The iconic steakhouse in Brooklyn just across the bridge. Cash only in this classy establishment but well worth the trip to the ATM. Wow, this place is an experience. Our waiter worked there for 40+ years and did a tremendous job. I love how the food comes out steaming. They plate everything for you and tilt the plates just enough to where all the juices flow to the bottom, perfect for you to dip each bite for a little extra oomph. The bacon is a must order as far as sides go. Incredible with the steak sauce. Be careful on the bread as there’s plenty of options and they all taste amazing. Don’t want to fill up in that stuff. Some of the best steak and lamb chops I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back.

This place exceeded expectations. It feels like an old steakhouse, which it is, so it had a certain charm to it. Steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, a little on the rarer side of medium rare. Onion rings were incredible, fries were good, and the bacon was also awesome. This was easily the best steakhouse experience I’ve had in a LONG time. Well worth the price.

This was a true experience! We couldn’t wait to come to New York to come here and eat some steak! The food was phenomenal, from the steak to the salmon, to the lamb chops to all the sides! Everything was absolutely delicious! Make sure you get the creamy spinach as well! The service was the highlight! The staff is super attentive and makes sure your happy with everything you order. I high recommend without a doubt!

100% one of our best meal in NYC, with reasonable price on very quality aged-steak. Steak itself is really nice with very juicy texture and excellent handling on cooking. The German potato rosti is absolutely a plus together with the oil on the steak plate. Crab cake is another must order item, with massive amount of pure crab meat, and crispy skin outside. Very recommended restaurant even if we wait quite a long time no matter we booked a month ago.

$600 + check, waiter makes funny jokes about what’s the proper way to eat steak and then steak comes completely missing the cooking term/level we wanted (medium rare). Attaching pics for you to judge. Sides? Amazing… we ordered a salmon that was very good, spinach cream, German potatoes, French fries, all great when it comes to the sides BUT….. this is a steak house y’know what I mean?? The steak is def NOT the greatest, on the cooking term and on flavor meh. We got 2 orders for 2 people each. Waiters are very polite, though if you want to make a change on a dish he replies “the chef won’t do that” well, the chef also won’t follow a client’s right to eat a steak medium rare. Cocktails are yummy👍 Coke is served hot with a cup of ice 🙄 Also, come prepared because it would be at least a $150+ check per person and they only take cash so. Will come back? Nope.

One of the best steakhouses we have ever been!!! The spinach is so creamy and the steak is fantastic! The steak is a bit crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. It is definitely to die for! You just want to eat and not stop. Highly recommend!

Portions are family style and huge so I def suggest getting less than you think you need. The bread and butter were cold when brought to our table (but it’s a steak restaurant so although I was disappointed I wasn’t too put off). The steak was soft and juicy. The salmon was surprisingly delicious for a steak spot. My favorite of the night was the lamb chops. It was more flavorful than the steak in my opinion. Drinks were a little pricey but good. Also you HAVE TO TRY THE THICK CUT BACON. It’s worth every dollar we ordered it twice 🥓🥓

Venturing to Peter Luger, bedecked with Michelin stars, evoked great anticipation. However, despite its status as a quintessential New York City establishment, it regrettably falls short, beset by various issues such as chipped plates, soiled napkins, and stained menus, which may have contributed to the loss of its coveted Michelin accolade. While the steak is undeniably commendable, it does not ascend to the zenith of my culinary experiences. A visit to Peter Luger still earns a place on the gastronomic bucket list, but one must acknowledge the plethora of enticing steakhouse alternatives that New York City graciously offers.

Visited on 6/20/22 and the food was incredible. Best ribeye I've had a restaurant. Most places over-salt or over-season the steak and the steak is a passenger on the flavor train. Not the case here. Steak was a perfect medium rare and practically melted in my mouth. Their in house steak sauce, some take on cocktail sauce added another dimension to the taste but I preferred without. I was going to give 3 stars however due to the aggressively mediocre service. Our server seemed like he didn't really care and was even slightly insulting at times. I get that this a great restaurant with a Michelin Star and all but we definitely didn't get Michelin Star service.

