As a big fan of Gustav Klimt I am very inspired and touched at this exhibition. His works are stunning! Other collections are also very interesting, very worth visiting if you’re into German expressionism, Dada…they also have nice collection of Kokoschka and Kandinsky. Beautiful place to spend an artistic afternoon!

The Neue Galerie is a world renowned and well regarded museum based in Manhattan, New York. In May of 2023, I brought and treated my wife for a visit to the Neue Galerie and we very much enjoyed our time there. The building that contains the museum is referred to as the William Starr Miller House. Designed by the prominent 20th Century architectural firm, Carrere and Hastings, the house once served as the residence for William Starr Miller, a successful industrialist and real estate operator, and subsequently, owned by Grace Vanderbilt, an American socialite, and the spouse of Cornelius Vanderbilt III, an American inventor, and member of the Vanderbilt Family. Today, the Miller House is owned and occupied by the Neue Galerie museum. The museum was established by Ronald S. Lauder, a highly successful entrepreneur and philanthropist as a tribute to his friend, Serge Sarbasky an eminent 20th Century art collector and dealer. Neue Galerie primarily features early 20th Century German & Austrian art. When visiting the museum, both my wife and I enjoyed viewing the paintings by Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka. Our favorite painting was Klimt’s work, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, also called The Lady in Gold. We not only found this to be a stunning painting, but we also admired its incorporation of Byzantine, Egyptian & Greek artistic elements. If you love early 20th Century German & Austrian art, then you should definitely visit and explore the Neue Galerie

I cannot rave about the Neue Galarie enough! I was so pleased with my experience at this museum. The art is phenomenal, the building is breathtaking, the bookshop and cafe (two truly important and overlooked parts of the museum experience) are both excellent. It is so clear how much thought and effort were given to the details of every aspect of this museum and I believe it shows in the quality of experience. I can confidently say that this is my favorite NYC museum experience yet! The third floor exhibit is currently closed and because of that they have implemented a reduced rate, which as a student and someone who frequently goes to museums, i greatly appreciate. It was such a demonstration of an establishment that seeks to stay true to its mission and be considerate towards its visitors. Such a stark difference when compared to museums such as the Whitney which charges $18 (student price) for two half curated floors, are packed with tourists and inconsiderate towards visitors of the museum. While my ticket originally would've been $12, it was reduced to half and I only paid $6, which more than compensated for the disappointment of the third floor being closed (which they are also very good about disclosing upon entry and on the website. Tickets are also not advanced reservation right now and I went midday on a Saturday and was still able to get in without a wait. The exhibits themselves are so well curated and organized and the informational plaques are interesting and easy to read. The second floor did not take long to get through and the collection was magnificent. The room full if drawings was beautiful and the center room filled with Gustav Klimt's work was incredible. The Neue Museum has also given me a newfound appreciation for Austrian art beyond Gustav Klimt, particularly that of Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The bookstore is so cute and cozy, I bought some high quality post cards that were well priced for the quality and I loved that the bookstore included books that elaborated on the art while also including books that were not directly connected. There is also a very small and cute design shop. The cafe is also so worthwhile! I did not take photos of the art because there were signs stating not to but I included the Klimt print intended for photos that was downstairs and photos of the bookstore.

Wonderful place, can’t quite give it a full thorough review because they’re renovating major parts of the museum but the gallery where the Klimts are is open especially Adele’s gold painting. So right now (month of October) they are accepting donations as payment into the museum. You are not allowed to take photos of the Klimts so take one downstairs by restrooms is a replica of Adele Blochs painting.

Beautiful former Vanderbilt mansion that is now an art Galerie exhibiting German and Austrian art. The most impressive items are the Klimt paintings especially the Women in Gold. She is worth seeing, but felt like $25 was a tad steep for the entire gallery

The perfect art museum! You’ll 100% get chills and goose bumps right after seeing the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. Highly recommend to watch the movie “Woman in Gold” before visiting this place. Know the history behind it!

My favorite gallery in New York ✨ There is something so special about this place. The portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I is a master piece. Also love The Dancer. Best Klimts in the city. Came in on the first friday of the month (free entry!) and had a great time, although only one room was open. I 1000% recommend watching the 2015 Woman in Gold movie before coming in to appreciate the artwork more. Also recommend making a stop in Café Sarbasky when coming in (and reserving ahead if on a weekend)!

Small but really nice Klimt's work. You have to look the original piece. It is facinating.

This Galerie is small but full of fabulous art. Unfortunately on our visit a few galleries were closed so call ahead to make sure the full collection is open. As an architect I thoroughly enjoyed the building as well. When we arrived there was a line but it was for the cafe. If you buy a ticket you can skip the line and go to the basement cafe. Dessert was simply amazing!

