Balto is one of the heroic dogs but he only ran 31 miles. Watch the movie Togo. Togo and Seppala ran 264miles. This statue was made in honor of one of the dogs to make it to the town to deliver the serum but was not the "most honorable dog".

    Very interesting Balto's sculpture, it's a shame they don't have Togo's sculpture there too : (((

Good ol’ Balto. Very nice statue. Beautiful photo opportunity. Nice memory to have. It’s also near a lot of other statues and there’s a Childress playground in front of the statue so it’s a win win for the kids.

Nice statue but it's too sad they chose the wrong dog. I mean yes, Balto was the leading dog of the last leg amd definitely deserves a recognition but I think Togo deserves to have a statue more.

Balto is a very good boy. Some may say the best of boys. A true American hero that doesn't have any downsides, just a pure good boy.

It should have been taken off. The real hero was Togo who run n lead his team @ 261 miles, crossing the icey Norton Sound with Sep. Balto was not even the lead dog , it was Fox the last relay only at 34 miles. They should built a new statue for Togo. They should replace this statue in Central park with the real hero -Togo. .

Having watched Balto as a child this was a must see for me. It was interesting to learn the real life Balto was present when the Statue was unveiled. I also had the absolute pleasure of someone bringing their Husky that sat next to the Statue.

Beautiful statue of the dog. Info about the dog is written under the statue… it’s all about how he helped deliver foods to the Alaskans during some kind of calamity. All in all the statue is quite pleasant to the eyes. This statue can be found in Central Park..

One of the many statues at Central Park, Balto the dog is not only a good boy but so is his statue! Very easy to access from the street; Balto is a fun statue to visit! Plus take in the sights and sounds of local street music that sets the tone for the space! Parking along the street if you have a car or walk into the park from one of the many entrances.

This is a fun one kids love. Right on the rock scramble, so easy to get right next to the sculpture.

People don't even understand how heroic this was, at least not the ones living in the Lower 48, with no concept of how rapidly and horribly disease can decimate small and isolated communities. They see a cute dog statue, which I guess it is. But still. Those animals and people saved lives. Everyone should go to a remote part of Alaska and really think about that.

My son insists on visiting wherever we’re in NYC. Definitely a fun thing to check out in Central Park. It’s a couple hundred feet from the zoo, so worth the stop. No tickets needed. 😊

Wasn't crowded, and it was very clean. Anyone who loves the history of Balto should check out the statue.

The story of Balto is so endearing and lovely, and the statue is a lovely memory of it. If you’re in Central Park I highly recommend paying Balto a visit to feel the magic!

My daughter was so excited and happy when she got to pose with the statue. She loves dogs, rescue dogs most of all.

Oh you have to love the Story or Balto/Togo. Both Heros and shared in bringing medicines to alot of people who were sick and dying in a town that was only accessable by Dog Sled in the Winter.

I CRIED! Balto Was one of my all time favourite movies as a child! I was walking aimlessly around Central Park, and to stumble across this statue, I couldn’t control my emotions!

In January 2022, I went for a very long walk in Central Park and saw the Balta Statue. It's a lovely statue of a dog, and it makes me think of my cousin's dog. It's a good chance to take pictures.

Nice statue, worth a visit! Shame the statue doesn’t give the recognition to the dog that it’s based on, instead there is a very generic inscription referring to all service dogs!

The real hero of the serum relay in 1925 was the dog Togo and not the dog Balto. 19 teams ran an average of 31 miles (50 km) each. The Togo’s team ran 264 miles (425 km) alone. Balto is more famous then Togo because its team was the last one to bring the serum. In 2011, Time Magazine named Togo the most heroic-animal of all time! Pls watch to Togo movie from Disney to know the real history!

In January 2022, I took a very lengthy stroll in Central Park and came across the Balto Statue. I'm reminded of my cousin's dog by this lovely statue of a dog. It makes for a good photo op.

Went and got a photo for my son who is very interested in the history of epidemiology and has always loved the stories of Balto and Togo. The statue is much bigger in person than I anticipated and was beautifully crafted. The park officials do a nice job of keeping the park and the statues clean and cared for.

I think the statue is very well constructed and a good attraction for the price. However, I would like to see a little recognition for the real hero Togo. Hopefully, like statues of Robert E Lee and Christopher Columbus, the world will soon wake up to how history has been white washed and the true legend Togo will be honored. Great place for kids.
