An iconic New York jazz club, cozy and small in size. It's an old establishment, the tables are close together and the place feels a bit crowded. Despite this, the acoustics are very good. It is highly recommended to go on a Monday to listen the mythical big band The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. They offer two functions at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. It is convenient to get tickets online beforehand, although the location is then by order of arrival. Therefore, there is usually a queue at the entrance prior to each function and the situation is complicated in case of rain because there is no adequate protection. Currently they also require proof of vaccination to enter. In addition to the $35 admission, a drink is mandatory, the cheapest being a $9 beer. QR tickets are sent by email. A necessary visit for jazz lovers.

Great venue to listen to some of the most talented jazz artists. You breathe jazz history. We've arrived 45 minutes before the show and we had great seats to see Brad Mehldau quintet. What a treat. Drinks are reasonably priced for Manhattan standards and service was efficient and cordial.

I mean it's one of the revered jazz spots in NYC that is still standing. The acoustics cater really well to the type of music and the layout is simple and cozy. There is only a one drink minimum now and the staff is extremely friendly for NYC standards. Lol. Lastly the music and the musicians that play there are so top notch, you can stop by without even looking at the calendar and have a wonderful fulfilling time. Go! Enjoy!

Amazing jazz club with a lot of incredible history. It's an intimate venue and the sound is great. They pack a lot of people in there but the AC works well and there are good views of the stage. I saw Kurt Rosenwinkel and his band here, it was an excellent show. Definitely planning to come back regularly.

The place of jazz legends. Monday night with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly Thad Jones/Mel Lewis). It's a very intimate setting. With all that's been done here and the enormous shoes that have stood on the stage I would have expected it to be more expansive. But then, that's not jazz.

Iconic jazz club. They are open every nights for two sets (8 pm and 10 pm). Better to come early if you want front seats. 40$ entrance + 1 mandatory drink

My first Jazz Club experience and what a place to have it. Village Vanguard is a institution. It’s a great cosy basement venue and has booths and plenty of spots to watch some musical performances. We saw Kenny Baron and his band. 10/10. Great service from bar. We had a few Manhattan cocktails and had a blast. Visiting from the UK 🇬🇧

A great place for jazz in NY! Whether you’re a resident of the city or visiting for your first time it’s quintessential NYC. Old and musty and in a basement, all of which I mean as compliments. It gets crowded and feels so cozy but the jazz and sound are all great. Friendly staff. 1 drink minimum (which I’ve never been a fan of. The 120 ppl already paid $40 to go…)

We saw Aaron Parks on a Thursday night. We got there at 7:55 for a 8 pm show. We should have got there early. They gave us two small seat at the back. But it was cool. The show started at 8:20 . It was pretty much a one hour set. I wanted more. I thought it was short. But means it was a good show.

Trading off its history you go to The Village Vanguard to listen to great Jazz artists. That's the only reason. The place otherwise holds its patrons in contempt. Unless you are sitting up front, the sight lines are poor and the muddled acoustics are what you would expect to hear in a low-ceiling basement of a non-descript suburban home. One has the immediate impression that the people who run the place are going out of their way to give patrons absolutely nothing while charging ultra high prices for drinks with no food. The vibe is the same as you would feel if you saw owner and manager giving you a big middle finger with a smile on their faces. Sit down. Shut up. Listen to the music. Now leave. The venue's history is illustrious, which is one reason it still attracts some of the best Jazz artists to perform there but its accommodations haven't changed one bit since it first opened back in 1935. Some people may find the dinginess charming, while others may feel like they are visiting their great grandmother's house with knitted doilies covering the armchairs and the sofa wrapped in plastic. Because of its mystique, Jazz musicians will continue to perform there, but if you decide to visit be sure the headliner is someone you really want to see and prepare to suffer a little bit for their art.

Great little place for live jazz in the village. You can buy tix online or walk in. We did a walk in on a Tuesday night and although it was busy we were still able to be seated. Either way I highly recommend showing up early (30 mins or more) in order to get better seats. $40 entry + 1 drink minimum which could be as cheap as $5. Cocktails were $16. Band was great and played for approx. 90 minutes.

This is an iconic place to see live jazz in NYC. The music was superb. It is easy to find and everything about the experience is smooth. To buy tickets, you go to the website or you can try to buy them there before the show. I would recommend buying them online before hand. The venue is intimate and designed for a personal experience. I think maybe it seats about 150 people. Seating is first come first served but you are seated when you arrive. There is a line and those without tickets must wait in another line when the doors open to enter after people with tickets. So, waiting, you may lose your chance to see the concert. Inside, there is a one drink minimum. It includes soda. Everything is reasonably priced. It is beautiful and eclectic. It is a very personal experience. I felt pleasantly surprised that I was on a list of guests and then seated. I just assumed it would be anonymous. That was really nice. The waiters sees everyone in an order that is amazing to watch, ensuring that everyone is served. There are maybe two waiters and it all goes by so quickly. When the performance begins, you are transported to a timeless space. Note there are stairs leading to this basement club. There are no other entrances. No food allowed. You might get to only order once so if you want two drinks do it in advance. There is sparkling water but no bottled water. Many different bourbons.... I used Uber to arrive. In the area, it was so fast to get one-- even on Sundays. As soon as I exited, someone arrived within three minutes. If you get hungry after, there is pizza next door and many restaurants in the area though I did not try any.

We visited Village Vanguard for a jazz show. We bought tickets online at the last minute and showed up just in time for the show. We were extremely impressed by how efficient and friendly the whole operation was. We had basically no wait at the door, after which we were seated quickly with a great view of the stage. Our server was so friendly, upbeat and seemed appreciative of having us as customers. The bar is small and the drinks took a bit of time to arrive due to heavy demand, but that was more than made up for by the acoustics and music. We appreciated our time here and will be back!

High quality roots jazz! Cozy atmosphere for a few people, all comfortably seated. The bar has classic drinks for a fair price and great service from the staff.

The legendary club where all the greatest jazz players have passed through, the Vanguard is more affordable than its NY cousins, the Blue Note and Birdland, with truly reasonable ticket prices and drink menu. It is hard to be more intimate with the artists than in this magical venue.

Lovely place. Underground cozy and intimate venue with dim light and incredible talented musicians. Drinks options were average. No food menu Book online to avoid long wait line.

Great jazz in a cozy club. Table service only which was slow because there was only a couple servers for the whole place. Drinks were great and music was amazing. Didn’t get too many photos as they asked not to use photography.

Different show every night in one of the most iconic jazz venues. I can’t think of anything else more appropriate to unwind in the city than to enjoy a drink listening to the fabulous artists present here each night. It can’t get any more New York than this.
