I grew up with a really nice lawn in Connecticut, but nothing could have prepared me for this majestic lawn. You’ll find it in the center of Central Park, so it must be the real center of New York City. This is a 55-acre green pasture located from 79th to 85th Streets. Can you believe that’s 55 acres? I totally can’t. This is a great place to have a Sunday afternoon book club, catch some rays (SPF 50 for sure), a frisbee toss with your mentor, maybe even set up some kind of flash mob to “All Star” by Smash Mouth. Thank you Central Park Conservancy for keeping this Great Lawn better than great!

I went to a the Global Citizen festival. I always end up going to other places around Central Park for picnics , but it is a really great and big area for picnics and just to chill and play some games . Right on the heart of Central Park , bathrooms are also near by . Pretty clean and the view to the skyscrapers is amazing.

A slice of green heaven right in the middle of the world's biggest concrete jungle and a great place to get a break from the buzz and the hustle and bustle of the city's fast life. A great place to take a walk, go jogging or sit for a picnic or a short read with your friend or by yourself. The place is huge and beautifully made. Got so many amazing lawns and lakes you will find yourself drowning in a sea of green and calmness. AMAZING

What a wonderful walking area. The sites and sounds are spectacular. Weekdays have fewer spectators

Great views of Midtown, in particular the remarkable tall and thin condominiums on billionaires row. Unfortunately, this beautiful stretch of green lawn isn’t open to the public. Shame, as it would be a great place to sit and relax no doubt.

Epic spot. One of the greatest lawns on Earth. Views on NYC skyline and the best people watching. Concerts and events also happening.

The Great Lawn is a quintessential and iconic feature of Central Park, one of New York City's most cherished and renowned public spaces. This vast, open expanse of greenery is located in the heart of Central Park, and it serves as a focal point for both local residents and visitors from around the world. Spread over 55 acres, The Great Lawn is more than just a park; it's a cultural hub that has hosted numerous significant events and gatherings throughout its history. The idea for this expansive lawn began in the mid-20th century when the reservoir that previously occupied the area was transformed into an open space. The Great Lawn officially opened in 1937, and its design incorporated elements of the picturesque landscape movement, which sought to create harmonious and natural settings within urban environments. Throughout the year, The Great Lawn serves as a recreational haven for New Yorkers and tourists alike. People gather here for picnics, sunbathing, frisbee games, and various other outdoor activities. It's a place where people can escape the hustle and bustle of the city, enjoy the beauty of nature, and engage in communal leisure. The Great Lawn's significance extends beyond everyday relaxation. It has been the site of many famous events and concerts, including large-scale performances by renowned artists and musicians. Events such as the Great Lawn concerts, which have featured artists like Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, and Diana Ross, have attracted massive crowds and left an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of the city. The Great Lawn is also known for its annual Shakespeare in the Park performances, which are organized by the Public Theater and provide free outdoor theater productions, offering a unique cultural experience for residents and visitors. In addition to its recreational and cultural significance, The Great Lawn plays a vital role in promoting environmental sustainability within the city. The meticulously maintained grass and plantings provide a refuge for various wildlife and contribute to Central Park's ecological diversity. In conclusion, The Great Lawn is not just a lush, green space in the heart of New York City; it's a vibrant and dynamic place that brings people together for relaxation, recreation, and cultural experiences. It is a testament to the enduring importance of public parks in urban life, offering a respite from the city's hustle and bustle while fostering a sense of community and shared enjoyment of the outdoors. The Great Lawn is a cherished part of Central Park's legacy and continues to be a symbol of natural beauty, cultural vitality, and communal gathering.

I attended a festival called Global Citizen. I usually wind up taking my picnics somewhere else in Central Park, but this is a really nice, spacious location for picnics and simply lounging about playing games. In the center of Central Park, with restrooms conveniently close by. Very tidy, with a fantastic view of the buildings.

Nice open park. Got to attend the Global Citizen festival here. The festival wasn't so good but the park itself is very nice and has great views.

Space X Rocket launch after it's departure from Florida, seen from the great lawn in Central Park. Sat Sept 24th 2022 during the Global Citizens Festival.

The lawn is cool, especially if there is a show going on! While we couldn’t get tickets to the big concert, we were able to see some performers doing soundcheck the day before, which was pretty cool.

What a time to be alive and getting to go front row to Global Citizen!!! Must repeat! Also a really cute nice spot for Picnics at Central park during summertime.

Wonderfull area to walk for exercise. It connects to trails that lead to the east side and vice versa and other beautiful areas. It's mostly clean and well maintenanced. There are plenty of places to lay out, picnic or excercise. There are Restrooms but should be cleaned more often. Stepping in puddles of pee is not a good look. I guess a stinky bathroom is better than none at all. Overall a great little piece of central parks public areas.

I think this is the place you want to bring your doggie to play fetch. It's also fun to watch the baseball games.
