Don't. Edit: I was told this review wasn't descriptive enough, so here come the details. The place is *dirty*. As in: the walls and doors are dirty, heaters are rusty and the plaster walls are crumbling. There are signs warning that food in rooms is not allowed as it "attracts rodents and roaches". Perhaps the place would have less of an infestation problem if it were cleaned sometimes? Finally, in order to have food and to use the wi-fi, you are encouraged to use the common area. It has some benches and tables, as if it were used for preparing food. Vending machines are available if you can get over the smell of rotting garbage that fills the room. The people in the reception desk are aware of this as they burn incense to try and cover up the smell. Bon appetit. Oh, and hot water didn't work for me in the shower.

The worst hostel that I’ve ever seen. Extremely dirty places with cockroaches. The toilet is just a subsidiary of the hell. There weren’t toilet paper, soap. Everything is just extremely dirty. The rooms are small and untidy. The air conditioner was ancient and really noisy, so that was impossible to sleep in the room. Looks worse then a prison. Stuff is unpleasant at all. I tried to cancel the reservation after seeing the hostel, but they refused to return my money. I would never go there second time even if they pay me for that. It’s definitely worth to pay a bit more and find another hotel.

Even though this place is at the hear Manhattan and Central Park with everything you need. The service at this hostel is unacceptable. When I got to this place on the 4th floor, I noticed that the bed wasn't made so guy told me I can use the other empty bed. I said that was fine since assumed they were busy but it turns out the other guy in the room was told the same thing. The strange part was that the person who previous left the bed checked out of the hostel around 6:30 AM in the morning. 41/2 hours before check out! And I didn't get to this place until 8 pm and made reservations last night until 10 pm. So in practice they had over 12 hours to get this place ready and they didn't. Worse yet, trash in the room is not taken out and they don't provide blankets, towels, or even breakfast. Bathrooms are dirty as well. Please anyone if you ever come to NYC try not book this place until they start improving these conditions.

I have stayed at Jazz on the Park numerous times over the past year and each time was pleased. I REALLY DO NOT understand  these nasty - and which I found totally untrue - reviews posted here re Jazz on the Park. The staff at the front desk, the manager, even the cleaning personnel are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are clean, quiet; one time there was someone very, intrusively noisy but, when I complained? The staff "magically" found a way to move her - or had her check out - I forget which - but they promptly and with concern for my happiness? SOLVED the problem toot sweet! The rooms - we have only stayed in their private bunk bed rooms with shared bathrooms - albeit, somewhat spartan are quiet, comfortable and safe. I have NEVER experienced people in the lobby or common areas acting obstreperously. The other guests I alway find friendly. The shared bathrooms are always clean; likewise the shared showers which, given no one has - in all the say 20 - 30 times I have stayed here - only once has anyone been in - almost might as well be private and in your room. These unkind people who are posting bad reviews of Jazz? All I could think is why would they lie? I have decided they must work for other hotels nearby, who don't like the competition the pricing of Jazz on the Park is giving them - Jazz is always about $50.00 less than they offer. That is my only explanation I can come up with because they simply are untrue. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, clean room for yourself and a friend and dislike paying an arm and a leg? I would recommend Jazz on the Park - you will not come away disappointed and the staff will take good care of you!

Disgusting and if you think it won't be when you arrive you're wrong. Toilet backed up. Showers STINK. Sometimes no heat and you will have to go downstairs every single day about your key because it won't work continuously which is something they purposely do. Not every side of the room I was in had an outlet which sucked. I also was in a all female dorm and the girl had her boyfriend in the first day I came. If you like to live like a slob then this is the place for you. I also never received back my $61.21¢ overcharge because they don't respond to emails or phone calls so I wouldn't advise changing your arrival date.

Don’t support this business! Some of the staff they employ here are from outside nyc (usually South America) and they literally overwork them without pay or food. They are working 30-40 hours without pay and since they can’t afford nyc, they are stuck there until they can return to their country. These volunteers are from a trade working website but are being exploited as “volunteers.” Staff live together in bunk beds with four in one tiny room and overall the hostel is not clean. Spend your money elsewhere and don’t support labor rights violations.

Be kind to yourself, don't stay at this place. This place is terrible. The key card stops working everyday so you have to go all the way downstairs to change your card and then back so you can enter your room. There is NO WIFI in the rooms. NO ELECTRICITY either, the lights go off in the middle of the night every night, that means no heating, no phone charging, you have to go downstairs to ask them to fix it and maybe they won't do anything about it. I had no electricity in my room in the last two days of my stay. One gender restrooms at each floor.

