I think the high reviews and pictures are a bit misleading. The hotel is pretty run down with fixes here in there that make it seem fairly okay - more motel vibes. I booked a double bed and when I arrived they gave me a room in the basement. As a solo traveler and female, that made me super uncomfortable and it was not advertised when I booked - I would never have booked such a room too. I asked to be moved upstairs and though they were nice they kept trying to convince me this was the best room in the hotel and that’s what guests prefer etc. As someone who travels A LOT, this is not the approach and also wrong. Who wants to stay in the basement?? When I had to insists on them moving me upstairs they charged me an extra $20 plus kept making me feel bad by saying someone who already paid for that room upgrade will be downgraded to the basement. It just made me feel uncomfortable. The room is like the hotel, rundown. The sheets were super soft and bed was comfortable so that was a plus. At check out, they ask for a $22 resort fee - this is laughable but they say it’s for free internet and breakfast… whatever. The area isn’t the best, I doubt I’ll stay here again but the price is very cheap for New York so just set your expectations for what this hotel is.

I was traveling with 2 friends and chose this hotel based on the reviews so I'm going to be honest about my review. I don't plan to stay here again. I thought the people at the check in and check out were fine, but it was weird getting towels and coffee. The room was OK, but I did not understand that there was hardly any place to put anything down in the room or in the bathroom. There was no counter space, no fridge, no coffee or hot pot, there was no place to put towels other than on the floor, the hook for the hairdryer was broken so it was in the corner of the bathroom. The whole place needed some updates. It was in a great loaction in Gramercy Park.

Unfortunately, It was a bad experience in Lex hotel. First and foremost, they hosted me in the basement room where the kitchen, storage, and employee rooms are. The room smelled kitchen. The door did not seem secure, and employees entered the room so many times without Permission or knocking at the door. Second I found a Suitcase cart in the bathroom. I complained about everything that had happened to the Receptionist, but he didn’t respond. The Receptionist withdrew the $125 deposit fee, and it’s been a month, and they didn’t refund. Every time I contact the hotel, they apologize for the inconvenience without any further action.

For the good things- the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, the location is solid. If you're looking for a place to just sleep, this is not a bad choice. However with the rates of Manhattan hotels, you can find something nicer at a similar rate. The hotel is nice when you walk in, but past the updated branding this is more of a motel. I arrived at 3:15 for a 3pm check, the room wasn't ready until about 3:45, but again staff was nice . I had a room in the basement, which already was a bit off putting, its weird down there. The size of the room isn't bad, but it's narrow like a hall way. Even though its a basement room it does have a window and gets some light peaking from above. Otherwise the lighting is a bit drab. The room had an odd smell, kind of a damp smell. There was signs of water damage. There was also several flys. Whoever cleaned the room prior did the sink trick to 'seal' the toilet paper, but it was so wet that it made most of the roll soggy all the way through. The bathroom sink doesn't have a counter, it was more like a sink you'd find in a high school bathroom. The fixtures in the room are a bit dated and beat up, the walls also have an odd amount of scuff marks. The internet was spotty. And the kicker- there's a $22 resort fee- for what? I didn't do the free breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall- it was a cheap rate, in a prime location, so for a one night solo trip it works. But for a similar rate you could book Tryp, Four Points, Holiday Inn- or any other number of hotels nearby. Kudos to the staff for being incredibly friendly, but I don't plan on coming back.

Stayed one night here. Bed was firm but surprisingly comfortable. Not many channels on the tv. There isn't much place to store your belongings. The shower was very spacious and gets really hot, with a wonderful rainfall showerhead. The location is perfect, close to the subway and many food options. Many pot shops nearby also. Parking garages are one block away.

The best thing about the hotel are the front desk attendants (very helpful and friendly) and the location. The hotel itself is clean, but not up-kept. There are definitely big visible stains on all the carpets (in hallway and in room). The rooftop was blah... the fence was so high that all you can really see is the sky, not the area around the hotel. Breakfast was included but really basic (plain croissant and muffins and bad coffee), I went out for breakfast after the first day. For the price in the area it makes sense, I'd stay again because of the people working there. Last thing, when getting a taxi to the airport which they have a button for through the taxi company so it arrives right away, I asked the front desk what the flat rate was to JFK was and was told $52. The taxi driver charged me $68 flat rate. So I don't know why the discrepancy but someone needs to update the info or the taxi drivers are scamming people if that is the negotiated rate with the hotel. I wanted to let the hotel know but they don't have an email address available on their website and I'm not the calling to complain type. It sucks though.

Would like to start off by saying that the front desk staff was super accommodating and friendly! The best part of my experience. The first weird vibe I had was when you enter this hotel onto maps and it takes you to an entirely different address 10 blocks away. This is a small thing but as someone who’s worked for a small business owner I know this is a very easy fix and it seems strange to me that they wouldn’t change that. I believe the photos posted by the hotel online are extremely misleading. The entire building felt run down and definitely lacking in cleanliness. The first room I was put in smelled so badly of B.O that I had to ask for a new room. Again, he was very accommodating and immediately gave me a new room - not his fault at all. The new room did not have the smell. I had the queen sized bedroom. It feels weirdly small in there…if I opened my full size suitcase to put on the rack, you would have to go up against the wall to get around it. I know it’s NYC but the price I paid for the room + the photos online definitely made it seem much roomier. The bathroom was clean and roomie on a more positive note. I usually take photos of my hotel rooms but it was so disappointing that I didn’t think to do so. There’s a sign in the room that says join us on the rooftop for a reception from 5-6. But when you ask about it downstairs they say the rooftop is closed right now. I feel like simply removing those signs from the rooms would solve a lot of problems. Not to mention, photos of this rooftop are heavily featured online as well. Breakfast is extremely basic. Kinda what I was expecting though again, I felt the photos online were misleading. Ultimately the prices here were very similar to the chains near grand central or Times Square, but I chose this place because I wanted a more boutique experience and better location. I would NOT recommend this place if that is what you’re looking for. The chains are a better bet. If they lowered their prices or redid the place to look more like the photos, it would definitely be worth it.