Peter Luger Steakhouse is a legendary establishment in NYC and a must-visit for steak enthusiasts. As soon as you step inside, you’ll be transported to a classic, old-school atmosphere where the waiters, true professionals, cater to your every need. This cash-only steak icon is renowned for its aged beef and burgers (served during lunch only), making it a true gem in the city. Now, let’s dive into the culinary delights I experienced. The Creamed Spinach was a delightful side dish, with tender spinach enveloped in a rich and flavorful sauce. It perfectly complemented the star of the show, the Steak For 2. This USDA Prime Beef steak, selected by the family and dry-aged in-house, was cooked to perfection and oozed with juiciness. For the true steak lovers out there, ordering it rare is an absolute must. If you happen to visit during lunch, don’t miss out on the Luger Burger. This massive, over 1/2 lb. USDA prime burger on a bun is a force to be reckoned with. It’s a must-try for anyone seeking a burger experience like no other. And for a sweet ending to your meal, indulge in the traditional Viennese delight—the Apple Strudel. This flaky pastry filled with fresh apple filling is a nostalgic treat that will leave you satisfied. The attentive servers at Peter Luger Steakhouse ensure that your dining experience is memorable and enjoyable. Located away from the tourist crowds, this hidden gem lets you savor your meal in a more relaxed setting. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this iconic steakhouse should be on your New York City itinerary. Rating: Food 4.8/5, Service 5/5, Ambience 4.5/5

February, 2024 UPDATE: Regarding my review below, I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars for Peter Luger Steak House. In January, I reached out again to the Peter Luger Steak House regarding the issue below this time speaking to David (I believe he was a manager). I sent him the photos below and requested a refund just for the undercooked burger. After some time, a refund was provided. David was friendly and professional, and I am very happy with the outcome. Thank you David for handling this matter. I would definitely give this restaurant a second try. We ordered 2 burgers (1 medium & 1 medium well with bacon) and fries plus dessert which were delivered via Door Dash (restaurant is less than 2 miles from my home). The medium burger was good, actually delicious the best burger I have ever experienced. However, the medium well burger was raw inside and the bacon was raw. I called Peter Luger restaurant about it … they said it was a door dash issue. The order was correct and still warm, so not a Door Dash matter. The issue was how the medium well burger and bacon were NOT cooked appropriately. The lady at the restaurant kept referring me to door dash. It was clearly a problem with the cooking at the restaurant. The lady kept putting me on hold, and I have been on hold for 30 minutes now trying to resolve this issue. TERRIBLE!!

Coming here was on my bucket list of steakhouses to visit and it did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a parking lot across the street reserved for this restaurant which was great since street parking can be tough to find in this area. The waiting area was a bit crowded but we were still able to grab a quick drink and I ordered the Luger Lager, essentially a hoppy lager that’s the closest thing they have to an IPA, and it was delicious and started off the experience on the perfect note. Our table was ready within 5-10 minutes and we were brought up to the second floor to be seated. The menu is limited and straightforward. We ordered the steak for 2 and two side orders - the creamed spinach and the German potatoes (think basically home fries) with a couple glasses of wine. Everything was delectable. The service was incredibly friendly and the waiter even offered to put the bone in a doggy bag so I could take it home to my dog for a treat. They toss some gold foil-wrapped chocolates on the table to cap off the meal. This place is definitely pricey - total cost for 2 people including tip was $250. Important to note that they only take cash or DEBIT card (the ability to pay with debit card was a new addition and definitely easier than having to run to the ATM). Everyone should try this iconic place in NYC out at least once in my opinion. Overall, eating here was a fun (albeit expensive) experience and I’ll definitely be coming back. Happy dining!

I believe it's a bit overpriced. The portion size was fairly good. However, I ordered my steak medium-well done, but it came out medium rare instead, and there was no apology. It seemed they were preoccupied with serving and chatting amongst themselves in a busy restaurant. Our order included a Caesar salad, creamed spinach, and steak for two. The salad and steak were satisfactory, but the creamed spinach was disappointing, essentially being plain spinach. On a positive note, they served complimentary bread with butter, which was a nice touch. Additionally, they offer a take-away option, which is convenient.

My family booked reservations here based on some family friend recommendations. We were staying in Time Square so it was a bit of a hike Ubering from Time Square to Brooklyn. We arrived a little early but the staff members were still able to get our table ready early for our party of 12. We hung out at the bar for 10 minutes getting drinks while they prepare our table. We were treated with such great service. Our food and drinks came out fairly quick. I don't eat meat but everyone else did enjoy the steak. I ordered salmon and it was delicious even though I couldn't finish such a big salmon on my own. We ordered other side dishes, appetizers and desserts. Everything was served well and tasted delicious. We certainly enjoyed our experience. The kids really loved the chocolate gold coins at the end.

