Beautiful old castle structure used years ago against the british. Not much inside, but its a valuable important piece of American History. They have a gift store inside and the staff here were super nice and can give you a run down on the history of this place. When I came it was open.

Ticketing booth for the trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It's also a little museum itself where you can walk around and see some exhibits about the fort and its changing purpose.

Great first time experiencing the Statue of Liberty in all its glory. Tickets were $23 per adult so not too bad. Heard there was a free ferry down the road but this one wasn't busy so didn't mind paying. The ferry itself had plenty of seating. Tons of opportunities to take beautiful photos. Definitely a must-try for anyone visiting the city! 4 stars only because the ticket sellers were rude.

Castle Clinton National Monument in NYC is a historical treasure. Its rich history and breathtaking harbor views make it a must-visit. A five-star destination that transports you back in time while offering stunning vistas of the city's waterfront.

Good place for the history lovers.. If you are going to Ellis Island and Statue Of Liberty then you would stop by this monument. It has come great pictures depicting the history of the place. Though the monument is small and only one room is accessible but you still will like it once you enter the monument.

This 5 stars is for the Keith haring metal art across the street. This whole area is just incredible with so many things to see. The keith haring is just icing on the cake. Well worth the time to visit the battery park area while in New York. For a free closer look at the statue of liberty just hop on the free straten island ferry.

Beautiful green space, walking paths, sunsets with Statue of Liberty in the backdrop and excellent dog spaces. People are friendly, squirrels are adorable, gardens are very well tendered and venders selling their goods are very nice and have amazing products.

Great place to visit. Gives entire skyline view of new York. Ensure you save a lot of time to go here. The queue is long even on weekdays. The security check is as strict as airport. So ensure you don't carry forbidden items else you have to leave them and they can't be recollected. A cruise takes you to the liberty island. You can collect the guide phone from there in the language you prefer and go around. The place is huge and hence takes a lot of time. Ensure you visit the museum to learn interesting facts. If you want to really visit the crown, please buy tickets in advance else you will get normal tickets and not the crown one. Once you have visited the liberty island, you can jump onto any cruise which takes you to Ellis island. It's a nice island from where you can get complete view of the statue of liberty. Njoy!!

Love the idea of having a former fort and the ticket booth and info point for the Statue of Liberty. If you hold a pass you don’t have to be in the line inside Castle Clinton/exchange the pass anymore. You can just use your QR code. Enjoy

An interesting pitstop if you are nearby, but not worth a separate trip. Area used to be an island and then was filled in via a landfill. There is a free exhibition that provides educational information about the history of the site. You can also buy ferry tickets here to the statue of liberty and Ellis Island. There is a public restroom available for free.

Cute little place to mark off your bucket list and in your National Parks Passport Books! Not much to see, but worth a visit

The only way that I know of to visit liberty island is to buy tickets here at Castle Clinton National Monument. You might be able to buy online. If so I would recommend it to skip the line. After waiting in line to buy tickets you have to wait again to go thru security and board the boat. The price includes a ferry ride to Liberty Island, where you can get off and spend as much time as you like, then board again to go to Ellis Island where there is a museum of immigration, where you can spend as much time as you like (museum entrance is included in your price). Then you can board another ferry to go back to Manhattan. Visiting Liberty Island has always been an enjoyable experience for me and my family.

It’s a short visit, but really worth it even just to see the diorama that shows the fort used to be way out in the water. Manhattan Island grew to encompass the fort. Very cool.

We wanted to see the old fort and then encountered one of the rangers who was full of marvelous stories and souvenirs. We enjoyed our time with him and wish it could have been longer; but others needed his assistance. Hope they had as great a time.

I walked to various NPS sites in lower Manhattan and this was a pretty mid-tier stop. The old Battery wall was cool, and there were some boards to learn about the history of the former fort/concert hall/aquarium. However there’s not much to see now since its primary usage is as the ticket office for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. A park ranger even told me it’s essentially “a dumping ground” and storage for other NPS sites in the area.