Well I'm here right now. I landed late and didn't want to inconvenience family... so I booked here. It's big. Quiet. I opened door and ladies were already sleeping. Room is comfortable. Top bunk is clean, I have a pillow and a sheet. Perfect. It was pretty easy getting here From LGA. Good night!

DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION IN THIS PLACE!!!! This is my third day here. When we arrived, the employee who was cleaning the room made ours in less than 10 minutes. He just changed the blankets and took out the trash (well, some of it). Our first impression was that the room was filthy, and the blankets seemed to be dirty (or not well cleaned), and it is just the top of the iceberg. I woke up in the middle on the night because my legs were itching, and I got some BITES from one of the many insects that live with us here. I went to the bathroom, which has been obstructed for the lasts three days (I've been asking the workers to put a solution since I realized), to find that not only it was still clogged, but THIS (VIEWER DISCRECTION WITH THE PICTURES). EVERYTHING is nasty, old and basically risky for out health. The only good thing is the location, but the awful experience of staying here makes it unworthy. NEVER COME HERE.

Staffs are nice! I booked here because the Hi New York was full. The first and last time booking… Won’t come again. I come to NYC often. And have been all the hostels on the west side of the Central Park. This is the only one No towel($5 for rent) NO cabinet NO shower gel hostel. Not even curtains. I can clearly see people walking up and down the stairs outside through the small window above the shower room. The most puzzling thing for me is that I booked a bed in a room for six, believing that I paid the same price. But what happened with my bed ha??!

The cheapest in the city. It was okay there is no much to say. If you are looking for what you can afford, this is that hostel. Staff were really nice and coffee and tea is free for everyone. I stayed three nights. It was acceptable. Thanks.

My brother and I stayed in this hostel for one night and I think three stars is a fair review. We stayed in a private bunk bed room so I can’t comment on the shared room experience. The good things: the location is perfect and seems to be in a relatively safe and quieter part of NYC. The staff were relatively friendly and the room was clean. It is a very small room with just the beds, a table and lockers to lock your things in but it was perfect for our one night stay. There is heating in the room but it doesn’t seem like you have control over when it comes on. The showers and toilets were clean and I had ample hot water and water pressure. The not so good things: you will more than likely have to wait 5-10 min to be helped at the front desk but that’s not a big deal. What I found odd was that in their rules it says guests get a free towel when staying in a private room but when we asked we were told it was $5 each. There was also only a flat sheet and a pillow provided in the rooms which was not adequate for me in a NYC winter luckily the heating switched on in the middle of the night. To get to the women’s bathroom from our room you had to go through the stairwell which was a bit inconvenient. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to a student or young adult wanting to visit NYC at a somewhat affordable price.

I love the location of this place. Its very easy to catch the train anywhere. Staff is amazing. Omar the event coordinator was very helpful too. Helped me get around and showed me different places to go out. Also showed me around the city and recommended a lot different things to do as well. I will definitely be staying here again

First time in NYC alone and I was super nervous and terrified to stay in a hostel. Had no idea what to expect. But the staff and even the guests were super friendly and really made me feel at home. Especially during the holiday time, when it was needed. When you stay here, you’re not paying for the luxury. You’re paying for a warm bed, fresh water and company. I got to know the staff on a friendship level. We’re even friends on Instagram. The hostel has themed nights with a host that will escort you to the destination and back safely. The hostel was my home away from home. I would definitely stay again.

You won't see these photos on the website, haha. Dirty bathrooms. Weird insects in shower. Both soda machines steal $. Staff can't reimburse you. Walls with water damage. Some rooms smell like mold. It's cold. Room's heater doesn't work. Their website says towels included with stay (free). Wrong. They cost $5. Wi-Fi available? Sure..only in the lobby though. Not from your room. If you can't see the photos here, open the Google Maps app to see this place from my point of view.

The location is good, but that‘s basically all that‘s positive about this place. When we arrived, late after the earliest check-in time, our room was messy, bedsheets hadn‘t been changed, trashcan was full. We told one of the employees and she reacted in a very unfriendly way, we had to ask another employee to get another room. The rooms are „okay“ for the price in NYC, but the matress ist really bad, the beds are making a lot if noise at every movement and we did not feel comfortable. Also, the heater was going ok full speed, we could not open the window, as consequence the air in the room was very bad. The worst have been the bathrooms, not very clean, not well functioning, we even decided to skip the shower after we saw the facilities. For us it was a last-minute emergency option, but we tried to spend as little time as possible there. I don‘t recommend booking that place for your stay.