Went specifically for one thing, the lunch burger! The rooms are filled with the thick scent of grilled steaks still simmering as they are walked through the dining rooms. The staff dressed in suits and fine serving outfits. The orders were rushed quickly to the tables, hardly an empty glass or a dirty dish on any of the tables. The burger comes out covered in perfectly melted cheddar cheese, still dripping with juices, sitting on a full ring of raw white onion and a brioche bun. Tagged on top with a ‘medium rare’ spike. Was the burger worth it? Yeah it was really good. I could done without so much onion (or at least grilled onions). I did not need an $8 piece of bacon, that could have been split if anything at all. Same with the fries, split them if anything. After all the bread rolls fries are really not very needed. If you’re in the area go check this place out. You won’t regret it. You will be surprised that 2 burgers (with the fixings) and 2 beers will cost you $100. But you won’t be sorry. Don’t forget your chocolate gold coins on the way out!!

My farewell to this place after my second visit. The first was part of my honeymoon in Christmas season, which, despite that our table wasn’t located too nicely, gave me a fond memory with our server who introduced his name, made us a good laugh (extra mile!). Returned again after 7-8 years, through COVID-19, it no longer required two months in advance booking to our surprise. My husband loves a good steak and we decided to come in for the new years. I don’t know what it was but the meat didn’t taste as good, and I think they receive too many Asians like me that my server honestly seemed tired to service us. I get that the porterhouse steak dish is heavy but he could have put it down more gently. He then cut the steak and brought in too close to my face instructing me to take photos. I wanted to eat and leave before my son was up so I didn’t have my phone at hand. I told him it’s not my first time here, but he insisted and I thought why not so took this but honestly.. looking back I just don’t feel too good. Neither my husband. When we were seated, we were saying how nice it would be to bring our parents when they visit us some day. But I think we are okay now with other famous steakhouses. My rating is based on the service received, value for money (which was okay but steep price increase) and the possibility of my return (slim or never). What a shame..

I’ve been wanting to make a visit to this NYC steakhouse institution since I moved here and I finally got my chance. They do keep the formula simple here - no frills German ale house decor, top notch service, and a simple menu of steak for 1, 2, 3 or 4 along with a short list of traditional steakhouse appetizers and sides. And it seems to work. The place was packed on the night we visited, as I’m sure it has been for much of its 100+ year history with customers crowded in the lounge waiting to be called into the surprisingly small dining space. All the food was wonderful. We started with two strips of bacon which were recommended as a starter by our server. You might think bacon an odd choice to start when the main is going to be a huge steak. I admit I did. But do not miss this! This is next level bacon and quite possibly the best I’ve ever eaten. For the sides we went with the creamed spinach and their special German style potatoes - both very solid. And the steak was excellent - served sliced on a super hot plate in its oil and juices that they pour over as they start you off with a couple of slices. But was it the best steak ever? For me I don’t think it was - but lucky for me, I don’t have to travel outside NYC for it either. All in all though, it was still a great experience that I’d recommend at least once to anyone that loves a good steak.

It was my first ever experience at this steakhouse and I was very excited. Old, rustic, traditional, interesting place. I would say prices are not insane versus the expectation based on their reputation. Ordered steak and rib steak. Rib steak is a bit fatter. Very large servings of wine under 20 per glass, very friendly staff. Great experience. I do recommend. It's not overrated.

Visiting Peter Luger is a must for any steak enthusiast. The classic New York steakhouse ambiance sets the stage for a memorable meal. The star is undeniably the dry-aged porterhouse – juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The staff's friendly demeanor and the historic setting make it a perfect spot for steak lovers seeking an authentic NYC steakhouse experience. Be sure to bring your appetite! Absolutely, securing a reservation is crucial, and it's reassuring to know that the quality of the steak at this NYC steakhouse is reasonably priced[50$-100$/person] compared to others. Enjoy your meal!

I came here after a really long time. My best friend and I ordered the porterhouse for two, mushrooms, baked potato, salad, and their chocolate mousse cake. Everything was fantastic. Being a Saturday night it was packed and we had to wait a bit for our table but all in all as good as I remembered it. Service was on point too! I love that parking isn’t such a pain as we drove from jersey and got a spot there easily.