All the staff were incredibly friendly, and it was a small but well-equipped hotel. The location was also convenient, not far from Madison Square Park or Union Square. Having a college right next door made me feel safe, and the convenience store nearby was great as well. I would definitely consider revisiting.

The queen bed basic room is indeed very basic. Small and sparse. The breakfast is boxed cereal and stale mediocre pastries. The old carpeting and the bathroom floors were not fully cleaned. There is no fan in the bath and the room is full of steam and humidity for hours after showering. And all this for the amazing price of $420 per night once the ‘resort fee’ and NYC taxes are added in! Add $100 to the quoted rate of NYC hotels now for the added ‘fees’. Sadly, it’s become prohibitively expensive to visit New York City.

Clean, very nice and very comfortable. I loved the bathroom. A little noisy in the morning during our stay but I'm sure it's not the normal. I think some construction work was being done. Parking can be hard and there are 2 parking garages nearby. Regarding parking. My clear suggestion is to read the signs and be sure that is what you are being charged. Some homeless people are around the area but keep walking and enjoy the area. The hotel is near many food and spots to have a good time. Enjoy yourself

I had a power charger - was not cheap. Missing from my bag. I hate to assume but there is no way it was missing. I called the moment I realized in the Uber on the way out. I would advocate don’t leave your bags while your out with front desk. Really sad. They won’t do anything to replace. Just hate going somewhere to then not have something.

We stayed here to move our daughter in to her dorm, location was perfect. The staff is very accommodating and gracious. The only drawbacks were no ice machine, had to ask front desk for that, no in room coffeemaker, no fridge, no microwave. But the hotel staff was extremely helpful and gracious with every little request we made, no matter how trivial like getting coffee for us at all hours. The rooms were spacious and clean, but a bit dated. Beds extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows and linens. Didn’t notice much sound traffic as we were on the first floor away from facing the street. There’s a little deli/grocery right next door which made getting things like drinks and other travel stuff very convenient. Really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay here again at this price point.

Decent hotel in a good location, reasonably priced. Very satisfied with the cleanliness and appearance of my room, especially my bed. However, when I went to put down the bath mat, it was already soaking wet which did not give me much confidence in the cleanliness of my towels. I did not sleep a wink. I'm not even a light sleeper. The AC right next to me was alternating between off and full blast, waking me up each time, and I couldn't figure out how to change the settings. The person in the next room coughed his lungs out the entire night, and it was so loud I may as well have been in the same bed as him. When we got down to breakfast, there was a croissant and 2 muffins, some cereals, and hot coffee. Nice to offer it, but go elsewhere for more substantial food.

Great location, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, and such a lovely hotel! I lived in NYC for a decade, and coming here felt like coming home. The rooms are a modest size but comparable to other hotels I've stayed in the city, and the bathroom was a a great size by city standards, and the toiletries smelled heavenly. Given the hotel was right on Lex I was very pleased with how relatively quiet it was. Would absolutely stay here again, highly recommend!

Very very not-fussy. But better than what I've experienced at the bigger hotels (Sheraton, Marriott), like having coffee ready in the morning and actually cleaning your room when you request it! It's definitely more like a tourist-grade hotel but I loved it for the location convenience!

We were thankful to find a reasonable hotel rate right in Manhattan. The included continental breakfast and access to the furnished (patio) rooftop is awesome. The location is central and makes it convenient for walking during your trip and easy access to metro.

Rooms are clean but pretty rundown versus photos… and very loud! Can hear neighbors as well as if they were in your room. Staff is lovely and responsive.

Romeo was so kind and helpful! It was our first time in New York and our flight got us in hours before check-in. He had a room ready for us in 30 minutes. He also printed out directions for us, answered any questions we had, AND upgraded our room to a junior suite. It was such a lovely experience! The rooftop was also beautiful!

Staff! Super friendly, helpful staff. They have provided A+ services and they have GREAT attitudes. The room is CLEAN, and smell fresh. The hotel is also located in the very convenient location. I will stay here again!

I'd recommend against staying at the Lex Hotel. The Wi-Fi is painfully slow, housekeeping is only available if you call the lobby after reading a paper nobody reads, the pillows are uncomfortably small and soft, and the sheets won't stay in place, leaving you sleeping touching the mattress. Even the bottled water has a strange flavor.

The staff at the hotel is amazing and so very accommodating. We arrived very early for our stay and they had a room ready no problem. The prices are good, rooms were clean and it was centrally located to where we needed to be. We will definitely be back!

This hotel, though dated and a bit shabby-chic is in an ideal location. The staff were super helpful and nice. The advertised wine reception was non existent as was the rooftop deck (closed), breakfast was the usual coffee, juice and croissants. I liked having coffee every morning. I had a room on the first floor it was huge and it was the quietest room I have ever slept in, couldn't hear any of the typical NYC sounds, slept like a baby. Hotel staff deliver ice and whatever else you might need. 5 plus stars for them!! Would re book......