The current exhibition includes one of the most famous Klimt’s paintings, “The Lady in Gold.” It was a very impressive Klimt exhibition inside of the elegant historic building. Taking a photo is prohibited, but in the basement near restroom, there is a great photo-op with background of Klimt and Vienna Workshop wallpaper. Don’t forget to visit the restroom area! Loved the cafeteria too!

Very nice gallery with a few really great pieces from Gustav Klimt. Between now and early November is pay as you wish basis given only Klimt pieces are out and the rest of the building is closed to prepare a special exhibition later

My experience at the museum today was wunderbar! While they are currently only showing the Klimt collection, the pleasant and helpful staff in the museum, as well as in the gift shop and the on-site café Sabarsky featuring Austrian cuisine, including hot and cold drinks such as you might find in a Viennese café, a large selection of cakes, as well as brunch items, salads and full meals, made this a world-class five star worthwhile visit. There is a coat check available as well that includes the ability to check larger backpacks, and it was mentioned that the third floor galleries will be open eventually later in the year, so it will be even more of an enriching experience as the year progresses.

Beautiful building and very good cafe - Apple strudel is amazing. The staff are very sophisticated and polite - more what you’d expect in a five star hotel than an art gallery. The Klimt paintings are the absolute highlight, don’t miss the colourful Klimt pieces as well as the very famous centrepiece. Collection otherwise felt a little disparate - I would focus a bit more on a single theme.

It's a compact museum that is worth a visit. It is definitely Klimt-centric, you won't find anything more than that. It quite interesting though. The museum is quite poor in descriptions and information about the paintings and the artists. Recommended for a quick visit.

Currently there's no exhibit going on, so the third floor is closed and only a small part of the permanent collection is on display. On the upside, that includes the most famous Klimt paintings, and you can pay as much as you wish for admission.

i have always wanted to see the Woman in Gold. it was truly an amazing experience. the painting was beautiful, the history is fascinating, and the exhibit was spectacular. the museum store was good, and it had lots of books related to the history of different items in the museum. the cafe looked wonderful with an array of german desserts. the Woman in Gold is a must see!

Must see in NYC? Probably not. $25 for a gallery that you can be done with in less than an hour (and I walk slow) hardly seems to be worth it. The high price is matched with a lack of hospitality from the employees. There are so many rules here: you have to book online or you're denied entry, no pictures, carry your bag in your hand, and the most ridiculous one I've heard yet - either wear your coat or tie is around your waist. How does one tie a chunky winter coat around their waist?.quite a mystery. So people were just sweating it out instead (obviously no option to coat check). All this for the woman in gold? It's a remarkable piece. But watch the movie instead. It's $5 to stream.

Great museum with artworks and amazing objects of art created from the late 1800's through the first half of the 29th century. Most of the galleries were closed today due to new installations but still totally worthwhile. And don't miss the on-site Viennese style cafe/restaurant.

Beautiful exhibit of Klimt Landscapes! Small and nice museum but make sure you use coatcheck as you cannot carry your coat around (you.must wear it or tie it around your waist).

Several years have passed by and they still have only 2 Rooms to show. As much as I love the Woman in Gold, I am waiting to see more paintings. The entrance has been cut in half, it is $11 for adults and $8 for seniors.

Enjoyed visiting Neue Galerie. I could've spent hours looking at Klimpt's portrait of Adele. There were portraits of Gertrud Loew as well which was mesmerizing. It was a quiet and small gallery I could enjoy without rushing (not like in front of Van Gogh's Starry Night at the MoMA). I wish they allowed photography since I loved the portrait of Adele, but I guess not allowing photography made this gallery so peaceful. I would revisit just to see a portrait of Adele. The price could be lower considering how small the gallery is compared to MoMA and Met, but it was worth it.

Got in for free as part of company perks. They don't allow photos. They have 2 small floors of exhibits. Pretty small museum. I don't think I would pay with my own money to see this. I heard the cafe here is really good but I didn't visit

Went to see the collection Gustav Klimt. Had to wait outside to get through their security. Busy but not crowded on Friday morning. Worthwhile to see Klimt's original works. Recommend. Within walking distance of The Met!

Neue Gallery in NYC is a real gem. Compact but rich in exceptional German and Austrian art. Klimt's works are a highlight. Well-curated, intimate setting. A must-visit for art lovers seeking a unique experience.