July 2023: I've been told many times that I have to go try the steaks 🥩 here. I always thought it was a hassle to only pay in 💵. But I finally went and I had an absolutely fantastic dinner! We ordered the steak for two, which is a porterhouse. We chose medium rare and it came out perfectly 👍. Flavors were excellent 👌. I'm usually not a steak sauce kinda guy but the Peter Luger's steak sauce was really unique and tasty 😋. It tastes a little like the cocktail sauce you get on a crab 🦀 cocktail but with less tomato and more sweetness. I enjoyed the steak with and without the sauce. We also got the broccoli 🥦. That was also cooked very nicely. Overall, a really delicious steak dinner and I will definitely be back again for more delicious 🥩😋.

This is the steakhouse where all others now try to emulate. Till this day, Luger still set the bar for steak and now with their famous 1/2lb burger. From the minute you walk in and get that old world steakhouse vibe to their impeccable service and of course the meat, there’s simply nowhere else that can replicate. Keep doing what you been doing for 100 years. I will always be a loyal customer.

We celebrated my husband’s 60th birthday at this restaurant and it was a wonderful experience! Our steak was cooked to perfection and it was truly the best steak we’ve ever had. Everything we had was delicious including the bread, shrimp cocktail, Cesar salad, bacon, creamed spinach, broccoli, and salmon. Our server, Lorenzo, was superb as well! If you are looking for a phenomenal fine dining experience, Peter Luger’s is the place to go! We can’t wait to go back! Thank you Lorenzo for making our evening wonderful! We had a great time!

The bacon was amazing, but otherwise, it was a huge waste of $400 for the four of us. The service was alright, though I felt like we were bothering the waiter by being there. This place has been on my bucket list forever, and to have a meh experience was disheartening. On the plus side, my friends who live nearby joined us when we went, and they had never been. As avid foodies (one has a cooking show), they confirmed it wasn't just me having overblown expectations. I give them 3 stars for the management of such an enormous production, the delicious bacon, and the potential for a great and authentic experience. I may go back and try their burger, but I wouldn't waste $60+ on a steak from there again.

Bucket List item marked off. Delicious steak, prepared perfectly. Excellent creamed spinach, and the best onion rings I've ever eaten. Even the burger my wife ordered was amazing, despite being a well-done burger in a steakhouse. Great desserts to boot! Key Lime pie is a solid choice, as is the cheesecake.

What can I say about Peter Lugers that hasn't already been said? It's world famous for a reason. Every time I come here it's a great experience. Steaks cooked to perfection, great sides, great apps, attentive service. Will probably continue to here as long as they're open.

These photos speak for themselves. The Luger burger was amazing. A ground New York strip in the shape of a burger is such a great idea. Pro tip is use the steak sauce that comes on the table on the burger as well as the french fries. The bacon was very good with the burger definitely recommend it to get with the burger. This is a full meal with the burger fries and bacon. Prepare to be full

Overall, had a good dinner here recently! Hard to get decent reservations if not made far in advance but we able to secure a 9:15pm weekend dinner—the restaurant is still packed at this time! Got the “Steak for Two” for $135.90—it was cooked medium (med-rare to medium) and the meat was very tender, plenty for two people. Personally, I didn’t think the steak was seasoned enough for my liking. Got the Luger’s Sizzling Bacon Extra Thick, and that was so flavored, would recommended getting this in addition to the steak of course! The Creamed Spinach was good too. Staff were friendly and the food came out fairly quick.

A meal at Peter Luger was like taking a step back in time. From the first step in the door, you are transported to a moment in New York history. The restaurant has a very classic and rustic atmosphere to it, only juxtaposed against the diners sitting within. We had the sizzling bacon, single steak, Luger burger, and the german fried potatoes. The burger is a lunch only item and the bacon and fried potatoes were great compliments but the star of the show lies in their dry aged steak. The porterhouse was packed with great beef flavor and is the quintessential item to order. Definitely enjoyed being able to experience a piece of New York history.

In my book, Peter Luger is the most iconic and best steakhouse in NY. I’ve been here few times already and every single time they’ve consistently delivered great steak at the right temperature (medium rare), never miss. Usually I am getting their signature porterhouse, but recently they just added bone in rib-eye for 2. This is perfect for me since I don’t like the tenderloin side of the porterhouse. As expected, the ribeye came out perfect. The portion is generous. Pairing this with their cab wine .. it’s heaven.