The bathroom is on the floor doesn.t work. The bathroom on the adjacent floor is for another gender. You have to clime 2 floors to get to the bathroom because here is no elevator. No towels, the chair in the room is broken. Then we moved in the floor was really filthy. We didn't want to go there except for just sleeping. Our worst experience ever. Don't be stingy, pay another $50 per night and find a decent hotel.

This place is fine if you don't care about sanitation, like at all. We booked a private room and we arrived to a room with two stripped beds, no sheets, no pillowcases, no blankets, only the bare mattress covers. Went to the front desk and was given one flat sheet and two pillow cases, no fitted sheet and no blanket. The floor was filthy, and there was trash under the bed.

Would not recommend. This place is just a spot to rest for the night. Probably the worst hostel I’ve been to. If you have a top bunk there is no outlet for you. There was not a functioning sink on the floor. Only one shower for 30+ ppl. Facilities were not clean. Bring your own lock for the lockers. On the plus side, they do have bagels in the morning and location is great.

Place was good. I stayed one night in an 8-bedroom dorm. Mattress and bed were good. The hostel is in a good location, near to subway and restaurants. They also have evening activities. I joined the Karaoke night with Prince as a host, and was super fun! There are also coffee, tea and beagles available almost all time. The only bad thing was my room was on the fifth floor, with no elevator, and they didn’t have bathrooms in that floor but in the forth one. Internet also doesn’t reach the fifth floor, but in the dinning area is good, even for remote work (I took video calls with no issues) There’s definitely room for maintenance improvements, but for up to 3 nights I think it’s ok.

Pros: Good value for the price. Convenient in terms of subway access & proximity to the park and other things. Quiet at night, ask for a blanket just in case. The paint was peeling in some places but no bugs or weird stains or smells, the room, beds & public spaces were clean. Staff were friendly & helpful. Free coffee & tea. Cons: No sign outside so just make sure you ring the bell with the correct address. (Hope they improve the signage situation!) No elevator access or outside ramp that we saw. Towels are rented. The showers were very tiny, no place to put stuff other than on floor. My main issue was their bathroom set up was a bit odd. Toilets & showers are gender based by floor--that's fine. But some of them did not work at the time so I had to go from 5th floor to 2nd floor every time (there was work being done while we were there but it was still rather inconvenient).

I haven't stayed at this place, I was planning on it, and I was very happy that they didn't charge till you get there, or so I thought. Prior to going there I needed to cancel, and since they hadn't charged me I was thinking well there is no refund to issue, or "lose" the next minute after that they charged. Their phones don't work and overall not going there will probably be the best decision I'll ever make. If the owner or manager see's this I hope you know the way you do business is the wrong way.

I wouldn’t even give it 1 star. I booked for 4 nights but checked out after 1. Some absolute nutcase woke me up at 1 am to scream at me that I stole her bed (beds are allocated and I was in the bed that was allocated to me). None of the staff came to my defence or were any help at all. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and I sent them an email to explain what had happened. They have completely ignored my email and now, since my booking has been cancelled on Hostelworld I am unable to leave a review on there. Also this is the noisiest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. It sounds like someone is drilling in the next room and this went on all throughout the night. I would stead clear of here unless you enjoy either being screamed at in the middle of the night, or screaming in the middle of the night. It is not a safe place at all, and they seem perfectly content with it being this way.

Whatever you do: DO NOT come here! Dorms: -walk 3 stories up, go on fire staircase, go over a plain roof, reenter the building on a side door, 1 story up and baam, I found myself in a room with -no heating+no blankets (-5°C outside) -windows are not just unisolated but unsealable! you cant close them! theres always a cold wind in your room (partially you cant close the windows because theres ivy literally growing THROUGH the window and INSIDE of the building) -barely any power sockets -I was first assigned to a room that was already full -no wifi Amenities: [sanitary] -my room: level5, male bathroom: level3 wow. -showers barely warm. [kitchen] -no cooking possibilities -no silverware for you -public fridge hasn’t been cleaned in forever, theres like a 3cm liquid soup on the bottom DO NOT come here. An additional $5-10 bucks a day is definitely worth preventing these inconveniences. this is the wrong place to save money; for how bad It is, its way too expensive. please take this into consideration and don’t make the same mistake as I did coming here…

I stayed 3 nights in March 2023. It's a great location. I booked a female room but when I got in, a man was there. At first I thought I made a mistake but he disappeared never slept in the room so didn't bother me too much. The weird thing is that a man was also expecting to check in the following day. So they should take a better care of their registration. The building is very old but overall clean. My bed only had a sheet when I arrived, I had to ask for a blanket. No idea how the heating worked, it was just switching on in the middle of the night so you can by chilly during the day and evening. No breakfast provided just a bagel with strawverry jam. The wifi is not great. intermitent. It was really noisy with the refurbishment taking place. The walls are thin. You can hear people banging doors (or just banging😉🤭). The staff is nice.

