Interesting place for a 1-2 hour visit. The place is not very big so things to see for one visit is a bit limited but the collection changed every couple months. Staff is really nice and interesting stuff at the gift shop too. There are good background stories printed beside most posters in the special exhibition which is nice and I was told they are working on developing an audio version which will be great.

Absolutely one of my favorite museums in the city as a design student! Their exhibitions are so fun and educational. The staff is really friendly as well:)

Free on Fridays, otherwise you can reserve tickets online. Well worth a visit! Two floors with several exhibits, kids activities, and a cafe. The seating area towards the back has a couple interactive screens I really liked (one was a digitized older exhibit and the other had a make your own poster digital activity). Informative displays, wonderful posters, great gift shop. I spent an hour there and could've spent longer because I love typography, design, illustration, paper, printing, and all that's involved in posters. My friend who is less interested in reading every plaque would recommend less than hour. I ended up only buying some postcards and magnets, but some books were also really tempting.

Great new museum. I enjoyed the show of 20th century Japanese poster art and the show on posters from the homefront in World War II. Nice café and bookstore too. The current exhibitions on Art Deco posters and on posters advertising India's Sandalwood film industry are wonderful too.

Went on free Friday. New exhibits very well done nice friendly staff too. Cafe is nice but they changed menu. Wanted to try baked empanadas. Now it's just coffee bar setting. Good for a book club or small group to sit and have coffee

Poster House is a hidden gem in a city full of world-class museums. As the name suggests, it has an incredible collection of posters used for advertising, film, music and artwork, and has one large and one small exhibit on particular topics or themes along with a small permanent exhibition on the evolution of posters as a distinct art form. It's a great place to visit for an afternoon if you're interested in visual art.

This place is a graphic designer’s dream come true! Not only do they have great (free) poster exhibits, but also all the posters you can buy in their shop! The two shows that were on when I was there (visiting New York) were fantastic, and visually very different from one another (see images). Overall, I would highly recommend this place for a visit if you’re interested in design and/or color.

It's small but they have great stuff. Probably in and out in 45 mins unless you really study the posters.

I traveled from Chile to New York City in July, for me it’s the best Museum for Graphic design. It’s amazing place. ¡I hope see you in 2024!

Such a lovely gem in Manhattan. I really enjoyed the current Arts Décos exhibition. Some great pieces, not too many people, nice atmosphere. And be aware the entry is free in Fridays!

This was my first time there, and I really liked it. Nice little museum with interesting exhibition and a coat check (which is a rare thing in these covid days). Great collection

Came in on a Friday thinking I just wanted something from the gift shop but peeked in out of curiosity and ended up going through every exhibit. I knew very little about Poster House going in, but I came out of it with a student membership, which only cost me $35. It was such a fun blend of history, art, culture and analysis that gives center stage to a very familiar and relatable format, while transforming it into a great educational and cultural experience.

We’re so lucky to have the Poster Museum right in NYC. Amazing resource for graphic design, art history, and advertising lovers. Terrific program for adults & kids in addition to creative and diverse exhibitions.

I know about Poster House only because it's listed in the Culture Pass (as one of the museums). The exhibits are neatly and elegantly laid out. They are very pleasant to look at. But the museum is small. There are only two main rooms and the other posters are displayed in the corridors, sort of.

The exhibitions of poster house would be changed every season. I visited here in March 2022, seeing two major exhibitions of Ethel Reed's design and Russian 1920's movie ads. Those collections are amazing but not enough quality for $16 entry fee. Therefore, I thought the ticket price was expensive.

The only thing I didn't like was the description of this place as "small." Many eras of poster design are accounted for, and cool postcards can be found.

Such a cool place, loved the environmental poster exhibit and the art Deco poster exhibit. Both were well curated, and the gentleman that talked us through the environmental posters did an excellent job of explaining and giving us an expansive background on most posters.

One of my favorite museums of NY, this museum dedicated to the graphic design of posters is inspirational and a great place to chill at their in house cafe.

Small, under-the-radar museum focused on international poster art from the mid-19th century to present. Engaging, tightly-curated temporary exhibitions make up the bulk of what’s on view at any given time, making Poster House easy to drop into for an hour or two at a time.

I have to say, after visiting poster house, and the museum of art and design I really prefer Poster House! I thought the exhibits were pretty well done, and there is an interesting telephone within the museum that if you pick it up, it calls a different telephone booth in the city and someone can possibly pick it up. You can have a total conversation with a stranger! Downstairs they have a women in old Hollywood section, which I found particularly fascinating, because I studied film in school, a children's section where kids can color on the wall, and the Air India exhibition. I knew nothing about Air India's mascot, but I learned a lot and I really enjoyed seeing all the different poster designs and why they worked and mattered.

An incredible little gem in a city of hundreds of museums. Definitely worth a visit. The exhibits are interesting and very well done. Beautiful pieces that make you appreciate posters as true works of art. Tim was an amazing and informative tour guide. Highly, highly recommended!