Heard that the burger at Peter Luger was one of the best in NYC so we popped in for a snack. Note that they stop serving the burger at 4pm! Although a very simple burger, it was absolutely phenomenal. The patty was succulent, fresh onion gave it the balance it needed. The bun was soft and the perfect vehicle to highlight the meat. We couldn't resist a triple scoop sundae for dessert.

Honestly for all the hype, I was expecting a lot more. Firstly the decor and atmosphere is not as classy as I thought it’d be. The food had some highlights for sure, the crispy layer in the steak is great and the bacon was on point. Not sure how they got us to pay $12 for two slices of tomato and one slice of onion but I guess it was fresh? For the prices we paid, I just didn’t think it was worth it

Really an excellent experience! We came here with a reservation on a Saturday night. When we arrived a bit early, the bar was packed but seeing that I was pregnant the manager found me a chair to sit in until our table was available. The food was incredible and you can tell the servers have been doing this for their entire careers. A very special place with some of the best steak that I've ever eaten.

Been going here for 25 plus years. It saddens me to say this but this time it was not worth the trip. To be fair we went on a Sunday during covid. Steak was amazing but the sides where weak. The shrimp cocktail was just gross they where limp and slimy. I’ve had better coffee at the local Greek diner and the pecan pie was burnt. I’m not gonna rush back.

(Translated by Google) Peter Luger wanted to go once. Visited alone. Because you have to make a phone reservation, you can make international calls every day from the beginning of the month, but it is too crowded to connect. Reservation finally connected on the second day. Those who make a reservation can sit down immediately, but if they do not make a reservation, they seem to wait once even if they are not available. I wanted to eat a porter house and steak + hamburger for only one person, but I ordered only a single steak (creamed spinach also ordered). Naturally, it is quite similar to Wolfgang's, but the feeling inside the store including the table is quite different. From the location, there were not many business lunch meeting people compared to Wolfgang's. The medium rare steak is the best. The outside crunchy feeling and the inside juicy are irresistible. The steak sauce seems pros and cons but it tasted good for me. Maybe use it to change the taste on the way. The steak itself is red but surprisingly greasy. I'm full, but when I come here I have to eat "Holy Cow" hot fudge sundae and go home. It's terribly sweet and plentiful (price is more than a dozen dollars), but the cream itself isn't overwhelming. I'm a principle that acts in the tourist mode, but Mr. Waiter is very friendly to such Asian tourists, and he has a lot of Peter Luger coin chocolate after paying (although he pays the tip well). Since I visited in winter, it was a good souvenir because the chocolate didn't melt. I would like to visit again, but I would like to eat "Steak for two and three" with multiple people. And lunch-limited burgers!

Ask for Martin he was a great server and kept us laughing every-time he checked on us. This has been on my bucket list for awhile and definitely worth it. The bacon just melted in your mouth. The steak was charred, but still juicy and tender. The German Potatoes were good, they would be amazing if bacon was added to them. THE STEAK SAUCE WAS JUST DIFFERENT, LIKE I WOULD LITERALLY USE IT FOR EVERYTHING.

Iconic NYC staple and steakhouse. It’s still old school, but they’re coming along. For example, you can pay with a debit card now and they take reservations on Resy. The steak is delicious. Porterhouse for 2-5, medium rare and dunk the steak in the juices that lay in the plate each time. Start with a Caesar salad and have a few bites with the thick cut bacon. You won’t regret it. My side of choice with the steak is their German fried potatoes. The service is gruff and helpful. The food comes out quickly and is really tasty. This is definitely worth the experience. There is free parking diagonally from the restaurant. The J and M stop is a 5 minute walk away. Edit: If you arrive before 3:45, burgers are on the menu and they’re delicious!! With a trend towards smash burgers in NYC, it’s comforting to know a few spots still make a pub style thick burger!

I would recommend for the mains. The starters and desserts were good but not in the same league. The warm bread basket was a nice touch. The best dishes were: 1) the Steak 2) the German fried potatoes 3) the Creamed spinach 4) the bread basket The combination of steak, potatoes and spinach in a mouthful melted in your mouth. The waiter was pleasant and we were never left wanting. The wait time between starters and mains was a bit long. The upstairs area was pretty quiet which was nice for a big family dinner on a Thursday night. On the starters: 1) The tomato was a little bland. 2) The shrimp were large but nothing to write home about. The desserts - chocolate cake, cheesecake and sundae - were a bit too sweet for my personal preference but still solid.