Castle Clinton stands as a remarkable historical landmark in the heart of New York City. Initially built as a fort to defend against British attacks during the War of 1812, its walls whisper tales of resilience and transformation. Though no battles were fought here, its presence symbolized the growing strength of a young nation. Over the years, Castle Clinton has reinvented itself multiple times - from a fort, to America’s first immigration station preceding Ellis Island, then to an entertainment venue, and finally, a national monument. Each transformation mirrors a piece of America’s evolving identity. Visiting the monument, you’re taken back in time. The circular sandstone structure, now enveloped by the vibrant Battery Park, offers a unique contrast to the modern skyscrapers surrounding it. Inside, the small museum presents a concise, informative view of its multifaceted history. It’s fascinating to learn how it served as the gateway for over 8 million immigrants, setting the stage for America’s cultural diversity. Additionally, the site serves as a departure point for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tours, making it a perfect starting point for a day exploring America’s iconic symbols of freedom and hope. Castle Clinton may not be as grandiose as other historical sites, but its understated significance is a powerful reminder of New York City’s, and indeed America’s, ever-changing story. A must-visit for history buffs and tourists alike, it offers a serene, educational experience amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

Nice little "fort" at the ferry terminal for the Statue of Liberty. This is going through the much needed renovation right now so it has scaffolding all around it, and anything inside is closed due to the pandemic. However, it is a nice place to look around and see what it was like back in the day with a little history!

  • 5/5 Jason H. 2 years ago on Google
This was the place I went to in order to purchase a ticket to the boat that goes to the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. There were a lot of cool monuments around the area as well. There are bathrooms inside also which is extremely useful in New York. I think it is possible to buy the city pass there. Ask for more information, but I believe that pass is one of the best bargains in New York City.

  • 5/5 R 2 years ago on Google
No entry fee! Easy to get to and really cool to explore with several monuments to visit. Very friendly staff and a beautiful park nearby.

The castle itself is nice, even though it's under renovation when we were there. I gave it three star because the information on Google map and nps app are are not clear. Both said it's open and list the open hour, but the hour is not for castle museum amd visitor Center/shop which were both temporary closed. We checked the hour before we were going and excited to get another stamp done on our National Park passport, but so disappointed that the visitor Center was closed....It Would Be nice that simply mention the temporary closure of the office aso we could visit some other time.

In 1946, Castle Clinton became a National Monument, and in 1965, it was designated a New York City Landmark. After Castle Clinton was saved from demolition in 1946, the National Park Service restored it to its original appearance as a fortification. It now serves not only as a museum, but also as the ticket office for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferry. It also houses the Battery Conservancy, created in 1994 to "rebuild and revitalize the Battery…and its major landmark, Castle Clinton National Monument." The Conservancy now serves as the current curator of Castle Clinton. The site reopened to the general public in 1975, and is today known as the Castle Clinton National Monument.

This is a great historical place. New Amsterdam was the old name of New York. The Dutch were notorious for their slave trading. However they had a good business temperament even through they did not have ethics, apparently. East India Company was the original unethical corporation. All others have the East India Company to benchmark themselves with.

Heading to the Statue of Liberty with my students whom for some was their very first time! The line is long but it moves very quickly. Every time I go I’m always in awe of its beauty! Never gets old.

  • 3/5 Anthony O. 1 year ago on Google
Umm cannot really call this a castle. On top of that it is used for the ticket office to go to the statue and Ellis island. This means there is virtually nothing about this "castle" and you cannot learn anything. That being said it is still cool to have a quick look around while you wait for the ferry to take you to the statue and Ellis Island.

I nice little slice of history tucked away hidden in plan sight of battery park. I love the history of earlier Americana and this is for sure a nice place to visit if you are in fidi or the area

Very good all, except to get Uber services. Impossible to go back. Uber makes tricks with the streets that u are not familiar and charge you because you can't find the streets on time. Better is to get a taxi.

