for a cold day, the Paneer Nori rolls were quite interesting in concept but tasted like regular paneer pakoras. Overall the good was decently filling and felt very nourishing. Bonus: The music and decor of the place was excellently soothing!

Made reservations for a table of 6 for 7:15 pm on a Saturday night, and the place was fully packed. Nice, cozy set-up with some soft music in the background and noise levels at average is how I'd describe the ambiance at Divya's Kitchen. The menu is very inspired by Ayurdeva and focused on Dosha's (The five elements combined in pairs to form the three bodily humours) - but I couldn't quite translate/figure out how the food combinations contributed to the dosha's. Food overall is very much on the sweeter side, which my biggest disappointment. We ordered a few small bits which consisted on Spiced Coconut Chips, Spinach-Cheese Cutlets, Paneer Nori Rolls, and Roasted Sweet Potatoes. The table enjoyed Chips and the Paneer Nori Rolls were my favorite. The Roasted Sweet Potatoes went really well with their spicy green chutney - which was my absolute favorite of the evening! I was having chutney shots towards the end of my meal! For mains, the winner was the Season Kitchari ($18 + $6 Paneer Protein) - packed with flavor, followed by Vegetable Curry in Cashew Sauce ($21). I got the Carrot Risotto ($21 + $6 Paneer) - which was disappointingly on a sweeter side, but filling enough in terms of portion size. The sauteed leafy greens were forgettable, but the basil-parsley pesto was packed with flavor. The extra protein we ordered for Kitchari and Risotto again was on the sweeter side - quite disappointing. Service was absolutely excellent, attentive and friendly staff. Overall, we had a good experience, but might not return again. A definite one time try if you like a modern take on Indian food, on the sweeter side.

First: The food at this place is very healthy and surely homemade with lots of ingredients and effort - for European standards very big portions, but the dishes were in our opinion all nothing special and lots of vegetables were cooked for too long, there was no dish where we said: I have to finish this or I couldn‘t do that easily myself at home, therefore we finished no course, honestly: our recommendation; the chef should work on the basics and then travel to European cities and have a look at some good (vegan) restaurants in Bern, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris or Vienna… and learn from their expertise… the balance between acidity, sweetness, saltiness and other spices is crucial as well as different textures… moreover, the service should explain and promote what the kitchen is doing and what the overall philosophy of the restaurant is… however, the flair in the restaurant was charming and no dish was bad - every course was okay, the service was friendly… it‘s not a trap but also not particularly good.

It was a very small Lunch for me when I got there. I did have the Vegetable Bread and it was very good. The place was Nice and Quiet. Also, very authentic and decorative inside as well.

Delicious, super friendly staff, really nice place to celebrate, we took the 3 course set, starters were amazing, the portions for the mains are large, the mouse is heavenly

It’s a really cute spot and our starter was adorable. I just remember my main being very bland tasting. I unfortunately didn’t finish it, but took it home to add my own spices! My friend really enjoyed his meal though.

I will most definitely return. Delicious vegan food. Great vibe. Great service.

Disappointed that the veggie curry was not really made as described, it looked like it didn’t have any beets in it at all and that yellow lentils were used instead of red lentils. See pics for details, the lentils are the same color as the curry. Asked about this and was told it depends on the way it’s cooked but I guess I was expecting it to have beets to balance out the heavier curry flavors.

  • 3/5 Manan S. 3 years ago on Google
Not the best vegan places in terms of taste, but definitely worthy of their presentation. The food on offer is subtle and nothing very fancy (been from India and what they have on offer). Also, the place is bit pricy in terms of quantity of food. Overall i feel it is not that much worth the hype but if you still want to try, it is not the one of the bad options.

Good, therapeutic, nourishing food! I was visiting from California and made a point to visit this place after listening to Divya on a podcast. Ambience and service was very good too. I did not enjoy the tea(s) that much hence 4 stars. I was surprise to find out it was presweetened and did not come with a pot.

I was in New York for a week and had dinner here a couple of times. For the first dinner I ordered the Italian Prix Fixe. A few days later I ordered a simple soup with cheese curds (paneer) on the side. The food here is teasingly good. Every bite has just enough flavor to satiate your taste buds without overwhelming them. The portions were also significant and by the end of the meal my hunger was completely satisfied. A feeling I've never gotten from other restaurants. You'll actually experience what a satisfying meal feels like when cooked by pro chefs. Unlike with other restaurants where the pros design the food to keep you feeling hungry and wanting for more so they can take (steal) your money and leaving you unsatisfied afterwards. This place is worth every penny.

Food is so delicious. Stuff are friendly. Place is cozy and clean. I enjoy kitchari and veggie curry all the time. Highly recommended!

Got the prix fixe and it was totally worth it. The vegetable curry was the best I’ve ever had and the strawberry parfait was so fresh and good. The service was amazing too!

  • 4/5 Shalaka S. 1 year ago on Google
This place has a wonderful vibe. We tried the sunflower beet hummus, paneer nori rolls and the minestrone soup from the starters; vegan lasagna, palak paneer bowl, kitchari and a custom bowl with buttermilk biscuit from the mains, and pistachio fudge from the dessert menu. The food was execellent overall. We also tried the drinks menu which included Kir Royale, Tamarind Ginger soda, Ayurvedic Chai. The beverages being non-alcoholic is a major plus point! The menu highlights how the food impacts you and I thought that was a nice touch. The food is healthier when compared to your regular Indian restaurants. However, the vegan lasgna tasted good only after eating with the chutney that it came with. The minestrone soup wasn’t delicious either. All things considered, this restaurant is about healthy and conscious eating and it delivers on that. I would certainly recommend this place!