Great service and food, today is my birthday and my husband brought me out to celebrate and the choice to come here was worth every bit of that amazing burger with fries. He had the lamb chop and he said that it taste really good, I would recommend eating here for lunch and the after meal chocolate that they give is good.

The most classic steakhouse in NY, no posturing, great meats - and an amazing sauce. Go for the thick cut bacon, go for the whip cream schlag dessert, get your steak medium rare - The plate comes in hot (you can always sear it up to medium if needed be). We make sure to go here yearly, the service and food does not disappoint.

It is a good place. Great steak but some staffs are not really kind. I mean if you visit NYC for the first time, it is okay choice if you know what I mean. But there are lots of other places with better service and taste too 😅

Still the best! You can’t go wrong with this steak. It’s the best in the city when you just want a good steak! Sides are great too, like Germain potatoes and giant shrimp cocktail. Tip the manager a $20 and you’ll get a table right away😉

The service was exelent the aged steak was cook to perfect medium rare nice crust on the outside and so juice. I had the Rib steak, Macallan 18 on the rocks and the Mango sorbet total $140.00 including tip, Cash. Covid-19 vaccination card is mandatory if you want to dine inside.

Of course this place is awesome, why wouldn't it be. Is your steak place better? Could be. But they don't have the people beating the doors down to pay cash for a steak dinner do they? Do do the lamb chops, steak, cream of spinach and German potatoes. Wash it down with a Luger Lager. Then finish off with apple strudel and some chocolate mousse. Lots of schlag too. You're welcome.

A classic NY steakhouse done right. Offers a straight to the point menu with reasonable prices given the quality. The waitstaff was friendly and professional. Our steak for 3 was cooked perfectly to order, was extremely juicy, and kept simple when it came to the seasoning; nothing extra outside of maybe salt to allow the natural flavor of the beef speak for itself. Put a cherry on top of your meal by ordering their hot fudge sundae. You won’t be sorry! Pro Tip: They only accept cash or debit so make sure you have one of the two before dining.

Peter Lugers is one of the most iconic and best steak house restaurants in New York. We’ve been here before but this time we tried one of their new items:the crab cake! The crab cake was good but I wouldn’t get again though. But you should still try it. But if you like crab I definitely recommend this for you because they put lots of crab in it. We have noticed that Peter Lugers has gone a little bit downhill over the years. Also we tasted that the medium steak had a more significant amount of flavor compared to other the medium rare. Overall Peter Luger is one of my favorite steak houses in NYC I recommend it if you’re in the area

Nice cut and grill of the dry-aged it is. Proper dining time would require advanced booking. The bacon was unexpectedly nice with some crust. The size for 2 would probably work best with a group of 3 or 4 if you are not a big eater. Then you could enjoy ordering something else to experience.

I recently dined at Peter Luger Steak House and have some mixed feelings about the experience. The meat selection is limited, with mainly ribeye and porterhouse steaks on offer. While you won't find options like the New York cut, the porterhouse I ordered was tasty, though not the best I've had. Price-wise, it's reasonable by New York standards, but I believe there are places where you can find better steaks for a more affordable rate. The restaurant's location in Brooklyn is quite accessible, especially if you're coming from Manhattan via subway. One thing I found odd was the wine glasses. Unlike the typical large French wine glasses you'd expect in most restaurants, these were different, though generously filled. On the positive side, the service was commendable. We received everything we asked for promptly. In summary, while my experience at Peter Luger was decent, it didn't quite live up to the high expectations I had, especially given the numerous recommendations I'd come across.

Cash only! Enter this restaurant with this mindset: “this is what a steakhouse experience feels like in 1887” and you’ll have a great dinner. The steak was flavorful and the drinks were stiff. Waiters were dressed to impress. Would come back when in Brooklyn again.

Wow!! What an experience. From the comforting ambiance to the sheer delicious food. Peter Luger is definitely somewhere you want to go to once. We had a reservation a month in advanced, came in at a not so busy time and was served right away with friendly staff. Towards the evening it became packed. The steak was extremely tender. Ordered it medium-rare and can say it came nicely cooked. The bacon was charred perfectly. Was not a big fan of the steak sauce, as it was sweet, but it went extremely well with the bacon. It was on the pricier side, totaling more than $240 for Steak for Two, 2 bacon and 2 teas (including tip). It's best to keep in mind that this is a tourist attraction so you are paying for the experience. Had a lovely time, can't wait to visit again. :)

Great porterhouse which they are known for. Recommend the spinach, but if you are saving a dollar, you can always pass on the appetizers. Their burger was good, the price was just a steep one to pay for some ground beef. Their stools and Schlage was rich and delicious.