Unfortunately the tickets to Ellis Island were sold out when we arrived (around noon, on a Sunday in February! So make sure to buy ahead!) but the fort itself was AWESOME. Unassuming at first, it is STEEPED in history! We had an incredible (and FREE) tour for a Park Ranger called Eric. Really fantastic experience. Highly recommended taking the time to learn about the fort!

  • 2/5 Eboni M. 1 year ago on Google
This was a well-preserved fort that looked very interesting from afar. However, when we entered it was o my used as a ticketing area for the Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty trip. I expected more regarding the history of the structure itself, but there were no exhibits just…a place to buy tickets. Underwhelming :/

Interesting. Basically an entrance and ticket gate for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Staten Island.

  • 3/5 Doug M. 10 months ago on Google
This is a national monument in it's own right, with a lot of interesting history, but they make it feel like the ticket booth to the REAL national moment, the statue of liberty.

There are many places one can go to explore the history of Manhattan Island. Few hold a greater amount of history than Castle Clinton. Forget for a moment that this is the official on-site ticket office for ferry service to Liberty Island. Imagine being able to visit a round stone structure that once greeted Lafayette, was the original outpost for processing immigrants, and was even the original home of The New York Aquarium. Oh, did I mention that this structure originally stood off shore?! Yes, Castle Clinton as you see it today first rested atop the choppy waters of Upper New York Bay. Over the years, landfill eventually ensnared the structure into the land that we know as modern Manhattan. Definitely worth a visit. Enjoy!

The reason I have 1 star here is to bring awareness to tourists and staff. On June 19th,2023 we entered the Battery Park at around 12pm and head towards the Castle Clinton to purchase an admission (approx 24$) for a ferry to the islands. However as soon as we approach the route we met a person who looked very professional, was wearing a white short, black pens, and black shoes and about 1.9 centimetres toll, who told us that we are not allowed to continue because we are on cameras (to which he pointed) and that we have to show our tickets first to him, otherwise we cannot pass. He mentioned that he is park ranger and that we are not allow to pass and we have to buy tickets from him if we don’t, we are not allow to pass and he made it clear to us that we will not be able to walk towards as he stood on our way. He was clearly impersonating a park officer and his voice was very demanding and he also show us some kind of security badge or something with a card with his face on it. We told him to get lost and walk around him when we got a chance. He was also surrounded with other seems like of his kind, but those were wearing red shorts instead and were running around and trying to sell tickets (clearly not the deal you get at the gates). Please investigate this crew! They are most likely there today!

This is the entrance to take a boat to the Status of 🗽 in New York. You will need to get your trip ticket before you will be allowed pass through the entrance. The park is large enough for rallies, protest and group excursion.

Its pretty cool that they kept this monument preserved but when you go inside fort there isn’t much to do the only thing you can do is purchase tickets to see the Statue of Liberty or Ellis island. There are some boards filled with information regarding the history of the landmark and how its changed overtime but pretty cool to observe a historical monument kept for our viewing pleasure

The fort is well maintained by the National Park Service. There's a bookstore kiosk beside the ticket outlet for the ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty. If you see anything you like get it cause it closes early in the afternoon. Clean Restroom is beside the entrance when you get in. A few cannons on the perimeter. Nothing much to see really just a brief pass through then on the security screening house to get to the pier for the ferry ride.

  • 3/5 Rahul Singh K. 3 years ago on Google
Water fountains are not working at this place anymore. there are not enough sign boards to tell a person from a distance that where to buy the tickets from for the statue of liberty or maybe you can say it like in this way that you will never realize that the tickets for such a liberty can be bought from this place. Hygiene and cleanliness are not the attractions of this fort and I don't know why this part itself is not to do this attraction maybe because inside the fort and all the barricading and arrangements are just to allow people to buy tickets. if they move the tickets into a different place then I'm sure this place will get more attention and people will take more photos.