Being in the design industry, seeing a museum that is focused around a graphic medium like posters was really exciting! Some of the work in the museum was a little more fine art than it was design, but still very engaging and interesting to see. Also, there was a dance performance while we were there. Highly recommend going for a First Friday. They are open later than normal, and entry is free!

It's free on Fridays, the place is amazing, we got to enjoy a coffee in between. The gift shop has a lot of interesting items to offer. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it.

Such a lovely art space with such great exhibitions upstairs and downstairs. It's perfect for a lazy weekend and it's not too big and not too small, nor is it crazily packed. The staff is super friendly and the gift shop at front has some really great stuff. Definitely my kind of place and would definitely come again!

Our entire family enjoyed this wonderful gem. Our graphic design student daughter, especially so. Fridays are free! Impressive gift shop with quality goods, and the coffee shop makes very good espresso drinks. The Art Deco exhibit was our favorite.

A tiny gem of a museum on 23rd between 6th and 7th. There are two main galleries, with a third exhibit displayed in a long hall. There is also a small permanent exhibit about the history of poster art. The item labels throughout the museum are unusually informative and detailed, which I loved. Great little gift shop, too. Admission is free on Fridays.

A small, nice museum for lovers of poster art. Can be completed in an hour or less. It feels new - so perhaps not living up to its full potential yet. To me, its similar to wandering the halls of an art school you dont attend - with work hung in hallways and echoing rooms, explained well, but with none of the warmth of a standard art museum. If anyone from the museum ever sees this - there really needs to be an exhibit on the production of posters. Doesn’t need to be large but It would really be helpful to understand the techniques of how the posters are printed and it’s really only lightly touched on. My experience would have been richer with that knowledge.

I visited over the weekend to take a glimpse of Air India Maharaja gone rogue exhibition. It was everything their newsletter had described it as and more! There were two other exhibitions in the Poster House and I decided to check those out as well. It was quite fascinating and well curated. There’s a kids section in the basement where kids can color a black and white graffiti on one of the walls. It was mainly being colored by adults who would come out of one of the exhibitions. It was lovely to see adults turn into kids and using coloring pens.

This place is so cool. Come learn about stuff you never knew was actually interesting like the early Soviet movie industry. Only $12, it's a great way to burn an hour or so and look at unique art that's pretty well curated with interesting captions. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll go see whatever exhibition they have next.

The exhibition I saw was really well laid out and very thoughtfully arranged and written. They are free on Fridays and otherwise quite cheap. There’s a nice shop and some interactive elements which were quite fun, including free workshops and activities for kids. I mostly struck by the narrative element of the exhibition. I think they are doing a great job of telling interesting stories and histories with their exhibitions. I’ll be delighted to return for the next show and would highly recommend to any design or history buffs.

HOw had I never been here before. With friend from out of town we snagged (free!) timed tickets. WOW! One room was like a college course on Soviet propaganda via movie posters and interesting editing techniques. Frankly, i can imagine this being too much for a casual visitor - but the combo of art, technique, and social /culture made it truly interesting. PLUS the crazy eyes on some of those poster people. There were two other smaller exhibits (Japanese olympics and women in EARLY hollywood) Movie lobby cards from early Hollywood. a Cool hanging example of (test?) prints. PROBABLY not so interesting for kids.

This is such a fantastic new museum to NYC, showcasing various exhibitions on posters used for a variety of reasons. The current exhibition is on Russian film posters (kinda ironic given the news lately). The space is very welcoming and open when you check in (just wish there was a more cohesive and smooth check in area, as there was a long line of folxs waiting to check in. The gift shop is the first thing when you walk in. It would be easier to have the check in area first thing when you walk in). The space itself is SUPER small, you’ll most likely be in and out in about 45 mins to an hour tops. I’ll definitely be back again (hopefully the museum expands to the upper floors to showcase even more exhibitions, and maybe a collab with local museums on posters related to NYC history?)

This place was great.. it is small but filled with interesting and exciting details about imagery on posters. They have a wonderful gift shop and cafe shop. They use real cups and they make sure visitors are vaccinated for safety. Currently they have the black exploitation film exhibit that is great. I learned a lot and you can play the soundtrack on an old style record player from some of the movie posters displayed.. Lastly, I thinks this a cool place to kill time with your children. They have a cool coloring wall in the basement. Free on Fridays.

A small but mighty Museum. Everyone that works there is so genuinely friendly, and I always spend way more time than anticipated here. The Julius Klinger exhibit was amazing, as was the exhibit on the freak power movement. I always learn so much by going here. Definitely recommend checking it out if you need a break from the larger museums in manhattan

Good vibes and it's really a different experience! The chicken empanada was good but I recommend it with a glass of rose. And it's free admission on Fridays!

Really appreciated the historical context and description of terminology - feels like the museum has an actual interest in teaching us something. However, the space is a bit small, and I think a few more bold/challenging choices could have been made.