We had a great lunch at PL. We tried different steaks. All top notch. The sides however weren’t that special, but I guess most people won’t go for the sides anyway. The service was great and really made a difference. Cash only, sorry but in the 21st century that is unacceptable.

Decided to eat at the bar because the bartender was fantastic and drinks were perfect. Had been wanting to eat here for years and it didn’t disappoint. Tomatoes and onions and a monster steak with an old fashioned to wash it down for lunch…didn’t need to eat again until breakfast the next day 😅

  • 5/5 Karl 3 years ago on Google
Best steak house you'll ever go to. Get some tomatoes and Luger sauce for an app. Then a steak of course. The steak comes to the table on a sizzling hot plate, with the first few pieces cut for you. You can continue to cook it to your liking, on the edge of the scorching hot serving platter. The bacon is a must-have; super thick. And get the creamed spinach side too. By all means get some schlag (whipped cream) for dessert and drag the complimentary chocolate coins through it. It comes with any number of actual desserts, just make sure you taste the schlag. And buy a bottle of Luger Sauce to take home, because you'll miss it. Then tip the waiter generously.

Very hard to get a table on the day but you can get one if you book ahead. went there anyway to have take out orders of their famous porter house/ ribeye steak, German potatoes and bacon. And it was worth the trip. every bite was heavenly. Steaks (medium) was done perfectly. It was yummy and awesome as my daughter described. Pricey but worth it esp on special occasions. I definitely will come back for this porter house steak.

It was a meat lover's birthday so where else should we go but a steakhouse! I've been at this branch once pre-yelp and I must say staff have gotten younger AND oh so entertaining! The staff we interacted with was funny, charming, kind, like they were born to serve! I really enjoyed them! Staff I didn't directly interact with except in passing was super pleasant and kind. When I meat (yes I deliberately spelt it that way it's a review on a steak house for god's sake!) Anyway, when I meat staff that is so amazing from the start, my experience always gets better! Now to the real meat. We were a group of three adults and two children and we ordered the steak for four "combo" especially as we all preferred medium. I think they made a mistake. It looked like steak for eight! The End.

One of the best steaks in New York for sure. The thick cut bacon is crazy, has the perfect chew and crisp. The steak is funky, juicy, and melts in your mouth. Service was also great! Loved the hot sizzle of the steaks coming off the broiler and right to the table. A very pleasant experience and I'll be back in a couple months for sure.

Great food, very tasty ,we got the steak for 2 for $117 very expensive for a piece of steak, but well why not it was my birthday, I liked the food but presentation was not the best, very old style and pretty simple, sit was outside so dress warm cause you are not allowed to sit inside,I loved the bread so good ,waiter was very nice,I truly had no issues ,parking wasn't too bad, park outside on the street ,but we went on covid time and winter , the bill for our table was $164 plus tips so if you going you need cash or debit card no credit card, there's a ATM next to it so you covered...enjoy your food.

(Translated by Google) I've tried the three best Michelin steaks in New York, I think it is by far the best steak house among them.. It does not make good use of the small table space in the large space, but it allows the guests to focus on food and people. I don't know, but it was great. Taste, atmosphere, service everything. Another place to go if you visit New York!!! I mean, what more is there to say about this NY institution?! The ribeye, the bacon, the creamed spinach, the apple strudel… it’s the stuff of gluttonous dreams! Grabbed a table outside with our dog and we all straight-up feasted. Our kind server Ion treated us like royalty. Thanks for an awesome birthday. 5 stars!!!!!

5*s cause I round up, it's more like 4.5. I had better dry aged steak at other restaurants, but it was still very tasty and a good serving size. The sides are kind of overrated. Bring extra clothes if dining inside, the ac is strong here.

  • 5/5 Mehdi K. 2 years ago on Google
The hype was real, the quality was up to expectation from a Michelin star steakhouse. I suggest ordering the bone in ribeye instead of their classic NY strip it’s way more tender and juicy, don’t forget to flush everything down with their homemade key lime pie !