Room was clean and they gave me fresh sheets and pillow cases. However the dormitory rooms are smaller than I expected with the bunk beds right next to each other. This is what one gets for choosing one of the cheaper hostels to stay in. It may not be really safe during COVID to sleep so close next to strangers. We do not know who is vaccinated or not. Staff are okay, nice.

And they took twice the ammount from me and are not refunding me what they took double. I hope somebody gets back to me....

Nice enough hostel. Amazing location. You can walk alot of places. I jogged every morning in Central Park because it's right there. Very centrally located. No extra perks. The breakfast is no longer included because of Coronapocalypse but of course just like the other hotels and hostels they dont take it off thier website. They still lead you to believe they have breakfast until AFTER you book it and get there. Once I get there they said you can't even use the kitchen. They have a quite LARGE peaceful common area where you can sit and do work. The heaters are ridiculously hot. It becomes like a suana in the rooms and they say they can't turn it down so you have to open the windows. 🪟 The rooms are nice and pretty clean. There used to be a comedy show on Sunday nights? But I guess they told me it's so slow they're not doing that anymore. Also as a guest there you get a 10% discount at the chicken place right up the street. I regret not taking advantage of that because the place looked so good. All in all I'd say it's a really good location and it's got to be 1 of the best places to stay if sightseeing in NYC. Also I've stayed at ALOT of hostels; some of them can be very noisy. This one seemed kind of quiet and peaceful. There wasn't alot of extreme commotion going on. The staff was really nice too.

I’ve personally never stayed in such a worse place. Absolutely terrible experience overall. Bed sheets weren’t clean, washrooms were very dirty (haven’t been cleaned in a long time with dirt, toilet paper and garbage all over the floor), key card stops working every day. So loud at night because the shared washroom and other peoples doors slam very loudly when closed. Management doesn’t answer emails. If you want to be able to sleep in a clean room that isn’t very loud at all times of the day, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

!!Disgusting!! Room which I was appointed to was so dirty! Doodle and dirt on the bed. Not kidding. Luckily they got me another room. At least a clean bed. No elevators. No WiFi. (Only some wifi af reception). Rough ragody place. Ceiling are coming off. Toilet did not flush. Emailed the owner what’s going on here but no reaction. Only good thing was the Reception people. Those I wanna thank. For the rest… this place needs to get a huge update.

I was looking for a super cheap place in the city, that was in a safe neighborhood, had nearby free parking and was walkable for most of Manhattan. This place checked all those boxes. If you are looking for anything more than this, Jazz on the Park probably isn't for you. Also, bring your own towel, shampoo, and blanket.

Extremely tiny room with no amenities. Feels claustrophobic. Pillows are paper thin! Bathrooms and showers are dirty. Didn't even get a towel. Hostel staff said, they don't want to turn on the heat. Spent the whole night cold. Wifi only works in common area. Worst hostel/hotel experience of my life.

The host was very poor, not nice and renovated as they said. I sleep in a 6 female bad room and wasn't clean . In the room there are 2 plugs only, crazy. They do not give you towel for the shower, the bathroom were dirty too and with not toilet paper. The common area is big ,but I found different dead bugs around and the kitchen is not available either for make a coffee. The receptionists are too young with not experiencing, so they can not help you to learn how to explore the city and they are also very arrogant. Stay at thus hostel was the bad experience ever. I am always super comfortable traveling and staying at the hostel, but not thus one.

Not good hostel. Small washroom for the entire floor. They have 6 people per room, and 6 rooms. No elevator available. So you have to take your luggage on your own till 5th floor. Room keys stops functioning multiple times. I had to come down for room key again and again.

Great location for walking around manhattan. It’s just across from Central Park with a pretty decent bodega down the street. I came here as a lone traveler. It’s a bed and a small locker. What else could you need. They clean the rooms at like 8 am every morning so you better be up. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. I recommend a stop at the Dublin house pub if you come here. It’s a brisk walk but it’s worth it.