Beautiful building and great selection of pieces. I was amazed by the paintings of Klimt. The security measures during the pandemic were great (requiring proof of vaccination, offering hand sanitizer, etc.) and the staff was friendly and polite. The book store has many kinds of books (about art, literature, philosophy,...) including a selection for children. There's a store with souvenirs and exclusive and gorgeous pieces. I was just disappointed that the 3rd floor wasn't opened to visit, but that only means that I'll have to go back once again.

Wonderful art gallery in New York . The art exhibit changes monthly to feature a new artist. There is a small bar in the back on gallery walks every 2nd Saturday of the month. Come get your culture on!

We love the Neue. Exhibits are well done and striking. Seeing the Scream was a real event for us. I was floored when I saw one of the original drawings from one of my favorite books , Hasek’s the Good Soldier. Always something fun and interesting which makes a visit worth while.

Paying a lot of money to see a billionaire's art collection and being scolded for taking pictures in the building was not appreciated. We were there to see the Klimt works and were disappointed by the experience. Admire the beautiful building from the outside, but spend your time and money elsewhere.

Established in 2001, located in the William Starr Miller House. This museum has a nice Gustav Klimt collection. Current exhibit is Max Beckman. Security is tighter than other big museums. No water, no photos allowed. Courteous and professional staff.

A small gallery focused on early 20th century German and Austrian art housed in a gorgeous building opposite the Met - we saw the Max Beckmann exhibition which was kind of interesting but the highlight is the permanent collection of Austrian decorative arts and furniture and the iconic Gustav Klimt portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer ‘the woman in gold’ which is fabulous! (Stolen by the Nazis and recovered only after a very lengthy legal battle with the Austrian government in 2005 ..) $25 entrance is steep and no photos allowed ! Cafe is gorgeous

One of the most beautiful galleries in NYC. I have been to Neue Galerie since I was in college. It a nice size museum. You can tour and see the art works within 1-2 hours. The cafe in the first floor is beautiful and nice. The cafe makes me think that I am in Vienna.

  • 5/5 Katherine C. 6 months ago on Google
Visited and saw the Max Breckmann exhibit which was fantastic. We went on Friday at 6:45pm which was a little busy but they offer free admission. We spent about 1 hour here. Beautiful building and of course classic Klimt pieces were so enjoyable as well.

A gorgeous experience. We ate in the downstairs part of the cafe and it was great. Lunch, wine, dessert & service were lovely. The gallery is fantastic- both the permanent collection and the exhibition we saw (Max Beckmann). It's worth the wait to get in but buying tickets ahead of time to reduce the wait was definitely a good idea.

Went on a Monday. Paid at my choice. This is a must-see (worldwide) Gallerie/Museum in NYC. Study the history of Adele and Gustav. You will experience the sensual pursuit of Loving art, dangerous political times, and an intemperate virus.

Really great museum. Deep discount now because only 2 rooms open. Loved seeing "The Women In Gold" read the history or see the movie. Amazing history in this museum. Had wine, food and dessert at the cafe that does not disappoint.

Been wanting to see the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. Didn’t expect though we can’t take photos inside. But still enjoyed seeing it in person. Part of the gallery is closed so once we saw Klimt that’s it.

  • 4/5 Qiao. 1 year ago on Google
One of the most stunning Klimts, in a beautiful building which does not feel very NYC. However - the museum is very small. Hence, find it a bit overpriced, especially for the amount of time that you have to wait to get in… there is a queue and another queue for just the cafe. Book tickets in advance! No pictures allowed in the exhibitions.

  • 5/5 eih l. 2 years ago on Google
Gustav Klimt’s Adele Bloch Bauer is really something you have to see in your lifetime. The German works were not on display when we went, but still worth a visit for the Klimts alone.

  • 5/5 Elias G. 2 years ago on Google
Great small museum in a beautiful building. The exhibits are located on two rather small floors, but they are packed with beautiful artwork and furniture. We took our time going through each room but still finished the entire museum rather quickly. There is a café/restaurant located on the first floor that was very busy and apparently serves good food and drinks. Worth a visit if you have already visited New York's larger museums and/or are looking for early 20th Century German/Austrian artwork.

  • 3/5 Shad L. 2 years ago on Google
Great museum to spend the afternoon. Most of the exhibits are free. Make sure you reserve your spot online. When we arrived, there was a long line but we just walked right to the front of the line where the lady scanned us in.

  • 5/5 Omar A. 1 year ago on Google
Even though only one floor was open(as the other floors were being prepared for an exhibition) it was completely worth it! The Klimpt drawings alone make it an extremely enjoyable experience. The plethora of books in the store is stunning as well. Beware as you are not allowed to take pictures.