If I could give Peter Luger Steak House more than five stars, I definitely would. Both the quality of food and standard of service is impeccable at this Michelin star rated restaurant. We enjoyed their assorted basket of bread for starters. The caesar salad here is the best I ever had. For the main course, we had the succulent bone-in rib eye steak that was cooked to perfection accompanied with German fried potatoes. The restaurant has their own homemade steak sauce that was delicious. We capped off our meal with an incredible cheesecake that's a must for dessert.

This meal was nothing short of amazing. The star of the show was undoubtedly the steak. The USDA Prime Beef was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful char on the outside and a tender, juicy center that practically melted in my mouth. The flavor was out of this world - rich and beefy, with a subtle hint of smokiness that added just the right amount of depth. But the sides were just as impressive. The bacon was thick-cut and crispy, with a deliciously smoky flavor that complemented the steak perfectly. And the creamed spinach was a revelation - rich, velvety, and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect complement to the rich, meaty flavor of the steak.

Great place! Hard to find a table. Book in advance. We got there and had some drinks at the bar. Cocktails and wine list is good. They also have draft beer. We were luck and got a nice table on the first floor by the window. It was a rainy day so a perfect match for a amazing lunch. We order a burger which was delicious (burger is only available until 4:00pm) We had the steak with fries and let me tell you this; it was cooked to perfection! Will come back soon!

Ordered the steak for two, creamed spinach, and burger with fries. The burger came first and was alright. Easily fell apart with medium rare doneness. The steak sauce complimented the burger nicely. The steak was perfect and cooked to medium rare. Delicious. The creamed spinach was boring. Definitely not what you get at House of Prime Rib in SF. Maybe healthier at Peter Luger ! We got dessert to go. Apple strudel with schlag on the side. The strudel felt doughy and underdone. Maybe our fault for traveling in the rain with it. Espresso martini was great.

I had an awesome time chowing down at Peter Luger, this classic steakhouse that's been around since 1887 in Brooklyn. You know why we went there – for their legendary aged American prime beef steak. And boy, it was out of this world. So tender, it reminded me of raw tuna. As for the menu, I didn't get too adventurous, just ordered a salad. But here's the deal, everything, even the wine, was served in huge portions. The only hiccup? They're old school, cash-only. Unfortunately, we forgot since we booked a month ahead (yup, you gotta do that). So we had to hunt down an ATM. We found one eventually, and it was totally worth it!

The steak for 3 was awesome. Potatoes and spinach also good. Their own sauce was great and the strudel with lots of whipped cream aka Schlag was also an experience. Cash only! For me worth the price, best steak I ever had and in Germany where I come from we have also some good steak houses.

First time to Peter Lugers. It’s a non- nonsense steakhouse with the regular steak house fixings. Was very crowded. Had a reservation and took about 15 minutes to get seated, which was great considering all the people waiting to get in. Food was good. Bread bowl was good too- especially loved the onion rolls. They had onions in the middle. Started with shrimp cocktail. Shrimp were beautiful and very large. I actually loved the shrimp more with the Peter Luger steak sauce. I don’t usually eat steak sauce with my steak but it was tasty and went well with shrimp. It reminded me of cocktail sauce with a little brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce, and a smoother texture. We then ordered the steak for 2 - it was a 24oz porterhouse. It was cooked well to our liking and is topped with butter. Needed salt but I appreciate being able to control the salt to my liking. We also ordered German potatoes (skillet fried potatoes with onion) and creamed spinach. Not sure if they use much cream overall in the spinach or if it is just cooked and blended to more of a creamy texture. Ended our meal with a hot fudge sundae with we were tempted by when seeing it delivered to other tables. And we were given some yummy chocolate at the end. Overall a nice experience.

Peter Luger is one of my Top 5 favorite restaurants since I started dining there in 2022. Amazing service as always. From the time of our arrival, Alan greeted us at the desk and made sure we were seated right away. Marian was our host and did not disappoint. He was able to make sure that our orders were take care of right away. Everything from the Tomatoes and Onion, to the bacon was very enjoyable especially with the sauce they brought out. We ordered a Porterhouse for 3 (Medium Rare) with German Potatoes and Creamed Spinach. All I can say is perfection. I enjoyed dinner more last night than the two times I was previously here. Thank you so much Marian and Alan for making our night at Peter Luger a night to remember.