I stayed only one night and it was really correct contrary to the very negative reviews and I was well received by the people at the reception. My room was in fair condition and the bathroom too. The location is currently undergoing work on the kitchen /living area but that’s not a big deal. The localisation is perfect with the metro nearby. The only thing I would recommend is that some improvement work should be done in the toilet / add some curtains in the bedroom etc

Is a reliable and secure place for sleeping when passing by this beautiful city. Rooms are small but enough to accommodate two travelers. Bathrooms are a common area. Outside the building you can find a citibike station so that’s a plus. Cheap, clean and comfy.

Aug-2023 Great place for staying a couple of nights. The room was small but when one doesn't plan of spending much time inside it doesn't matter. The room was provided with lockers, each bed had a pillow and one bedsheet and working AC that we could turn off and on as needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water temerature was good and easy to regulate. The staff at the front desk and other members were extremely nice and helpful specially a girl called Natalia, who was very kind. We were provided with free bagels for breakfast and we could stay all night at the common area chatting or just chilling. The location is a bit far away from some sights, but its a quiet place to be. I felt very safe at all times. Free speedy wifi at rooms, lobby and common area. A communal fridge, coffe machine and electric kettle. There is a water filter at the lobby. There is a nice patio area outside where one can pass the time. There are NO elevators, just STAIRS, so beware of that. I hope KAMA, the new name they are stwitching to, keeps up the good vibes.

I do not advise any one ,I do not recommend booking this hotsel. The fact that the hotel is close to central Park and it is in Manhattan, but I did not like staying in it. The bathroom is not clean. The faucets are broken on the fifth floor. The bathroom faucet does not have water. The electric socket in the room does not work, even though I asked the employe to repair , but didn't ,The room was very hot at night. The kitchen is not qualified and contains a lot of dust, other than what you see in the picture. I do not advise anyone to rent this hotel.

It’s very dingy and dirty. I ran into a lot of roaches. They do not offer free drinkable water. You either have to pay for each bottle of water out of the vending machine, or try your luck with the brown tap water. I stayed here a few years ago and it still haunts me.

Pitiful. I showed up with paid confirmation of room and confirmed email of reservation, and yet they tried to say I didn’t pay. I’m assuming they were overbooked so they turned us away. The man at the desk was rude, unhelpful, and we had to find a place on a Saturday night in nyc. Terrible. Won’t answer their phone either. Do not book here.

Jazz is my life. I operate a world-renowned jazz history website, and I have travelled extensively to write about this music. I thought it would be a good gesture to stay in a hostel named for my favorite music. Bad idea. In fact, I think jazz should sue for libel! When I made my reservation, I was supposed to cover a nightclub appearance by a well-known jazz artist. Unfortunately, the club was unwilling to provide press tickets. I called the hostel to cancel or reschedule my reservation, and they refused to do either. They had collected all of my money upfront and had no intention of returning it! I made several attempts to negotiate with the "customer service agents" until I finally decided to fulfill the commitment and then be done with it. When I arrived, things got worse. For the first and ONLY time in my history of staying in hostels, I was told the facility does not provide bath towels. After I raised a fuss, the clerk finally gave me one...acting like he was doing me a favor. The bed had one fitted sheet and a flat sheet folded up on the bed. I didn't even bother to make the bed. I came back to the hostel late in the evening to discover that none of the lights worked in my room. I waited for nearly half an hour to get the clerk to come up to my room and fix the problem. He fumbled around and found one solution, but never figured out how to get any of the other bulbs to light. The coup de grace came the following morning. After a rather restless night, there was no hot water for the private shower I paid for! I couldn't get out of there fast enough!

Total scam artists. They allow you to book a bed without informing you that they don't allow New Yorkers to stay, and then don't let you get a refund when they finally let you know. Avoid this place at all costs, and believe the negative reviews. Jazz is completely untrustworthy.

The only good thing was the peice, as it was kinda cheap but OMG... A/C wasn't working and everything was super filthy. The men bathrooms were a total mess. You really get what you pay for...

A Hostel in uptown . It's a clean place to stay up to a month.. On Expedia you find better pricing. It's close to everything. That staff It's nice.

Accidentally wrote my review on the other location, but I enjoyed my stay on the fact that the staff is very nice. The entire place left something to be desired but I like to be treated nicely and with respect as a customer and I felt like the staff did a good job of that. Could be cleaner but it is New York, after all.
